This holiday season the Douglas Common will shine thanks in a large part to UniBank, as a Major Sponsor of the Douglas Common Preservation Society. Karen Yacino, Vice President and Manager of the Douglas Branch, was happy to present their $5,000 check to the Douglas Common Preservation Society Committee Members, Lynn Paresky, Kathy Sugrue-Richards, Betty Ann McCallum, Bonnie Lepage and Lin Millette at the Common. UniBank’s donation is targeted for expanded lighting at the Common for the holiday season. Thanks to their sponsorship, the Douglas Common Preservation Society was able to hire a local company, Bright Factor, to bring a magical holiday look to the Common this year. Bringing more shine into the Common, seven trees will be adorned with varying size white spritzers, while the trunks of those threes will be wrapped with strings of white lights. To make even more of a shine, Bright Factor added their own sponsorship donation to increase the lights on the trees and to include lights on the roof of the gazebo topped off by a spritzer. In addition to the lights in the trees, the gazebo will be decorated with winter garlands and ornaments suspended

VOLuNTeeRS: (Left to Right) Lynn Paresky, Kathy Sugrue-Richards, Betty Ann McCallum, Karen Yacino, Bonnie Lepage and Lin Millette. on ribbons, and there will be a lit tree inside the gazebo with wrapped presents beneath the tree. The Soldiers Monument will be illuminated and the small trees around it will all be decorated with red and silver ornaments. The decorated pairs of white reindeer will reappear this year under two of the big trees. Come visit this magical setting with your family and friends – it makes a perfect backdrop for your holiday photos. Beautifying, maintaining and decorating the Common is the year round work of volunteers who make up the Douglas Common Preservation

Society, and this year they are reaching their goal of getting the Common fully decorated for the holiday season. The late Brenda Ballou, one of the original members of the Douglas Common Preservation Society, inspired the seasonal decoration of the Common, and her dream came true this year thanks to major sponsorships by UniBank and Bright Factor and the support of many members of the community, both businesses and individuals. All sponsors will be recognized on a Banner Sign placed at the Common during the month of December.

Working Together for Seniors The Uxbridge Senior Center wishes to thank all the volunteers, contributors and donors who helped make the 2023 Thanksgiving Meal Distribution Project a success. The Senior Center packaged and delivered over 260 turkey dinners to seniors throughout the Town of Uxbridge on Monday, November 20th. This year, the senior center collaborated with the Mendon Street Kitchen in Uxbridge to cook the luncheon. The Town is truly blessed to have so many people who care for each other. It is with many hands that we accomplish so much. What a wonderful way for the community to come together for a great cause. We especially want to thank our major contributors/donors that helped make this project financially feasible- Fallon Health, Hannaford’s, Savers Bank, Table Talk Pies, the Mendon Street Kitchen, the Uxbridge Elderly Connection and UniBank. The Senior Center also wants to acknowledge all our volunteers, too many to name. Thank you to Sophia Smith, a Sophomore from Northbridge High School, who contributed her time and talents to make special greeting cards for some of our seniors. We especially want to thank Josh from Nature’s Medicine in Uxbridge, who donated a large majority of the cranberry sauce and gravy to the Center. Thank you all for allowing the Senior Center to be a part of this endeavor. Our seniors thank you! The Uxbridge Senior Center is located at 36 South Main Street. Hochmuth admitted to Senate Youth Council

www.thenewuxbridgetimes.com

THIS ISSUE ONLINE AT:

Superintendent Michael Baldassarre and Principal Michael Rubin are pleased to share that an Uxbridge High School sophomore has been admitted as a member of the Worcester and Hampden District Fattman Senate Youth Council. Sophomore student Tavin Hochmuth will be welcomed as a member of the Worcester and Hampden Senate Youth Council (FSYC) during a virtual kickoff meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 5:30 p.m. Under the direction of Massachusetts State Senator Ryan C. Fattman of Worcester and Hampden County, Hochmuth and student delegates from 19 district towns will meet monthly throughout the Worcester Hampden District, or virtually, to engage in respectful discussion and debate about current events. Student delegates will attend monthly club meetings, State House visits, bipartisan campaign and speaker series events, and more, where they will have the opportunity to learn more about leadership, volunteerism, activism and politics, civic knowledge and current events. Members of the FSYC will work with each other, with guest speakers, and with Senator Fattman and his staff to expand their horizons, have meaningful experiences, and create opportunities to further contribute to their community. To be a member in good standing, students are expected to attend the monthly meetings, share their thoughts and opinions on discussion topics, participate in assigned reading and group

projects, and volunteer at least three hours of their time toward community service or political activism. "Senator Fattman and his office have been loyal supporters and partners to our community," said Principal Rubin. "I'm excited that Tavin will be able to work with him and his staff on areas of policy that matter at the local level." Students ranging from ninth to 12th grade are selected by Senator Fattman's staff based on merits including their involvement in student government, academics and volunteer work. In addition to his academic responsibilities, Hochmuth currently serves as crew and stage manager for the Uxbridge High School Drama Club, and as a member of the math club and color guard. During his free time, Hochmuth helps his friends and peers with schoolwork and projects. "I am very excited to be accepted into this program as I am a big fan of history and how the government works," said Hochmuth. "I am looking forward to working with others and making a difference in this world."

The need to serve and care for others is a powerful driving force, and if a person can transform that need into a meaningful career path, it's all the more rewarding. For those interested in pursuing a career in nursing, the adult Practical Nursing program at Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School (BVT) is helping its graduates launch nursing careers now when the need for professionally trained skilled nurses is in high demand. PracticalNursing.org, a leading resource for LPN/LVN students, recently announced BVT's evening nursing program as the #5 Ranked Practical Nursing Program in its annual assessment, recognizing exceptional programs in Massachusetts. The ranking assists aspiring nurses with a resource for selecting a prospective nursing school. The evaluation considers various factors, including past and present first-time National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) pass rates, weighted by year, and a methodology that assesses how effectively a program supports its students on their journey toward licen-

Understanding other cultures and traditions helps open our minds to diverse viewpoints and gain a broader perspective. Traditional foods, dance, music, and art can be a source of pride and an expression of cultural identity. Sharing those traditions is a fun way to celebrate one's heritage with others. It is one of the many ways Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School (BVT) students and staff contributed to an authentic celebration at its third annual Multicultural Festival. The interdisciplinary event held recently at BVT included a Multicultural Center featuring student-run booths representing many countries and, in the process, diverse traditions that make each of the students unique. Members of the Multicultural Club prepared posters and shared items and goods from countries and cultures around the world. The students and staff browsed the booths and sampled other cultures' traditions, languages, and arts, all without using their passports. If you were open to trying foods from

other countries, you might have stopped by one of these booths: Costa Rica by Jacob Cahill for a serving of Gallo Pinto (Costa Rican Beans and Rice); Multicultural Club for a sample of Arroz Con Gandules (Puerto Rican Rice with Pigeon Peas), or Tembleque (a coconut dessert pudding from Puerto Rico); Finland by Haley Bilodeau, Lusikkaleivat which is a Finnish teaspoon cookie. "I enjoyed speaking with my peers and instructors about Puerto Rico during the Multicultural Festival,” said Autumn Gromelski of Northbridge, a sophomore in Culinary Arts. “We discussed food, music, and art,” said Yaritza Ayala of Uxbridge, a sophomore in Culinary Arts. In addition to the student-run booths, there were traditional "Día de Los Muertos" activities, a visiting artist, dance lessons, and a cultural workshop. The instructors from Dance Fitness Collaboration were teaching Salsa or Zumba to those who had signed up. Sabato Visconti, a new media artist and photographer, spoke about how his Brazilian heritage influenced his art and assisted students in glitch photography. There was also a cultural workshop with instructors from Monano who presented the history of Peruvian drumming and encouraged active participation in playing the drums. The interdisciplinary event was a successful collaborative effort supported in part by grants from the Douglas, Hopedale, Mendon, Northbridge, Upton, and Uxbridge Cultural Councils, local agencies supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Sunshine Club receives new bus There was a full house at the Douglas Adult Social Center as they welcomed their new bus. There has been a lot of excitement associated with the new bus, they haven’t had their own transportation in more than 15 years. The center is grateful to Douglas Board of Selectman, the Town Administrator Mathew Wojcik, the Capital Committee, and to all the resident’s in town, without their support this would never have been possible. Also to Senator Fattman for the earmark grant of $30,000 to go towards the purchase of the bus and to the Sunshine Club who provided the funding for the bus

lettering and artwork. Also, thanks to the “name the bus competition”, it was voted as the “Road Runner”. Congratulations to Tess Bolte for her winning submission. The bus will be transporting patrons to and from the center daily and will be traveling to Milford and the surrounding areas for medical appointments Monday-Thursday, also shopping on Fridays. Please call the center directly @ 508476-2283 to schedule your ride. Transportation to the center requires a 24 hour notice, transportation out of town requires 48 business hours.

State Representative Michael J. Soter (R-Bellingham) received a legislator award from the Massachusetts SpeechLanguage Hearing Association at the 2023 American Speech Language Hearing Association Annual Convention held in Dorchester. Representative Soter received this award for his work to help advance and advocate for the MSHA policy initiatives, including his work to help pass H.5094 – An Act Providing for Provisional Licensure for SpeechLanguage Pathologists. Rep. Soter was honored along side Senator Nick Collins and Representative Paul McMurtry. With this law, hundreds of clinical fellows are able to stay and work right here in Massachusetts, helping to improve the staffing shortage affecting the industry. The implementation of this law now waits approval from the Board of Registration of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiology. Representative Soter hopes that these regulations changes go into effect soon so that clinical fellows can start to help out our communities! Updates regarding the implementation of this regulation change will be posted on the Board’s website as they become available.

Fattman announces grants for local schools

Knights Of Columbus donate coats Russ Rosborough, The Grand Knight of the local council (on left) and Jack McCarthy, stopped by the office to drop off three dozen coats for the St. Vincent de Paul Clothing Drive. The Knights continue to assist those in need and work to better their community, families, and the church. Thank you for all your hard work!

State Senator Ryan Fattman (R-Sutton) announced that the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education awarded $38,500 in grant funding to schools in his district. The funds were part of the MyCAP grant program. This is a targeted, state-funded grant that provides supplementary support to school districts currently. Engaged in or interested in beginning implementation of a My Career and Academic Plan (MyCAP) necessary to attend professional development opportunities and team meetings outside of school hours. According to DESE, MyCAP is a student-driven process designed by a school leadership team to ensure every student identifies individual skills, interests, talents, and passions, uses those to identify careers of interest, to then be able to align with course taking and choice of extracurricular activities and ultimately graduate high school with an

authentic plan for success after high school. Of the $968,000 given to Massachusetts schools, $38,500 went to schools in Senator Fattman’s district. Blackstone-Millville Regional School District, Douglas Public Schools, Hopedale Public Schools, Mendon-Upton Regional School District, Sutton Public Schools, Uxbridge Public Schools, and Webster Public Schools all received

grants amounting to $5,500 each. “Preparing students for life after high school is a key to success for our children,” said Senator Fattman. “I look forward to these schools implementing this grant, as it will help students identify career paths and vocations that will set them up for lifelong success.”

Kristin Koliss has been dreaming of Hollywood since she was a kid. After graduating from Bryant College in 1993, she took some acting classes in Boston, was in a production there as well as The Barre Players. Kristin went out West in June of 1995. Living in San Francisco, she started writing scripts after watching the movie, “Big Night.” That film was a turning point and inspired her to start writing. She took more acting classes and a writing class there. After living in San Francisco for a few years, Kristin headed South to LA. That lead to some background work in Hollywood. But she always loved writing. Working production on a reality show introduced her to the world behind the camera and she took a strong liking to that as well. She remembers being back East for a visit one year and drove by the bar, “Madigan’s Again.” She thought that would be a great name for a movie and why would a stranger to the area go back there again and again. That was the start to the short film, Madigan’s Again. It’s a story of empathy, connection and loving ourselves no matter what. It’s an unlikely meeting between two people. While having the flu in December 2022, Kristin was scrolling her computer, pulled up the script and decided she would make the film in 2023. After, her Mom passed in February, she focused on the film. Her Mom knew she wanted to make films and Kristin knew her Mom’s spirit was right beside her. After being introduced to Worcester native, Tom Dwyer, the ball was rolling. Tom just wrote, starred and produced a TV pilot, HollyWoo. He and Kristin hit it off. Tom loved the script and reached out to his friend, film maker, Jospeh Marcello to jump on the project. From Milford, Joe is a graduate of Emerson College and won a Best Cinematography and Editing Award for his work on the short film, Ocean Child. He and Dwyer co-directed HollyWoo. The three produced Madigan’s Again; with Kristin and Tom codirecting and Joseph being the director of photography and editing. Kristin was fortunate enough to have friends, Maria Daly and Keith Havalotti that owned the bar, The St. Charles Hotel in Millbury. It was a great spot to shoot since she grew up in town and the bar itself was a perfect location. Maria and Keith supported the project from the start as well. Joe and Tommy brought an amazing crew together from previous projects. They shot August 8th and 9th at the bar as well as Kristin’s home. Kristin is thrilled to be able to bring the premiere to The Hanover Theatre where her father and grandfather took her to the movies when she was a young girl. Tickets are now on sale at thehanovertheatre.org/events/madigans-again. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the movie starting at 7:15 and a Q&A to follow with Kristin, Tom & Joseph.

The production is under the Artistic Direction of Cynthia Marnik and Susanna Vennerbeck. This production has been a traditional favorite for many who return yearly because every year something new is introduced such as a new costume, new set feature or new character to add to the element of surprise. OBITUARIES____ JoAnn Luttringer Glagowski, 97 JoAnn Luttringer Glagowski, 97, of West Haven, CT, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2023, after a brief period of declining health. She was predeceased by her husband Horst E. Glagowski in 2014. JoAnn was born in Dayton, Ohio, on December 24, 1925, to Eugene and Mildred Luttringer, the eldest of their four daughters. She graduated from Fairview High School and went on to work at National Cash Register in

Dayton. It was there she met Horst. When he asked JoAnn for a date, she cheekily responded by stamping his hand with a date stamp! During their marriage, the couple lived in several states including Ohio, Georgia, New Jersey, South Carolina, Connecticut, New Hampshire and lastly Whitinsville, MA, at Cotton Mill Apartments. They were married for 68 devoted years. JoAnn enjoyed being a homemaker to her three rambunctious boys. She was a prolific seamstress, a gardener and a talented baker. She was especially known for her famous sour cream twists which many family members tried to duplicate, but no one ever came close to hers! JoAnn also loved hosting bridge club, playing cards, reading, iPad games and staying connected on social media with family and friends. Yes, up to the age of 97! JoAnn spent the last eight years near

family at Baybrook Arms, West Haven, enjoying friends, coffee hours, cards, and conversations with the wonderful people there. She had a cozy apartment where she relaxed and entertained family. She delighted in each family gathering she hosted or attended and especially loved watching the antics of the youngest ones. JoAnn was a beautiful lady inside and out, sweet, soft-spoken, and always smiling. She was rarely ruffled by anything and made you feel extremely special when you were with her. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but most especially by those who called her our matriarch, mom, sister, aunt, and her best title, Grandma Jo. JoAnn was predeceased by her husband Horst and her sister Carole Ann Evans. She is survived by her sisters, Donna Garmon and Glenna Duffey, her sons Terry (Linda) Glagowski of Ashford, CT, Jack (Alicia) Glagowski

Both homeowners and renters can apply online or through local administering agencies for LIHEAP assistance. Households must meet specific eligibility requirements to qualify for aid, which will be paid directly to their heating vendor. Eligibility is based on several factors, including household size and combined gross annual income of residents 18 and older. Qualifying households – including those with the cost of heat included in the rent – can receive assistance for all sources of heat, including oil, electricity, natural gas, propane, kerosene, wood and coal. “The Massachusetts home energy assistance program is free, because no resident should have to worry about heating their home during the wintertime,” said Ed Augustus Jr., Secretary of Housing and Livable Communities. “High fuel costs can have a devastating effect on household budgets and can even endanger Massachusetts’ most vulnerable residents. We encourage anyone who needs heating assistance to explore their eligibility by applying online or visiting the nearest administering agency. And to please share the information with loved ones or neighbors who could benefit from this free resource.” For more information, or to find your local LIHEAP agency, visit www.toapply.org/MassLIHEAP. ABOUT EOHLC The Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) was established in 2023 to create more homes and lower housing costs in every region. EOHLC also distributes funding to municipalities, oversees the state-aided public housing portfolio, and operates the state’s EA family shelter.

State Representative Michael Soter (R-Bellingham) is backing long-term care legislation that contains enhanced protections for patients as well as expanded training provisions for the industry’s workforce. House Bill 4178, An Act to improve quality and oversight of long-term care, was engrossed by the House of Representatives on November 15th by a unanimous vote of 158-0. The bill reflects several of the reforms recommended in the 2020 report filed by the Nursing Facility Task Force, which was charged with “evaluating ways to ensure the financial stability of skilled nursing facilities; considering the role of skilled nursing facilities within the continuum of elder care services; and addressing current workforce challenges.” Representative Soter said the bill will help to address persistent staffing shortages at nursing homes and other longterm care facilities and ensure proper safeguards are in place to prevent and contain infectious disease outbreaks among patients. In light of the COVID-19 global pandemic, which disproportionately impacted older residents in nursing homes, House Bill 4178 requires all long-term care facilities in Massachusetts to develop a customized outbreak response plan. This plan must include clear policies for testing proto-

cols; isolating infected and at-risk patients; notifying residents, their families, visitors and staff about any contagious disease outbreaks; implementing outbreak response measures; and notifying public health officials of any outbreaks that occur. Representative Soter said House Bill 4178 also strengthens the Attorney General’s ability to crack down on long-term care facilities that are found liable for abusing or neglecting their patients by increasing financial penalties five-fold and expanding the statute of limitations governing when the Attorney General can bring civil charges from two years to four years. Under the bill, fines will be increased from $5,000 to $25,000 in cases where no bodily injury results; from $10,000 to $50,000 when bodily injury results; from $20,000 to $100,000 in cases involving sexual assault or serious bodily injury; and from $50,000 to $250,000 if the patient dies. In addition, House Bill 4178 enhances the Department of Public Health’s ability to monitor long-term care facilities and to take decisive action when violations occur. This includes providing DPH with the power to limit, restrict, suspend or revoke a license for cause and to appoint temporary managers to help bring facilities into compliance with acceptable standards. term care facilities will also be subject to at least one resident-centered inspection per year to gather information about the quality of services provided at the facility and to determine its compliance with state and federal requirements. Representative Soter noted that House Bill 4178 also contains provisions for supporting employees working in long-term care facilities. The bill directs the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) to establish and administer workforce training grant programs for: • supervisory and leadership training; • skills advancement for certified nursing assistants (CNAs) and other entrylevel workers; and • career pathways to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN) These grants can be used to cover tuition costs, childcare and/or transportation stipends, licensing costs, and/or general stipends for program participants. According to Representative Soter, House Bill 4178 also directs EOHHS to create a no-interest or forgivable loan program for skilled nursing facilities. This program will provide financial assistance to facilities looking to undertake capital improvements or offset certain capital costs. One additional provision contained in

the bill is language creating a task force to study and issue recommendations for addressing acute care hospital throughout challenges and the impact of persistent delays in discharging patients from acute to post-acute care settings. The task force will examine hospital discharge planning, administrative barriers to discharge, post-acute care capacity constraints, and other related issues. House Bill 4178 also directs MassHealth to study the cost and feasibility of adjusting eligibility requirements to ensure that patients spend less time in acute care awaiting eligibility determination. The bill also directs the Division of Insurance to develop and implement uniform prior authorization forms for admissions from acute care hospitals to post-acute care facilities. House Bill 4178, as amended, now moves to the Senate for its consideration.

Last month 33 students were inducted into the National Honor Society during a ceremony at Uxbridge High School. The program is offered to students in grades 11 through 12. To qualify for the National Honor Society students must maintain a career average of 93 or higher, volunteer at least 20 hours per academic year, and have a discipline-free school record. "The accomplishments of these students are also reflective of the hard work of their teachers, our staff, and their families," said Superintendent Baldassarre. "On behalf of our school committee, we thank everyone for their dedication to excellence in our community." of Professional Development Superintendent Michael Baldassarre and Director of Technology and Digital Learning Jessica Brittingham are pleased to share that Uxbridge Public Schools was recently awarded grant funding to support professional development for teachers. In early November Uxbridge was selected by MassCUE to participate in the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's Building Capacity for High-Quality Instruction through EdTech Grant Program. The grant, awarded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) provides funds for districts to adopt or expand capacity-building programming that builds the collective expertise of educators to utilize technology to deliver high-quality instruction. Uxbridge district staff will receive $8,200 for stipends and 360 hours of professional development training to establish professional learning programs for educators to develop skills in leveraging educational technology to improve student learning experiences.

"On behalf of the entire district, I would like to thank the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for this generous grant," said Superintendent Baldassarre. "This program will allow our educators to further develop their skills to support our students both inside and outside of the classroom." Through this program, Uxbridge Public Schools plan to implement two pathways — the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) pathway and Building Capacity through Digital Equity (BCDE) pathway — by December. DESE also funds programming that allows districts to meet their teaching and learning goals through technology. "Since Jessica Brittingham has taken the lead position in our technology department, a lot has happened - and Uxbridge is moving more quickly than anticipated in our tech-dominated educational environment," said Superintendent Baldassarre. "We are so proud of Jessica and her department for this and so much else!"

Students learning real world skills with DECA When students came back to school in the fall many were engaging in different activities. Some were involved in sports, others in music, and for some at Uxbridge High School, they were preparing for business. DECA is an internationally recognized organization that helps prepare students for a future in business, marketing, entrepreneurship & beyond. Students compete in a variety of business topics and events that give them real world skills that will benefit them both in and out of school. While DECA has been around since 1946 it only came to Uxbridge in the 2021-2022 school year. Since then it has grown to a club of just 3 students to over 15 in a short time. Senior Syrianna Douangsavnh joined DECA her junior year. “As the Uxbridge DECA advisor, Mr.Guerra suggested I join DECA. I was not sure what to make of DECA at first, but I gave it a shot. Since then, I have attended the Fall State Leadership Conference at Bentley University twice and the Districts Competition in Worcester, MA at the DCU Center. DECA is more than just a business club. The skills learned are not just exclusive to business. Learning how to network and meeting successful business owners are opportunities anyone could benefit from. Students pick from over 55 different events ranging from testing and case studies, to business plans and even marketing campaigns. They practice and work on their events in the fall and then compete against other schools. The first competition is held in January, followed by a State Competition in March, and if successful, students will compete in the International Career Development Conference held in Anaheim California. Over 25,000 students will be competing and attending workshops. DECA helps students work on study skills, research, report writing and presentation skills. In addition, the students have opportunities to network with other students and business partners which can help build their resumes and provide connections to their future. Last year UHS DECA had three students compete at the State Competition and also had two more compete at ICDC in School Based Enterprise. This year there are over a dozen students who will be competing in January. Some students will be reviewing case studies and providing their answers in front of a judge. Others will be putting together business plans and presenting them. All have their sights set on California. Brynn Doherty, Syrianna’s partner in School Based Enterprise says. “The opportunities it’s provided me with are endless, and my hope is that others find the same satisfaction and enjoyment in the club.”.

Blissful Company Open a swinging success for youth programs Representatives from three local schools gathered at Blissful Meadows on Thursday to receive their share of the proceeds from the 31st Annual Company Open Charity Golf Tournament. Recently, 140 golfers teed off for 18 holes of scramble golf, all for a good cause. The 31st Annual Company Open Charity Golf Tournament drew participants not just from the fairways but from numerous local businesses and schools, creating a spirited event that goes beyond the game. Initially, the Company Open was a competitive showdown between local businesses. But after a few years, the Bliss family decided to switch gears and create an annual fundraising event, channeling its proceeds towards youth sports and educational programs in the local school systems. The allocation of funds within the school systems changes yearly depending on the needs of the students and staff. This year, the golfers' efforts translated into a commendable $17,533. These funds aren't just numbers; they're making tangible impacts. From individual student scholarships to breathing life into youth programs, the reach extends across Uxbridge, Douglas, and the Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School. Gordon and Jean Bliss, who have called the Blackstone Valley home for over 60 years, have seen generations of their family tread the local school corridors. With seven children, a trove of grandchildren, and great-grandchildren now part of the school scene, their commitment runs deep. Blissful Meadows proudly serves as the home course for both the Uxbridge and Douglas High Schools' golf teams, giving local youngsters an affordable spot for practice and matches. The tournament day wasn't just about golf swings; it was a celebration of community spirit. Participants indulged in various competitions, from the exciting "Ball Drop" where numbered golf balls cascade from the skies to the cup below, (with the winning ball bringing a $1000 cash prize), to a putting contest, a cornhole contest, and spirited battles for the longest drive and closest to pin. Imperial Cars of Mendon added some horsepower to the event, dangling the keys to a brand-new Ford Mustang in the hole-in-one competition. This year, Metrowest Auto Sales clinched victory with an impressive score of 58. The recent gathering at Blissful Meadows wasn't just about golf; it was a moment of pride for representatives from Uxbridge High School, Douglas High School, and the Blackstone Valley Vocational Technical H.S.. They came together to receive their share of the proceeds, striking a balance between friendly banter and camaraderie. Dr. Fitzpatrick, Superintendent of BVT, expressed gratitude for the Bliss family's ongoing support, highlighting that this year's generous donation will

ments, thanking Blissful Meadows for their commitment to community support through events like these. The Bliss family extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff, players, vendors, corporate and individual sponsors, and volunteers whose unwavering

support continues to make the Company Open Charity Golf Outing a community highlight year after year. According to Gordon Bliss, owner of Blissful Meadows, it’s not just a golf tournament; it's a swing towards a stronger, more connected community.
