MSBA Board approves High School Project State will contribute up to $22,362,327 State Treasurer Tim Cahill, Chairman of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (“MSBA”), and Katherine Craven, MSBA Executive Director, today announced that the MSBA Board voted to approve the project at Uxbridge High School. The next step in the process is for the Town of Uxbridge and the MSBA to enter into a Project Funding Agreement which will detail the project’s scope and budget and set forth the terms and conditions to which the Town of Uxbridge will receive its grant from the MSBA. The MSBA will be funding 57.53% of the project. “It has been a long road, but well worth all the hard work,” said Treasurer Cahill. “The MSBA and the Town of Uxbridge found the most educationally appropriate and fiscally sound solution to the problems at Uxbridge High School, and we now have a project that both the MSBA Board and the residents of Uxbridge support.” “We still have to work out some details, but the MSBA is prepared to reimburse up to $22.3 million for the construction of the new High School,” stated Katherine Craven, MSBA Executive Director. “After working over the past several months with our local legislative delegation to promote a cooperative attitude and effort between the Massachusetts School Building Authority and the Uxbridge School Building Committee, I am pleased to see that the new Uxbridge High School project is moving forward,” said Sen. Richard Moore. “The people of Uxbridge have been heard, and I applaud local officials in their efforts in striking a comprehensive and meaningful compromise.” “The Town continues to move forward in working collaboratively with the MSBA in a positive manner to take this school building project to the next

Representative Jennifer Callahan (DSutton) and Senator Richard Moore (DUxbridge) are pleased to announce House Bill 3182: “An Act Designating a Certain Road in the Town of Uxbridge as the Benny Emerick’s Road to Boston” was officially signed by Governor Deval Patrick into law on August 4th and is now Chapter 228 of the Acts of 2010 Massachusetts General Laws. The bill was filed in memory of Uxbridge’s beloved Sergeant Benjamin “Benny” Emerick. “So many people wanted to honor the legacy and life of Benny Emerick in a special and lasting way. Filing this legislation on behalf of the Emerick family and the community was a proud day for me and its passage an even prouder one. This assures his contributions to the community on a cultural, historical and public service level will endure across future generations,” said Representative Callahan. Sergeant Benjamin Emerick was a lifelong resident of Uxbridge, where he served the public for many years on both the Police and Fire Departments. In addition to his long career as a public safety official, Sergeant Emerick was also extremely active in many local historical organizations and established several renowned fife and drum corps. Emerick also founded the Uxbridge Historical Society, was Director of the Uxbridge Bi-Centennial Commission and worked to erect a monument to honor Uxbridge Patriots of the American Revolution.
