8th Annual Uniquely Uxbridge Day On Sunday, September 5th, Uxbridge will be celebrating their Eigth Annual Uniquely Uxbridge Day on the Uxbridge Town Common and Pout Pond. This day is to enjoy all the things that make Uxbridge a great community to live in. Part of what makes Uxbridge a fabulous community to live in is how they support others in need. The day starts at 9:00 a.m. on the town common. Admission is free, so come down, do some shopping, visit with the local crafters and artisans. The crafter and vendor fair features some of the top local artisans in the area. If you want to get a start on your holiday shopping, now is the time! Handblown glass, crochet items, handmade jewelry, primitives, wood décor, skin and personal care items are just a few of the vendors that you will find. Come out and connect local business owners that focus on multi-media, performing arts, fitness, massage and of course, food. Uniquely Uxbridge Day is partnering with Uxbridge First Holiday Night and the Pout Pond Recreation Committee to bring some added excitement to this year’s event. Be sure to stop by Mendon Street Kitchen and grab lunch, a quick snack or a cold drink. Additionally, several businesses in the downtown area will be open and hosting sidewalk sales. Stop by, get acquainted with all that the local downtown business district has to offer. After 3:00 p.m. head down to Pout Pond for a gathering and a time to cool off. The Pout Pond Recreation Committee has some great events planned for the entire family in the afternoon. They are pleased to announce the return of the town favorite, the cardboard boat race. Start saving your cardboard now, get your family together to start to construct your bouyant vessel. Please visit the event page at facebook. com/UxbridgeDay for updated details. Any questions on the Uniquely Uxbridge Day please contact uxbridgeday@gmail.com. They hope to see you there! See page 8 for addtional information about this great event.

Uxbridge Skatepark a safe gathering place for all By Christine Beauchaine In April of 2019, the Uxbridge Skatepark at 16 Granite Street, consisted of just one worn down ramp. That’s when Robbie Harper and Bug Ranslow stepped in to make it better. The duo started a Go-Fund-Me page (Rebuilding Uxbridge Skatepark) to raise money for improvements to the park. The campaign eventually raised almost $24,000 to upgrade the park. Harper and Ranslow feel like the park is “the best thing in Uxbridge.” They added that the park is meeting the needs of both teenagers and adults. While deserted on a recent Sunday in the rain, the park is usually really busy and has become a recreational “destination” for Uxbridge skaters and bikers. Park organizers added that boredom without an outlet can sometimes be a recipe for disaster. The park is meeting a real need in the community. The skatepark recently hosted the All I Need Skate Jam, sponsored by All I Need Skateboarding located in Taunton, MA. Harper and Ranslow say that the Skate Jam was a “huge success.” It included beginner, advanced and age 35+ divisions. “Everyone who attended had an incredible time,” Harper and Ranslow said. As a bonus, the event raised $3200 for the park. The event also garnered some rave reviews on PRESORTED STANDARD US POSTAGE PAID BOSTON, MA PERMIT NO 55800

Uxbridge’s local Facebook page (We are Uniquely Uxbridge). The comments on the All I Need Skate Jam were overwhelmingly positive. People who weren’t even involved in the event commented on how well-organized and clean it was. Everyone is welcome at the park and the sense of community among the skaters was noticeable, even to spectators. The park will be hosting another event in the

fall of 2021 to help raise money for their next big project, slated to begin in the spring of 2022. Improvements are ongoing. Harper and Ranslow said that they “want to continue to grow the park” and will always do everything they can to make sure the park is “the best it can be. The park is currently reaching out to local businesses who may wish to purchase hanging signs at the park. Businesses can purchase a 4x6 foot hanging sign for $600. “The skatepark is so important to the community,” Harper and Ranslow say, “Because it gives so many young people a place to go and be accepted, have fun and be safe. We have seen so many kids that haven’t really fit in anywhere else, flourish at the park and make new friends while enjoying something they all love.” The park’s organizers add that the skatepark “is really important to the town of Uxbridge because it gives kids a place to go,” noting that not everyone is comfortable with or interested in participating in team sports. The park does not receive any money from the town. They are “100% community and skater funded donations.” The park’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/uxbridgeskate) says that the park was ”built by skateboarders, for skateboarders, bikes, roller blades, skates and scooters.”
