Residents form committee to Support Budget Override Northbridge residents, comprised mostly of parents of the Northbridge Public Schools recently filed a Ballot Question Committee with the Town Clerk’s Office, creating Northbridge SOS (Support Our Schools). The committee was formed in reaction to Superintendent Nancy Spitulnik’s announced plans to propose a budget override to prevent five years of detrimental cuts to the district. In support of Spitulnik, Northbridge SOS has immediately gone to work raising funds to create a campaign of their own, to educate young families, elderly, college students and all residents of the town unaware of the school’s dire need for funding. Committee members have had a presence at Selectman, Finance and School Committee meetings to educate themselves, and find the best ways to pass this knowledge to town residents. Northbridge SOS is currently focused

on voter registration, encouraging voter turnout at the May 6th Town Meeting and May 20th Election. Residents can contact the committee to join them in ‘Painting the Town Maroon and White,’ the committee’s current fundraising effort to spread the message. For $15 the committee will paint the Northbridge ‘N’ on residents’ driveways, hoping to create town unity, pride and an opportunity to raise awareness. For a driveway stamp contact Northbridge SOS at northbridgesos@ gmail.com. Northbridge SOS is not affiliated with the Northbridge Public Schools, it is a Ballot Question Committee, registered with the Town of Northbridge. It is funded through donations both financial and in-kind and is managed by volunteers. The purpose of Northbridge SOS is to educate the town of Northbridge and support the public school system, with the ultimate goal of passing the Override.

By Constance Dwyer What we sometimes hear from our children is, “Dad, I didn’t buy you anything, because I didn’t know what to get you.” Well, allow me to present to you, our readers, the insight of a young daughter, Danielle Salmonsen of Uxbridge, who decided to give her Dad, Lance Salmonsen, the best “gift” ever: heading up a half marathon for his fight against bladder cancer. The 13.1 mile fundraiser will take place on Sunday, April 6th, at 10 a.m. at the Whitin Community Center. The race covers Whitinsville, Uxbridge, Douglas and Sutton.

“My Dad can offer hope to others. If there’s one thing he has taught me, it’s to support what you believe in and I believe in him. I want to run this half marathon with my sister and friends to support him. I have never been more proud to have him as my Dad.”

“Be The Match” Marrow Drive for Tyler Seddon This month the Town of Uxbridge Police Department will be showing their support for Leukemia Patient Tyler Seddon by Hosting a “Be The Match” Marrow Drive. Tyler Seddon is an energetic 7 year old who fought leukemia from 20102012 when he achieved remission. From July 2012 until November 2013 Tyler was cancer free. After a week of headaches, his mother took him to hospital. Blood work was done and the results were "concerning". Tyler had relapsed; his leukemia was back. Recently, Tyler was admitted for 43 days. His next step is a bone marrow transplant and currently he does not have a matching donor on the registry. Everyone deserves a second chance at life, but sadly only 5 out of every 10

searching patients receive the transplant they so desperately need. Please help, register to be the match! Think of a gift that could change someone's life forever, the gift of a second chance. Please consider signing up to be a donor, you never know you just might save a life. Please take the first step and join the registry. A marrow donor registration drive will be held on Saturday, April 12th from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Uxbridge Police Headquarters to add new potential donors to the Be The Match Registry. For more information please contact Officer Peter M. Bates Jr. PBates@ uxbridge-ma.gov or Jennifer St. Peter, Account Executive, at 401-248-5762 or email marrow@ribc.org

It was last July that Lance’s wife, Betsy, and his three daughters, Danielle, Lauren, and Nicole (Gantt) learned of the bladder cancer. Lance and Betsy are well known in Uxbridge as owners of the Quaker Deli in Uxbridge that has served thousands of customers during its 24 year history. Danielle noted that her Father still works at the store but has had to cut back somewhat because of “feeling tired,” but when you run your own business there’s not much of a choice to take time off, she noted. Lance had a tumor removed last sumcontinued on page 15
