Inside & Out

State Representative Michael Soter and Uxbridge Fire Chief Tom Dion announced that the Uxbridge Fire Department Received $19,000 in grant funding that the Baker-Polito Administration released under the FY22 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program. This program enables fire departments to purchase a variety of equipment that will make firefighters’ jobs safer. This is the second year that funding has been awarded for this purpose as part of a $25 million bond bill filed by the Baker-Polito Administration to support firefighter safety and health in the coming years. “This grant award will be a tremendous benefit to the town of Uxbridge,” State Representative Michael J. Soter commented. “The funding will allow Chief Dion and his crews to expand their arsenal of equipment while also phasing out older gear. The Uxbridge Fire Department has a long-standing mission of professionally and compassionately serving the residents of Uxbridge. The equipment purchased with the awarded funds will allow crews to continue to faithfully serve the town and the surrounding areas.” “Uxbridge is once again excited to receive the FF Safety Grant from DFS,” Tom Dion, Uxbridge Fire Chief

commented. “This grant will help us overcome budget challenges and purchase needed equipment to ensure the safety of our members and those we serve. With this grant, we will be purchasing Ice/Water Rescue Suits to replace some quite old suits that are beyond their useful life. Additionally, we are purchasing an Air Bag Lifting Kit for Rescue operations, and Extrication PPE for our EMS personnel while treating patients in and around hazardous environments (predominantly motor vehicle crashes but not limited to it). My thanks to Rep Soter for his support and the team at the Department of Fire Services for making this possible.” Fire departments in Massachusetts were able to apply to this program for 118 different types of eligible equipment, including personal protective clothing, gear washers and dryers, thermal imaging cameras, assorted hand tools and extrication equipment, communications resources, hazardous gas meters, fitness equipment, and more. In many cases, the purchase of this equipment will help departments attain compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration or National Fire Protection Association safety standards.
