On a remote island surrounded by towering walls and the illusion of safety, a lone outsider washes ashore broken, unfamiliar, and uninvited. The villagers, cloaked in their righteousness and fear, must choose: welcome the stranger or protect their own at any cost. Whispers of suspicion twist into judgment, and self-preservation begins to look like virtue. But when faith becomes a mask for fear, who truly is the sinner?
Our ensemble has spent the past semester exploring big ideas around ‘fear of the unfamiliar’ working with renowned Physical Theatre specialists, Sam and Hayden from Shock Therapy. Our performers used movement, collaboration, and improvisation to shape this bold and thought-provoking response. This is The Island — a brand-new one-act play inspired by Armin Greder’s haunting picture book. It has been an honour to work alongside our Year 7 and 8 students for the past two terms. Enjoy the show!
