Picture-perfect big day for Sarah and Donal BY EVE KELLIHER

PROPOSAL on Cape Clear on New Year’s Day 2015 led to wedding bells for Sarah O’Connell and Donal McCrohan recently. Sarah, from west Cork, and Donal, from Valentia Island, were wed in the Prince of Peace Church in Fossa, by the groom’s cousin Fr Dan Ahern, and held their reception in Carrig Country House, Killorglin. Killarney photographer Marek Hajdasz captured the big day on camera, while helping the newlyweds celebrate were both sets of parents Jula and Mick O’Connell and Mary and Dan McCrohan as well as the bride’s grandmother Eily O'Connell. Sarah’s daughter Lily O’Connell was bridesmaid while Donal’s friend Liam Mulcahy was best man. The bride and groom’s paths first crossed when they were both doing their Master’s degree research in Cork Institute of Technology in 2003, but they didn’t start dating until 2007. The big day was memorable and enjoyable, with family members playing a key role. “Everybody came together and was a part of the day. My mother, who works with Hanako florists, did the flowers, and Fr Dan, Donal's cousin, performed the ceremony,” said Sarah. “Donal's cousin Breda Barron and his mother, Mary, made the cake; Emily, my sister, did the invitations and wedding booklets, and my brother Maitiu was our DJ.” The newlyweds, who are based in Cork City, honeymooned in Croatia and Italy.
