What do you get when you put together a missing parcel, a photoshoot cancelled in error, £100 parking fine, no sleep before 4am and an inbox that’s almost full each time you log in?.... An end result you can look back on and say “it was all worth it” ... SAY HELLO to the 1st issue of the KIDZOOTD MAGAZINE.
Kidzootd – Kidz Outfit Of The Day is for parents, relatives and friends who like to buy what they see fit but haven’t got the time to search hundreds of shops to find the newest trend or something they like. We are here to make that job a lot easier. Shopping for children can be more like shopping for the occasion. From nursery, trips to the park, parties, to family meals out. All can come with a different style and budget and we get that, - it’s how we like to shop! We don’t take things too seriously here, at the end of the day its all about kids having fun. Fashion can be relaxed and fun for both parents and children to enjoy! Kidzootd magazine will be the ultimate kids guide, not only focusing on the HUGE kids fashion scene but also lifestyle, toys, accessories, hair and much more. As you will see throughout the magazine we have met and will continue to meet amazing and talented adults and children from all over the world. All those involved have been a such a pleasure to get to know and work with. Although this may now sound like I am about to Beyonce myself to the stage and receive an award….. I cannot help but take this opportunity to thank my own children, you are both the reason I stay motivated and focused every single day!

And of course to all my wonderful friends and family who participate and assist in our photoshoots, listen to me banging on about the newest brand in town and who love Kidzootd just as much as I do! It’s so important to have a good team surrounding you and I am proud to say I have that. I am also super proud to have Art Director & Photographer, Michelle Maycock and Creative Director Dean Gordon to work with on this project. Michelle and I have worked together on collaborations since 2015 and we love to capture real kids in real life scenarios within our fashion editorials. The Childrens Play Village One of the things I love to do is find new places to take the kids for a fun day out.
My friend sent me a link of a new local attraction and I could not hold my excitement when I first saw The Childrens Play Village ! Forget the kids, I wanted to go and see it myself. I mean, a mini village full of shops where you can be whoever you want to be letting your imagination run wild. I told my six year old daughter all about it and described how she could jump behind the counter in Lotty’s Tea Room to take all her customer orders, then grab a doctors coat to assist with an emergency, right before dropping her pet poodle to the village vets. Ohhh there’s so many creative ways to play and it’s all wrapped up in the cutest little village.

We both have families and children of our own and felt there really was something missing for children who loved imaginative play. There are plenty of wonderful and well needed play provision that give children the opportunity to physically ‘run out of steam’, and we felt having watched our children play there was room for something like The Play Village that offered the space, freedom and environment to play in an imaginative and creative way. We also felt that the time for children to simply play and explore is becoming less and less with the pressures of our busy daily lives and the target pressures placed on schools. Of course, there is a lot more ups and downs to our journey and it’s been such a lot of fun (and some growing pains) getting to this point to now see children and families thoroughly enjoying the space we have created and saying such kind words about our facility and our incredible team’
The Children’s play village recently opened and we spoke to the co owner, Shelley to find out more.... ‘Nearly two and a half years ago Alan and I had a brief chat to share some business ideas that we had both been thinking about. Like all ideas, there are some that instinctively make more sense than others and our initial thoughts on The Children’s Play Village really did excite us.

Hair Tutorial. Hair styling can be so effective and really compliment an outfit ! We just had to get an exclusive look to try out from the Katie super talented Mom of 2 @abellasbraids. Check out this amazing tutorial Katie put together !!
Step 01 Part the hair in a triangle shaped parting from the forehead to the back, middle of the head. Secure in a ponytail near the point of the triangle with a small elastic.
Step 04 Split the hair into three equal pieces.

Step 02 Using the point of the triangle as a pivot point, take another parting from the center to the side of the head above the ear. Secure this hair into a second ponytail.
Step 05 Start a three strand braid.
Step 03 Repeat step two on the other side.
Step 06 Pancake the hair on one side of the braid as you go by gently pulling out on the edges of the braid. It stays tidier if you do this as you’re braiding rather than waiting until you’re done with the braid.
Step 07 Braid both of the remaining braids in the same manner, but pancake the braid on the side closest to the face on each one.
Step 08 Roll the middle braid up from the bottom into a flower, keeping the pancaked edge on the outside edge.
Step 10 Make another flower bun with the braid on the left side, rolling the hair in toward the center of the head.

Step 09 Secure with bobby pins.
Complete!

Now you have seen how incredible Katie is with hair so it’s time to find out more about her and how she started ... 1) We are loving all the beautiful hair braiding you do, how did you start? Thank you! When my oldest, Abella started preschool, I wanted her to look cute for school every day so I started braiding her hair every morning! I always did a new style each day. After a while, I started getting a lot of comments from moms and teachers at the school saying that they looked forward to seeing each day what I was going to create and this inspired me to start documenting the braids on Instagram. She never had the same style twice that entire school year and didn’t go one day without a braid! It’s kind of just been an obsession of mine ever since! 2) As a mama of two girls, do they like having their hair done? Abella does not! She made me cut her hair short (I’m pretty sure just so I can’t really braid it) and she likes to keep it that way. She just recently started doing her own hair into pigtails and ponytails, though! Charlie adores having her hair done. She doesn’t like the actual process of braiding but she’s always in love with the end result and excited to show it off at school that day. She is also starting to do her own ponytails and loves to try to braid her dolls. 3) When you complete styles how long do they take and how long do looks stay in for ?

Even when you want your hair to grow long, it’s a good idea to trim it occasionally. This prevents split ends and keeps your hair thicker at the ends! I always say, quality is more important that quantity! 2) Heat style as infrequently as possible. Heat styling damages the hair. So when you can braid on wet hair, or let it air dry before braiding, it’s always going to save some breakage!

3) Vitamins! Taking multi vitamins helps to strengthen your hair and nails and makes them grow faster! I always suggest talking to your Dr. before adding vitamins to your daily diet!

6)Random questions A little about you Describe yourself with one hashtag # #creative What’s for dinner tonight ? Home made chicken soup! If you get any ‘child free’ time whats the first you do?
It depends on the style! I would say we spend around 5 minutes to 30 minutes doing her hair in the mornings. The intricate styles, of course, take a lot longer than the simple ones! Same for how long they stay in. It depends on the style. Most of our braids last for just the day but some last a couple of days. If you braid hair when it’s damp, it for sure stays looking nice longer!
I try to get editing photos and videos done when I’m alone usually but I also like to take time for relaxing! Sometimes when I’m feeling fried, I like to go see a movie by myself or take the dog on a walk!
4) Your Instagram page @abellasbraids shows so many different braided looks. Do you create the ideas yourself?
That was fun!
In the beginning, I created most of my own styles. I like to just start with a clean head of hair and start braiding without thinking about the end result to see what I come up with! A lot of times, we get inspiration from other braiding

We are so excited for the launch of her super stylish and super functional changing bags. We had a chat with Jess and here’s the story behind the brand....
So Jess, how has it been starting your own business? Stressful! And definitely a lot more hurdles than I thought but I can honestly say that I’ve loved (almost) every minute of it. Before I had my children, I worked as a lawyer in a very corporate environment but I’d like to think that I’m quite creative and probably always had it in the back of my mind that I wanted to do something for myself. I think corporate organisations still have a long way to go in making flexible working accessible to mums which is really what gave me that push to pursue my own business. I was determined to be able to do something that I was passionate about but also be present for my family. It has definitely been a challenge because it’s all consuming...I eat, sleep and breathe it! I’ve had to learn to compartmentalise so that I have times when I am fully focussed on the business and times when I switch everything off and it is just about my family.
Is there a meaning behind your brand name Nancy & Frank I have two daughters, Nancy who is 3 and Francesca (Frankie) who is 1 - the bags are kind of my third baby so I wanted the name to reflect that and for the brand to be something that is super personal to me.

If you could send a bag to anyone in the world to try who would it be? I am abit of a reality tv lover (please don’t judge me)and I do like Khloe kardashian as I think she keeps it pretty real. Her life isn’t always perfect but she embraces that and I think that’s the same for mum life...it’s not always perfect but we’re trying our best and we want to look good on the journey...with a really cool bag..and of course I think Khloe would totally rock a Nancy & Frank changing bag.

If I have no wifi I ..... lose my mind a little bit....that is something I’m definitely working on though! I think it’s so important to have a break from your phone and laptop occasionally. The other day I was sat in traffic and I saw a girl on a bus just sitting with her own thoughts, it made me think to myself how rare it is to see somebody just sitting and not scrolling through a phone, which is sad really. I don’t want my kids to just see me constantly sat looking at a phone...there’s way more to life than that so I am trying to make a conscious effort to be in the moment more!
When I had my first daughter, I got so bored of using the same bag day in, day out for nearly 2 years so I designed Nancy & Frank bags with a detachable, interchangeable, shoulder strap. This allows you to switch up the look of your bag to suit the season, your outfit or even just your mood! It also means that our bags are totally unisex so if both parents can’t agree on what’s cool, you can each style it up your own way. I’ve always loved handbags and I didn’t want to be toting around something super mumsy just because I had kids, I still wanted to feel like me. With this in mind, I designed the bags with a real focus on fashion and style but also (as a mum of two myself), I knew the bags had to be super functional otherwise it just wouldn’t work - we all just want to make our lives easier, right?!
But then my husband sometimes does things and I think...are you actually for real?! Having said that, he is one of the best people I know and I couldn’t have done the last year without him. It’s so true what they say though, life after kids can definitely become a competition about who’s the most tired and who’s had the harder day...

What’s the best feature of the bags?
I think it’s hard to ever properly unwind from Mum life because you never clock off...my three year old still wakes up about 8 times a night!
One of my favourite things to do is to have a really good boxset on the go and chill out on the sofa with a bottle of wine, a takeaway and my husband (in that order of preference ...)

Now let’s get to know a little about you. You mentioned you are a mom of two young children and wife.... Who gives you the most stress lol ? Hmmmm...tough one, totally depends on which day you ask me! My eldest is at the ‘why?’ stage and my youngest is into absolutely everything so sometimes, even getting out of the door is a challenge!
I never leave the house without ....baby wipes!! I sometimes wonder what the hell I did before I started carrying baby wipes round with me, I seriously use them for everything! Dusty car...baby wipes, make up on your carpet...baby wipes, boyfriend breaks up with you...baby wipes.

Kidzootd are always on the look out for new brands to watch out for and Adam and Louisa (A&L) is one to keep an eye on! Designed in the U.K. A&L childrenswear is an infusion of contemporary lifestyle with couture designs.
The brands Art director Barbara Aranguiz gave us the full details of what’s to come: 1) As a new brand what are you bringing New to the fast growing world of kids fashion? A&L will bring a new interpretation of fashion trends designed to suit any occasion. 2) What will kids love about your clothing ? They are a different kind of cool and you can wear our clothes to so many events. 3) And what will adults love ? They would wish we designed it in their size lol! Also our clothing has been made with the thought of comfort for children. 4) What age range is your clothing for? At the moment 4-12 years. 5) Quality plays a big factor in your brand, how do you source your products? We design in house and we carefully look at the materials. We then handmake each item before it’s sent to production.

6) As a creative designer, where do you find your inspiration from? From everyday life and current fashion trends. We then adapt these ideas to create designs we think are appropriate for children. 7) So the first collection is called polychromatic what will we expect to see? A mix of colours, textures and two tones. The branding will also play a key roll in this collection. 8) Tell us about your capsules collections that you will be bringing out ? These are our more bespoke collections which will show more of the couture eccentric effect and much more playful touches. 9) In five years time, where do you see Adam & Louisa ? Expanding to more products such as accessories and maybe even shoes.

Kidzootd had the chance to speak to two of the hottest mamas on the ‘gram to find out more about the mini me trend and a little more about them.
Name: Emilee Hembrow Age: 26 Location: Gold Coast, Australia 1) Firstly it is such a pleasure to have the chance to speak to you! I remember coming across your Instagram page a few years back and seeing your adorable daughter in her super cute outfits. How old is she now? Hi, thank you for having me! She’s 2 years old now. 2) We can see you love your fashion do you feel it’s important to have your daughter keeping on top of trends ? If so why? I love dressing Aaliyah up, its more fun to me then anything else. I don’t feel that it is important but I enjoy it, its like a hobby to me. 3) What top factors do you look for when buying children’s wear ? Quality, comfort and unique pieces. I like nice fabrics so its not uncomfortable for Aaliyah and that way the clothing also lasts a lot longer. 4) Where do you shop for great bargains on childrens wear ? Majority of the shops are little online boutiques. I find these have the cutest stuff that you can’t find everywhere. Another of my favourite is River Island, they have such cute stuff in baby sizes. 5) If you were to start your own clothing line for kids and could pick one style what would you go for (street, sporty, chic etc)? I think I would go for a more posh/girly look. I love really girly pieces like a pleated skirt with a dress coat to go over the top. 6) As a fan of the mini me trend, how do you go about picking the matching outfits? I find most of my mini me matching outfits online, Instagram is a big help! 7) You look amazing ! How do you juggle maintaining working out, beauty treatments and being a busy mom? Thank you! Its a balance and working together with my husband. He helps me a lot and so does my family (benefits of having a big family). I also bring Aaliyah to a lot of things with me if she cant be watched, e.g. the gym I will just workout from home and make it work. 8) I have never been to Australia, If you were my tour guide for the day where would you take me? I would have to show you where I’m from first (the Gold Coast) we have amazing beaches and a very relaxing vibe here. Then Melbourne for some really amazing food and Sydney for some city shopping. 9) You have a huge following base on Instagram what’s the best thing about this? I love interacting with my followers and speaking to other girls about anything that’s on my mind, whether that’s sharing beauty advice or products I love or fashion related things. Its vice versa, I ask questions also and get lots of feedback, its awesome! 10) Fashion moves so fast, how do you stay on top of the game? I just do what I want and what I like. I get a lot of inspo from fashion pages and blogs and then kind of do my own spin off to the looks I like.

1) Hi Sherry as huge fans of your Instagram account @hausofsherry the first question we all want to know is where do you get your outfit ideas/inspiration from? Truthfully I’m constantly being inspired on a daily basis with anything that meets the eye. Riding the waves of certain trends and appreciating different looks stimulates my mind. Recreating an outfit and combing other statement pieces to my personal style is fun and fulfilling.

2) We notice you rock mini me looks, do you get all the clothing from the same place ? No, I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with many boutique shops on the rise showcasing kids streetwear inspired by main stream urban brands. I’m most comfortable in hybebeast threads and find it easier for my kids to wear comfortably throughout the day. Believe it or not old navy and h&m are my go to stores for basic pieces that go well with their graphic tees or jackets.
3) How do you manage your time to post on Instagram and YouTube along with being a busy mom ? Honestly, I myself find it difficult to answer because I am a working mother from 7-5 4 days a week and I make it a priority to be in present time with my family after work and my days off. Thursdays are usually our unboxing day, we take an OOTD before we head on out with our day. We try to vlog a day on the weekend and dedicate Sundays as family day. Nights when it allows, ill put the kids to sleep and do a bit of editing and respond to DM’S to be engaged with my followers. I use the app PLANOLY that has helped out a lot with scheduling and auto posting my sponsored IG photos on specific dates so it won’t interfere with my work schedule or family time. 4) Do you think there’s anything missing in the children’s fashion industry ? In this era of where streetwear meets high fashion, its amazing to see that many are learning to appreciate an ensemble on kids, who are still being kids. Surprisingly, I’m able to easily dress my kids and coordinate outfits with what’s become available to them. I’d like to think the fashion industry as a whole continues to evolve, the children’s industry will mirror it appropriately.

5)What’s the top staple piece in your kids wardrobes? My son is almost always wearing a fitted hat and my daughter will choose a graphic tee over any piece any day, If it was winter all year long you’ll find them in a hoodie or a coach jacket and sweats.

1) We are loving your daughters wardrobe where’s the top places you like to shop? I love to shop online for my daughter. Ameliajcollection is definitely my number one go to shop. I love how she carries a different range of brands and styles. For special occassions I love to order unique handmade dresses from Isabella Couture. 2) When it comes to children’s wear what are the top factors you look for in an item? The clothes have to be unique and made of good quality fabric. They have to reflect Ashalina’s personality which is girly but a little bit edgy. 3) We all know children grow so quick, what do you do with clothing your daughter no longer fits? Some of the clothes I sell, but there are a few very unique pieces very dear to my heart, that I would love to keep for my future grandkids. Hopefully they would love them as much as I do. 4) As an insta Mom do you do most of your shopping online? I would say I buy 99 percent of clothes for Ashalina online. 5) What’s your favourite item in your daughters wardrobe? It has to be her Nanos outfit from Ameliajcollection along with sneakers from Josefina.

6) Tell us more about your daughter, what does she love to do? Ashalina is such a joyful girl, that loves to explore the world whether its going for a hike up in the mountains, playing with animals, or spending time with her two older brothers. Her best friend Sienna (@karynsphotobooth) lives in San Francisco so we make sure to have a playdate whenever they come to visit LA. Ashalina truly adores her, and their friendship is so special. She loves ballet, dancing, and listening to music. 7) Now we know there’s no such thing as a perfect parent. We all have our parent ‘fails’ (mine being allowing excessive time on computer devices) what’s yours ? I agree, she can definitely spend a little too much time on her Ipad. With 3 kids it can be a little hard to keep them all entertained. Sometimes it’s easier to just hand them these devices so I can clean up or cook, but we make up for it with family time. 8)As a busy mom how do you manage on your time to be active on social media?

‘So what keeps me motivated at Little Ones? The god honest truth is my mother. She has been my ultimate strength to keep my little business going. When I first started, I spent a lot of money setting up the business. At this point, it was at the earliest stages of when my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. I immediately just gave up. I spent everyday in hospital with her hoping she will make it through. I was at the lowest point in my life but with the amazing support from my fiancé, I knew I needed to carry on and make my mother proud. I would spend my days in hospital with her and get home around 10pm and work into the early hours of the morning and do the same thing all over again the next day. I would take anything that was portable and work in the hospital. It really kept me sane and my mind busy and as long as my mum was fighting, so was I. It’s been 3 years since her breast cancer diagnosis, she had the all clear but then had a relapse and was diagnosed with leukaemia last year. She is thankfully in remission again. There are mornings that I would wake up and I felt like giving up, but I always think about my mum and how hard she fought, and how I’ve made Little Ones progress during the toughest time of my life, and that’s what keeps me motivated. For that reason - I will continue to work hard, give customers the great service they deserve and produce high quality products. We also have all kinds of giveaway’s and events where any money raised will be donated to Cancer research and Macmillan support.
