Dear Guests and Friends,

2

Welcome to our sixth annual Cork & Barrel wine event series! We are truly grateful for your support, and for that of the wineries, chefs, restaurants, donors, and volunteers who make these events possible. An extra special welcome and thanks to Sonoma County wineries and guest chefs who have traveled to be with us this year. Through your attendance tonight, you are making a tremendous difference for children and families facing abuse throughout Central Oregon. Thanks to our generous sponsors, all of your donations will go directly to child abuse evaluations, family support and advocacy, therapy on-site, and to helping adults become trained to prevent child abuse. So please, join us in raising a glass - and your bid - to help fund the future for children and families who are impacted by child abuse in our community.

Cheers!

THANK YOU

I continue to be heartened by the strength and courage of the children and parents who pass through our doors; the many individuals who protect children by taking our prevention trainings; the work of KIDS Center staff and community partners; and the dedication of you, our donors. Appropriately addressing child abuse is crucial in building a healthy and strong Central Oregon, and it is in partnership with you, that we continue to strive toward this end.

Over the next biennium, KIDS Center will be implementing these initiatives. Our overarching goal? To maximize the impact of every dollar KIDS Center receives for the benefit of those we serve.

FUN WAYS TO GIVE

1. Improving client access to quality services; 2. Ensuring sufficient resources are available to provide these services; and 3. Optimization of key staff, process, and technology resources.

FOOD

To ensure that our services are there for every child when they need us, KIDS Center engaged in a thorough strategic planning process with a focus on enhancing organizational performance to better serve our most important clientele: children and families. Key outcomes include:

WINE

Currently, KIDS Center provides training and technical assistance to seven counties and Warm Springs as part of our statewide regional Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Intervention (CAMI) Fund grant. A key training hosted by KIDS Center and covered by these funds, Drug Exposed Children, provided an overview of issues related to substance exposure to children, and covered the challenges related to the legalization of marijuana. This vital assistance ensures that staff from child abuse intervention centers (CAICs), law enforcement, medical providers, and child welfare agencies receive the tools they need to provide the best intervention, assessment, and investigation of child abuse cases.

KIDS CENTER

While nationwide trends in child abuse rates are debated, here in Central Oregon, we not only continue to see growing demand for child abuse evaluations, but also for our mental health, advocacy, and family support services. In addition to the growing need for child abuse support services, KIDS Center has experienced increased enrollment in our prevention education and training courses. Over the past year, KIDS Center served a total of 3,830 children, youth, and adults with critical services and trainings.

2018 FEATURED WINE REGION Sonoma County Sonoma County is located an hour north of San Francisco, and is noted for its heritage of artisan winemaking. Founded in 1944, Sonoma County Vintners represents more than 200 wineries and affiliated businesses throughout the Sonoma County. The history of winemaking in Sonoma began back in 1812 when Russian colonists planted grapes on the coast of Sonoma County and history is continually being made by innovative vintners. Today, Sonoma County has 17 unique AVAs and more than 60 grape varieties are planted in this region. Sonoma County is heavily influenced by its close proximity to the Pacific Coast shoreline, and its cool nights and temperate days create the perfect conditions to draw in layers of oceanic fog to chill Sonoma’s warm interior valleys. Local growers will agree that Sonoma County is one of the world’s most ideal growing regions.

With a degree in Fruit Science at California Polytechnic State University, she set off and traveled the world, gaining nearly 2 decades of harvesting experience. After he graduated college, he discovered that winemaking was his passion. THE WALL OF WINE: 70 BOTTLES TO TAKE HOME! Did you see the Wall of Wine on display upon arrival? It’s an AMAZING COLLECTION! This special lot is created from generous donations from wine cellars here in Bend and from wineries we adore…a labor of love to create such a fabulous collection! Now is your time to bid and take these beauties home! Each bottle is valued over $50, with some bottles ranging in value from $100 up to $495 per bottle! - COLLECTION HIGHLIGHTS -

FOOD

• Abacus Cabernet represents, arguably, the most unique bottle available in this

lot. Its namesake pays homage to an ancient counting device – the wine is made in a “solera style” of multiple vintages blended together, allowing the wine to combine the elegance on an older Cabernet Sauvignon with the intensity of fruit found in a young wine. The result? Pure WOW. • Speaking of elegance...the 1993 Cakebread Reserve Cabernet, a Napa Valley

icon, included in this year’s Wall of Wine, will tickle the palate with the subtle sophistication found in an aged wine.

• Carruades Lafite Paulliac, a second wine produced by Château Lafite Rothschild,

is a Left Bank Bordeaux wonder from the Carruades plateau and will appeal to fans of Old World wines. • A lover of Oregon Pinot Noir? Take home 2 bottles of an Oregon classic: Beaux

• A magnum of Gary Farrell Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is a high scoring BIG bottle of fun. • The Pahlmeyer Merlot took home 97 points by James Suckling...soft and velvety

tannins...full body and a juicy, long, long finish.

• The Ridge Monte Bello Cabernet received 98+ points by Antonio Galloni of Vinous

who described it as, “among the greatest Monte Bellos ever made….”
