“Over 100 professionals attended the discussion on Electronic Medical Records.” FAU Students FAU Health Administration Students learned about the Veteran Administration’s world class medical records and imaging system. The Miami VA Medical Center is a partner with five Florida Universities and is the largest processor of electronic medical records in the global VA system. The Miami facility is 100% wireless and employs a doublelayered encrypted network system for all equipment. Our gratitude to Mr. Francis Afram-Gyening, President of SFHEF, for the invitation.

“A world-class healthcare facility visited by world-class FAU faculty researchers and students.” Dr. Liang’s FAU Health IT students, ACHE @ FAU students, and FAU Health Administration professor Dr. Elizabeth Goodrick, toured the new Memorial Hospital Miramar (MHM), a world-class model of excellence for safety, quality, customer service and cost-effectiveness. MHM, located in Broward County, is a new state-of-the-art, fully accredited, acute-care facility, offering a full array of emergency, medical, surgical and outpatient services, all in a wireless and fully integrated administrative setting. Our gratitude to Milin Espino, ACHE @ FAU member, who was responsible for organizing this institutional event. Based on the strong reception from faculty and students, more institutional events are planned for Spring 2006. ACHE @ FAU students welcomed “Dr. Phil” Vogelgesang, COO of Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, who spoke to students on Leadership in Healthcare. Phil Vogelgesang, J.D, FACHE, began his career as a lawyer and quickly switched to healthcare. His former Indiana University Law School classmate is Dan Quayle. Mr. Vogelgesang has been involved in almost every aspect of the healthcare industry, and at almost every level in the organization. His wealth of experience, industry knowledge, and involvement in ACHE provided students a broad outlook on leadership, and insight on how ACHE can

ACHE @ FAU students listened to an interesting panel discussion on Sarbanes-Oxley and its influence on For-Profit and Not-For Profit Healthcare organizations, moderated by Linda Quick, President of the South Florida Hospital & Healthcare Association. The panel was led by:

Tom Rozek – CEO Miami Children’s Hospital Jim Petkas – CFO HCA Healthcare, East Florida Division Anne Payne – CPA, Partner with PriceWaterhouseCoopers Bill Spratt – Partner with Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham LLP Zeff Ross, FACHE spoke about the importance and value ACHE membership plays in advancing your healthcare career. Two equally qualified candidates, one from FIU and one from FAU interview for a hospital position. The FIU candidate has good grades, but no involvement or network.
