Reflection on ICON

I had the honor of attending Key Club International Convention from July 5th to July 9th. It was an incredible experience that allowed me to further my knowledge of our amazing organization, meet Key Clubbers from around the world, discover new ways to assist clubs in my divisions, help select the 2017-2018 International Board, and bond with my fellow Texas-Oklahoma Key Clubbers! We began the week with an opening session and meet & greet session on Wednesday 7/5. The next day, July 6th, Key Clubbers from around the world participated in a group session on the “courage to engage”, and attended forums on different aspects of Key Club, listened to a lecture by a motivational speaker, and bonded with other Key Clubbers at the first ICON dance of the week. On Friday, July 7th, we attended a couple more forums and a group session on the “call to lead”, participated in caucuses with the T-O district, and recognized outstanding Key Clubbers in the Recognition ceremony. In House of Delegates on Saturday I had the chance to vote on our incoming International Board. The Texas-Oklahoma district finished out the week with an exhilarating trip to Fiesta Texas.

Divisional Council Meeting

This month, on July 14th, Division 9W hosted our first DCM of the 2017-2018 Key Club year. I am happy to report that we had representatives from Rudder High School Key Club, Bryan High School Key Club, and Kiwanis of College Station present at the DCM! The DCM began with a potluck picnic lunch, followed by a meeting on the status of our division, and ended with a park clean up service project.

Youth Opportunities Fund What is the Youth Opportunities Fund? The Youth Opportunities Fund(YOF) is an endowed fund for Key Club International held within Kiwanis International Foundation. What does the YOF do? YOF awards grants to help Key Clubbers from around the world take action. Service projects in your schools and communities can be funded by YOF grants. How can you apply for a YOF grant? Key Clubs can fill out a YOF grant application requesting between $100 to $2000. You can find the application at keyclub.org/yof. All applications must be submitted by October 15th at 11:59pm. How are YOF grants awarded? The YOF committee of the KCI board reviews the applications and selects the projects they would like to award grants to. The committee is more likely to select your application if you are requesting a grant for a part of the costs instead of the entire project cost. Funding notifications are sent out no later than January 1st each year.

Flip to CKI

As the Class of 2017 gets ready to embark on their college career, encourage your peers to consider joining Circle K International. Joining CKI would allow for students to continue their involvement in the Kiwanis family, serve their communities, and enrich their academic experience. When it is time to further your education, consider joining the world’s largest student led collegiate organization.
