keeping your audience in mind when creating content and branding.

4. Pick your social media platforms. There’s no need to create an account on every social media platform on the net. It’s better to focus on those that are relevant to your company and audience, and maintain an active presence across those platforms by posting regularly, responding to messages, and updating your information as required.

5. Choose your budget. Do you spend on pay-per-click ads? On written content creation? On social media? On banner ads? On email campaigns? There’s an endless list of places to invest budget when it comes to digital, so don’t forget to set your financial parameters before you begin in order to avoid overstepping them.

6. Try something new occasionally. Once you’re up and running with the basics such as email newsletters, website blogs, paid ads, and Facebook posts, don’t be afraid to try something new every now and then. A one-off giveaway or competition can be a fun way to keep your brand fresh, and to help you experiment with new ideas.

7. Run test and learns. Test and learns are a tried and trusted tool for all manner of consumer products, and they work just as effectively in the digital space. They are designed to allow you to test new products, ideas, or approaches in a limited customer segment, so you can extrapolate those results to see what might happen should you implement that approach across the board.

In this case, it could be a variation on a banner ad, an email newsletter subject title, a call to action, a discount, or just about anything else. Should something go poorly, remember that this is to be expected from time to time, and that the main thing is to learn from it.

Perhaps a blog or social media post saw hundreds of shares, likes, and comments, but didn’t generate a single sale. Maybe you can see that your target market is certainly clicking on your banner ads, but for some reason they aren’t signing up. Finding weak points in the sales funnel will help you see where to look for problems that need addressing immediately. It could be as simple as adding a stronger CTA to the blog or fixing a broken URL in your banner ad.

9. Don’t forget to ask for help. While the internet is a wonderful tool for teaching yourself the ins and outs of digital marketing strategies 101, it’s not quite the same as years of specialised instruction, paired with experience and industry knowledge. That’s why reaching out to seek help from professional digital marketing companies and strategists can make all the difference when you’re stuck for what to do next.

10. Rinse and repeat. The advice in this article is not just for one-time use. Go back over steps and tools that you found useful for your business and goals, rinse away the ones that were less helpful, and repeat with those that brought you closer to what your digital presence to be.

Why i started Ryan Spaccavento Founder It’s no secret that Melbourne is a world leader in cafe culture. What I noticed when I’ve attended Melbourne-based events is a huge gap between the quality of coffee you can get from any one of Melbourne’s great cafes and what you typically get served at an event. Whenever I’ve asked “have you ever had a bad coffee at an event?” most people have typically piped up and responded with an abrupt “yes”. Put simply, the standard of event coffee was something of yesteryear - while Melbourne’s cafes are serving specialty, locally roasted individually brewed cups of coffee to perfection, event coffee has for a large part remained the forgotten sibling. That disparity was the catalyst that drove us to bring the quality and standard of coffee that we as Melbournians have grown to love (and expect) in our daily routines to business events. Our original mission started with a simple goal, to “save people from drinking bad coffee at events”. Since then,

we’ve grown and developed into something that is bigger but that ethos still exists and still drives what we do today. One of the critical pieces of the puzzle that fell into place when we got going was seeing the sheer impact and difference that having a coffee cart at an event made. When people are given free coffee they’re usually pretty happy. But when it’s g​reat​ free coffee with some genuinely friendly service, it’s a game changer. How do we know this? Well, when there’s coffee at an event, we’ve noticed that people tend to stay in the space. They queue up, they network, they mingle. The coffee cart becomes a hub for activating conversations and exchanges between people that might’ve otherwise dispersed. In this way, the humble coffee cart is everything it claims to be, and yet so much more. The way that a coffee cart activates connection is twofold. On the one hand, coffee has always provided a social platform for individuals who might not have an easy way to break the ice. You only need to look to Melbourne’s brunch culture for proof of that concept. But on the other hand, for a brand, free coffee at an event c​reates​a platform to connect, to share a message, to ignite conversations that might not have happened. Five years on, the standards for event coffee that we’ve been pushing towards are becoming increasingly popular. This has been a much needed step in the right direction and one I’m proud to have been a part of. It’s a push towards benefiting event organisers just as much as those attending our events.

Franchise Your Business LegalVision is a NewLaw firm that aims to improve legal services. We specialise in commercial law including franchising, and this article sets out how you can turn your growing business into a franchise system.

1. Structuring a Franchise System Franchise systems commonly have a business structure where the business founders own shares in a holding company. The holding company owns the rights to the business concept and should own all of the trade marks for the brand. This holding company also owns 100% of the shares in the operating companies of the franchise system. The operating company does the trading of the business, such as entering into contracts with franchisees and employees. Most retail franchise systems will have three operating companies: - X Franchising Pty Ltd; - X Leasing Pty Ltd; and - X Operations Pty Ltd.

2. Protecting Your Concept When setting up your new franchise system you need to protect your unique business concept using a trade mark. You can trademark your business name, logo, and slogan. The application process takes seven to eight months, so if you haven’t trademarked your business name already, you should start the application process as soon as possible. 3. Systemisation and Operations Thirdly, you need to turn your business concept into a system so that a potential franchisee can run a store and still provide the same quality of goods or services. 4. Legal Documents The fourth step to setting up a franchise system is making sure that you have your legal documents in place. Under the Franchise Code of Conduct your franchisees will need to receive a copy of the: - franchise agreement; - disclosure document; - Franchisee Information Statement; and - lease or licence to the store premises (if you have physical stores). To ensure you set up this system correctly, you should find a franchise lawyer to draft a master franchise agreement, disclosure document, and licence to

occupy (if you have physical stores). These documents cover the details and terms of a franchisee owning a store or branch in your franchise system. The Franchisee Information Statement is a document provided as a matter of form by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission that you can provide to your franchisees. 5. Recruiting Franchisees Once these steps are complete, you are ready to recruit franchisees into your franchise system. Often, franchise systems take special care when selecting their first couple of franchisees as they are brand ambassadors, some franchise systems have even recruited employees in their existing store to be their first franchisees.
