Speakers: Sam Evans (The Electric Viking)
As Australia’s transition to electric mobility gains serious traction, the Melbourne EV Show returns not just as a showcase of the latest vehicles, but as a vital forum for learning, discussion, and action. The shift to EVs is no longer a niche concern — it’s a mainstream movement. And for three full days, the FutureDrive Live Stage will become the country’s most relevant platform for those ready to join it.
Here, the nation’s top experts, advocates, and innovators will dive into the most pressing topics in electric mobility. From untangling finance options and tax savings to unpacking smart charging, sustainability, and vehicle-to-grid technology, the sessions are designed to inform and empower both first-time buyers and seasoned EV drivers alike. If you’ve got questions — about cost, range, charging, tech, or lifestyle — this is where you’ll find the answers.
Navigating the Dollars: Tax, Leasing and Incentives
EV affordability is front of mind, and the program kicks off with clear, practical advice on how to make the most of available tax incentives. Andy Larmour, KPMG’s national EV tax lead, will explain the ins and outs of novated leasing and FBT exemptions - sharing real examples of how EV ownership can deliver major savings. Supporting sessions hosted by Smartgroup, Paywise and Carloop break down loans, insurance, and government rebates in simple terms.
For many, this event marks the starting line of their EV journey. That’s where the “EVs 101” panel comes in — a must-attend for anyone still weighing up whether electric is right for them. Moderated by Tom Gan, and featuring panellists including Bryce Gaton, Riz Akhtar and Pete Thorne, this session covers the essentials: how to choose a model that suits your lifestyle, what kind of range you really need, how charging works at home or on the go, and what the servicing landscape looks like for EVs compared to petrol vehicles. It’s an honest, practical guide designed to help you take the first step — without the sales pitch.
Charging is still one of the biggest perceived
barriers to EV adoption, and this year’s program goes deep on the topic — not just how to charge, but how to charge smarter. In a dedicated session on home charging, speakers from MSI and Cube Automation will explore the real costs, installation requirements and future-proofing strategies for homeowners. You’ll hear how EV charging can tie into solar systems, smart meters and other connected home tech to lower bills and increase control.
From the home to the grid, another major focus is the growing potential of Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology — allowing EVs to not only draw power but also supply it back to the energy system. In a compelling fireside chat, Dan Adams, Co-CEO of Amber Electric, will join The Electric Viking (Sam Evans) to explore how V2G could unlock huge cost savings for drivers and help stabilise the grid as we move to renewable energy. These discussions aren’t about what’s possible five years from now — they’re about what’s starting to happen today.
There’s still confusion around EVs - and the EV Myth Busting panel sets the record straight. Featuring voices like Bryce Gaton, Andrea Persico and Sam Evans, the session will tackle common concerns around range, battery life and safety with facts, figures and real-world insight.
Electric vehicles are no longer just for early adopters. Whether you’re a parent, commuter or regional driver, panels on family practicality, hybrid options and upcoming 2025–26 models will give you a clearer view of what suits your needs nowand what’s coming next.
This year’s Live Stage isn’t about hype — it’s about helping Australians make informed, confident choices as the future of transport unfolds. Whether you’re looking to learn, buy or simply stay ahead of the curve, this is where the EV conversation gets real.

EV Adoption Trends in Australia's Key States
As you consider the switch to an electric vehicle, it's inspiring to see how quickly EV adoption is growing across Australia. Let's take a look at the exciting progress and examine the trends in Australia's most populous states: New South Wales and Victoria.
Victoria is rapidly catching up in the EV race, demonstrating a strong commitment to electric mobility. Carloop's data for Victoria reveals a similar pattern of accelerated growth, with EV registrations surging from 2022 onwards. This indicates a growing awareness and acceptance of EVs among Victorian drivers, supported by expanding charging infrastructure and favourable government policies.
Luxury has always been a reflection of what we value, what we aspire to, and how we choose to move through the world. For decades, luxury in the automotive world was indulgent, excessive, and often a little loud. But that definition is changing.
Recently named Drive.com.au’s 2025 Luxury Car of the Year under $100,000, Polestar 4 represents the new type of luxury that’s quietly taking hold: one that favours intelligent design, refined performance, and sustainable material choices. On display at this year’s Melbourne International EV AutoShow, the SUV-coupé comes together to create an experience that feels more authentic and more aligned with modern values.
From the outside, Polestar 4’s design is where this philosophy becomes immediately clear. Built from the ground up, not one detail on this car was left undesigned, thanks to a team of engineers and designers who worked tirelessly to create a car that is not only striking to look at, but functional and comfortable, too. Polestar 4 exudes quiet confidence, from its smooth aerodynamic silhouette to its serene, minimalist interior.
One of the most striking (and symbolic) design features is the exclusion of a rear window. This deliberate choice was made to allow more light through an extended panoramic glass roof, more generous space for rear passengers, and to integrate an innovative digital rear-view mirror system, offering an enhanced field of vision through a high-definition camera. It’s the kind of rethinking that perfectly balances form, function and finesse.
That balance carries through to how the Polestar 4 feels in motion. Quiet and powerful, driving Polestar 4 is instantly thrilling. The electric motors deliver instant acceleration without the drama. The luxury of seamless response, whether on winding roads or long stretches of highway, means that the driving experience is feeling the car working with you, rather than demanding anything from you.
Inside, the cabin is calm, considered, and quietly indulgent. Sustainable materials are used where possible - not as a compromise, but as a principle. Developing and choosing recycled and bio-based textiles was not just because they’re better for the
planet, but because they feel better. The result is a space that’s light, modern, and incredibly comfortable. No visual clutter. No over-engineered complexity. Just a feeling that everything is where it should be, proving that responsible choices can still feel luxurious.
Technology in the Polestar 4 enhances the driver experience without overwhelming it. With Google built-in, the infotainment experience is intuitive and familiar, reducing distraction while enhancing utility. Navigation, music and climate are managed effortlessly, either by the infotainment screen or by Google voice assistant. Advanced driver assist features offer support without intrusion, integrating seamlessly into a smart, safe drive.
But what truly sets Polestar 4 apart is how cohesively these elements come together. Every material and detail exists for a reason. Nothing feels superfluous. Everything feels resolved. This is luxury, not just as showmanship, but as intelligent design. In this way, the Polestar 4 speaks directly to what modern drivers are seeking: a vehicle that doesn’t just elevate the drive, but aligns with how we want to live: simpler, smarter and more consciously.
As drivers gravitate toward vehicles that reflect how they want to live, luxury is no longer just about what a car is made from, but how it makes you feel. Polestar 4 sets itself apart not by outshouting the rest, but by carefully balancing every aspect of the luxury driving experience. True luxury is found in the details you don’t have to think about. It's a feeling that’s quiet, confident, yet totally uncompromising. And in the award-winning Polestar 4, that feeling is brought to life through purposeful design, intuitive technology, and a driving experience that leaves nothing behind.
The smart automotive brand was created to deliver a completely new paradigm in urban mobility. With a brand heritage spanning three decades it is no surprise that the new chapter in smart automotive history is electric.
The joint expertise of Mercedes-Benz and Geely has created a new family of all-electric smart mobility that is not only of the minute but also pointing to the future.
The new nomenclature for the smart EV models is a clear indicator of the brand’s new ethos of ‘Open Your Mind.’ The combination of the “#” symbol followed by a number defines a recognizable smart family name for its new generation of allelectric vehicles. The “#” symbol being evocative of trendsetting in the digital era is fitting, because ever since its first production car unveiling at IAA in 1997, smart has been striving for innovation and has remained a trendsetter in the automotive industry.
Designed by Mercedes-Benz
The all-new smart EV range, consisting of the three smart #1 and three smart #3 models –including a high performance BRABUS version for both models, is the product of the collaboration of the Mercedes-Benz Design Studio team - which introduced a new design-DNA for the brand, and Geely’s world leading EV R&D and production team.
Thanks to the design philosophy applied by the
Mercedes-Benz global design team, the smart range features pure and elegant streamlined exteriors, delivering the perfect balance of aesthetics and aerodynamics.
The new smart all-electric range was specifically designed with the new mobility needs of users in mind, providing a whole new sensation of space inside the cabin through intelligent use of their unique e-mobility platform architecture. This directly plays into meeting premium and high-tech demands of users. All interior designs are defined by superior room efficiency, supported by unique design features such as the ambient light and floating centre consoles.
Thanks to their modern software environment, every smart #1 or #3 is an intelligent companion in everyday life, supporting the driver with an intuitive ecosystem for driving, such as a highway assistant (HWA) and automatic parking assist (APA). The smart range also features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, allowing drivers to bring smartphone features and apps to the comprehensive and engaging infotainment system.
A convenient charging experience remains a high priority for smart and its customers. With efficient DC- charging technology, and a performance of up to 150 kW/h, the smart range can charge from 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes.
