Adopt a Bed campaign: Current status By Yvonne Gichuru The Kenyatta National Hospital ‘Adopt a Bed’ campaign has received a major boost over the past two months from various well-wishers around the country. The campaign, which aims at giving comfort to KNH patients by adopting a bed at approximately Kshs. 45,000 for a general bed; twocrank with a mackintosh mattress, has continued to gain great momentum. KNH CEO, Dr. Evanson Kamuri said that the beds will help in service delivery as the patients will spend their treatment days in comfort. “These beds occupy small spaces compared to the beds which were there before and are also standardized and adjustable so the patients can move more comfortably. Our healthcare workers will therefore continue to help patients by giving our best to ensure positive outcomes,” he said. He added that the beds will be branded in honor of the donors who will always be welcome to visit the wards. So far, we have received 46 beds from 18 well-wishers as at 27 th January, 2022 from different sectors as well as individuals and families. A highlight to this initiative was a donation from Dr. Rowena Njeri and friends. The beds were branded in honor of long-serving doctors that have dedicated their lives to medical practice and training. The team demonstrated the essence of their profession – ‘medicine in use of service’. The KNH staff were not left behind as our very own Finance department team led by the Director, Mr. Michael Kihuga also participated in the campaign. “This donation poses a challenge to other departments within the hospital to follow suit in this worthy cause for our patients.” said Dr. Kamuri. Mr. Kennedy Mbogo - Ag. Director, Affiliation & Institutional Development (AID), encouraged all people interested to support the campaign including individuals, families and organizations to continue with this cause which will greatly impact the patient’s
