Ms. Kangema later enrolled in Mental Health online classes and got a High Diploma in Community Health and Preventive Medicine.

“It helped me understand and accept every situation for my good and to be capable of handling patients as a nurse too. I had decided to venture into epilepsy training to help other parents like me. When you overcome the stigma from within you, you can easily conquer the stigma around you- that’s where it all starts.”

“Epilepsy caregiving and treatment needs one to first understand the type of epilepsy, the kind of challenges the patients and parents are going through and connect with them at a personal level which is what I do”, Ms. Kangema concluded.

Her son is now 32 years old and is a very productive young man who loves doing poultry farming and other farm work as long as heavy machinery and electricity are not involved due to the seizures that occur at unexpected times.

Ms. Kangema is a member of Epilepsy Alliance of Africa, Cerebral Palsy of Kenya, National Epilepsy Coordinating Committee, and a training specialist in ADAT Foundation. From Ms. Kangema’s experience, it is possible to have a child with such conditions and still thrive emotionally and socially while still providing the child with the best opportunities. Being a nurse, she can connect with the patients and mothers easily because she knows the rejection they undergo.

KNH marked the 15th All Faith Annual Prayer Day on Wednesday 26th January, 2022 at Tower block 2 nd floor open space led by Ag. HOU Chaplaincy, Fr. John Kariba.

The day was guided by the theme drawn from the book of Jeremiah 29:1 1; ‘For I know the plans I have for you, the plans to prosper you and not harm you.

The event was held physically and was broadcasted live on the hospital’s Facebook page: Kenyatta National Hospital. The prayers were offered for staff and family members, patients and their relatives, KNH management and surrounding institutions, National County government, Covid-19 and other life-threatening diseases.

The guest preacher; Rev. Capt. Kennedy Owino Ochieng had encouraging words for the congregation: “God has not abandoned us. Let us ensure our ship (KNH) does not sink because God has good plans for all of us. When Israelites were in captivity in Babylon, God had good plans for them and He eventually delivered them. We should always pray and work as God intends us to, as we wait upon him in all our endeavors.

The Senior Director Clinical Services, Dr. Irene Inwani was in attendance and on behalf of the CEO, she appreciated the Chaplaincy Unit for the holistic care they give to patients, relatives and staff and for planning the 15th hospital Annual Prayer Day. She said, ‘We are agents of change in our various workplaces and we should always remember to thank God and serve Him better.’

In attendance also was Ag. Director Nursing Services, Ms. Raheli Mukhwana who reminded the congregation to always remember that God is still to be exalted in everything (Psalm 46:10).

The Director Health Care Quality, Dr. Lydia Okutoyi further added: “The doctor treats and God heals. We cannot do without Him and we should therefore seek Him always while He may be found.

POSITIVE MENTIONS FROM KNH FACEBOOK PAGE

1. Faith Ronoh: I was very much grateful for the warm discussion with the Director of Human Resource. God bless her abundantly. She is a true definition of a mother.

2. Judie Mwitari: I loved everything. Best maternity services, by professionals. God bless KNH workers.

3. Paul Kimani: KNH sijui nitaanza na gani. Year 2000 nilivunjika mkono na after kutibiwa kwa hospitali mingi, wakasema solution ni kuikata. Wakati nlienda KNH, within 3 days nikafanyiwa operation nikawa admitted for 3 days na hio mkono sasa iko sawa. 2007 kuna mtoto wangu alikuwa amepata growth kwa tumbo alikuwa amezaliwa premature but mlimfanyia tu surgery na akatoka akiwa salama. 2009 wife yangu alikuja akiwa mgonjwa sana mpaka hakuwa hata anasimama wakati aliingia mlimshughulikia haraka sana. 2010,2012,2015 wife alijifungulia watoto huko thanks. Hata kesho tuko huko Paediatric Neuro Clinic. Tunawapenda sana #KNHinaweza.
