Homestead Angus Welcome

Another year has come and gone, and we find ourselves in our eleventh year of selling purebred black angus bull calves. This is our fifth DLMS Farmgate Auction after seven years of private treaty bull sales and we really appreciate the partnership with Mark and Joanne and are confident that this is the best way to market our bulls and to meet our buyer’s needs for the best value. Our program continues to grow and develop and we are confident that this year’s offering will more than satisfy our valued customers.

We have carefully selected these sale bulls to catalogue this year. We have studied them throughout last summer and during the winter, judging them on not just their performance but also their structure and temperament. Any bull that did not prove good performance or cope well with being moved around, handled, pictured, etc. simply does not make the cut. We know the dams of these bulls well and have seen the same strong traits year after year in their calves, which means we can be confident that you will be happy with your selection from our pen.

The drought began to break last summer and while there were no bumper crops after so many difficult years, we were relieved to have some feed in the stackyard and the bin this past fall. We are again encouraged by the quantity of snow and are hoping for an amazing runoff. As always in this ‘next year country,’ we are looking forward to lush grass for grazing and full crops to fill the stack yards, bins and pit.

We are again excited about the quality of calves on the ground so far this season, particularly with the purchase of a Brooking Emerald son from Pederson’s, and a Colossal son from DKF Angus last year. During the past eleven years of Homestead Angus, Calvin and I have each juggled a couple of day jobs, parenting, volunteering, the commercial herd, and our growing purebred program. Our operation, and those putting in the daily work, has evolved as the kids are growing up and moving away to pursue their own dreams and education. We appreciate that the kids come home to help whenever possible and they each contribute so much when they can be here. We are so grateful to have the team that we do and to be able to work with our kids, nieces, nephews, siblings and grandparents that always lend a hand.

We also appreciate the opportunity to work alongside Darcy Elliott of Elliott Bros. and Chance Scott for the Open House and Farmgate Auction each year. Both these men appreciate good cattle, and are always happy to pitch in and talk about cows!

Another partner in the successful development of our bulls, as well as the daily maintenance of the cow herd, is Bullseye Feeds. Brayden is a pleasure to work with and Bullseye’s guidance has ensured that our bulls have seen the growth and development we desire, yet maintain the functionality and longevity that we value most. At the time of writing this we have plenty of calves on the ground and the cows and newborns are healthy and independent, thanks to overall good health. Thanks for taking a moment to flip through the catalogue, and we welcome you to join us for some Homestead Hospitality at our Open House on THURSDAY, APRIL 17th. We really enjoy spending this day with our previous buyers and welcoming new guests to the farm to see our program first hand. If the open house doesn’t work out for you, please give Calvin a shout or stop in for a coffee and he can help find a bull to meet your needs.

Our DLMS Farmgate Sale kicks off on Saturday, April 19th and concludes with a racehorse finish on Sunday, April 20th at 6 pm.

Elliott Bros

I’d like to welcome everyone to our 2025 offering; what an exciting time to have cattle. This year I have a good selection of bulls for your appraisal. We have a new sire group in our Cudlobe Monumental 32K bull that should work well for our commercial clients; he’s long, has good frame, and his calves like to gain. Our bulls are developed with longevity in mind; we feed our yearling bulls down at Cattleland in Strathmore and we shoot for 3.50 lbs per day gain… anything more is a bonus.

We are changing directions a bit and going for more two year olds bulls in our program. We are thrilled to announce new genetics coming down the pipeline. We had an opportunity to purchase a new bull this spring, Avelyn Mr. Macho 231M, the high selling bull from our friends at Avelyn Angus and can’t wait to start using him. He’s a Showtime son that brings the complete package, along with calving ease.

I’m also getting more involved with embryos to bring in those genetics that are new or harder to come by. Another new addition to the sale is that I will be offering some embryos, as our flush cow did an amazing job and I thought I would share. We also have two heifers in the sale that come from the top of our herd, out of some proven genetics that are working in many other herds .

I would like to welcome Chance Scott and family to the Homestead Sale this year and wish them well. I would like to thank the Powells again for inviting me to this sale for year number five; it is a pleasure to work with them as always. Thank to my parents for all they do for me; I appreciate you and my brother Dionne and Tricia for the extra help too. Thanks as well to Kenadie Thornton for helping at the Northern… thank you, sweetheart. I would also like to thank everyone who has shown interest in my program, from the odd call to chatting with local cattle producers, from bidders to buyers. THANK YOU.

INVESTMENT 1054J

Hello everyone,

Drop Anchor Cattle Co.

I am extremely excited to see cattle prices remain strong and be a part of the industry at this pivotal time with forecasts predicting record highs this fall. With this year’s sale being my first time consigning and selling bulls, I am proud to offer two of the best bulls I’ve ever raised since starting in 2021. Since starting in the purebred business, I have focussed on selecting cows that are easy keeping in ranch conditions.

Along with my two bulls, this is an exceptional offering from both Homestead Angus and Elliot Bros. that they should be extremely proud of. I would like to thank both operations for allowing me to work alongside them on this sale. I would also like to thank my parents, Cody and Joleen Scott, along with my brother, Colby Scott, for the support they have given me the past few years while I have been chasing the dream of developing and operating my seed stock operation; without them, it would have not been possible.

If you have any questions about the bulls, please don’t hesitate to give me a call at 403-854-1455 or come out to the open house to enjoy some hospitality and evaluate some outstanding bulls.

Thanks,

Chance Scott
Drop Anchor Angus Co.

2M is a bull that will add power and hair to your calf crop. We are very happy with his robust hip construction and the dimension he exhibits through his ribs. His expansive fore rib ties into a well-made shoulder that balances out the mass he carries throughout his body. You won’t want to miss the chance to throw him on some cows.

This bull is a clean fronted and deep ribbed bull that will work great on heifers or cows with his 78lb birth weight. His dam is one of the deepest and structurally correct cows in our program and we are sure he will translate these traits into his daughters while still throwing eye-catching and powerful sons. This stout boned bull won’t have a problem walking pastures all breeding season and losses the structural soundness to serve your program for many years to come.
