North Grenville Coun. Jim Bertram has been diagnosed with two types of cancer and is stepping away from council-related responsibilities for an unspecified period of time. Bertram made the announcement at the beginning of the Feb. 20 North Grenville committee of the whole meeting. “Last week, I received a diagnosis of two forms of cancer with which I am currently struggling,” Bertram said. “The illness itself, plus its intended treatment forms, will soon render it impossible for me to actively perform my various work-related functions.” Health concerns have limited Bertram’s ability to attend council functions in the past. He noted that for the last several weeks, he has found his energy level declining. He also disclosed that his cancer treatment will begin very soon. “I’m going to do my best to get back here and do what I do, but it’s going to take a bit of time,” he said. Bertram advised that his responsibilities as councillor will be looked after by the rest of the members of council as follows: Deputy Mayor
