保護者歓迎行事（ペアレンツ・デー

11月下旬、ニューヨーク学院では毎年恒例のペアレ ンツデーが開催され、多くの保護者の皆さんがキャン パスを訪れました。複数日にわたるこのイベントは、木 曜日の夜にスピーカー・ホールで行われたコンサートで 幕を開け、到着した家族は生徒たちの歌や演奏を楽し みました。

金曜日、ペアレンツデーは本格的に始まります。 朝、スピーカーズ・ホールの受付で保護者の皆さんにス ケジュールが配布され、ハウスの説明会が行われまし た。その後、教室棟で各クラスの担任による説明会もあ りました。各教科担当教員が、保護者の皆さんからの 質問を受けながら、各教科のカリキュラムや授業の進 め方についてのプレゼンテーションを行いました。午後 からは保護者と担当教員の個人面談時間が設けられま した。

夕刻、教職員と保護者がダイニング・ホールでのレ セプションに参集し、タウンゼント学院長のスピーチで 幕を閉じました。その後、寮の主催によるハーベスト・ フェスティバルが教室棟の入口で行われました。各ハウ スから､日本的なおでん､アメリカ的なホットチョコレー トやスモアなどがふるまわれました。参加者は、芸術的 に彫刻されたカボチャを鑑賞しながら、おいしい食べ 物を味わいました。翌日の土曜日は、教員だけでなく寮 監との個人面談も行われました。

Parents’ Weekend

At the end of November, Keio Academy hosted its annual Parents’ Weekend. Many families attended the multiday event that was packed with activities. The event commenced on Thursday evening with performances by talented student musicians and singers in the Speakers’ Hall. The concert had a very festive atmosphere, as parents were excited to see their children perform.

On Friday morning, Parents’ Weekend began in earnest in the Speakers’ Hall, as the information desk welcomed all parents and distributed schedules. House sessions and group meetings with homeroom teachers started the day. This was immediately followed by classroom presentations. During the sessions, subject teachers described their classes and methodologies, while taking questions from parents. Following lunch, there were individual meetings between parents and teachers.

Late Friday, the parent, teacher, and staff reception was conducted in the Dining Hall, ending with a speech from President Townsend. The crowd then transitioned to the outside entrance of the school’s academic building to attend the Harvest Festival hosted by the Resident Advisor staff. Each house tended its own station, offering a traditional Japanese or American food or beverage including oden, hot chocolate, and s’mores. There was even a food truck providing delicious offerings for those in attendance while the crowd enjoyed the wonderfully carved pumpkins on display. Parents had additional opportunities to meet with the Resident Advisors and faculty throughout the day on Saturday. By that evening, Parents’ Weekend successfully concluded.
