Where is the Sunshine?

I love, love, LOVE sunshine! It seemed like we were never going to see the sunshine this year with our rainy spring. With the changing of seasons, I am reminded of God’s creative genius. I’m also reminded of the attributes of God. He’s an amazing Creator; He’s purposeful with a well-crafted plan; He’s perfect—right down to the last little detail of creation and purpose; and He did it all for you and for me!

It is impossible for us to understand the love of God. We can only get glimpses of it.

Spring gives me a great glimpse of God’s love, as we see the beauty of life brought back to what was once dead. As the trees begin to bud, the grass turns from brown to green, and little flowers begin to pop up! We see that God gives new life; He gives life to what was once dead.

We were born in sin/death (spiritual death), but God desires to give us life. John 3:5-7 tells us this: “Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.”

When this process takes place in our lives, it’s like the “spring time” of life. Real life begins—life afresh and new! Have you been born again? It could be the missing piece of the puzzle in your life—the thing that seems to be missing but you just can’t put your finger on it. If you would like to know more about this new life, you can always find someone at Outreach that can help give meaning to the term “born again” and what God intended for us to have—real living! We are here for you and your family. We pray you continue to enjoy your summer break and encourage you to MAKE MEMORIES with your family this summer!

10 Principles of Educating Children The education of children and youth is the primary responsibility of parents

May Happenings: The last days of the school year are the best!

(Deuteronomy 6:4-9; 11:1821; Psalm 78:1-7; Psalm 127:3; Proverbs 22:6; Malachi 2:13-16; Ephesians 6:4)

The education of children and youth is a 24-hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week process that continues from birth till maturity (Deuteronomy 6:7; 11:19; Proverbs 22:6).

The education of children and youth must have as its primary goals the salvation of and discipleship of the next generation (Psalm 78:6-7; Matthew 23:19-20).

The education of children and youth must be based on God’s Word as absolute truth (Matthew 24-35; Psalm 119).

The education of children and youth must hold Christ as preeminence in all of life (Colossians 2:2; 6-10).

The education of children and youth must not hinder the spiritual and moral development of the next generation (Matthew 18:6; 19:13-14; Mark 10:13-16; Luke 18:1517).

The education of children and youth, if and when delegated to others by parents, must be done by teachers chosen with utmost care to ensure that they all follow these principles (Exodus

A Word from Our Principal...

“Are you watching closely?” the magician asks. You assure yourself that you are. You won’t be fooled this time. You are paying attention. You’re alert. He then waves his wand and utters the magic word: “Abracadabra.” Suddenly, the very thing you just KNEW you would notice has occurred right before your eyes and you missed it—AGAIN! As I have reflected over the past days, weeks, and months, my heart has become so heavy. I see people and families (including myself) running to and fro, chasing after the next great thing. We spend countless hours scrolling on our phones, surfing Netflix or Hulu (insert any streaming service), running from ball games and practices, bouncing from one job to another, flitting from friend to friend and activity to activity, and toggling between 25 different tabs in our browser. We are frenzied, stressed, sick, incapacitated, overwhelmed, and DISTRACTED. Goodness, I know I can’t be the only one that has a difficult time focusing on one task or speaker for more than a few minutes. Some of you have probably already given up on this article because it’s too long to sustain your attention. I promise, I know. I experience it too. But did you ever pause to reflect and ask “why?” Is this normal? Is it ok?

Billy Graham once said, “We are like people under [a] sentence of death, waiting for the date to be set. We sense that something is about to happen. We know that things cannot go on as they are. History has reached an impasse. We are now on a collision course. Something is about to give.” If you pause long enough while observing the events transpiring in the world—even just the events in our country or our city—you will see that things are RAPIDLY changing.

Dots are being connected. I’s are being dotted and t’s are being crossed. As Pastor Jackie says, “The hourglass was turned upside down long ago, but the final grains of sand are swirling.” I feel it so strongly in my spirit that the end is approaching more quickly than ever before. The dominoes have been falling and there are only a few left. Time is truly running out.

Back to that magician. Have you ever watched a documentary on how they do what they do? The magician expertly captures your attention on the “main attraction” while his assistants quietly do the real trick behind the scenes. Your attention is diverted, and just as quickly as you swore you’d never be fooled again, he snaps his fingers and has completed his trick. At first, you’re somewhat affronted. He got the better of you, but you don’t focus on that long enough to think too deeply about it. Your offense dissipates into delight as you realize how “cool” the trick was. You want to know how he did it, but you actually don’t. Once you learn how it’s done and how easily you were manipulated, the “magic” wears off, and you feel like a fool for missing it.

The Bible tells us that we have an enemy who is REALLY GOOD at illusion. He “disguises himself as an angel of light” (2 Corinth. 11:14), he “schemes” (Eph. 6:11), he is a liar and “has nothing to do with truth” (John 8:44), and he uses Scripture against you (Matthew 4:6). He is an EXPERT at diverting your attention to other things and twisting Scripture to make you comfortable with it. All the while, he is behind the scenes accomplishing the very trick he will use to trip you up—the one you swore you’d never fall for! Matthew 24:24 says, “For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, THE VERY ELECT.” Now remember how easily you are distracted and flit from one thing to another. He is the current “ruler” of this world (2 Corinth. 4:4). His master “trick” is to disrupt your focus so much that you won’t see what is happening RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU until it’s too late. Guess what? At that point, you won’t be delighted. You won’t think the trick is “cool.” You will be devastated because you were “seeing but never perceiving and ever hearing but never understanding” (Mark 4:12). In that moment, you will merely see all that was lost while playing his game.

I challenge you (and myself) to stop and ask what you are pursuing. Does it have eternal value? Does it bring God glory? Are you following the trends set by the world about what is popular and important? Do your children need gratification or salvation? Something is about to happen. Things cannot go on as they are. We’ve reached an impasse.

We’re are on a collision course. Something’s about to give. Are you watching closely? Are you, your family, your children ready? Abracadabra.

• How You Can Help OCE Stay Strong…

Small businesses/ministries have taken a financial hit through this COVID crisis in our nation. Thus far, OCE is managing, but it has not been easy. Many of you have already done much to contribute to our financial, physical, and spiritual health. There is much more to be done. We can all make it through this season together.

Here are some things you can do to keep OCE strong: • Continue to stay current on your tuition payments • Help by donating items that we use a lot: disinfectant wipes, Kleenex, disinfectant sprays, snack items, toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning soaps, hand sanitizer, and hand soap.

• Mention OCE, its families, students, and staff daily in your prayers • Do you own your own business or know someone who does?

Tell them about OCE! We need funding from businesses or individuals who can give substantially. Direct them to our finance department.

• WOM: Word of Mouth. Brag on OCE to your friends, neighbors, church family, etc. You are our best form of advertisement! Talk, talk, talk! We need your help to fill every seat!
