March Winds Mark 4:39-41 ESV And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” What a mighty God we serve—a God who can speak to the wind and it must obey! Did you know this verse, written thousands of years ago, gives us hope in the 21st century? The Bible tells us that this God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. What He did on the sea of Galilee, He can do in your life today. When it seems that Jesus is asleep or far off and does not see or know what is going on in your life, or it seems He doesn’t care, I remind you that He knows and He cares. The story tells us that Jesus was asleep in the boat, and the disciples woke Him and said “Teacher, don’t you care we are about to perish?” Have you ever asked Jesus that question, “Don’t you care?” What was Jesus’ response? First, He took care of the issue: He spoke to the

10 Principals of Educating Children The education of children and youth is the primary responsibility of parents (Deuteronomy 6:4-9; 11:1821; Psalm 78:1-7; Psalm 127:3; Proverbs 22:6; Malachi 2:13-16; Ephesians 6:4) The education of children and youth is a 24-hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week process that continues from birth until maturity. (Deuteronomy 6:7; 11:19; Proverbs 22:6) The education of children and youth must have as its primary goals the salvation of and discipleship of the next generation. (Psalm 78:6-7; Matthew 23:19-20) The education of children and youth must be based on God’s Word as absolute Truth. (Matthew 24-35; Psalm 119) The education of children and youth must hold Christ as preeminence in all areas of life. (Colossians 2:2; 6-10) The education of children and youth must not hinder the spiritual and moral development of the next generation. (Matthew 18:6; 19:13-14; Mark 10:13-16; Luke 18:1517) The education of children and youth, if and when delegated to others by parents, must be done by teachers chosen with utmost care to ensure that they follow these principles. (Exodus 18:21; I Samuel 1:27-28; 3:1-10) The education of children and youth results in the formation of a belief system or worldview that will be patterned after the belief system or worldview of the person’s teachers. (Luke 6:40) The education of children and youth must lead to true wisdom by connecting all knowledge to a biblical worldview frame of reference. (Romans 1:20; Psalm 19:1; Proverbs 4:5,7; 3:19; 9:10; Psalms 104:24; 136:5; Jeremiah 10:12; Romans 11:30; Luke 11:52; Colossians 2:3; 1 Corinthians 8:1; 13:8; Romans 1:28) 10.The education of children and youth must have a view of the future that includes the eternal perspective. (Colossians 3:1-2; Matthew 6:19-20; 2 Timothy 4:6-8; Acts 20:24; Hebrews 11:13; Colossians 3:23-24) (Kingdom Education; God’s Plan For Educating Future Generations, Schultz, Glen, 1998)

wind. He told the wind to be quiet! Those things in your life that are causing noise, distractions, or fear, call on Jesus. He can handle it; He can bring peace and calm in the midst of a raging life storm. Second, Jesus asked them a question: “Why are you afraid?” You would think that after watching Him work miracle after miracle, they would trust without fear— especially with Him in the boat with them. Just like the Apostles, as we get our eyes on our circumstances, it becomes easy to fear. We must do as they did: run to Jesus, because the storm is about to overtake us. As we grow, we will learn to ride the storm out; we will remember that Jesus is in this boat of life with us. Third, Jesus asked another question: “Do you still have no faith?” What did he mean, “Do you still have no faith?” By this time, the Disciples have been with Him for at least a year, and they had seen Him do many miracles—like really BIG miracles: healing lepers, raising the dead, feed 5,000 with two loaves of bread and two fish. How many times have we heard people say, “If I saw a real miracle, I would believe”? I guess the Disciples disregarded that theory. Again, in those fretful, despairing, seemingly-impossible times, our faith becomes weak. The good news is that the more times you face these trials, and God brings you through, the greater your faith will become. Fourth, we see here that the Disciples were very human, and humans struggle with the spiritual things of life. We try to comprehend the spiritual in the flesh (the human mind), and it is tough. This faith walk takes a lot of practice and a lot of trial and error. I encourage you to lean into Jesus. You know, one of our biggest walks of faith can be trusting God with our children. We wrestle with all kinds of important decisions like, “Should I send my child to Christian school?” This takes great faith for most parents. It takes great financial sacrifice and faith that God will make a way. It takes faith to go against the grain of our culture. God will increase your faith—just trust Him! God Bless, Mrs. Taylor (Administrator)

It is so encouraging and helpful when we get your feedback! Drop us an email or message us on Facebook, or just send us an old-fashioned, hand-written note! We want to hear from you!

Bedtime Memory Verses I have always longed for my children to memorize Scripture, but I’ve abandoned nearly every memory system I’ve tried. Then, a couple of years ago, I chose a psalm, printed it out, and taped it to one of my children’s bed frames. Every night, I called the kids into that bedroom, and we recited the entire passage together before prayers. They took to the routine and could eventually recite the psalm from memory. No matter how exhausted I was, I was reminded by the paper taped to the bed frame that it was time to read this psalm. Once we all had it memorized, we put up another Scripture passage. —Tammie Haveman

Cristo Me Ama Learn how to sing “Jesus Loves Me” in English and Spanish. Listen to the children singing, following along with these lyrics: Cristo me ama Cristo me ama, bien lo sé, Su Palabra me hace ver. Que los niños son de aquel, Quien es nuestro amigo fiel. Chorus: Si, Cristo me ama; Si, Cristo me ama; Si, Cristo me ama; La Biblia dice asi.

Teaching our children to love Jesus! We work on character every day with the boys and girls at OCE. Most children lack in the natural ability to be kind, share with, and love one another. We must help them with these character traits. God is always at work in our lives and the lives of our children. Hebrews 12:10 says that God disciplines (trains) us so that we may share His holiness. Holiness: To be holy means to be separated from the world of sin, darkness, and the devil by faith in the Lord Jesus (Acts 26:18), to be God's chosen ones). I believe our boys and girls are chosen by God, set apart for greatness— not greatness as the world defines it, but greatness in the eye of Jesus. The best way to ensure this comes to fruition in their lives is to cultivate their character to be more like Jesus. That takes a lot of practice. That is what we are doing—practicing to be like JESUS!

How You Can Help OCE Stay Strong… Small businesses/ministries have taken a financial hit throught this COVID crisis in our nation. Thus far, OCE is managing, but it has not been easy. Many of you have already done much to contribute to our financial health, our physical health, and our spiritual health—THANK YOU! There is much more to be done, until we all make it through this season together. Here are some things you can do to keep OCE strong: • Continue to stay current on your tuition payments. • Help by donating items that we use a lot (disinfectant wipes, Kleenex, disinfectant sprays, snack items, toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning soaps, hand sanitizer, hand soap). • Mention OCE, its families, students, and staff daily in your prayers. • Do you own your own business or know someone who does? Tell them about OCE! We need funding from businesses or individuals who can give substantially. Direct them to our finance department. • WOM: Word of Mouth. “Talk up” OCE to your friends, neighbors, church family, etc. You are our best form of advertisement! Talk, talk, talk! We need your help to flll every seat!
