Jessica Bullard, Ed.S.

Jessica Bullard has served as principal of Outreach Christian Education since 2013. She is a 2005 graduate of Outreach Christian Education, and attended Park University on a full scholarship, transferring to Regent University where she received her B.A. degree in Government. After graduation, she entered into a career with a well-known financial institution. She climbed the corporate hierarchy for five years, until she was in line to become a regional president. However, her heart was being drawn back to OCE. She wanted to invest in the OCE students the same way others invested in her.

In 2013, she left her position and began working at OCE. She earned her Masters of Education from Regent University in May of 2017, and will complete her Ph.D. in Education from Regent University in 2021.

Jessica her junior year with three of her classmates, two of whom also serve full time at OCE.

As principal, she is in charge of both the elementary and high school, guiding teachers and coordinating school activities. Presently, she is also serving in several other capacities as we await funds to fill those positions.

Dedicated Staff The faculty and staff at OCE have always been dedicated individuals who were willing to give of themselves beyond their job descriptions, assume whatever additional responsibilities were needed to meet the needs of students, and ensure the school functioned efficiently. Our employees understand that working at OCE is more than a job – it is a ministry of service. Also, our employees are paid 25% - 40 % less than their counterparts in local school systems, and are without benefits such as health insurance or paid vacation.

At the present time, OCE employs five full-time teachers, three part-time teachers, and one full -time administrator. In order to meet students’ needs, the principal and teachers assume additional roles, sometimes employing administration and staff to monitor one group of students while instructing another group. Also, each staff member currently serves in multiple capacities to offset our staff deficit.

A faculty of six full-time teachers, six part-time teachers, and two paraprofessionals, along with a support staff including an athletic director, a club director and one full-time or two part-time administrative assistant(s), would allow us to serve our current enrollment fully. * For a list of needs and opportunities to give, see page 4

Personal Leadership Kathy Taylor Kathy Taylor is a co-founder and the administrator of Outreach Christian Education (OCE). Kathy holds a Liberal Arts degree from Liberty University and has 40 years of experience in Christian education. When OCE opened its doors in 1979, Kathy, too, began her life-long career as an educator. She has served as pre-school teacher, kindergarten teacher, school secretary/ ministry bookkeeper, and assistant administrator. From 2008 until the present, she has served as the administrator of OCE. This includes the daycare centers and pre-schools, as well as the elementary school and high school.

Kathy felt the great need for an educational institution that appreciated the uniqueness and individuality of each child and also desired such a school for her own children. All three of her children are graduates of OCE. As the vision continues and grows, she is also privileged to see her grandchildren enjoy the great benefits OCE has to offer.

Dear Friend, My late husband and I together dreamed of a school where families could bring their children, knowing they were cared for, believed in and encouraged to be any and all that God has purposed them to be. We questioned many times why God would call two under-educated people to lead an academic facility.

God showed us quickly that He needed ministers to open up the church house and assist parents in the directive from Scripture in Deuteronomy 11:19, “Teach them to your children, speaking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” In other words, the Word of God must be taught to our children from the time they wake up until the time they lay to rest at night. For over 40 years we have assisted parents in doing just that. Outreach Christian Education has graduated approximately 90 students, and the majority of these students serve God in their local churches, on the job, and by leading their families.

We are entering our 42nd year of ministry, and my, how things have changed!

I feel more than ever Christian education must take the lead in instructing our children. Statistically we are losing a generation of children to a carnal worldview.

Outreach Christian Education will continue with the help of friends of this ministry, local church and Christian businessmen and women, to educate children in reading, writing and arithmetic from a Biblical worldview. They are the hope of our future.

Every child deserves a quality education that is not contingent upon their ability to pay tuition, offers flexible options to meet his or her unique needs, and provides a safe and nurturing learning atmosphere.

Nick Van Tol My name is Nick Van Tol and I wanted to take a few moments to describe what Outreach Christian means to me. I started at Outreach in the early eighties as an infant and attended school through the second grade. The Christian foundation and values that Outreach instilled in me have played a big part in my life. The strong academic skills that I learned while at Outreach became very evident when I transitioned to the public-school system and had to find ways to continually challenge myself to the same level.

The teachers and staff care deeply for each child that they come into contact with and treat them as if they’re a member of their own family. Outreach Christian is a vital member of the Kansas City educational and Christian Community.

OCE offers an alternative which places a greater focus on reading, writing, and arithmetic, and analyzes multiple viewpoints while emphasizing a Biblical worldview.

We serve families from all parts of Kansas City and the surrounding communities.

Hispanic, African-American, Asian, Caucasian, and other ethnicities comprise the OCE school family. We serve students from birth through pre -school in our Early Academic Department, and kindergarten through 12th in our elementary through high school. We count it an honor to serve all the children in our OCE families.

Sarah Hylton I attended Outreach for 5 years. The strong Biblical teaching (from teachers and the curriculum), social skills, and the academic skills I learned are with me to this day. After leaving Outreach, I went on to excel in many areas and was always at the top of my class in academics. I have many fond memories from Outreach and still have strong relationships with other alumni, even after 24 years. If I lived close enough, I would definitely want to send my own children to Outreach so they could be in the same Godly atmosphere I was blessed to be in as a kid.

Financial Need A large percentage of Outreach Families receive tuition assistance most in the form of reduced tuition. Because of our commitment to partner with families who desire quality Christian education for their children, it is imperative that we find others to believe in and support the vision of Outreach Christian Education.

Outreach Is About Changing Futures!

The message and purpose of OCE has always been to love and nurture the lost, broken, and disenfranchised. *Rachel and Leah were removed from their home because of parental substance abuse and severe neglect. They were placed in the foster care system and were struggling emotionally, academically, and behaviourally. A Godly family took them in and loved them as their own. They quickly integrated them into their home and their lives.

As they continued to struggle in school, the *Smiths recognized the need for a change in the girls’ school environment, which seemed to be a breeding ground for destruction.

Fortunately, an OCE parent in their church offered them a ray of hope. At OCE, they were met with open arms. An ember of hope began to burn unlike anything they had ever experienced. This school, Outreach Christian Education, accepted them where they were academically, emotionally, and spiritually, and helped them progress. This family, who has already made sacrifices to welcome these sweet girls into their home, now has the difficult task of providing a private school education for both girls.

How could this family, with a budget that is already stressed, now assume, not one, but two, school tuition payments?

OCE will never reject a student in need. How could we? Together, the family and the school began praying for wisdom and strength to meet these broken girls where they were. Working together through many ups and downs, we quickly saw tremendous progress coming from these precious young ladies. They have assimilated into the OCE Bulldogs’ volleyball and basketball teams, progressed almost three years academically, and are making tremendous strides spiritually and emotionally. Additionally, they have exhibited increased confidence and leadership abilities with their peers and others. The story of Rachel and Leah is still being written, but now has the hope of a triumphant ending.

Unfortunately, this story is not unique, but rather is becoming more ubiquitous in our society. Nevertheless, there is hope! There is hope in the existence of good people who desire to open their homes to girls like Rachel and Leah.

We are so thankful that we were chosen to partner with this family and to play an amazing part in the story of these two sisters. We pray that God continues to use us as a partner in education and ministry to this family and many others like them!
