For God So Loved The World How much did God love the world He created? So much that He sent His Son, and if we believe in that Son, He would also give us eternal life! Who loves someone so much that you would give your greatest, most prized possession—your child—in order to save that person? That is a question that really boggles our minds. The love of God is greater than our understanding. In the time in which we live, love has become many things. It (love) in my opinion, has become very self-serving—the very opposite of what God demonstrates here. His is a selfless love. God’s love says, “They can’t pay their debt, so I will pay it. They can never become sinless, and I cannot have communion with sin, so we have a problem.” God solves the problem by giving His best, His all, for us WHILE WE WERE IN OUR SINFUL STATE. Most of us can only love in response (with great struggle usually) to being loved first. But God loved us when we were at our worst, when we denied Him, had no use or time for Him. We do not do so well at loving people who do not love us in return. We do not do so well loving people who hate us, ridicule us, and disgrace our name, but God does. He is the LOVE Expert. As we raise our children, and we think of how much we want to give them, most of us go out of our way to make sure they have it much better than we did. In reality, what children want most is the unconditional, consistent love of their parents. So, what does LOVE really look like? We can find this answer from—Who else?—but the LOVE Expert Himself. Here is what we find in God’s Word concerning LOVE: 1) Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love (1 John 4:8). First things first, to love truly well, we must have the love of God in us. Our own ability to love is limited. Children, however, are the closest embodiment of the true love of God. They have not had enough time to be corrupted by this world or to become disillusioned or “jaded.” They love unconditionally, freely, and without fear. We should take note!
