PROJECT 01: NARRATIVE PROGRAMMING – OFF-GRID HABITAT

Programming: In a group, students study, explore and invent a suitable Off- Grid Home that includes a subsystem that makes the space livable. Students are required to propose a conceptual design with key featuresofself-sustainingandenergyefficiencythatcan be deployable anywhere around the world which is then tobedevelopedintoa“narrativeprogram”.Fundamental to the development of the brief is an understanding of the relationship between the conceptual approach that youhavebeguntoexploreandthefunctionalpurposeof your proposals. A compilation of research outcomes, findings, and analysis, in the form of 2D (partial 3D) ‘Narrative Programming’ that shows activity, priority, flexibility, system, approach, process, color, texture, material, style, concept, identity, and elements that will beusedontheoveralldesignapproach.

The current Malaysian political climate is marked by limited resources and challenges in maintaining a healthy and sustainable environment. The community facesalackofaccesstocleanwater,limitedhealthcare services, and few educational and recreational opportunities for youth. This semester, we will be looking at 5 themes to further investigate issues of concerninournation.

Each group will pick one of the following THEME below for your research and analysis:

PROJECT 02: SITE MODEL

BUILDING/SITE MODEL (group)

- Students are required to build a physical model of the chosensiteusingasuitablescaleandsturdymaterial.The roof must be openable to allow the interior spaces to be appreciated.

SPATIAL INTERIOR MODEL (individual)

-Each student will be required to produce a representativemodeloftheirbestinteriorareas(subject toapprovalbytutors)atascaleof1:50.Themodelmust showcase the materials, concept, and idea clearly while demonstratinggoodworkmanship.

Site: REKASCAPE, Cyberjaya

REKASCAPE Cyberjaya is a 10-acre mixed-use development located in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. The site is designed with sustainability and eco-friendliness in mind, and its layout is optimized to maximize energy efficiency and minimize the development's environmental impact. REKASCAPE Cyberjaya has a range of office spaces for different needs, from small offices to co-working spaces. They are ecofriendly with features such as natural lighting and energy-efficient systems. The buildings are placed strategically for easy access to transportation and amenities. There are also recreational spaces such as parks and sports facilities for workers to take breaks and recharge. The working spaces aim to provide a sustainable environment that promotes collaboration, creativity, and innovation while consideringtheneedsoftheworkersandthecommunity.

Based on Narrative Programming and the focused system/activity designed in Project 1, students are required to design appealing workspaces within a market hall,promotingproductivity,collaboration,andcreativity while celebrating the community's diversity and unique senseofplace.Thegoalistoboostemployeeengagement and vitality through the creative use of space, consideringthepowerofcultureanddigitaltechnologies. Human interaction and collaboration remain essential, butthedesignshouldalsoexplorethelatesttechnologies andmaterialsforadynamicworkenvironmentthatsparks innovationwithinthemarkethallsetting.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Young people lack a comprehensive understanding of herbs and their potential benefits for overall health, resulting in a gap between their understanding and utilization of herbs. This knowledge gap prevents young people from fully embracingthepowerofherbsandintegratingthemintotheirdailylives.

The Herbscape Hub acts as an important bridge connecting young people to the rich world of herbal medicine, enabling them to explore herbal practices and incorporate them into their wellness habits. By offering a series of workshops and resourcestailoredtotheirinterestsandneeds,HerbscapeHubfillsknowledgegaps andinspiresyoungpeopletoembracethebenefitsofherbalremedies.
