PROJECT 01: BUILDING [NOOKS]: SITE EXPLORATIVE

THE SITE IS BOTH A LIMITATION TO DESIGN AND A PROVIDER OF INCREDIBLE OPPORTUNITIES. EVERY SITE HAS ITS OWN PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES THAT ARE COMPRISED OF MEMORIES AND TRACES OF ITS SURROUNDINGS THE NEIGHBORING BUILDINGS, MATERIALS USED, FORM, HEIGHT AND OTHER PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTIC WILL AFFECT AND INFLUENCE THE DESIGN LATER IN SHORT, TO UNDERSTAND OUR SITE IS TO FIND 'CLUES' THAT INFORM OUR DESIGN IDEAS ALL THESE MUST BE REFLECTED IN OUR STUDY WHICH WILL BE IN GROUPS

SITE: THE TREE HOUSES, TAMARIND SQUARE

ADDRESS: TAMARIND BLDG RD, CYBERJAYA, 63000 CYBERJAYA, SELANGOR

TAMARIND SQUARE IS LOCATED IN CYBERJAYA, THE IT CITY OF MALAYSIA, ON A 14.5-ACRE SITE. IT CONSISTS OF A CENTER WITH 72 NUMBERS OF 3-STOREY SHOP OFFICES THAT ARE ARRANGED AROUND TWO GARDENS IN ADDITION, THERE ARE 30 NUMBERS OF SEMI-D SHOP OFFICES (4-5 STOREYS) WITH INTIMATE GARDENS ON THE SIDES AND ON THE ROOF A STRIKING FEATURE OF THE RETAIL CENTER IS THE TREE HOUSES - STRUCTURES THAT ARE LIKE PINNACLES, WRAPPED BY CREEPERS, AND CONNECTED BY A SERIES OF STAIRS - IDEAL FOR CHILDREN TO EXPLORE AND STUDENTS TO HANG OUT. THESE TREEHOUSES WILL BE USED AS SMALL SHOPS, READING ROOMS, YOGA ZONES, MEETING ROOMS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES.

CONCEPTUALIZE PLACEMAKING NARRATIVE

“PLACEMAKING IS THE DESIGN ACTIVITY THAT USES COMMUNICATIONS TO CREATE EXPERIENCES THAT CONNECT PEOPLE TO PLACE IDENTITY DESIGN CREATES A STRONG SENSE OF “YOU ARE HERE” BY DIFFERENTIATING A PLACE OR SPACE FROM OTHERS THROUGH THE USE OF GRAPHIC ELEMENTS SUCH AS TYPE, COLOR, PATTERN, VIDEO AND MOTION.”

IN THIS PHASE OF PROJECT 2, IT IS THE PROCESS OF CREATING QUALITY PLACES THAT PEOPLE WANT TO WORK, PLAY, AND LEARN IN, THAT REQUIRES ENGAGING AND EMPOWERING PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROCESS THIS EMBRACES A WIDE RANGE OF PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES THAT YOU CAN THINK OF WITH THE BENEFITTING THE BUSINESSES AROUND IT TO GROW AND THE COMMUNITY WELL-BEING THE LISTS OF POTENTIAL PLACEMAKING IDEAS BELOW IS A START TO ROLL THE BALLS IN THINKING IDEAS OF POTENTIAL SPACES & ITS DESIGN BRIEF. THESE ARE OPTIONS OF CATEGORIES THAT YOU CAN LOOK INTO BY MAKING LOTS OF PRECEDENT STUDIES TO UNDERSTAND THE POTENTIAL OF IT ON THE SITE ALLOCATED.

CONCEPTUAL SPACE NARRATIVE

SHOWS RICH VISUAL SPACE PROGRAMMING OF THE POTENTIAL PLACEMAKING SPACE; ACTIVITY, CHARACTERISTICS, AND ITS ELEMENTS IN NARRATIVE/STORIES MANNER WE ARE REQUIRED TO COME OUT SEVERAL KEYWORDS MIN 3 AND MAX 5 THAT WILL HELP TO GUIDE IN VISUALIZING THE CONCEPTUAL ELEMENTS.

CONCEPTUAL MODEL

FROM OUR RESEARCH ON SPACE NARRATIVE, WE ARE REQUIRED TO COME OUT A 3-DIMENSIONAL MODEL THAT NARRATE THE DESIGN FOR THE USERS TO EXPERIENCE THE SPACE PROGRAMMING. THE MODEL CAN BE MADE FROM RECYCLABLE MATERIALS AND INSTILLED THE CONCEPTUAL ELEMENTS.

FINAL PROJECT: [RE-THINK] PLACEMAKING DESIGN

“REJUVENATING PUBLIC SPACES WITH PLACEMAKING - PLACEMAKING IS A RELATIVELY NEW CONCEPT IN MALAYSIA, BUT IT IS BECOMING AN INCREASINGLY INTEGRAL PART OF THE COMMUNITY AND THE GOVERNMENT IS PUSHING FOR THE CONCEPT TO BE PART OF URBAN REDEVELOPMENT ”

IN THIS FINAL PHASE, WE ARE REQUIRED TO DESIGN AND BUILD THE INTERIOR FROM THE GIVEN SITE; TREEHOUSES, TAMARIND SQUARE. DESIGN CONCEPTUAL & SPACE PROGRAMMING IS REQUISITE TO INHERIT FROM PROJECT 02 KEYWORDS AS APPROACH AND SUBJECT MATTER EXECUTION MUST BE SHOWN IN DETAIL DESIGN PROCESS & PROGRAMMING VIA VARIOUS MEDIUMS OF ART CREATIVELY IN CONTINUOUS DRAWINGS, 3D DIGITAL MODELING, PHOTOGRAPHY, EXPERIMENTATION, NARRATION AND IN-DEPTH RESEARCH OF THE SELECTED IDEA TITLE THE SPATIAL PROGRAMMING, AMENITIES AND FUNCTION SHALL CORRELATE WITH THE REQUIREMENT OF THE SPACE PROGRAMMING AND PRODUCING THE INSPIRATION IDEAS DERIVED FROM THE CONCEPTUAL MODEL ASSIGNMENT INTO THE SPACE. THE ART OF IMAGINING THE SPACES TO CREATE A NARRATIVE EXPERIENCE FOR THE VISITORS IS THE KEY.

REFLECTION

THIS SEMESTER IS A BUSY BUT FULFILLING SEMESTER. MANY UNCERTAIN FACTORS SLOWED DOWN MY PROGRESS IN ASSIGNMENTS, BUT I AM VERY GLAD THAT I FINALLY MANAGE TO COMPLETE THIS ASSIGNMENT SUCCESSFULLY, ALTHOUGH THERE IS STILL A LOT THAT I CAN IMPROVE. BESIDES, THROUGH THIS MODULE, I HAVE MORE EXPLORATION AND KNOWLEDGE IN SKETCHUP AND ENSCAPE, WHICH HELPS ME TO ACHIEVE THE DESIRED EFFECT THAT I WANT TO PRESENT IN MY SPACE AT THE SAME TIME, I ALSO LEARNED DIFFERENT SOFTWARE TECHNIQUES AND IDEAS FROM MY PEERS WHICH ALLOW ME TO RETHINK MY OWN DESIGN AND CAME OUT WITH NEW IDEAS IN ORDER TO HAVE A BETTER SPACE PROGRAMMING

IN ADDITION, THIS IS OUR FIRST PHYSICAL FINAL DESIGN REVIEW AND WE'RE ALL EXCITED BUT SCARED AT THE SAME TIME AS IT WAS OUR VERY FIRST TIME, MOST OF US FACED SOME PROBLEMS IN PRINTING BUT LUCKILY EVERYTHING WENT WELL ON THE DAY AFTER THE PRESENTATION TO THE EXTERNAL REVIEWER, I KNOW THAT THERE IS STILL A LONG WAY TO GO IN IMPROVING MY PRESENTATION SKILLS AND LANGUAGE ORGANIZATION HOPE TO SEE MY IMPROVEMENT IN THE UPCOMING MODULES!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, I ALSO VERY MUCH APPRECIATE MS AIDA, MS FATIMAH AND MS NAADIYA FOR THEIR GUIDANCE AND OPINIONS IN THIS MODULE, WHICH HAS GREATLY HELPED ME IN MY EXPLORATION AND IMPROVEMENT, AND I HAVE LEARNED A LOT FROM IT
