Community Patrons

With the New Year before us hope comes into each of our lives for a return to what our lives once were and will be again. We have a new realization of the importance of family and friends and how much the time we spend with them really means. We have a new appreciation for all the things our community has offered year after year in the form of events, art, theater, gatherings, festivals, sports and bazaars. Really anything that brings us together. Broome County has been blessed with a score of all these things every year to which our businesses have played a large role with their sponsorship. Our hats off and thanks to the many businesses in our community for all they have shared.

This New Year brings us hope. One day..... We will once again join friends and families at bazaars like St. Anthony's in Endicott and St. Mary's in Binghamton. We will once again attend the Broome County Fair in Whitney Point, the Spiedie Fest & Balloon Rally at Otsiningo and the Dick's Open at En-Joie. We will once again attend one of the many functions at Ross Park for a day at the zoo. We will once again listen to one of the many great bands here at Music Festivals like Jazz Fest and Blues on The Bridge, or at any of the great restaurants and bars here that routinely have live entertainment like The Beef, Irish Kevins, The Grapevine and Moxy's.

And yes we will once again be at the Forum for shows like Broadway in Binghamton or at the Tri Cities Opera or the Arena for so many different performances, shows and spectacular events. But most importantly, we will once again be able to freely enjoy the company of our family and friends. We will be able to gather freely for Holidays and Celebrations. We will be able to visit our family at Nursing Homes. We will ....go thru this life together. To all our families and friends, God Bless and see you soon!

Since starting our magazine 3 years ago we have had a great time writing about some truly amazing people, groups, businesses and events that make up the towns we live in while also sharing a bit of our communities history and things to come. As our intro says .....

Emily Violet

Bartender at Sliderz on the Vestal Parkway Say hello to Emily Violet our bartender for July. Emily grew up for the most part in Apalachin where one of her many interests was in dance. She has trained in many forms such as ballet, lyrical and jazz. After graduating from Vestal she attended SUNY Binghamton and Cazanovia studying fashion merchandising & design as well as law receiving her bachelors.

But the classroom isn’t the only place you may have seen her. Emily was on the rowing (crew) team in college so you might have seen her on the Susquehanna River.

You may have also seen her photos as she modeled for a period. Or you might have seen her under the hood of a car. Emily’s father owned an auto shop when she was growing up so one of her favorite hobbies is working on cars from simple tune ups to rebuilding engines.

Vocationally Emily’s background lends her to so many avenues. She loves bartending as it gives her the opportunity to meet new people. She also loves her work at a law firm here in town as that also gives her an opportunity to help people.

But of course there’s more. Emily also buys houses to flip and rental properties.

And she puts to good use the talent she learned from her father - buying, rebuilding and selling a few classic cars.

Emily is another great example of one of our many neighbors who help make the area a great place to live.

But don’t take our word for it.

, s r o b h g i e N h t a e Your H a r o N & e v e t S Meet your neighbors, Steve and Nora Heath, owners of the Clinton Street Cafe and two of the nicest people you'd ever meet. Celebrating their 20 years on Clinton Street you'll find a lot of guests who'll tell you the same.

Neither Steve nor Nora are strangers to the restaurant business or hard work for that matter.

Prior to opening their own place they both had a long history working in a few restaurants here with some pretty long hours. In fact when they first opened the Clinton Street Cafe they were both working 2-3 other restaurant jobs to keep things going while business grew and the street went thru repairs. They recall the days when Philadelphia Sales and Olums were still on the street but the one thing that hasn't changed is the great customers they have. They have made so many good friends that they even arrange their time off so as to go on vacations with them.

Clinton Street is seeing quite a few new businesses opening and we're proud to say Steve and Nora are part of the reason why a lot of people like to come on down. Thanks Steve and Nora for helping make this a great place to live!

With literally thousands of events in Broome County every year there's always something to do. Here are just a few shots of some of our friends and neighbors at events of years past.

Margaret O'Brien touched the hearts of audiences everywhere with her roles

in movies like Little Women, Jane Eyre, Journey for Margaret and Our Vines Have Tender Grapes with Edward G. Robinson. Amazingly Margaret started her film career at just 4 years old in Babes on Broadway. Her talent and warmth on screen soon led to a Juvenille Academy Award Oscar in 1944 with probably her most famous role as the unforgettable little Tutti Smith in Meet Me In St. Louis with Judy Garland (pictured here). Margaret won us all over as she brought America back to a simpler time of childhood events like dressing up for Halloween as well as family adventures and activities that make up our lives in such specal way. From the talent of this remarkable child we got to witness so much of what is truly important in life.

From those early days till now Margaret's career has continued on screen and air with tv roles on popular shows like Perry Mason, Combat, Adam 12 and Murder She Wrote to her most recent movie roles starring in features like This Is Our Christmas, which was released in 2018. With such an incredibe career spanning decades Margaret is truly a national treasure. If ever you are on Hollywood & Vine be sure to stop by and see her Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And to bring a little Holiday into any day, anywhere, just put a little time aside and give another watch to Meet Me In St Louis.
