Pictured here... A Christmas Gift of Hershey Chocolate Bars being delivered to US soldiers of the Battle of the Bulge. Our GIs lived on pre-packaged ‘C’ and ‘K’ rations but the most prized items for every soldier were these chocolate bars. By 1945 Hershey estimated they had distributed over three billion ration bars like these.

The chocolate bars for the GIs were a bit of home, something that brought back memories of their home towns and the holidays just as the music of the days did. In 1943 Bing Crosby released a song which was felt in the hearts of our nation, all our soldiers fighting overseas, and their families here back home. The song "I'll be home for Christmas" was written as a letter from a soldier over seas to his family about all the things he loved at home for Christmas and that he would be there with everyone ...... if only in his dreams.

In the above scene from It's A Wondreful Life, Harry Bailey gives a toast to his big brother George in recognition of how blessed he is to have his family and so many friends. "A toast to my big brother George: The richest man in town."

The toast is followed by all singing Auld Lang Syne, a song written in 1799 and sung for generations giving remembrance to old friends and old times.
