Dear Readers,
2025 is not only the year of celebration of the 15th anniversary of Drishti magazine; it is a celebration of the achievements and generosity of our community. The July/August issue is dedicated to the young change makers. Telling stories about the youth and young professionals has been an invigorating privilege for the past 15 years; they are intelligent, generous, passionate, and outstanding. Isn’t this great? As a community connector, I’ve gone deep to learn much more about them. I have loved it since I started the Drishti Magazine in 2010, and I consider it an honor to share so many remarkable stories of outstanding youth and young professionals with you. On our cover is Ronit Jassal, a second-generation entrepreneur who carries forward the legacy of Jassal Signs. Ronit spoke candidly about his entrepreneurial journey—one that began when he was still in high school. “I believe that taking risks early in life can yield greater rewards,” Ronit says. “When you’re young, you have less to lose and more time to recover. That’s when you should dream big and dare even bigger.”
Moreover, we have filled this issue with intimate interviews with entrepreneurs, artists, digital creators, stylists, sportspeople, youth leaders, young professionals, and their perspectives who share their stories, motivations, and the journeys that led them to the realms of entrepreneurship, creativity, and generosity. Our readers always look forward to the latest issue to read stories of outstanding individuals.
You will enjoy reading regular articles on a variety of topics, including current affairs, health and wellness, beauty, fashion, auto, travel, gadgets, and Hollywood, as well as not-to-be-missed horoscopes by Captain. Sukhbir Mangat.
I am so proud of what we’ve been able to achieve throughout the years, and we will continue featuring thought-provoking content for many years to come! And, remember, if you Think Big, Work Hard, and believe in yourself, Anything is Possible!

Ph.D. MD FRCPC
Medical Lead, South Asian Health Institute, Fraser Health (www.fraserhealth.ca), Clinical Professor, Faculty of Medicine. ˜e University of British Columbia, Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Health Sciences, Simon Fraser University; Distinguished Visiting Professor, Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA), Executive Member: Global Association of Physicians of India Origin (www.gapio.in)
We have just come out of a historic global epidemic caused by the COVID-19 virus. ˜e catastrophic impact is tremendous, and thanks to the commitment and contributions of everyone in society, it has come to light. ˜e outcomes were only possible due to awareness and practices around being prepared, following prevention, protection, prayers, and philanthropy. Under broader interventions, vaccination played a critical role in supporting the development of herd immunity. As the acute impact of the epidemic reduces, we must continue to practice the habits developed during this time, especially those related to protection and prevention. Hand washing was one of the key interventions. Vaccination has played a crucial role in preventing many diseases.
It is worthwhile to share current vaccination recommendations, especially for adults. Public health recommendations for children are well established. For adults, these are even more important for immunocompromised patients and those over the age of 75. Vaccination against COVID continues to be recommended for speciÿc populations. Your physician is the best resource for current recommendations and requirements. I do recognize controversies around COVID-19 vaccination, and the purpose of this editorial is not to debate the pros or cons of COVID-19 vaccination or, for that matter, any vaccination. ˜e decision is a personal choice, made in consultation with family and a healthcare provider.
˜is editorial is only for information; the decision to vaccinate is best made through discussion with your physician and public health recommendations. ˜e following are some of the vaccinations recommended by the Centre for Communicable Diseases.
1. RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus): A Common and contagious virus that usually causes cold-like symptoms and general unwellness. However, if it infects the lungs, it can lead to pneumonia. In the elderly population, it can exacerbate existing conditions such as asthma, emphysema, and heart disease. Until 2023, there was no vaccine; now, several varieties are available and are recommended for everyone over the age of 75, as well as the younger population with certain medical conditions.
2. Shingles are caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which is also responsible for chickenpox and is characterized by an excruciating rash. A two-dose shingles vaccine is recommended for those over 50 years of age. It provides lasting and e˛ective protection and may o˛er additional beneÿts. It is recommended whether you have shingles or not.
3. Pneumococcal vaccination o˛ers protection against pneumococcal bacteria and is recommended for individuals aged 50 years or older. Again, it provides long-term, lasting protection, although its e˛ectiveness may not be perfect. ˜ere are many types available, and the information can be confusing; it’s best to discuss the speciÿcs of the vaccine with your physician.
4. Measles-Mumps and Rubella (MMR). Due to childhood vaccinations, these once-prevalent diseases have made a comeback. So, one dose of MMR is being recommended by the CDC for those born a˝er 1957, as before that, everyone got measles as a child.
5. Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap). All adults should receive a Tdap booster every 10 years. Highly contagious respiratory infections with serious complications. ˜ese are e˛ective for a limited period, which is why a booster is needed.
6. In˜uenza (Flu shot) Annual vaccination, as recommended by public health, is highly recommended.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccination uptake has declined, and vaccine fatigue is a genuine concern. For your health, please inform yourself, in consultation with your family, of your immunization status, keep a good record, and in consultation with your physician, decide which vaccine you require.
˜e objective of these columns is to engage, educate, and empower you for your health. You are the most critical person in your health, and the power of self-realization and self-culture should guide you to good health, including vaccination. ˜ese guidelines are for informational purposes only and do not constitute medical advice.

In an era of economic uncertainty, where companies are cutting costs and laying o˜ workers, the story of Richmond Plywood Corporation Limited (Richply), a locally owned & operated co-operative by mostly Punjabis, is creating a positive tale of employment generation, perseverance, self-reliance, and adaptability.
Standing resolute on the banks of the mighty Fraser River in Richmond, BC, this highly successful plywood co-operative is inviting hardworking young Canadians to grow alongside the company.
As a locally run co-operative, it manages a sprawling 26-acre facility that processes around 500,000 cubic meters of wood annually, producing approximately 260 million square feet of various 3/8” sheeting and panels. Although the mill owns various tenures, it sources most of its wood from trusted external suppliers. °e result is a product that meets and exceeds industry standards—worldclass plywood in demand across Canada and beyond.
“Although the mill owns various tenures, it sources most of its wood from trusted external suppliers. The result is a product that meets and exceeds industry standards— world-class plywood in demand across Canada and beyond.”

Richply’s unwavering commitment to quality keeps this demand steady. “Our main competition comes from producers using uncertiÿed wood from South America, China, and Vietnam, which lowers their costs. But we play by the rules—sourcing certiÿed wood and introducing cutting-edge technology to remain cost-e˜ective without cutting corners,” says Bhavjit °andi, Chief Financial O˝cer. “Our distributors know that when it comes from Richply, it’s a superior product.”
In 1956, 300 visionaries invested $5,000 each to purchase land and build a mill that would one day become a hallmark of quality. Today, Richply employs over 400 individuals,
of whom 250 are shareholders. “°e co-op structure sets us apart,” says °andi. “You can start as a non-shareholder employee, work here, buy a share which will make you a co-owner, contribute like an owner, and retire as an employee.” °is ownership model fosters a deep sense of investment—workers aren’t merely punching the clock, but building a lasting legacy, creating a bedrock of stability. Employee turnover is almost unheard of with many serving for up to 50 years. “Ownership also brings rewards beyond pride. Shareholders earn higher wages, generous pensions, proÿt-sharing bonuses, and a voice in the company’s major decisions. All key policies and purchases get approval by a 75 percent shareholder vote at the Annual General Meetings,” says °andi.
°e company’s governance is equally unique. Shareholders elect a seven-member Board of Directors on an annual basis. °ese directors, kept free from operational management roles to ensure approachability, act as the bridge between the workforce and leadership. Each year, the board elects a President and a Vice President among its members. Meanwhile, an Executive Team—comprising the CFO, General Manager, Manager of Log Supply, and VP of Sales and Marketing—oversees dayto-day operations, reporting directly to the President.
Employee success stories are a testament to Richply’s nurturing spirit. Harbinder Athwal’s journey, from a mill worker to President, is an example. He arrived at Richply on his 16th birthday with his uncle, a long-time shareholder, and began working that very day. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, pursued professional certiÿcation in steam engineering, which the company itself funded, and eventually became a shareholder, board member and now President.
°e company o˜ers roles in labor-intensive operations, including millwrights, mechanics,
electricians, steam engineers, forkli˙ operators, and heavy machinery operators. Opportunities are abound on the management side, too. °andi himself is a shining example. Canadian Forest Industries magazine named him Top 20 Under 40 in Canada and Wood Working Network named him Top 40 under 40 in North America.
Richply is boldly stepping into the future, embracing artiÿcial intelligence to enhance e˝ciency and sustainability. °andi secured signiÿcant Federal and Provincial funding for the ÿrst time in its history. With $2.3 million from British Columbia’s Manufacturing Jobs Fund and $6.7 million from Natural Resources Canada’s Investment in Forest Industry Transformation program, the company invested in an ambitious $18.7 million upgrade, bringing in automation and AI tools to remain a leader in the ever-evolving forest products sector. °e company has invested in various projects over the past 10 years, including a new debarker, log conditioning chests, lathe line, and backup boiler in order to remain e˝cient and competitive in the global market.
Richply’s product range covers everything from concrete-grade plywood to decorative panels, using ÿve key species: balsam, ÿr, hemlock, pine and spruce. From the ÿrst bark-stripped log to the ÿnal polished panel, every product bears the mark of pride, ownership, and exceptional cra˙smanship. But the company’s success isn’t just measured in proÿts or awards. It is deeply committed to giving back. It supports local First Nations communities by sourcing logs from them. It proudly donates plywood to various community projects, including the Surrey Guru Nanak Sikh Elementary School, the South Vancouver Lions Club, Uncle Vinny’s Toy Drive, and the New Westminster Gurdwara, among others.
°e co-operative stands as a beacon and example of what a hardworking immigrant community can achieve by unity, ownership, and perseverance.
Today, Richply employs over 400 individuals, of whom 250 are shareholders. “The co-op structure sets us apart,” says Thandi. “You can start as a non-shareholder employee, work here, buy a share which will make you a co-owner, contribute like an owner, and retire as an employee.”

lenys started a part-time data entry position with Overwaitea Food Group on June 9, 1992. From there, she progressed through various positions over the years including pricing coordinator – price check coordinator - a merchandiser under one of her mentors and friends Jason Clegg. “In 2004 I was then asked to be a part of the project team to stand up our pricing and promotions system called AMP. A˜er the project completed I was then moved into private brands as a business development manager for 2 years-from there I was given a role to lead the team for new lines and costing back then a team of 4. And then u see Brenda Kirk I was given the opportunity to stand up a new team for merchandising contracts and supplier dedication.” Fast forward to today and she merged the new lines – category clerk teams and supplier admin teams into one which is where it
stands today with it evolving and it has expanded into the Data Services division, now comprising 31 team members.
“Some of the biggest lessons I have learned are to exercise patience and resilience and not let my emotions lead me,” She says calmly. “My biggest inspirations have been Brenda Kirk and my good friend Tracey Pritchard and most recently Troy Dewinetz
Leading a large team can come with challenges, Glenys realized. “Most of my team is also comprised of women, except for 3, so we all have diverse personalities. Sometimes, this can cause strife. In learning to overcome obstacles, we must channel our words e°ectively, and understanding each person’s unique style is valuable. As Karl Jung said, ‘Every individual is unique.’ Each individual’s journey toward wholeness and selfrealization is a distinct path and purpose, driven by one’s unique experiences, unconscious thoughts, and interactions with the world.”
As a single mother, balancing a growing career and being present became a challenge for Glenys. In her professional life, she makes herself vulnerable anytime she puts herself out there and is very candid.
“In 2010, I accepted a task to help our growing ethnic team set up our ÿrst East meets West store. ˛en, in 2012, I was introduced to the South Asian team to help them with their processes. It was a step out of my everyday world and a culture I quickly had to learn and adapt. Learning the language and culture, and meeting so many people, was one of the best experiences in my career. Being surrounded by amazing people along the way has been a great support.”
“Act like a leader, even if you’re a female or male. We are all equal. Show your worth and strength. As a leader, planting a garden and watching it grow is critical. Don’t get bogged down in the weeds.”

Personalities draw her to individuals with whom there’s a vibe or a connection. “My manager, Sarah, and I have that; it’s been the best relationship. ˛e energy is just there.”
Glenys has always been a very transparent and open person. She’s not afraid to speak her mind, which can come with some consequences. However, she believes in truth and transparency in both her personal and professional life. “My parents always told me to stand up for what I think is fair and say what I mean.”
Having resilience is critical for her.
“Adaptation to one’s surroundings is key. Ambiguity in my role is a daily occurrence,
challenge. You need to have that one person with whom you can talk and vent, and who is your constant colleague or friend. I also ÿnd that not getting caught up in a game of gender is critical. Act like a leader, even if you’re a female or male. We are all equal. Show your worth and strength. As a leader, planting a garden and watching it grow is critical. Don’t get bogged down in the weeds.”
Every morning, Glenys talks to each team member, asking them questions about work and personal matters. “I believe in gender equality; if you’re the right person, you’re the right person regardless of gender. Sometimes, it’s harder to be with all the boys. But other times, it’s easier to work in a sea of men; there aren’t as many emotions if that makes sense.”

Glenys’ daughter lives in Smithers, BC, a small town in the northern part of the province. She has four grandsons.
“I travel as frequently as possible to go and see them and decompress,” she says excitedly. “I also have a dog—my baby Winnie—and I relax on the patio with a glass of wine,” she says, taking a deep breath, and o°ers wise advice to the next generation of women. “Lean in, stand up for what you want, and advocate for yourself if no one else will. But ÿrst, be professional.”

Tyler McNeil, her longtime coach, and Jason Glass, her ÿtness coach, have developed her mental fortitude and technical prowess under their guidance.
“As a Division 1 athlete, I understand the challenges of balancing sports and academics. However, my interest in business management extends beyond golf. Time management is essential. I plan my week carefully, dedicating time to my studies and training.”

Although she has not faced direct discrimination, she recognizes the broader challenges of diversity and inclusion within the sport. Her goal is to contribute to a future where all athletes can access the resources and support they need to thrive, regardless of their background.

DREAM BIG, BE BOLD, AND GO FOR IT

From early on in her career, Zara recognized that as a woman in media, ÿlm, and television, she couldn’t wait for opportunities to come her way; thus, she had to create them herself.
“In my 20s, I assembled a team, a camera operator, a stylist, and produced a show that didn’t go anywhere,” Zara recalls. °at didn’t deter her. She believed in her vision of eventually airing on network television, and she stayed committed to that dream.
Years later, she has worked on TV shows in Vancouver, Paris, New York, and at the UN Climate Action Summit, as well as the Cannes Film Festival, and in Uzbekistan for the World In˛uencers Congress, among other projects.
Leadership has been both an instinct and a necessity.
“I’ve had to carve out my path, building my table rather than waiting for a seat at someone else’s. ˜at journey has been enriching, allowing me to mentor others.
I’ve helped aspiring creators and built a career that spans multiple countries and television projects worldwide. I learned that leadership entails problem-solving, adaptability, and, as Drishti Magazine would say, connecting the dots—turning ideas into reality and bringing stories to life.”
Her biggest inspirations have been her mom and her grandmother. “˜ey instilled in me values of resilience, tenacity, and the importance of community. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as a woman in leadership is that you can’t do everything alone. A strong, reliable network and a trustworthy team are essential.”
Zara has worked and lived in Vancouver, Paris, and Los Angeles. On assignment at the UN Climate Action Summit, Uzbekistan, Morocco, Lebanon, Cambodia, and beyond.
Currently, she hosts and produces On Location Vancouver with the support of TELUS STORYHIVE, as well as City Lights on Novus TV. She’s also developing a show in France and preparing to attend the Cannes Film Festival to conduct interviews with celebrities. ˜ese experiences have reinforced the importance of dreaming big and staying committed to one’s goals. As a female leader, she understands that not everyone supports her vision, and that’s ÿne with her.
˜is year, her journey of perseverance and purpose was recognized with a Leo Award nomination for Best Host in an Information/LifeStyle series for On Location Vancouver, produced with the support of TELUS Storyhive; a nod to her work and her ability to bring stories to life with passion and authenticity.
“You need to be intentional about who you share your dreams with and those who genuinely believe in you. I write down my dreams and goals because there’s power in putting them into words. ˜e path isn’t always easy, but when you stay committed to your vision, incredible opportunities unfold.”
One of the most vulnerable moments in her life was caring for her mom during her battle with cancer. A˛er she passed, she moved to Paris. “I didn’t speak much French, knew no one, and had no safety net. But that experience taught me resilience and opened
doors to international media opportunities.”
Conÿdence involves taking calculated risks, dealing with uncertainty, and navigating any challenge. “If I hadn’t stepped out of my comfort zone, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
She is the producer of two shows, one of which was national—Life and Style with Zara.
Leading a crew of over twenty people taught her the importance of her team. Authentic leadership is about empowering others, being kind, taking risks, and staying true to oneself.

““It’s about doing things that haven’t been done before,” she says, “and stepping into spaces where others haven’t paved the way. I didn’t have a clear roadmap to follow. I had to trust my instincts and let my heart lead the way. I learned to become my own North Star and embrace the unknown with resilience.”
She has been surrounded by a circle of strong, entrepreneurial women who have been pillars of support. “We li˛ each other, celebrate wins, and share challenges— where women can thrive and learn from each other’s experiences to navigate ambiguity. Women o˛en rise to the top because they’re willing to create new opportunities where none existed before.”
Facing constant deadlines and time zone di˝ erences, her passion for work keeps her focused. “I’m fortunate to have a social circle of creative entrepreneurs who o˝er support. I also prioritize staying connected with friends and ensuring my pets, who

help me stay grounded, are well cared for.”
Her advice to the next generation of women: “Believe in your dream, even if no one else does. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s too big or you’re too much. Keep trying. Talent, a bit of luck, and relentless perseverance will eventually stack in your favor. Dream big, be bold, and go for it. Ignore the naysayers, but don’t share your dreams with everyone; keep your vision close to you.”
Zara continues to re˙ect on her mom’s incredible strength, resilience, and infectious energy. “˜ough she passed almost eight years ago, I carry her spirit with me every day. I miss her deeply. I am forever grateful to her for teaching me strength, showing me the meaning of unconditional love, and inspiring me always to be unapologetically myself.”

Despite experiencing higher rates of anxiety and mood disorders than other groups, South Asian Canadians are 85% less likely to access mental health services when facing the same conditions. That gap isn’t due to a lack of need; it’s a reflection of cultural stigma, fear of judgment, and systemic barriers, such as the absence of culturally appropriate care and language support.”

ustin Bhandal never expected to write a children’s book during medical school. But Changing Our Soch: Tara’s Story isn’t just a book; it’s part of his healing, a tribute to his mother, and a call to shi˜ how South Asian families talk about mental illness.
“I was raised in a Punjabi Sikh household in Abbotsford, British Columbia,” Justin begins. “My mother dealt with mental illness, and even though I was young when she passed on, the memory of her struggle and the silence surrounding it never le˜ me. In the community around us, it wasn’t always easy to talk about mental health openly. °roughout it all, my family did everything they could to be supportive and compassionate. Still, mental illness was o˜en misunderstood in
the broader community and met with stigma rather than understanding,” he now stresses with conviction.
˜e ‘silence’ shaped his life in ways he is still discovering. It’s one of the reasons he chose to study medicine. But along the way, he realized that medical training alone isn’t enough to heal what stigma breaks.
“Sometimes, healing begins with a story,” he says. “˜at’s why I wrote Changing Our Soch. ˜e book follows Tara, a young woman living with schizophrenia, and her family’s journey toward understanding, empathy, and support. It’s designed for children and parents to read together, especially in South Asian households where honest conversations about mental health are still too rare—even taboo, if you will.”
According to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), there are approximately 2.6 million Canadians of South Asian origin, making them the largest racialized group in the country, accounting for 7.1% of Canada’s total population. Despite experiencing higher rates of anxiety and mood disorders than other groups, South Asian Canadians are 85% less likely to access mental health services when facing the same conditions. ˜at gap isn’t due to a lack of need; it’s a re°ection of cultural stigma, fear of judgment, and systemic barriers, such as the absence of culturally appropriate care and language support.
“In many South Asian families, mental illness is still seen as a sign of weakness, something to be hidden rather than treated,” Justin goes on with sadness in his voice. “Fear of bringing shame to the family or being labeled can prevent people from speaking up, even when they’re su˛ering. ˜ese beliefs isolate those who are struggling, making it harder for them to seek help and harder for loved ones to know how to support them. Writing this book was my way of confronting that silence and helping others ÿnd the words I didn’t have as a child.”

anything, it has grounded him more deeply in why he chose this path in the ÿrst place.
“Outside of the classroom, I’ve been fortunate to work with organizations like the Abbotsford Division of Family Practice, the Abbotsford Hospice and Grief Support Society, and the Canucks Autism Network. ˜ese experiences have taught me that meaningful change o˙en happens outside of clinic walls through outreach, education, and building trust in the community.”

his book to the British Columbia Schizophrenia Society. It’s a small way to honor his mother’s memory and to support the very families and individuals still navigating what they once did. He wants this story not only to open hearts but also to directly support the people working every day to provide resources, education, and hope.
˜is book is for people like Justin’s mother and for those families who want to help but don’t know how. “For young people growing up with questions and fears, they o˙en lack the language to express them. I wanted to create something gentle yet honest, something that says: ‘You’re not alone, and there is strength in speaking up.’”
One day, Justin hopes to return home to British Columbia to practice as a family physician, serving the same community that shaped him. “But Changing Our Soch is my way of giving back now. Suppose it helps even one family feel seen or start a conversation that didn’t feel possible before—it’s already half a battle won.”
As part of his mission, Justin has committed to donating all proceeds from
“When I was a child, I couldn’t do anything to help my mom,” Justin says with a voice full of sharp pangs of loss. “I didn’t have the words, the knowledge, or the power to change what was happening around me. But now I do,” his tone changes with conviction. “I’m determined to use that, not just as a future doctor, but as a son, to make sure no child has to grow up in silence the way I did.”
He then pulls a deep sigh before saying, “For my mother, thank you for everything, including the words you couldn’t say. ˜is is for you.”

That leap of faith was my most vulnerable moment since everything rested on my ability to win clients and provide them with worthwhile services. It sounded crazy, but I was constantly reminded of my mother’s words: ‘If you have faith in the work, just carry on.’ So, I did.”

aria’s entrepreneurial journey began at the age of eight, when she assisted her mother in managing her small furniture store. “I wasn’t just dusting shelves; I observed how she attended to her clients like family: masterfully and with unmatched zeal,” Maria recounts. “Each detail was crucial for my mom; she handled all components of the business single-handedly. If a shipment arrived late or a product was damaged, my mother was never one to give up—she would come up with a solution. Her store had taught me how to pivot, breathe, and keep my promises throughout the years. It brings me back to those long nights when she was closing the ledgers while sipping her nightly tea: using the tea to remind me that
we could be tired as long as we met our goals. ˜at is how business was instilled in me, and my mother taught me a lifechanging lesson: that there is no defeat, but rather a struggle, and that in every struggle, a battle is fought.”
Eventually, Maria found her passion in marketing, public relations, and communications. She learned that whether it is a global corporation or a small local business, branding has the potential to change a person’s life. However, a˛er holding several corporate positions, she sought to move beyond rote advertising objectives. She took a leap of faith that she hadn’t taken before: resigning from a secure position to create her marketing agency.
“˜at leap of faith was my most vulnerable moment since everything rested on my ability to win clients and provide them with worthwhile services,” she recalls. “It sounded crazy, but I was constantly reminded of my mother’s words: ‘If you have faith in the work, just carry on.’ So, I did.”
Maria began her agency with a clear objective: to develop personal brands for women. In the early days, a few male peers were skeptical, asking whether personal branding for women was even a thing. ˜ey thought it was a little too speciÿc. “It was shocking to me how many women were stagnant in their careers because no one acknowledged their skill set,” she says with passion. “I set out to change that.” Eventually, she encountered opposition from men of higher rank, especially when she attempted to establish herself as a strategist in communications. Yet, she discovered that if she showed up ready and was honest and consistent with her e°orts, she earned the respect of most of them. ˜e few who didn’t respect her marketing expertise were far more prisoner of their prejudices than she ever thought possible.
Empowering a female plastic surgeon from Eastern Europe to help her excel in a male-dominated industry is one of Maria’s proudest achievements. “We worked hand in hand towards creating a brand strategy for her clinic that brought to the forefront her surgical skills, paired with her compassion for patients. Her clinic is now recognized as one of the top clinics in that region. We battled against preconceived notions—some people

genuinely refused to accept that a woman could operate as the head surgeon—and we showcased her medical publications, the patients she cared for, and the shocking reality of how much she valued the clients she worked with. Her evolution into a much-in-demand ÿgure is the reason I care so much about personal branding.”
Mentoring has gone past being just client work for Maria. It is now an essential part of her leadership strategy. In contrast to the average mentoring approach, she does not simply take on every person who wants to be guided. To earn her commitment, one needs to show her ambition, intellectual curiosity, and an honest readiness to work. “Personal branding is not merely an aggressive social media marketing stunt,” she says. “It is the endorsement of one’s guiding principles by one’s actions throughout the professional spectrum. And yes, I love to say that one of my guiding principles is helping other women succeed.”
On an individual level, motherhood has transformed Maria in ways she had not anticipated. “It increased my compassion, forced me to learn how to schedule my day
with laser focus, and made me value my mother’s endurance even more than I did before. ˜ere is no perfect science to juggling a business and a family; I have learned to draw the line, be kind to myself when I’m not able to do it all, and enjoy the times when I can. Seldom do things warm my heart as much as observing my daughter now studying business at UBC's Sauder School of Business—carrying on the family tradition of starting small but dreaming big.”
Last but not least, diversity and inclusion are integral to everything Maria does. “˜e stronger the businesses and communities become, the more unique perspectives we invite to the table. ˜is is why I am incredibly proud to share my story in Drishti’s special edition for inspiring women. Celebrating di°erences among people is not about justice; it is about innovation. My mother instilled in me the values of honest perseverance and empathy. Hence, to all young women wondering if they can go further, the answer is clear: you can keep moving forward, stay rooted in your values, and let yourself shine.”

Nearly 45% of Canadians report that in˜ation and the rising cost of living have signiÿcantly a˛ected their ability to cover day-to-day expenses. Adjusted for in˜ation, prices for almost everything are 12 percentage points higher than they were two years earlier (33%). ˝ese results are based on a report from the Canadian Social Survey. Major concerns for Canadians, according to the study, are food a˛ordability, housing, transport, energy, and general living expenses.
˝e report also reveals that una˛ordability and the ÿnancial strains as a result of in˜ation negatively impact mental health. More than one-third (35%) of Canadians reported that most days are quite a bit or extremely stressful due to ÿnancial issues.
Rising prices also have a disproportionately negative impact on lower-income individuals in Canada. ˝e report also shows that more than half of younger adults are experiencing greater ÿnancial di˙culties and are more

concerned about rising prices, especially those related to housing. What causes in˜ation?
˝e primary factors that cause in˜ation cannot be attributed to a single reason; instead, multiple contributing factors are at play. In˜ation is not about a single product increasing in price or the simple laws of supply and demand, but rather a broad-based spectrum increase across many goods and services in an economy. As prices rise, the value of money decreases, meaning your dollar doesn’t stretch as far as it previously did. If wages stagnate or fail to keep pace with in˜ation, “stag˜ation” occurs, meaning paychecks don’t stretch to meet the cost of living.
In˜ation is both a ÿnancial and socio-economic issue with global implications, a˛ecting countries to varying degrees. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the full e˛ects were evident as the global economy shi˝ed suddenly from services to goods, impacting the global supply chain. More recently,

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats of increased tari˛s, and war tensions in the Middle East have made in˜ation surge even more. What are the e˛ects of in˜ation?
“While most people see and feel inflation through their wallets and purses in the form of rising prices, there is also a quantitative methodology in calculating inflation. In Canada, as in some other countries, inflation is measured using the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which tracks the price changes of a basket of selected consumer goods and services.”
High in˜ation can negatively impact consumers as their purchasing power decreases, making it harder for them to a˛ord necessities. A low and stable rate of in˜ation (around 2%) is generally considered a sign of a healthy economy, both stimulating spending and growth. ˝is is the target the Bank of Canada has set for the last two years and into the future. In˜ation in Canada.
In Canada, in˜ation is primarily driven by a combination of global and domestic factors. ˝ese include geopolitical instability and tensions, trade and tari˛ wars, global supply chain disruptions, increased demand for goods and services, and rising production costs. Factors such as the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and extreme weather events have all contributed to exacerbating these pressures, as well as rising costs for raw materials, energy, and labor, which are passed on to consumers through higher prices. What Canada is doing – ˙e Central Bank of Canada and the Federal Government
As the country’s central bank, the Bank of Canada’s monetary policy decisions to control in˜ation take into account global economic conditions and domestic supply and demand dynamics. To control in˜ation, the Bank of Canada primarily uses monetary policy, speciÿcally adjusting the policy interest rate. ˝is involves raising interest rates to reduce borrowing and spending, thereby curbing demand and slowing down price increases. ˝e hope is that raising this interest rate makes borrowing more expensive for consumers, encouraging them to save and reduce spending, which helps cool an overheated economy and bring in˜ation down. While the Bank of Canada primarily handles monetary policy, the Canadian federal government also plays a role through ÿscal policy, which involves government spending and taxation.
Individual Strategies: How to Combat In˜ation.
With no control over interest rates and the prices of groceries, goods, and services on an individual level, creating a budget and tracking expenses can help consumers identify areas where they can reduce spending and combat in˜ation. Investing in assets that outpace in˜ation,

such as stocks, shares, real estate, or in˜ation-protected bonds and hedges, can help protect savings from the eroding e˛ects of in˜ation.
˝e good news is that, over the last few months, the Bank of Canada has been meeting its target to combat in˜ation. In˜ation is unchanged at 1.7% in May 2025, according to Statistics Canada. ˝e Bank of Canada’s governor, Ti˛ Macklem, said the central bank would be paying closer attention to see what is happening to in˜ation amid U.S. tari˛s.
Macklem said, “We will continue to watch developments in the economy very closely. We are committed to getting in˜ation back to 2% by the end of 2025.”

ongratulations—if you own gold, whether in the form of bars, coins, or jewelry, you are even wealthier. ˜e price of gold has surged by over 40% recently, with a remarkable 72% increase since mid-2023, when an ounce of gold was valued at under $1,800. Historically, gold hit an all-time high of US$3,500 in April 2025. You can now buy gold bars and coins at stores like Costco and local banks, thanks to the increased demand and interest in gold over the past year.
Why is gold so valuable, and what has caused its rapid increase?
Since ancient times, gold has been regarded as the most reliable means of safeguarding wealth during periods of in°ation or signiÿcant economic or political uncertainty. Countries hold gold through central banks as part of their national reserves and collective wealth.
Gold di˝ers from paper currency
because no single country, organization, or government policy controls its supply. It can’t be overproduced due to its scarcity, and extracting it is both complex and costly, making it very rare and di˙cult to ÿnd. Gold is also an integral part of cultures and traditions, especially in India, where most gold is privately owned.
˜e beauty of gold, aside from its shine and emotional appeal, is that unlike real estate, bonds, stocks, or other investments that produce proÿts, dividends, or income, gold does not need these returns. Additionally, unlike paper money, which loses value over time due to in°ation, gold maintains its worth.
Gold is a proven and safe asset for preserving wealth. It is also highly liquid, meaning it can be easily turned into cash. It appears as gold bars, coins, and jewelry, and it is always in demand, especially during uncertain times.

The price of gold has surged by over 40% recently, with a remarkable 72% rise since mid-2023, when an ounce of gold was valued at below US$1,800. Historically, gold hit an all-time high of US$3,500 in April 2025. There has been a significant increase in demand and interest in gold over the past year as global uncertainty has grown.
Some of the most common ways to invest in gold include gold bars or bullion, gold coins, gold jewelry and gold ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds) that own gold assets in a stock portfolio.
˜e Importance of Gold in India. Gold has undoubtedly been and remains of signiÿcant importance in Indian culture. India is the world’s largest gold consumer and gold jewelry consumer. Most Indian gold is used for jewelry and held in private hands. Gold is very symbolic and is deemed “auspicious,” meaning it is seen as a promising symbol of good luck and prosperity. Additionally, gold holds a sentimental value and has always been a popular giˆ for special events such as weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and cultural celebrations. In ancient Indian mythology, gold is believed to be the symbol of the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, fortune, power, beauty, and prosperity. Not only is gold considered the ultimate store of wealth, but it is also a popular investment option in India, with investment demand for gold ETFs and other ÿnancial instruments growing. In recent years, there has also been an increase in gold loans as consumers use their gold holdings as collateral for loans. Why has gold risen so sharply?
Gold is best viewed as a long-term ‘forget it and leave it’ type of investment rather than a ‘Get rich quick’ scheme. Most precious metal analysts predict that the price of an ounce of gold will be around $ 4,000 in 2026 and will continue to rise over the long term, potentially at an even faster rate if economic and geopolitical tensions remain high.

˜e recent surge in gold prices since 2023 re°ects shiˆing demand for the yellow metal as a ÿnancial asset amid a turbulent global landscape. In 2022, with the start of the Russia-Ukraine con°ict, gold prices shot up and continue to climb as U.S. tari˝s, the ongoing con°ict in Gaza, and the recent war between Iran and Israel have ened nervousness in the global political and economic systems.
It is interesting that, while other commodities are primarily driven by supply and demand, gold is oˆen in°uenced by psychological factors, such as economic downturns, monetary policies, and currency valuations. Recently, as the U.S. dollar has declined in value, many countries’ central banks, including China, are purchasing and stockpiling gold reserves in record amounts as a hedge against political instability and the weakening U.S. dollar.
It’s important to remember that
al asset recognized and valued worldwide (beyond national currencies and economic conditions), the precious metal is typically a dollar-denominated asset, meaning its value is expressed in U.S. dollars. Dollar-denominated assets usually have an inverse relationship with the strength of the U.S. dollar. ˜erefore, if the dollar’s value declines, gold’s value tends to rise, and vice versa.
Gold prices can be volatile in the short term. Historically, other assets, such as real estate, stocks, shares, and bonds, tend to yield higher returns in both short-and long-term cycles, even

during turbulent economic and market conditions. However, when you invest in the precious metal, there are no dividends or interest earned on gold investments. So, outside of a few gold ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds), the only way to proÿt from gold is to sell it when the price increases.
Is now a good time to invest in gold? Ultimately, there’s a degree of subjectivity in deciding whether now is a better time to invest in gold compared to other
periods. Many precious metal experts agree that this is a good time to diversify your portfolio with gold. However, most ÿnancial experts do not recommend holding more than 5-10% of your total assets in physical gold or ETFs because of their short-term volatility and °uctuations. Gold is best seen as a long-term “forget it and leave it” type of investment. Most precious metal analysts forecast that the price of a gold ounce will be around the $4,000 mark in 2026. It could continue to increase at an even faster rate in the long run if global uncertainty and concerns about economic and geopolitical issues persist.
However, caution is required, investing in gold is not a “get rich quick” scheme and is a highly volatile investment over the short term. Consult with your ÿnancial advisor ÿrst before making any decision to invest in in the most precious of precious metals.

Canada has a fundamental economic growth problem, something that has become more exacerbated since the global pandemic. Our economy is now smaller than it was in 2019 when adjusted for in˜ation and population growth. It has been almost stagnant for the last decade, according to the World Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. °e problems are not all caused by poor governance and economic ÿscal policy. Globalization, the COVID-19 crisis, and geopolitical market forces are also part of the equation. Manufacturing is half what it was since the 1980s. Automation and new technology have also signiÿcantly impacted the labor market. At the same time, traditional resource industries such as mining and forestry have experienced contraction.
“As a sign more relatable to the average Canadian citizen that the Canadian economy is not doing well, nearly 45 percent of Canadians were living paycheque to paycheque before Trump’s tariff threats. This is according to a survey in November 2024, with more than half of the people polled believing Canada was in an economic recession.”

Key issues that hinder the Canadian economy:
according to the Toronto Dominion Bank’s Economics division.
Canada’s economy is heavily reliant on trade with the United States, with a signiÿcant percentage of exports destined for the US market. °e Bank of Canada estimates that investment in the Canadian economy could decline by 12 percent and that exports will fall by 8.5 percent if U.S. President Donald Trump’s tari˝s remain in place for a full year. °e bank predicts that Canadian growth will decline by three percent over the next two years.
Oil and gas have also undergone cycles of boom and bust, necessitating increased investment for future growth, according to a survey by Leger Marketing Inc. in November 2024. More than half of the people surveyed believed Canada was in an economic recession.
Canada’s productivity, as measured by Gross Domestic Product (GDP), has been lagging behind that of other developed nations. Statistics Canada reported that in June 2025, Canada’s real Gross Domestic Product edged down 0.1 percent in April 2025, and its advance estimate for May 2025 indicated a similar decline. Negative GDP growth is expected in the second and third quarters of 2025,
°e International Monetary Fund has estimated that Canada’s interprovincial internal trade barriers cost the equivalent of a 20% average tari˝ between provinces. By comparison, the e˝ective tari˝ rate applied to international imports in Canada is less than 1%.
What are the possible solutions to Canada’s economic woes?
°e newly minted Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has an enormous task of rebuilding the Canadian economy a˙er years of stagnation and now faces an escalating trade and tari˝ war with the United States. Carney has vowed to ÿght

any imposed tari˝s with reciprocal Canadian tari˝s on US goods.
In June 2025, the Federal government passed Bill C-5, allowing the creation of “special economic zones” where provincial laws, including environmental and labor regulations, can be suspended for approved projects deemed necessary for Canadian economic development. Several provinces have signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) to enhance the movement of goods, services, investment, and labor. °is will lay the groundwork for uniÿed economic infrastructure projects. Including oil and gas pipelines, nuclear development, energy grids, and transportation – all with a focus on Canadian energy independence and Arctic sovereignty.
In terms of the labor market, government statistics indicate that the bulk of population and workforce growth in the future is expected to come mainly from immigration. Canada needs a more e˝ective system to match education and skills with job opportunities.

“The economic problems are not all caused by economic fiscal policy. Globalization, the COVID-19 crisis, and geopolitical market forces are also part of the equation. The gradual deindustrialization of many parts of Canada since the 1980s has also cut into the country’s overall prosperity, leading to economic decline and lower GDP.”
Canada’s tax competitiveness needs to be improved through broader reforms that reduce complexity and the cost of tax compliance. °is could help attract more foreign investment, particularly from foreign companies. Prime Minister Carney is also forging links with various trading partners, particularly in Europe and Asia, to circumvent dependence on US trade and the threat of tari˝s.
Conclusion – Good news.
°e good news is that Canada has a strong infrastructure overall, ranking at the top of the G7 in World Bank rankings. Transportation and warehousing are among the few industries where Canadian business investment accounts for a larger share of industry GDP than in the US. Agriculture has also been a standout performer in Canada, with the adoption of new technologies and practices yielding increasing output.
Christopher Sands, director of the Wilson Center’s Canada Institute °ink Tank, notes in a recent CBC interview that “the silver lining” of the trade con˜ict with the US is that Canada will now be forced to seriously consider
reforming its economic policies, which include a restrictive regulatory environment and lagging investment.”
°e disruption in the Canada-US trade relationship and the “elbows up” attitude have encouraged Canadians to address longstanding economic vulnerabilities. °e hope is that we will be in a much better position a few years from now as we face greater economic challenges than ever before.

Artiÿcial Intelligence has been advancing at a galloping rate. Companies have been among the most intriguing frontiers in the evolution of AI companions, digital entities designed to assist and support us in our everyday lives.
°e major areas where AI companions are making signiÿcant strides are conversational chatbots and AI-powered ÿtness devices. To comprehend this, it is crucial to understand what Chatbots and AI-powered devices are. Chatbots are
simple tools that act as assistants and companions. From setting reminders to scheduling meetings, they could make life simple and be your digital secretaries. ChatGPT, Siri, and Alexa are your best examples. °ey could be your buddies, reading out stories and giving you news updates. Consider checking the weather forecast before planning your vacation or even stepping out. °ese AI-powered tools could manage life beautifully, reducing manpower, adding cost-e˛ectiveness, and working around timelines. °eir USP is accuracy and speed.
°ese days, we all live in an era where we have a cyclic lifestyle with barely any time to spend with family and friends. It’s either some weekends or when vacations are planned. In such times, these digitalized companions could serve to help with having conversations and dealing with anxiety. °eir daily a˝rmations could upli˙ their mood and motivate them.
Nowadays, each of us is becoming increasingly health-conscious, whether due to personal health concerns or informed by factual information. Knowledge and information are readily available through various social media platforms and the internet, which creates awareness. Accessibility has created a beautiful network of information that is easy and quick. On the health and wellness front, AI-powered ÿtness devices are transforming the way people approach exercise and physical well-being. Wearables like Fitbit and Apple Watches use sensors and

machine learning to deliver insights about sleep, heart rate, activity levels, and recovery. °ese devices serve as your personalized training assistants, tracking your progress and helping you achieve your goals and targets based on your health statistics. °ey could be your yoga instructors and also your Zumba coaches. Provide you with feedback, remind you to drink water, and also help you analyze your posture technique.
°e future of AI and human connectivity is likely to be unique and deeply intertwined. Even today, it is practically impossible for someone to go without a simple cell phone for a day or two, so imagine the future when AI completely encapsulates human life. It’s remarkable to see how we have become so dependent on digital devices, or, more speciÿcally, scientiÿc innovations, yet believe it or not, they have an immense positive impact on human life, not overshadowing the inevitable negative

consequences. Motivational a˝rmations and soothing music could be of great help on a bad day. At any time of day or late at night, they are always available to be great listeners and advisers.
Sleep Analyzers:
On the one hand, these devices help optimize sleep and its overall analysis. On the other hand, there are human tendencies to overutilize technology, which can also contribute to the development of insomnia. AI devices and ÿtness bands can provide a detailed analysis of your sleep, from deep and restful sleep to no sleep at all. Science has proven that when we are in deep sleep, our body works to heal and work proÿciently. However, if one constantly engages with these devices, they may also lose a signiÿcant amount of rest. °ere is a ÿne line between e˝ciency and loss that we need to mark for ourselves.
As AI companions grow more capable and present in our lives, they also raise important ethical and psychological questions.
Can or should AI replace human interaction in speciÿc contexts? How can we ensure privacy and security, particularly when handling sensitive health data or personal conversations? We have observed that AI has replaced humans and has proven to be cost-e˛ective and very prompt. °is intelligence

has been a boon to many sectors, including health and education. °e future of AI companions lies in their ability to become deeply integrated into our lives—emotionally intelligent chatbots and adaptive ÿtness devices working together to enhance our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Moreover, devices have been programmed to keep the information conÿdential. Under no circumstances is the data required to be shared; it is done with prior permission under a signed contract for promotional purposes or surveys. As the line between human and machine interaction continues to blur, these companions have the potential not only to assist but also to enrich the human experience in meaningful and lasting ways. °e challenge and opportunity lie in designing them thoughtfully, ethically, and inclusively. It’s time to make the most of them to our advantage.

“ ______
I didn’t
wait for the perfect time. If you keep procrastinating, you’ll never feel ready. Starting early gave me room to grow, experiment, and learn.”

“I believe that taking risks early in life can yield greater rewards. When you’re young, you have less to lose and more time to recover. That’s when you should dream big and dare even bigger.”
Ronit Jassal is a second-generation entrepreneur who proudly carries forward the legacy of Jassal Signs, a business well-recognized in the South Asian community, particularly among small business owners. What sets Ronit apart is not merely that he inherited the family business—it is the bold and enterprising spirit with which he has taken it to new heights at a remarkably young age.
In an interview with Drishti, Ronit spoke candidly about his entrepreneurial journey—one that began when he was still in high school. While many of his peers were navigating teenage dilemmas, Ronit was
BY SURBHI GOGIA
already launching his business venture. Since then, he has not only expanded his father’s enterprise but has done so while simultaneously pursuing a full-time college degree.
Ronit attributes his success to the foundational values instilled in him by his father: hard work, consistency, and an unwavering focus on customer satisfaction. ˜ese principles, he says, are the bedrock upon which Jassal Signs was built. However, Ronit added his modern touch, introducing dynamic marketing strategies, leveraging the power of social media, and embracing digital tools to connect with a broader audience.
“I believe that taking risks early in life
can yield greater rewards,” Ronit says. “When you’re young, you have less to lose and more time to recover. ˜at’s when you should dream big and dare even bigger.”
His father, Harjinder Jassal, founded the company in 2006 a°er immigrating to Canada. He co-founded it as a signage business in India with his brother. Over the last three decades, the company has become a trusted name for producing signage that illuminates storefronts, o˛ering more than just visibility but a lasting impression for businesses, even a°er hours.
Born in 2005 and raised in Surrey, Ronit grew up immersed in conversations about

design, clients, and business strategy. Over the years, Jassal Signs became a household name. Still, Ronit’s journey stands out not because he inherited a successful business but because of how he chose to shape and expand it. He believes legacy is not built by inheritance but by innovation and dedication.
“It’s not what you acquire but what you do with it that makes the di˛erence,” he says. Starting early and staying focused helped him gain conÿdence and momentum. “Among my friends and cousins, people dreamt of becoming engineers, doctors, or actors. But I always saw myself in business,” he said.
At 15, instead of immediately joining the signage business, Ronit identiÿed a gap in the market through his real estate
“
I attribute my work ethic to my parents, especially my father, Harjinder Jassal, who remains my biggest inspiration. My parents are my role models. And I draw motivation from anyone who has achieved something through hard work.”
connections. He saw his realtor relatives struggle to ÿnd uniÿed marketing services and decided to o˛er a one-stop solution. He launched Chroma Studios in Grade 11, a digital services ÿrm o˛ering real estate marketing content, listings, social media management, photography, and print materials—all under one roof.
Today, Ronit is pursuing a full-time Bachelor’s degree in Business at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) while managing Chroma Studios and Jassal Signs.
“I didn’t wait for the perfect time. If you keep procrastinating, you’ll never feel ready. Starting early gave me room to grow, experiment, and learn.”
His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is simple: “Don’t wait to feel ready. Take the ÿrst step, and build as you go. Surround yourself with people who guide and
challenge you. ˜ese are the best years to take risks because responsibilities are still manageable. If not now, then when?” ˜e same ideology is helping Ronit to expand his father’s business to new horizons by diversifying the signage business and leveraging technology.
Initially, Jassal Signs started o˛ering di˛erent signage services in one Surrey location. Ronit’s father had made Jassal Signs a household name amongst small businesses. O˛ering the bold dimensionality of 3D Channel Letters, the glowing Light Boxes, or the timeless elegance of Neon Signs, Jassal Signs brings brands to life. Whether it’s the Outdoors, Metal Signs that withstand the elements, or Marquee Letters with Jassal Signs, businesses make a statement.
Under Ronit’s leadership, Jassal Signs has grown beyond Surrey, expanding to new locations in Abbotsford, Cloverdale, and two sites in Alberta. A U.S. location in California is also on the horizon. Ronit credits this expansion to the adoption of technology and social media, something his father’s generation didn’t see the dawning of this technology.
Ronit says reaching out to more customers and expanding into new markets was all made possible due to technology and social media. “My father’s generation did not grow up with technology. ˜e business promotion was all through word of mouth in a tight-knit business. For our generation, technology is inseparable. I brought in more technology in printing, expanding market outreach with social media, which made all the di˛erence.
He diversiÿed the business to other services and tapped more businesses from communities other than Punjabis. “We specialize in cra°ing custom vehicle wraps for personal and business purposes. No matter the size or type of your vehicle, our team ensures a perfect blend of style and visibility, turning every drive into an opportunity to showcase your brand or personal ˙air.”
“We’ve started o˛ering custom vehicle wraps, marketing materials such as business cards, menus, ˙yers, wall wraps, and more. We now cater to a wider customer base, including communities beyond Punjabis—like the Korean and Filipino communities—and we’re getting government contracts.”

captivating signage that enhances your brand. Experience seamless quality and creativity, ensuring your vision becomes a stunning reality. Trust us for impactful, professionally cra°ed signage solutions. We strive to lead the industry by delivering high-quality products and pushing the boundaries of design, cra°smanship, and technology to help our clients stand out and succeed in the market.”
Despite his age, Ronit acknowledges that gaining trust in the industry hasn’t always been easy. “˜e biggest challenge is being taken seriously as a young entrepreneur. People o°en associate age with experience. But people trust you if you show up, deliver quality work, and stay consistent.”
Building credibility, he says, is not a one-time achievement—it has to be earned and maintained with every project. “You have to repeatedly prove yourself to di˛erent people di˛erently.”
Juggling school and business, Ronit says
Outside of business, Ronit is also passionate about giving back. His company supports local charities and sponsors community events across the Lower Mainland. He’s enthusiastic about supporting young entrepreneurs and urges them to chase their goals without hesitation.
“If you have a dream, pursue it. Young people today have more access to tools and platforms than ever before. Technology and social media have leveled the playing ÿeld. You don’t need a massive company to make an impact—what matters is how you use what you have.”
Ronit describes himself in three words: Motivated, conÿdent, and creative.
He believes conÿdence is key to speaking, carrying oneself, and adapting in any room. Outside of work and studies, Ronit enjoys boxing and is currently training for his next ÿght, which is scheduled for the end of summer. He also likes dining at steakhouses—his favorite being Black + Blue in downtown Vancouver.
“
My advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is simple: Don’t wait to feel ready. Take the first step, and build as you go. Surround yourself with people who guide and challenge you. These are the best years to take risks because responsibilities are still manageable. If not now, then when?”

˜ough not a big reader, he enjoys watching horror ÿlms and is inspired by athletes like Kobe Bryant for their commitment to self-improvement.
Indeed, where some inherit legacies and preserve them, Ronit has chosen to transform his inheritance into a launchpad, proving that with the right mix of tradition and innovation, the sky is the limit.

a broader body frame or greater height. Each individual’s body mass index, muscle composition, fat percentage, water retention, and other factors require examination. Maintaining a healthy weight is vital for overall well-being. However, the concept of a
“healthy weight” can o°en be misinterpreted or overly simpliÿed as merely losing weight, being thin, or being overweight.
Let’s dive into the process:
Step 1: Understanding healthy weight: A healthy weight is essential for overall health, depending on factors such as body composition, height, and gender. Recognizing each person’s ideal weight is vital and varies based on genetics, age, muscle mass, and activity levels. It involves not only appearance but also reducing the risk of chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes, fatty liver, and many others.
Step 2. How to determine a healthy weight ˝ere are several methods for determining whether you are within a

healthy weight range. Some of the most common include three numerical factors that could help you calculate your ideal weight:
• Body Mass Index (BMI)
• Waist-to-Height Ratio
• Body Fat Percentage
Step 3. Determine the factors that in˜uence healthy weight
While excessive exercise, burning calories, and maintaining an optimal healthy diet can help us achieve our desired weight, several other factors can also contribute to weight plateauing or fat loss without showing any weight loss on the scale. So, what are these factors?
• Genetics
• Age
• Hormonal Changes
• Lifestyle
How to achieve an ideal healthy weight?
For all those who want to maintain a healthy weight, we have ÿnally reached the point where we understand how to achieve this and how long the process takes.

A. Create a mindset:
Before you start any exercise regime, join a gym, or even commence a nutritional program, it is crucial to create a mindset focused on healthy weight. Weight management is a continuous process; it must be involved and satisfying rather than frustrating and starving. So, the most important thing is to create a positive mindset and environment around yourself.
B. Focus on nutrient-dense foods:
Eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Its essential to avoid junk and include nutritious food. A balanced meal is
preferable with high ÿbre and low-fat content. ˝ese foods are essential for weight management yet low in calories.
C. Practice portion control:
While maintaining a calorie-conscious diet rich in nutrition is excellent, it is also essential to practice portion control. Portion sizes play a signiÿcant role in regulating calorie intake in the body. An easy way to do it is by keeping a count on the calorie intake.
D. Increase activity:
While you can maintain your diet, it is crucial to boost your activity. Joining a gym, starting to walk, jog, or cycle, or
even doing stretching exercises at home along with yoga can be excellent options. If you are a sport lover or lazing around the pool, it time to dip-dive and burn some extra calories.
E. Get enough sleep:
Adequate sleep plays an essential role in weight management as well as stress management. One should aim to sleep for at least 7 to 8 hours to allow the body to rest and function better. Not many are

aware but sleep helps physical health, mental function and emotional well being
F. Visit a dietician or a Nutritionist: If you work in an industry like enter tainment or sports, you may need to maintain a speciÿc body weight. Consulting a nutritionist or dietitian

rather than quick ÿxes. Some challenges may arise along the way.
H. Beware emotional eating: You may sometimes be stressed or bored, which could lead to emotional eating.
I. Take note when traveling: One of the most important moments is when you are traveling and wish to indulge in calories. ˝ere are times unknowingly when we grab high calorie junk. Its time to take note, even if that’s on your phone.
J. See a doctor or nutritionist: Consult your family doctor or nutritionist

Minimalism is the new trend. We all need more space to breathe and relax. We want spaces that don’t feel cluttered and overly done but rather classic and contemporary. We aim to design a more spacious house with some of the ÿnest gadgets and timeless aesthetics. In homes like this, statement pieces can re-create and redeÿne an entire space, making your home a memorable one. Statement pieces are unique elements that stand out in large spaces and do not require additional elements to accentuate their look; they speak for themselves, making a lasting impression. °ey are self-su˛cient pieces that could highlight a corner. Let’s dive deep to understand and see what place in our homes we can redeÿne to give it a new look.
Classic Center Tables:
°ese are your co˝ee tables or center tables, usually placed between couches to o˝er snacks to guests. While these are simplistic glass tables at home, they could become statement pieces if their shape and size are unique and modiÿed. How

about a center table with a marble mermaid or a ÿgurine below or a chessboard table? If you’re someone who enjoys a lot of handwork, a glass or marble center table with an interesting design could surely be your statement piece.
Wall Gardens:
°is is an exciting concept, and the best part is that you don’t have to put in any e˝ort if you’re looking at non-real and artiÿcial plants. If there is a corner in your house where you would like to have co˝ee, a walled garden with real or artiÿcial plants could be a great option. Do not forget that gardens require a lot of work, and they could also spoil the wall behind, so choose your option very wisely.
Grand Size Installations:
Interesting installations in varied corners could add an Oomph factor to the entire room or the corner. °ese could be life-size installations. Some individuals prefer to keep inscriptions of holy gods and goddesses. Others opt for Feng Shui installations, while some also prefer modern art pieces that lack a speciÿc
deÿnition. Others prefer animals like a galloping horse, a leopard, or even a huge lion face. Select something that speaks about your personality. When one has an installation at home, one should try to break the colors of the room. If most of the furniture in the room is in shades of brown, having an installation in a contrasting color, such as gold, mustard, or a light shade, could break the pattern,

Modular and multipurpose furniture: With technology taking over, home decor these days o˝ers creative installation pieces that can be both beautiful and functional. We all have seen the dice-shaped stools. Similarly, car-shaped beds are readily available for bedroom decor, especially for kids. Another option is to have a puzzle piece table, which can serve as an interactive space while you wait for your meal. Drum-shaped side tables for your evening co˝ees could be an ethnic mix. Bookshelf shaped like a tree or even a cactus coat rack. °ese examples are furniture pieces that are already created and available for purchase. Still, they can be curated and personalized to suit your style and comfort. While some prefer a brand, others may like to have a tree of life in their living room, with chairs underneath right in the corner of the room, to create

To conclude, it’s ÿne not to copy any style own. °ese are just a few things you can add to create more life in your spaces. You could come up with great ideas to add a vibe.

While it is essential to focus on indoor seating and comfort, one could also create a fabulous and functional outdoor space that not only complements the overall decor and ambiance but also provides additional space for conversation. Since outdoor spaces are an extension of your home, they could speak a lot about you and your gatherings. Sculpting your outdoor seating begins with selecting the right furniture and creating the perfect backdrop. ˜e best pieces don’t just o°er the right look and feel—they deÿne the mood, style, and usability of your outdoor living area. Here’s how to sculpt your outdoor seating:

Outdoor living is also an integral part of your home, so the goal is to plan a radiant mix of aesthetics and functionality that outshines but still creates a cozy space. ˜e ÿrst step is to decide how you would like to design your outdoor space. It can be in various formats, ranging from a patio to a porch and from outdoor glass balconies to a high outdoor deck. If you host a pool party, consider creating a themed corner with a view of the fountain and outdoor seating. In recent times, technology has also enabled the creation of LED water fountains, wall fountains, and wall gardens, along with seating. So, let’s start with how you would like to design the backdrop.
˜e right materials ensure your outdoor furniture withstands the elements, adding chic sophistication. Teak can be a suitable option since it is naturally weather-resistant, durable, and ages beautifully. Lightweight, rustproof aluminum is also available in modern ÿnishes. Lounge chairs, outdoor all-season swings, wooden benches, or even bean bags could be good options. If you are into outdoor parties and barbecues, don’t forget to have comfortable chairs with side handles, along with tables. If you would like to invest in aesthetics and long-term value, creating custom-made marble pieces and stone artwork can be an option, depending on your budget.

Technology and Style in Every Aspect
˜ese days, technology plays a crucial role, and if you are someone who likes to go high-tech, go this way. USB and wireless chargers are integrated into tables and loungers. How about some Smart Lighting outdoors to create the right mood and give that evening e°ect? LED furniture with app or voice control for ambiance. Heated furniture could be great for colder evenings, with energy-efÿcient heating systems. Speakers & audio systems are seamlessly embedded into furniture for outdoor music experiences.
Multifunctional Designs
In today’s world, it is always advisable to opt for multifunctional designs. What
does that mean? ˜ese are pieces that can be folded or reused as di°erent decor items or used to recreate spaces. Modular sofas, for example, can be reconÿgured for social gatherings, lounging, or intimate settings. Convertible seating, for instance, includes benches that become tables and loungers that fold into daybeds. Stackable and foldable designs, with built-in storage featuring seating that includes hidden compartments for pillows, blankets, or tools. All of these could be great options when you want to create and recreate spaces.
Accessories that Enhance
Adding a pinch of styling, design, and outlining could redeÿne spaces and

seating areas. If you’re someone who enjoys morning co°ee outdoors, having a small side table or a co°ee table could be an excellent idea. If you have a water fountain in the front yard or a small ÿreplace, it would be nice to have a small storage stand or a box with handy items, such as a remote for lighting the wood or some napkins for unexpected spills. Additionally, you could also have outdoor rugs to give comfort underfoot while moving around. Introducing color through texture and cushions can be an excellent way to add a touch of comfort to evening events and parties.
Sustainability and Eco-friendly options
Being an eco-friendly addict can be a beautiful thing. Reclaimed wood and recycled materials are eco-friendly options. It’s like inviting nature into your arms. ˜e use of handcra˝ed materials and fabrics, along with the creation of customized elements, can showcase quality cra˝smanship. ˜ese can be in the form of rugs, throws, textiles, and even wood.

To conclude, each space is di°erent, and so is each mind. ˜ink out of the box and curate your style and pattern. With the right pieces, your outdoor space becomes a sanctuary for relaxation or entertainment. While it is easy to copy trends and imitate fashionable ideas, your outdoor space is an extension of your livelihood, so let it be your creation. You must select every piece that speaks wholesomely about you and creates a very comforting space for your family.

When we go shopping, we o˜en end up buying more things than we need. Sometimes, we have two to three pairs of shoes or maybe a couple of dresses, even though our wardrobes have no space to store them or even artifacts for the home. Also, times have changed, and most of what we wear is branded merchandise. If you were asked to assess the value of the brands on yourself and their worth, it could be a signiÿcant value.
In an era where consumerism o˜en prevails over consciousness, a new wave of luxury is emerging among the youth, one that’s not deÿned by price tags but by purpose. ‘Mindful luxury’ is a growing movement in fashion and lifestyle that emphasizes intentional living, ethical choices, and enduring value. It’s about investing in fewer, higher-quality things that align with our values and re˛ect a more profound sense of self.
˜e
Traditional luxury has long been associated with opulence, abundance, and exclusivity. However, consumers are increasingly aware that, with
digitalization, social media networks are constantly bombarded with educational information. Mindful luxury shi˜s the focus from excess to essence—valuing quality over quantity, cra˜smanship over convenience, and authenticity over status. ˝e evolution of youth has now begun, recognizing that recognition does not lie in accumulating things, such as vintage or jewelry, or in keeping them as antiques in lockers and wardrobes. Instead, it lies in appreciation and variability. It lies in the fact that certain things can be reused, rewoven, or recreated and utilized instead of being discarded. ˝erefore, having a costly, statement vintage coat in a unique color is no longer o˜en chosen over a utility, premium-quality, daily-wearable winter essential.
Mindful luxury prompts us to reevaluate what we genuinely value. Purchasing high-end luxury and fashion items but being able to mix and match them and use them multiple times is the key.
1. All-time favorite types of denim that could be paired with shorts for formal occasions, with
casual wear, tank tops, or even o˙-shoulders for co˙ees and brunches

2. Layered or pleated skirts pair well with monochromatic tops, o˙-the-shoulder styles, and even plain T-shirts.
3. Trench coats are a great and stylish option for the winter. You could wear it over boots, cut pants, or even short skirts. If you’re fond of long skirts, they pair well with these on top.
4. Accessories play a signiÿcant role in accentuating. Your entire look looks great with some chunky jewelry, or if you prefer something more subtle, even a pair of your rings and a chain pendant could be a great option.
5. Single-color dresses can be tailored in various ways. Wear a Broad Belt or add a short jacket; it would look great with either. If you have a lovely statement necklace, go for it.
6. Last but not least, bags; who doesn’t love bags? Whether it’s a tote bag or a crossbody, that’s one thing each shopaholic has.

Trends are cyclic ˝e interesting part about trends is that they have a cyclical nature, which means that fashion that goes out of style comes back in a˜er a couple of years with a twist. ˝erefore, restyling and recycling could be a great option, especially when you have invested a premium amount in some of those luxury brands. Instead of stocking them, restyle them in various ways, and they could be as trendy and stylish.
Some tips :
- Restyle your skirt from a formal look to evening wear with a fancy o˙ shoulder top instead of shirt.
- Knot your old shirt with shorts.
- Try experimenting with vintage scarves and statement jewelry.
- Use your light-colored half-sleeved shirts as covers for swim wear leaving a few buttons on the open. You could wear your dad’s or brothers too
- Use your dads oversized shirt with a chunky belt as a shirt-dress
Owning Heirlooms pieces have an Emotional Connect Fashion and Lifestyle is not all about shopping, the trendiest styles but it’s about creating your own and having your own identity. You can be di˙erent and that’s what stands out. Growing up, we tend to copy how our parents and relatives dress, trying to emulate their style without even realizing it. ˝at’s when we want to own some of their most cherished pieces. From accessories like scarves and bags to their broaches, stockings and coats. Heirlooms are special. ˝ey have an emotional connect and you would want to own them for life.

he Jaguar F-Pace debuted in 2017 as the historic British automaker’s ÿrst SUV. Now it has the distinction of being Jaguar’s last vehicle with a fully powered gasoline engine as the company transitions to electric vehicles. Eight years on, the supercharged V8-powered SVR remains a superb-looking, aggressive yet graceful compact SUV. It sits low and dramatic with its sculpted hood, menacing black mesh grille, hunched shoulders, and wide track. With optional 22-inch forged alloy wheels, new LED head-
lights, and quad-exhaust tips, it remains wonderful to look at and attracts stares and admiration everywhere. Changes are minimal for these years with standard blacked-out exterior trim and an ebony headliner. Meanwhile, there are two 22-inch wheel packages available.
We were fortunate to evaluate the high-performance F-Pace P575 SVR, powered by a highly tuned supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine under the hood. °is unit generates an impressive
567 horsepower and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends torque to all four wheels. ˜e SVR trim is denoted by blacked-out exterior trim, grille, and badges. Discreet SVR badging on the trunk lid and wheel rims, °ared side air intakes, and aggressive quad exhausts ÿnish the look. Performance is rated at very quick 0-100 km/h in just 4.0 seconds.
˜e F-Pace interior matches the gorgeous exterior with a mix of sublime sportiness, elegance, and comfort. ˜is SUV seats four comfortably and ÿve people at a squeeze. ˜e materials inside the F-Pace SVR are premium as you would expect, while build quality, ÿt, and ÿnish are superb. It is all there—suede, carbon ÿbre, polished metal, and premium cream Windsor leather draping the cabin’s doors, dash, and seats. ˜e sports-themed sculpted seats are heated and ventilated, and decked out in a posh quilted design. ˜e rear cabin is equally as good as the front, with decent enough legroom in the back, although shoulder room is at a premium. ˜e generous 650-litre rear cargo capacity means the F-Pace is practical as well as sporty for everyday driving.
Jaguar has equipped the F-Pace SVR with plenty of technology. All models come standard with a powerful audiophile-quality 12-speaker Meridian audio system and an infotainment system with an 11.4-inch touchscreen display. Navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio and 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot is standard. ˜ere is also full Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support with Google Assistant or Apple Siri augmenting the onboard voice assistant.
˜e 2026 Jaguar F-Pace model comes in 3 trim levels. Canadian pricing ranges from $66,900 to $104,200. ˜e entrylevel, P250 R-Dynamic S model starts at $66,900 for the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. ˜e price for the mid-range P400 R-Dynamic S trim is $76,400. ˜e as-tested most expensive P575 SVR is priced at $104,200. Freight and PDI are $1,950.
˜e F-Pace SVR comes with full safety features, including driver-assistance

On-road dynamics are impressive. ˜ere is agile, quick responding handling, and precise steering. Importantly for such a quick SUV, braking matches performance with fast-acting, responsive, and non- grabbing e˝ectiveness. No downsides in the SVR, but beware the ride is ÿrm on less than great surfaces- a compromise to deliver better handling. Fuel economy with the thirsty V8 is 14.5 L/100 km combined, but this should not be a concern if you can ante up for the SVR’s price.
aids such as standard automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.
On the road, the F-Pace SVR o˝ers an awesomely engaging driving experience. ˜e cool, dedicated exhaust button o˝ers an instant cacophony of the engine valves opening as the engine roars to life. ˜e thrills don’t stop as the instant power delivery from the supercharged engine rockets you with an addictive rush of acceleration. Paired with the 8-speed gearbox, upshi˙s are quick, and the SVR o˝ers three ÿxed drive modes for more modulated performance.
For buyers looking for a more discerning take on a high-performance luxury SUV with distinctive British heritage, the SVR version of the F-Pace is the one to buy. ˜e 2.0L will somehow always leave you hankering for more. Major rivals in this compact luxury segment include the usual German brands that are competent, but also a bit commonplace. ˜e Jaguar does o˝er exclusivity for sure.
To sum up, the Jaguar F-Pace SVR o˝ers a unique look, feel, sound, and tremendous performance from the supercharged V8. Yet it still o˝ers everyday driving practicality. Sadly, V8 gasoline engines are a dying breed, and the F-Pace must be seriously considered if a thrill-inducing luxury performance SUV is a must-have. Wonderful in every way.

“The team’s Captain, Priya Sidhu, shared her thoughts, “Being part of SFC Women’s Soccer since the very beginning has been such an incredible journey. I’m so proud of how far we’ve come and especially of all the new players who joined us this season—your energy, commitment, and talent made a huge impact.”

Empowerment, leadership, and lasting connection are a few words that describe what it means to be a part of a women’s soccer team.
She was only ÿve and a half years old when she put on her soccer boots for the ÿrst time. She scored two goals on her ÿrst day! So excited, she came home and immediately called her grandparents to tell them about her great game. °at day, a spark was lit; the game, teamwork, supportive coaching, and her drive to win would keep drawing her back for years to come.
Similar stories echoed in homes across the region as the girls headed to the park
every week to play soccer. Soccer holds many meanings: from early morning practices to hot chocolate runs before games, to having their parents cheering them from the sidelines, and in some lucky cases, the dads coaching during some of the most critical years of their growth.
°ey are our daughters and granddaughters, our nieces and cousins. Every week, their stories were shared on social media through pictures and comments. Some girls advanced to higher levels earlier in their playing careers, while others moved from team to team, sometimes strategically; most of the time, they just wanted to play with their friends and have
fun. Positive environments were created, and lifelong lessons were taught through the game—skills such as punctuality, work ethic, teamwork, and leadership, among others. °ey all love the game equally, regardless of how they got here.
On May 5th, 2025, during a beautiful sunny Sunday a˛ernoon, the BC Soccer Men’s and Women’s Final games took place at Minoru Park in Richmond, BC. It was a match between Surrey Football Club (SFC) and Comas Valley FC. Both teams ÿnished at the top of their Selects A division standings. Kash Sidhu coached the SFC team with assistant coach Nirmal Sahota. What was special about that day? It
wasn’t just a ÿnal—it was the culmination of years of dedication, growth, and love for the game. °at Sunday a˛ernoon didn’t just symbolize a championship title; it embodied every cold morning practice, every knee covered in turf burn, every pep talk, every tear shed in loss, and joy in victory. But it wasn’t smooth sailing.
SFC found themselves down 1-0 for nearly the entire game. °e pressure was mounting with every passing minute, and the ÿnal whistle loomed closer. Still, the girls didn’t fold. °ey fought. °ey pressed. And in the ÿnal minute, with the clock ticking down and hope hanging by a thread, SFC striker Jessica Sidhu scored. °e bench erupted. °e stands erupted. °e dream was still alive.
With the game tied at 1-1 a˛er regulation, it went to penalty kicks (PKs)—the most nerve-wracking way to decide a match, and Surrey Football Club managed to come out on top. °e players erupted with emotion—a mix of celebration, relief, and pride. Teammates embraced. Coaches raised their arms. And fans in the stands cheered loudly in joy.
Coach Kash Sidhu re˝ected a˛er the
game: “We started slow, but it’s how you ÿnish. You practiced more this year than in the last six years combined—that’s your dedication. °e heat, the ref, the bad turf—you pushed through it all. Some of you wanted to come o˙, but you stayed on for the team. Scoring with a minute le˛ and then ÿnishing in PKs… wow. I’m so proud of all of you.”
°e team’s Captain, Priya Sidhu, shared her thoughts, “Being part of SFC Women’s Soccer since the very beginning has been such an incredible journey. I’m so proud of how far we’ve come and especially of all the new players who joined us this season—your energy, commitment, and talent made a huge impact. Winning the provincial championships was a proud moment that re˝ected all the hard work, resilience, and heart this team put in all season long!”

As the sun started to set on that unforgettable Sunday, one thing was clear—it was more than a win. It was a reminder that the game extends beyond the ÿeld. Soccer has become a tool for empowerment, leadership, and lasting connection.

Soccer isn’t just about the skills of the game. It’s about opportunity, equity, belonging, and positivity. Many girls take di˙erent pathways in and out of soccer, from playing at a higher level to leaving the game, only to return later. °ere is an undeniable love for the game, and it continues to bring these girls back to the ÿeld every week. °eir journeys remind us that it’s never too late to play, and we hope they encourage girls everywhere to give soccer a try.
