The Junior League of Greensboro began a new partnership during the 2021-2022 League year with Church World Service Greensboro (CWSG). CWSG provides comprehensive case management and employment services aimed at empowering newly arrived refugees to build a foundation for long-term self-sufficiency and success in the United States. One service that CWSG provides is basic needs support by providing permanent housing for all refugees upon arrival to Greensboro.

Through this partnership, the JLG served as a welcome team and committed to setting up four homes for refugee families. The home setup included providing all furniture, mattresses, linens, kitchenware, toiletries, and other basic household items. In addition to the home setup, the welcome team also provided hot meals to the families upon arrival to PTI airport and a fully stocked pantry and refrigerator upon move-in to their new home. The welcome team committee was able to set up a safe and welcoming home for the following families: • A family of six that consisted of a mom, dad, uncle and three children (ages 16, 19, 20) who are originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (two, two-bedroom apartments) • A family of five that consisted of a grandmother and her four grandchildren (ages 8, 11, 13, 21) who are originally from Sudan (two-bedroom apartment) • A family of seven that consisted of a mom, dad and five children (ages 5, 10, 11, 12, 13) who are originally from Iraq (three-bedroom single family home) Providing homes and services to newly arrived families is a community effort. We thank all who have contributed their time and resources to this initiative.
