The Comeback Is Greater Than The Setback

The Bargain Box has had one of its best years to date, even in the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic. The 2021-2022 League year began with a fashion show put on by our amazing summer interns. After multiple weeks of planning, our summer interns hosted the first-ever Bargain Box fashion show on July 25th. The interns utilized the clothing in the store to come up with different outfits that showcased our available pieces. The show was a great success, and everyone who attended had a blast.

During the fall, the momentum didn’t slow down. On August 15th, we had our annual Fall Turnstock. Thanks to the Bargain Box committee and a fantastic group of volunteers, we had another flawless turnstock and our most successful preview sale to date. Volunteers came together to prepare the store for the event. To our surprise, customers were already forming a line outside at 4pm, despite the rain, nearly two hours before the event. In just a couple of hours, we sold $7,514 worth of merchandise, which was a record. We could not have done this without Randall, the Bargain Box Manager, and her amazing staff, volunteers, and all of the customers who came out and shopped.

November was upon us before we knew it. This month we had our annual Christmas Open House, which, yet again, was our most successful sale to-date, with a profit of $2,121. Customers were waiting outside at 4pm to purchase all of their Christmas goodies. The holiday excitement continued with our annual visit from Santa on December 18th. The kids had a blast hearing Santa’s stories and taking photos with him. In the spring, we were excited to begin our 75th anniversary year. As of 2022, the Bargain Box has been in operation for 75 years and remains the League’s longest ongoing fundraiser. To celebrate, we hosted our Spring Turnstock on February 20th. There were a lot of amazing spring clothes and accessories, and we thank the volunteers and customers who joined us.

Finally, we have been excited to continue our partnership with the Women’s Resource Center throughout the year, which has been ongoing since 1999. Through our partnership, we provide $30,000-worth in vouchers to local women each year. These vouchers assist families in making a fresh start, having clothes for work, and finding high-quality clothing at affordable prices.

The Bargain Box has had a successful financial year thus far, and hopes to continue our success for years to come. As we continue celebrating our 75th anniversary in 2022, be on the lookout for a plethora of awesome sales and fun ways to celebrate.

As always, thank you for your continued time and support of the League’s longest ongoing fundraiser.
