The Junior League of Greensboro’s Kids in the Kitchen (KITK) initiative is one of the many ways that our League members seek to make a difference in the Greensboro community. Children’s health and wellness has always been a significant focus of the JLG’s as it is important to educate kids and their parents on the importance of healthy eating habits in order to combat childhood obesity and the associated health risks.

Kids in the Kitchen provides lessons and demonstrations around the preparation of healthy meals and snacks in partnership with local organizations. The interactive snack activities include quality and cost-efficient ingredients for all families, and the inperson sessions and portable snack bags are accompanied by educational materials and tips for making smarter eating choices.

As in-person events resumed in the fall, the KITK team partnered with the Greensboro Boys and Girls Club and the JLG’s annual Touch-A-Truck event. We provided healthy, make-your-own snack bags and had a fun learning activity related to the snack. In the spring, we partnered with Greensboro Parks and Recreation for interactive events on Saturdays in LeBauer Park. These events were targeted toward elementary-age children and approximately 80 children attended each event. Two of the favorite snacks served at these sessions were “Make Your Own Trail Mix” and “Butterfly Snack Bags.”

Kids in the Kitchen had a great year getting out in the Greensboro community with exciting and innovative snack ideas. We look forward to growing our events, our reach and our partnerships in the next year!
