The Junior League of Greensboro has been fortunate to partner with The Kellin Foundation this year. The Kellin Foundation is a nonprofit organization that aims to build resilient children, families, and adults through behavioral health services, victim advocacy, and community outreach. Within the Kellin Foundation is the Kellin Kids program, which encourages kids to discover their passions and utilize their talents to make a difference in their community.

As community partners, JLG has provided financial and volunteer assistance for Kellin Kids events. Our first opportunity to work with the Kellin Foundation was at a training session on trauma and toxic stress, their impact on our lives, and how to mitigate these impacts. We kicked off the school year with “Back to School Rocks,” an event aimed at helping kids prepare for a successful school year. We practiced yoga, painted inspirational rocks, and made “calm-down” boxes complete with coloring books, jump ropes, and pop-it toys. Kellin Kids hosted a pumpkin painting table at Touch-A-Truck that was such a hit that we quickly ran out of our 100+ pumpkins. Lastly, we helped build a Little Library to reside in front of The Kellin Foundation. The kids had a great time putting the library together and painting it however they pleased. While the pandemic has neccessitated us to adapt with how we would normally operate, we are looking forward to seeing our partnership with Kellin Kids grow in the future.
