Helping Homeowners in Need

We were excited to welcome Community Housing Solutions (CHS) as one of our community partners again this year. CHS provides home repairs to homeowners who fall below specific income levels to make their homes warmer, drier, and safer. They also team up with Cone Health for the Aging Gracefully program to improve safety and mobility at home, allowing homeowners to safely stay in their homes longer. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome, and no experience is required. The knowledgeable CHS staff are always present to teach and encourage volunteers to try something new. It’s a great way to help members of our community and maybe even learn some new skills along the way. I’ve been able to do some repairs on my own home from what I learned volunteering with CHS.

We completed five projects with CHS during the 2021-2022 League year. Projects included building accessibility ramps, painting, flooring replacement and repairs, porch railings and many other home repairs. In November 2021 we worked on one of CHS’s biggest projects. We had a large group participate to begin major renovations for a homeowner who is part of the Aging Gracefully program. We cleaned up landscaping, cleared out everything inside the home, ripped up flooring, demoed the bathroom, painted, and began repairs to the outside of the home. This project continued for another five weeks with several groups around Greensboro volunteering. The goal was to get Ms. Rudd back home by Christmas; mission accomplished!

We are looking forward to helping more homeowners in our community have warmer, drier, and safer homes in 2022 and 2023!
