Injuries to key players again hampered Rec and for the third game in a row they were reliant on a sprinkling of youth team players and all can be pleased with their performances.

Birthday boy Ash Boyt then drove over the bar from Tom Cooper’s pass and Jake Kelly won a free-kick on the edge of the area, which resulted in Todd Coombs’ effort deflected away for a corner. The lead could have been extended with Smith and Kelly both going close, HT 2-0. Balti blazed an early second half free-kick high over, before Edwards set Cooper free, in the box, with his low cross gathered by the keeper.

Smith crashed a shot against the bar and was then unlucky when his chip over the keeper seemed to cross the line, but was not given. Rec needed a third goal and as Balti ventured forward Ewan Dacre and Dave Legg stood firm, in defence.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men, for a second yellow card offence and soon after, in the 83rd minute Rec settled the issue. A defence splitting pass by Joe Swallow found CARL EDWARDS, who coolly slotted past the visiting keeper, for his 14th goal of the season and clinch the points for Rec. Grant Cormack, on his return from injury, headed inches over, from a corner and Edwards was denied a hat-trick, right at the end, by a fine save from the Balti goalkeeper.

WESTLAND SPORTS 5 CORFE CASTLE 1 Westlands got their first Jewson Dorset Premier Football League win of 2022 with a 5-1 victory over Corfe Castle at Alvington but it was not plain sailing as Corfe didn’t look like a team languishing at the foot of the table as they passed the ball around neatly in contrast to the home side who continually gave the ball away.

It was Mark Cuff, the Westlands goalie who was the busier keeper and he made several good saves to keep the visitors at bay. In the 38th minute though he was beaten when Corfe’s RYAN CATTANO glanced a neat header into the far corner to put the visitors in front.

That was the half time score with Westlands’s dismal start to the new year seemingly continuing. The second half however saw a massive turn around as Sports upped the pace and began to pass the ball around with some purpose.

Key to this improvement was the introduction of Jamie Green to the midfield allowing Duncan McCabe to push further forward. In the 61st minute a lovely passing move opened up the Corfe defence and a Duncan McCabe shot came off the post, the rebound fell to Dan Ewens who drove into the box and was tripped for a penalty.

BOURNEMOUTH SPORTS 2 POOLE BOROUGH 0 Bournemouth Sports made it 3 wins in a row, this time against a very resilient Poole Borough side at Chapel Gate in the Jewson Dorset Premier Football League.

Sports took the lead early on in the 10th Minute when ETHAN FISHLOCK lobbed the Borough Goalkeeper from fully 20 yards out to put himself in contention for Bournemouth Sports goal of the season award.

DPL leading Goal scorer, JACK VOISEY then added a second, and his 33rd goal of the season, on 16 minutes heading home from a corner delivered by Awwal Abubakar. Surely, to many in attendance, Sports would expect to go on and add more goals.

However, despite dominating large periods of the first half Sports failed to create any real significant chances and Poole Borough had themselves a purple patch towards the end of the half in terms of possession, HT 2-0.

The second half was somewhat of an anti-climax as Poole Borough set out to frustrate Sports and in doing so, showed great attitude, character and work rate to achieve just that. Sports keeper Marc Davies had a reasonably quiet afternoon with little to do.

At the other end Sports looked most likely to score from PHIL ORMROD blasted the spot kick into the net to the many set plays they had during the second half, but level the score at 1-1. Two minutes later a Duncan nothing was to come from any of them and the game McCabe corner was headed into the roof of the net by fizzled out with a 2-0 win.

SWANAGE T&H 4 SHAFTESBURY RES 0 Sports were rampant now and in the 70th minute a Swanage returned to winning ways with a comfortable goalmouth scramble saw STEVE ORMROD bundle the 4-0 win against Shaftesbury Town Reserves at Day’s ball in to make it 3-1.

The one-way traffic continued and when Finlay Cauldwell slipped in DUNCAN McCABE in the 82nd minute, he ran through and drilled the ball into the far corner for the fourth goal.

And finally, in the 87th minute an identical move saw Phil Ormrod put DUNCAN McCABE through and he again coolly finished in the far corner. That completed the scoring with a 5-1 win for Westlands although it was not as straight forward as the score may suggest.

An entertaining game was helped by some sensible refereeing by Terry Oldrid who kept play moving and always looked in control of proceedings.

CHARLIE BRASSINGTON produced the perfect start after 5 minutes with a vicious shot from 25 yards to put his side ahead, this seemed to install confidence into the team and Rowan Robinson went close following good work from Cody Moore.

Swans doubled their lead when man of the moment CHARLIE BRASSINGTON hit a dream of a free kick in off the post from fully 35 yards to complete his brace.

Ben Hodder produced a great save to maintain the goalkeeper and the ball ended up in the net. Wareham clean sheet just before the break, HT 3-0. complained for a foul but the referee gave the goal and the Bulls were in front.

Swanage played with plenty of confidence and created more chances in the second half with Paul Best going Holt then continued to press but were unable to find close and Jake Streams hit the side netting after cleverly the second goal. BLANDFORD UTD 2 BRIDPORT RES 3 HOLT UTD 1 WAREHAM RANGERS 1 This week the Royals welcomed Bridport Reserves in Holt United and Wareham who at opposite ends of the Jewson Dorset Premier Football League match up the league met at Petersham Lane. The start to the at Park Road with the hosts looking for their 1st win in game was very untidy with Holt keeping the ball but 4 games.

There was very little football played with the game being stopped regularly by niggly fouls. Holt didn’t create much at all and although they had a few chances to score, their finishing was very poor.

Blandford came out the blocks sharp in the 2nd half and MARK FORD, again, was played through, this time he rounded the keeper and from a tight angle, squeezed the ball home to put the hosts in front. Their lead was short lived as just 1 minute later Bridport responded and scored a decent equaliser courtesy of KRIS RADIVOSKA. As the game wore on the hosts felt they should have had another penalty but their claims were waved away, it stayed 2-2 until the 85th minute when Bridport striker JAMES COX (pictured number 11) buried an unsavable shot excellently into the far corner to secure the 3 points for the visitors. All in all, the right team won on the day.

Almost instantly the Hammers found themselves in more trouble when the Sturminster Newton fullback produced a brilliant ball into the box which found the head of WILL GUPPY to make it 0-3. Sturminster Newton kept the pressure on the home side however the Hammers slowly started to come into the game more posing a threat of their own.

PORTLAND UTD RES 1 SHERBORNE TOWN RES 3 Sherborne Reserves travelled to Portland Utd Reserves, who were on the back of a very impressive win last time out against Westlands, for this Jewson Dorset Premier Football League Clash of the Reserves.

From this point onwards the Hammers pilled the pressure onto their visitors creating plenty of chances and their reward came in the 77th minute when a defensive error from the away side meant KAI MCCROW found himself through on goal, and he slotted home past Theo Crane in the Newton goal.

In the second half, Sherborne quickly added a third after Elliot Mann cleared smartly down the line to Tom Beeson who took the ball in his stride before beating his man on the wing and crossing a perfect ball into the box for DARREN SHEARER to bundle in, 3-0 to the “Zebras” with 54 minutes played.

A few minutes later the Hammers were attacking again and there were strong shouts for a penalty when Rich Galeg was taken out as he went to latch on to a ball 6 yards out however the referee, again, did not award the penalty.

Portland, to their credit, managed to get one back through a fine finish from TOBY DIAZ on 72 minutes, however that was as good as it got for the hosts as Sherborne managed to hold out comfortably and win 3-1, so continuing their 9-game unbeaten streak.
