city: ‘Fallout’ is back with a radioactive new season
Not even a nuclear blast can silence the siren song of the once-whizzing slot machines on the strip in Sin City. A woman, her dog and a ghoul trek across the Mojave wasteland toward New Vegas in the much-anticipated second season of “Fallout,” premiering Wednesday, Dec. 17, on Prime Video. The eight-episode season drops new installments weekly.
Ella Purnell (“Yellowjackets”) returns as Lucy, a former luxury Vault-Tec dweller who got a crash course in survival during the first season of “Fallout.” After Lucy escaped the underground community she was raised in, she was forced to learn how to live on the post-apocalyptic surface. In search of the reason behind the attack on her vault that drove her outside, Lucy took her endless positivity and naiveté into a toxic, cynical world two centuries deep into a nuclear holocaust.
On the surface, Lucy encountered the Ghoul (Walton Goggins, “The White Lotus”), a foeturned-friend whose disillusioned worldview broke her spirit as a courtesy. Maximus (Aaron Moten, “Next”), an armored squire of the Brotherhood of Steel, also found Lucy in the wasteland. While Maximus was just a cog in the machine of the Brotherhood at the beginning, a relatively routine mission gone wrong put him on Lucy and the Ghoul’s path and revealed the complexities of the world he previously thought was simple.
This season, Lucy and the Ghoul trace the path of her father, Hank (Kyle MacLachlan, “The Lowdown”), across the desert with man’s best friend, CX404. Having escaped the sinking ship of Los Angeles in an armored suit in the Season 1 finale, Hank took off toward the ruins of Las Vegas, where his daughter and her companions will fight to find him in the upcoming season. With the vision of her father as the ultimate benevolent leader shattered, Lucy must pick herself up and try to hold him accountable. Maximus, now a knighted member of the Brotherhood, must return to the life he learned too much about to truly believe in.
With lots of time to get to know each other on their way to Las Vegas, the Ghoul asks Lucy in the upcoming season’s trailer what exactly she plans to do once they find her father in Sin City. “I’m gonna bring him to justice. So people know that how they conduct themselves matters, and they don’t give up hope.” Eternally optimistic, even in the face of monsters and badlands, Lucy is determined to live by the ideals she was raised on, even if they were a facade.
Delightfully gruesome creatures molded by nuclear fallout continue to reveal themselves this season. Creepy crawlies have grown exponentially larger than what we’re familiar with — a tarantula spanning the width of a set of double doors devours a cat-sized scorpion in the trailer — and characters are mutating before our very eyes.
Maximus’ Brotherhood companion Thaddeus (Johnny Pemberton, “Superstore”) is growing teeth from his collarbone after ingesting a life-saving radioactive elixir last season. Finally, it wouldn’t be Vegas without The King. A roving gang of undead Elvis Presley impersonators still occupy the strip and make trouble for Lucy in the trailer.
Returning this season are Moises Arias (“The King of Staten Island,” 2020) as Lucy’s brother, Norm, still a member of the vault; and Frances Turner (“The Boys”) as Barb, a Vault-Tec executive and wife of the Ghoul in his former human life before the Great War of 2077, when he was Hollywood actor and spokesperson Cooper Howard.
New cast member Justin Theroux (“Running Point”) joins the series this season as Robert House, revealed in the teaser trailer in a scene before the war, where he’s intimidating Cooper from the pilot’s seat of his luxurious Las Vegas office-meets-command center. Macaulay Culkin (“The Righteous Gemstones”) also joins the cast in a yet-unnamed role in the upcoming season.
Culkin made a brief appearance in the trailer, but aside from what video game fans can interpret from his armored costuming, there’s no official word on his character yet. New cast member Kumail Nanjiani (“Only Murders in the Building”) also popped up in the trailer, making a big entrance and telling members of the Brotherhood gathered in an aircraft hangar, “I understand we’re discussing a civil war. I must not have gotten my invitation.”
“Fallout” is inspired by one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. This season uses the setting of the franchise’s fourth mainline release, 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas. The series was co-created by Graham Wagner (“Silicon Valley”) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider,” 2018). The series is executive produced alongside Wagner and Robertson-Dworet by Jonathan Nolan (“Westworld”), Lisa Joy (“Burn Notice”) and Athena Wickham (“Person of Interest”) for Kilter Films, who also serve as showrunners.
Join the “Fallout” gang in the end of times when the new season premieres Wednesday, Dec. 17, on Prime Video. New episodes drop on the streamer weekly with its season finale available to watch Wednesday, Feb. 4.

Two house-switchers celebrate ‘The Holiday’
A hugely popular romantic comedy at any time of year — but especially now — writer-director Nancy Meyers’ 2006 film “The Holiday” gets an AMC showing on Monday, Dec. 15. Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz star as strangers who both suffer disappointments in love just before Christmas, prompting them to get away by using an Internet site to trade houses for a limited time period ... sending Diaz’s character Amanda to an English cottage, while Winslet’s character Iris enjoys a lavish Los Angeles residence. While getting to know a senior-citizen screenwriter neighbor (a wonderful Eli Wallach), Iris makes a connection with a maker of movie music (Jack Black, applying his humorously subversive image smartly), while Amanda becomes involved with Iris’s soft-hearted brother (a charming Jude Law). As disparate as the main performers are, they work marvelously in their various combinations, making this a perfect entry in the Meyers catalog that includes such other audience favorites as “Something’s Gotta Give” (2003) and “It’s Complicated” (2009). Edward Burns and Rufus Sewell also have roles here, and there’s a great, ultra-brief cameo by an Oscar-winning screen legend in a video-store scene.
“Are You Sure?!” - Season 2, New Episodes (Dec. 17)
With eight brand-new episodes, this second season returns to find Jimin and Jungkook of the K-pop band “BTS” preparing for their next big adventure. This time around, the duo heads from the mountains of Switzerland to the beaches of Da Nang, Vietnam, braving highs, lows and a whole lot of laughs along the way.
more retro rewinds
“The Dick Van Dyke Show” (Catchy Comedy, Sunday, Dec. 14): The award-winning 1960s sitcom concludes a weekend “Binge” marathon celebrating Van Dyke’s 100th birthday. Created and produced by Carl Reiner — who originally had come up with the concept for a show that he intended to star in himself — the series casts Van Dyke as family man and TV-variety writer Rob Petrie, who has a loving wife (Mary Tyler Moore) and son (Larry Matthews) at home, and wisecracking colleagues (Rose Marie, Morey Amsterdam) at work.
“The Incredible Mr. Limpet” (Turner Classic Movies, Monday, Dec. 15): Though he had done some movie work earlier, Don Knotts got his first leading role in a film with this entertaining 1964 fantasy that turns his character into an animated fish. Henry Limpet is a meek World War II-era bookkeeper who falls into the water at Coney Island, and though others presume he has perished, he actually has transformed (as shown in a cleverly staged sequence) into the Knotts-resembling porpoise who finds purpose as a guide for U.S. Navy officers against German U-boats. Carole Cook and Jack Weston also are in the human cast.

“Goodbye June” (Netflix — Dec. 24, Movie Premiere) Taking place just before Christmas, Kate Winslet’s directorial debut follows a family as an unexpected turn in their mother’s (Helen Mirren) health thrusts four adult siblings and their exasperating father (Timothy Spall) into chaos as they navigate messy family dynamics in the face of potential loss. But their quick-witted mother, June, orchestrates her decline on her own terms — with biting humor, blunt honesty and a lot of love. Winslet, Andrea Riseborough, Johnny Flynn and Toni Collette also star.

Rams visit Seahawks in key Week 16 matchup
The 2025-26 NFL season enters Week 16 with another blockbuster matchup lined up as the Los Angeles Rams try to solidify their position in the NFC playoff race when they head to Seattle to take on the Seahawks at Lumen Field. Kickoff airs live on Prime Video.
At the heart of the Los Angeles Rams’ stellar play this season has been quarterback Matthew Stafford, who has quietly flown under the radar, turning 2025 into an impressive campaign.
Stafford enters the game leading all quarterbacks with 27 touchdowns, while throwing only two interceptions, completing 66 per cent of his passes and posting a 68.7 QBR rating. As impressive as he’s been, some would argue his execution has been more impressive. Stafford has racked up multiple games this season having thrown for four touchdowns or more, making him a legitimate candidate for MVP this year.
Meanwhile, for the Seahawks, they’ll be looking for redemption after falling to the Rams in their first meeting, 21-19. Entering the matchup, they’ll be looking to keep the Rams offense at bay as the Seahawks have cemented themselves as defensive juggernauts, ranking among the league’s toughest, particularly against the run, allowing just 3.8 yards per carry so far this season.
Week 16 isn’t just any game for the Rams — it’s the kind of matchup that could define the rest of their season. With veteran leadership and a balanced offense, the Rams are poised to make a serious statement in what could be one of the most crucial late-season games.
Fans can catch all the action live Thursday, Dec. 18, as Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams head to Seattle to take on the Seahawks at Lumen Field in what is turning out to be one of the most anticipated games of the year.
Full name: John Matthew Stafford
Birthdate: Feb. 7, 1988 (37)
Birthplace: Tampa, Florida
Height/weight: 6-3/214 pounds Team(s): Los Angeles Rams (2021-present), Detroit Lions (20092020)
Honors and achievements: Super Bowl Champion (LVI), NFL Comeback Player of the Year (2011), 2x Pro Bowl (2019, 2023)
Kevin Costner of “Kevin Costner Presents: The First Christmas” on ABC: Though he wasn’t seen in full in the finished film, he was cast as Alex — the friend who was mourned by the other central characters — in the 1983 movie “The Big Chill.”
Lyndsy Fonseca of “Single on the 25th” on Hallmark Channel and W Network: She is married to actor Noah Bean, who was among her co-stars on the CW series “Nikita” (2010-13), and they have two daughters.
“We’ve got a bunch of crazy individuals in this thing and I think people like to watch characters who are full-of themselves. It’s a very honest show. It’s honest in its humor, its drama, its emotion, its danger and its absurdity. Whatever you are into, it goes full tilt, and I think people respond to that.”Billy Bob Thornton of “Landman” in a comment with Forbes.
“It’s going to be a lot bigger, a lot more epic, a lot wetter. I haven’t been dry in a year or two. I mean, I love what I do, but this sucks. All of my clothes are constantly soaking wet all the time.” - Aryan Simhadri of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” speaking with Entertainment Weekly.
Solution on page 18.
“It’s every day, whether it’s going to a table read or just rehearsing or when we’re filming, but especially when we’re doing the live performance, it’s just very surreal. I don’t think me being in awe will ever stop. Growing up watching him [Tim Allen] and being such a big fan of all his movies, and it’s surreal. Let’s just put it that way, and it’s been so much fun.” - Seann William Scott of “Shifting Gears” in an interview with TV Insider.
