Get cozy with Hallmark holiday movies, including ‘An Alpine Holiday’

Warm up from the chill outside with cozy new holiday programs. ‘Tis the season for Hallmark’s latest set of seasonal love stories on Hallmark, including “An Alpine Holiday,” airing Thursday, Dec. 4, and “Twelve Dates ‘Til Christmas,” premiering the next day, Friday, Dec. 5. Look for your seasonal favorites to stream on Hallmark+ post-broadcast.

The Hallmark festivities began all the way back in the middle of October, with new and favorite movies and series kicking off the holiday season early. Whether you haul out the decorations at the first sign of wintery weather or wait until Dec. 1, Hallmark has been ready to help set the holiday mood with near-daily premieres of seasonal programming.

The charm of the holiday season is turned up to the max with a destination celebration in a quaint village at the base of a mountain. In “An Alpine Holiday,” once-estranged sisters are brought together by their grandmother’s last wish. Faith (Ashley Williams, “The Jim Gaffigan Show”) and Kelly (Laci J Mailey, “Chesapeake Shores”) reunite in the frosty French Alps, sent there to recreate the trip of their grandmother’s life: her first vacation with the sisters’ grandfather.

Faith and Kelly repair their relationship while enjoying everything their alpine adventure has to offer. Helping the two experience their trip to the fullest is their handsome guide, Frederic (Julien Marlon Samani, “Tiny Beautiful Things”). Frederic and Kelly feel a spark on the mountain, making the voyage even more magical.

Next in the “Countdown to Christmas” lineup is a the first-ever holiday rom-com series from Hallmark, taking viewers across the pond. “Arrested Development” and “Parenthood” actress Mae Whitman stars as Kate in “Twelve Dates ‘Til Christmas.” Kate is successful in her career and surrounded by family and friends, living in the small town of Blexford, England.

Though Kate is busy with her Saville Row textile design business and caring for her father Mac (Nathaniel Parker, “The Vineyard”), who is on the mend from a motorbike accident, in her spare time, she feels like she is in a rut. This is where Kate’s best friend, Laura (Lucy Eaton, “Staged”), steps in.

Seeing that her friend could use something to shake up her life, Laura signs Kate up for a holiday-themed matchmaking program, The 12 Dates of Christmas. With the help of Laura and their longtime friend Callum (Julian Morris, “Little Women”), Kate sets out on dates full of yuletide cheer, only to meet a match — a dashing dater portrayed by Toby Sandeman (“The Game”).

Complicating this new development is a visit from Kate’s mother. Delilah (Mary McDonnell, “The Fall of the House of Usher”), who divorced Mac long ago in favor of a life spent globetrotting, pays a surprise holiday visit to her estranged family. Meanwhile, homebody Mac may have just met someone who gives him a reason to get out of the house in a local widow named Evelyn (Jane Seymour, “Harry Wild”).

New episodes of the six-part miniseries air two at a time on Fridays, with the finale of “Twelve Dates ‘Til Christmas” airing Friday, Dec. 19.

Get into the holiday spirit with two Hallmark originals — “An Alpine Holiday,” airing Thursday, Dec. 4, and the “Twelve Dates ‘Til Christmas” series premiere, airing Friday, Dec. 5 — on Hallmark.

The STREAM Scene

“The Merchants of Joy” (Dec. 1)

In the city that never sleeps, five families hustle each winter to turn sidewalks into holiday outposts. The Merchants of Joy follows these Christmas die-hards as they source, sell, and safeguard a family tradition at risk. It’s a warm, grounded portrait of pride, grit, and the joy they bring—one tree, one customer, one season at a time.

“The Good Witch of Christmas” (Nov. 30)

When Santa Claus (Bruce McGuire) gets in an accident and all of his reindeer get scared off, there’s only one person he can call: the Christmas Witch (Cristina Moglia). But, unbeknownst to Santa, the Christmas Witch has accidentally landed in front of siblings Olivia (Mia McGovern Zaini) and Liam’s (Lorenzo McGovern Zaini) house and completely lost her memory. Liam, Olivia, Frank (Tom Arnold) and Tony (William Baldwin) try to find answers for the Witch in the book “Puffins,” but will the Puffins help the Witch remember that she needs to go help Santa in enough time to save Christmas?

“Troll 2” (Dec. 1)

When a dangerous new troll is awakened, unleashing devastation across Norway, beloved adventurers Nora (Ine Marie Wilmann), Andreas (Kim Falck) and Captain Kris (Mads Sjogard Pettersen) are thrust into their most perilous mission yet. To stop the creature’s ruthless rampage, they must enlist new allies and delve into the country’s ancient history, searching for answers. As the clock ticks and the troll’s path of destruction grows wider, our heroes face impossible odds in their fight to save their homeland from falling into darkness.

Macaulay Culkin is ‘Home Alone’ again

It’s a sure sign that the holiday season is here again when young Kevin McAllister (played by Macaulay Culkin, in the role that propelled him to stardom) defends his house against a couple of thieves (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern) in “Home Alone,” the 1990 comedy movie that gets an FX showing on Sunday, Nov. 30 — then more telecasts on Freeform on Monday, Dec. 1, Tuesday, Dec. 2, Thursday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 6. Accidentally left behind by his family when they head from their Chicago-area residence for Paris, Kevin is quite resourceful in foiling the so-called “Wet Bandits,” but there’s also a lot of heart to the tale (written by producer John Hughes) as Kevin genuinely misses his relatives as Christmas draws nearer.

Catherine O’Hara and John Heard portray Kevin’s parents, and Macaulay’s brother Kieran (the winner of many awards for “Succession” and “A Real Pain” more recently) and John Candy also appear. It’s interesting to note that Pesci was playing crime for laughs here within weeks of his approaching the subject much differently in “Goodfellas,” which earned him an Oscar. Chris Columbus directed this picture as well as the 1992 sequel “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” (also written by Hughes), which follows immediately after all of these showings.

“Little Angel” - Season 7 (Nov. 30)

In this musical animated series geared towards pre-schoolers, kids are invited to join in on the fun as Baby John and his friends learn how to share their toys on the playground, avoid cuts, bruises and bumps, and how to tackle tasks all by themselves. Each and every episode is brought to life with upbeat music kids (and parents alike) are sure to love.

more retro rewinds

“Total Recall” (Paramount+, streaming; MGM+ Marquee, Sunday, Nov. 30): Arnold Schwarzenegger inherits another man’s mind in director Paul Verhoeven’s wild, inventive 1990 sci-fi adventure, based on a Philip K. Dick story, The central character is a construction worker who undergoes a procedure that gives him the memory of a secret agent on Mars, where he finds himself pursued by enemies ... even some people he thought were his closest acquaintances. Sharon Stone, Rachel Ticotin, Michael Ironside and Ronny Cox also star, and Jerry Goldsmith’s richly orchestral music score is great. The picture was remade in 2012 with Colin Farrell in the lead role.

“Forever, Darling“ (Turner Classic Movies, Thursday, Dec. 4): With the huge TV success they had with “I Love Lucy,” Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz –who had met on an earlier film – had opportunities to do some movie work together, encompassing this 1956 fantasy-comedy. They play spouses whose marriage is strained by the husband’s workload, and the wife gets assistance from her guardian angel (James Mason) in trying to fix the situation. The mates go camping, but the results could drive them even farther apart; the cast also includes two later sitcom fixtures, Natalie Schafer (“Gilligan’s Island”) and Nancy Kulp (“The Beverly Hillbillies’).

Norris, McLaren aim for late season statement at Lusail Circuit

The 2025 Qatar Grand Prix returns to the calendar at Lusail International Circuit for the season’s penultimate sprint race and grand prix weekend. The race is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 30, with all practices, qualifiers and race day airing live on ESPN.

The 2025 Formula One season has been exhilarating, with this year’s championship fight tightening as McLaren’s Lando Norris holds a slight edge over teammate Oscar Piastri for top spot in the drivers’ standings. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen continues chasing third place, making for a thrilling three-way duel between some of F1’s best.

This season, McLaren’s form has been the dominating headlines all year. Both Norris and Piastri have produced consistent wins and podiums for a team that’s hungry to win it all. Entering Lusail, Norris will be full of confidence as 2025 has been by far his most consistent and impressive season statistically producing six grand prix victories, 16 podiums and only two retirements, helping McLaren remain in top form all season long. With Piastri sitting right behind Norris in the standings, any mistake he makes will come with scrutiny. However, if he can leave Qatar with a victory, that could give him the psychological advantage heading into the season’s final races.

Around the paddock, teams such as Red Bull and Mercedes will continue to push and exploit any weakness they can find, but this season, McLaren has undeniably found the upper hand more often than not against its competitors.

“I’ve been on a bunch of shows that have ended sometimes by our lights and sometimes by the decision of other people. And that’s just the nature of show business. You can’t worry about that. You got to be a big boy about that. But I think we’re the first number one show to ever get canceled.” - Stephen Colbert of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” in an interview with GQ.

Michael Caine, seen recently on “The Great Escaper on Masterpiece” on PBS: He was absent from the Oscar ceremony at which he won his first Oscar, for “Hannah and Her Sisters” (1986), since he couldn’t get away from filming “Jaws: The Revenge” (1987).

Danielle Panabaker, seen recently in “Second Guessing Fate” on The CW: During her run as Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost on the 2014-23 CW series “The Flash,” she also directed five episodes of the show.

“I think everyone was pretty worried, honestly. The way that ‘Game of Thrones’ got torn to shreds in that final season, we’re all walking into this going, ‘We hope to not have that kind of thing happen.’ But then we read the scripts. We knew that it was something special.” - Finn Wolfhard of “Stranger Things” speaking with Time Magazine.

Solution on page 18.

“Being on this show for nine seasons now, I have learned not to let anything surprise me. So when I saw that [going to space], I was like, ‘That tracks,’ especially given what’s happening in the real world. It didn’t strike me as being out of left field. People are taking trips to space as regularly as they’re running to Target.” - Aisha Hinds of “9-1-1” in an interview with TVLine.
