Watchers of the supernatural keep peace in ‘Talamasca’ series
October has arrived. Complete with hefty pumpkins, crisp apples, cool breezes and a colorful, swishing carpet of fallen leaves, it’s easy to see why so many people are enamored with “spooky season.” On AMC, however, spooky season never really ends, with shows such as “Interview with the Vampire” and “Mayfair Witches” available to watch year-round.
Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe, which so far includes the two series listed above (each of which currently holds two seasons), expands Sunday, Oct. 26, when “Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order” premieres on AMC and the affiliated AMC+ streaming service. Focused on the titular society of watchers, the six-episode series follows members of the Talamasca as they keep a close eye on supernatural beings and try to contain their misdeeds around the world.
Starring Nicholas Denton (“Dangerous Liaisons”) as leading man Guy Anatole, who “on the cusp of graduating law school, [is] approached by a representative of the Talamasca” for the purposes of recruitment, says AMC.
“When Guy learns that the Talamasca has been tracking him since his childhood,” the AMC press description continues, “he falls headlong into a world of secret agents and immortal beings who, up to now, have maintained a fragile balance with the mortal world.”
The Talamasca was first introduced to Rice readers in the author’s 1988 novel, “Queen of the Damned,” which was subsequently adapted into a film of the same name starring late R&B princess Aaliyah (“Romeo Must Die,” 2000) in 2002. Reportedly founded in 758 CE (according to “The Vampire Book: The Encyclopedia of the Undead” by J. Gordon Melton), the fictional society has “documented a wide variety of phenomena, including vampires” in an “effort to more empirically understand the supernatural world” (per Becket’s 2018 compendium “Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles: An Alphabettery”). As such, the organization has appeared in several of Rice’s novels, beginning in the late ‘80s.
In the AMC series, the New York City Motherhouse of the Talamasca is led by the cold and calculating Helen, as portrayed by Oscar, BAFTA, Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Elizabeth McGovern (“Downton Abbey”). A “seasoned veteran of the Talamasca,” Helen is a major part of Guy’s recruitment and training while she oversees other members of the group and maintains an acceptable level of order and secrecy.
William Fichtner (“Crash,” 2004), meanwhile, portrays Jasper, “a mysterious American who has quietly assumed control and influence over the Talamasca’s London Motherhouse,” thus indicating that the series plans to take viewers on a journey around the globe, visiting old familiar faces in the Immortal Universe while introducing a few new ones.
Among the new additions to the AMC television franchise are Olive (Maisie Richardson-Sellers, “Nine Perfect Strangers”), a “beguiling and ambitious agent of the Talamasca”; Doris (Celine Buckens, “Warrior”), a strong-willed, old soul who “lives with a coven of witches on a houseboat”; and Burton (Jason Schwartzman, “Rushmore,” 1998), a “charming, rakish vampire” who leads a very elite Upper West Side existence. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of an underground society of watchers when “Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order” premieres Sunday, Oct. 26, on AMC and AMC+. For those who simply cannot wait, why not get a head start on your research? Your secure agent “command center” awaits at Talamasca.

“Nightmares of Nature” (Oct. 28)
Chilling tales of survival unfurl in this documentary series that captures the drama, danger and dark beauty of nature from the perspective of its prey.
“Mo Amer: Wild World” (Oct. 28)
Mo Amer returns for his third Netflix stand-up special. In this timely and fiercely honest hour, the comedian celebrates his Palestinian heritage, relives the birth of his son, takes aim at the TSA and much more.
“Son of a Donkey” (Oct. 30)
In this oddball buddy comedy, Theo (Theodore Saidden) leaves home, eager to embrace adulthood, when a road rage incident sends him to court-ordered therapy. While trying to juggle a full-time job and distance himself from his chaotic family, he quickly discovers that being an adult is far more challenging than he anticipated. Nathan Saidden also stars.
‘House of Wax’ melts into Halloween week
Originally a vehicle for horror icon Vincent Price in 1953, “House of Wax” also served an effective 2005 remake with a cast populated by young television stars of the time. AMC shows the update as part of its Halloween-season lineup on Monday, Oct. 27, with Elisha Cuthbert (“24”) and Chad Michael Murray (“One Tree Hill”) as siblings who embark on a camping trip with others. When they run into car trouble that might have been caused by a stranger they irritate, they’re stranded in a near-deserted town where the handful of residents includes twin brothers (Brian Van Holt) ... one of whom wears a wax mask. Matters get increasingly creepier, and they’re well-paced by director Jaume Collet-Serra, who has worked several times with Liam Neeson on action tales (2014’s “Non-Stop,” 2018’s “The Commuter,” etc.) and also guided the upcoming remake of “Cliffhanger.” Jared Padalecki (“Supernatural”) and Paris Hilton also are featured, and one of the memorable plot points is an offbeat use of super glue that isn’t recommended for at-home application. As all-American as the setting might look, the picture actually was made in Australia.
“Star Wars: Visions” - Volume 3 (Oct. 29)
Expanding on three storylines introduced in Volume 1 (including “The Duel,” “The Village Bride” and “The Ninth Jedi”), this return to the anime-based shorts will see directors Takanobu Mizuno, Hitoshi Haga and Naoyoshi Shiotani continuing past plots in “The Duel: Payback,” “The Lost Ones” and “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope,” respectively. Six new storylines will also be introduced in “Yuko’s Treasure,” “The Smuggler,” “The Bounty Hunters” and more.
“Disney Twisted Wonderland: The Animation” (Oct. 29)
Acting as an adaptation of the Japanese mobile game, “Disney Twisted Wonderland,” this series features anime-style versions of various Disney villains, all designed by “Black Butler’s” Yana Toboso. With a dark fantasy storyline, “Twisted Wonderland” puts the villains in question through trying circumstances unlike anything contained in their original Disney films.

“The Mary Tyler Moore Show” (UPtv and Catchy Comedy, weekdays): UPtv recently was added as a Monday-through-Friday outlet for this sitcom, with a block of four episodes running there each weekday. With the passing of singer-composer Sonny Curtis last month, it’s now bittersweet to hear him perform the show’s theme song, “Love Is All Around” ... but the tune was ideally suited to the personal and professional adventures of Mary Richards (played by Moore), a local TV-news producer in Minneapolis, Minn. The regular cast members — also including Edward Asner, Valerie Harper, Ted Knight, Gavin McLeod, Betty White, Cloris Leachman and Georgia Engel — were well-honored during the series’ original 1970s run.
“Elementary” (Catchy Comedy, Saturday, Nov. 1): This contemporary take on the Sherlock Holmes legend — which aired on CBS from 2012 until 2019 — started its second season with “Step Nine,” which takes the sleuth (played by Jonny Lee Miller) from New York back to London, where he searches for a missing ally from Scotland Yard (Sean Pertwee). Holmes’s colleague Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) goes along, and they find that the disappearance is connected to a case involving a weapon with an unusual history; Rhys Ifans (“Notting Hill,” 1999) plays Holmes’s brother Mycroft.

Piastri looks to extend championship lead at Mexican Grand Prix
A thrilling 2025 Formula One season continues as drivers and teams head to Mexico City for the highly anticipated Mexican Grand Prix, held at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Scheduled for Oct. 24-26, all practices, qualifying and race day air live on ESPN.
Championship leader Oscar Piastri enters this weekend well in control of the drivers standings with 336 points (at press time), leading McLaren teammate Lando Norris (314) and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen (217). This season, the Aussie has been nothing short of world class, collecting seven wins and 14 podiums in 18 races, and with McLaren having already clinched the Constructors Championship, all the focus shifts to maximizing Piastri’s title push in the final rounds.
Qualifying on Saturday will likely determine Sunday’s outcome with overtaking limited in sections such as the stadium style Foro Sol. The combination of high-speed straights, tight corners and slow final turns leaves little to no room for mistakes.
For Piastri, the goal is simple: qualify strong, avoid mistakes and manage tires where he can. His consistency this season has undeniably been a major asset to the team. Aside from a few mishaps in qualifying and the occasional lack in race pace, it proves nothing can be taken for granted in this sport.
If McLaren can provide Piastri with another clean car and strategy, Piastri could carry himself to another strong result, potentially a win, in Mexico.
Fans won’t want to miss any of the action as the Mexican Grand Prix kicks off Oct. 24-26 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City with all scheduled practices, qualifying and race day broadcast live on ESPN.

“Football has always been a very big part of my life, but it’s never intersected with being an actress. Those worlds have never met. So when I read the script, I was like, the fact that my two worlds could be meeting together was amazing — that is what made this my dream role.” — Perry Mattfeld of “Chad Powers”
“I think my personal connection to the show is obvious. I live, breathe, eat, sleep and think about ‘Survivor’ all day. I hope that if my time comes to an end and I’ve run out of ideas, that it’ll be obvious to me, so that I don’t have to get voted out of the game. I feel really energetic about our team and our ideas, and we’re already working on [Season] 51.” — Jeff Probst of “Survivor”
“I don’t know. I don’t analyze myself that way. I don’t sit back and say, ‘You know what I’ve done with Oliver this season...?’ I look at the script and I think, I’m in such good hands. That’s the other huge liberating thing about doing a show like this.” — Martin Short of “Only Murders in the Building”
