SUMMER 2020 EDITION

JULY & AUGUST

NEWSLETTER

A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO Greetings all JCT associates and stakeholders, To say this has been an extraordinary year would be an understatement, and it’s just early August! From a company standpoint, we’re holding up as well as can be expected and better than most. COVID cases and the ensuing policies have impacted everyone in the country in varying degrees and we are not exempt. Several non-driving employees and some drivers have tested positive, but most with little to no symptoms. The few that have gotten sick have recovered with no lasting complications. As for business, being firmly situated in the food space for over three decades has boded well for our model and we’ve experienced little to no downturn in load volumes or miles, in fact we’re trending up in several areas. While our drivers like the benefit of fixed mileage pay on ALL miles, the rapidly changing market conditions in Q2 and Q3 compelled us to implement a $0.05/mile market premium surcharge on August 1st. Looking back to March when we revised our Fuel Surcharge program, many of you offset that bottom line impact by improving driving MPG, reducing idle time and eliminating out of route miles. The price per gallon is down almost $0.50/mile from a year ago, so the actual effect on take home pay is now very minimal.

Look for future correspondence and potential action as we stay in tune with the freight and labor markets to insure our program remains ultra-competitive. On a more personal note, our founder and Chairman, John Christner went down on his motorcycle leaving Boston, MA for Sturgis, SD and sustained several serious injuries. They are not life-threatening, but he’s still in the hospital in Rhode Island and he has a long road to recovery. The good news is we all know John never met a road he wouldn’t go down, so plan to see him up and around someday soon. Overall, in spite of the extreme uncertainty facing so many areas of life these days, we find time to reflect on the positives. We have an amazing brand/company that turns 35 years old next year. We have incredibly talented, hard-working people that give their all. We have loyal, long-term customers that value what we do. And we have good, secure jobs to provide for our loved ones. It could be so much worse!

Thank you for all you do! -Danny Christner

JUNE RECRUITER OF THE MONTH

Gina Bartley wrote, “The recruiter that brought in the most drivers for the month of June is Elisha Thornton! Elisha is a top notch recruiter and has only been with JCT a short time. She takes great pride in her work and recruiting efforts. Elisha is a great asset to our department and we want to give her a big thank you for all of her hard work.”

JULY RECRUITER OF THE MONTH

Gina Bartley wrote, “I want to recognize Desiree Van Kalsbeek for winning “RECRUITER OF THE MONTH” for July 2020! Desiree has been with JCT since February 2016 as a Recruiter. Now that she is considered a seasoned recruiter and proven her top notch recruiting skills, she is able to work remotely, from home. Recruiting is far from easy, especially now with the world events, but Desiree has accepted that challenge and managed to come out on top! She will be rewarded with a ½ day off and lunch on us.

We appreciate everything she is doing for our Recruiting Department and JCT! Keep up the good work! Congratulations Desiree! I’m so proud of you!”

MAY DRIVER MANAGER OF THE MONTH

Tyler Preston wrote, “The DM of the Month numbers for May were a very close race! Tom Cowan, Brian Stewart, and Hollie Taylor were all tied on total points at 47! As the tie breaker, I am going to go with lowest terms and highest miles for bonus percentage. This puts Hollie Taylor as the winner for May DM of the Month! Hollie joined JCT in March and quickly had to learn the ropes and take on a full fleet of drivers. Since she had a vast wealth of trucking knowledge prior to JCT, she was able to quickly learn our system and procedures, and started to shine early in the game as a Driver Manager. She has quickly fit in with everyone else in the department, has established trust and rapport with her drivers, and I look forward to seeing what she accomplishes in the future. Hollie will be awarded a “Snooze or Cruise Pass”, and will get taken to lunch on a day of her choice. Good job Hollie!”

JUNE DRIVER MANAGER OF THE MONTH

Tyler Preston wrote, “The DM of the Month for June goes to – Jenn Heisley! Jenn has won the DM of the month aware a couple times now since we have brought this award back which proves that she is consistent in her performance and approach. Good job Jenn!!! The winner for May, Hollie Baskins, was right on her tail along with Charles so everyone continue to produce results as the numbers are close! Our new DM, Dale, had a total of 48 points which was a very solid performance but since he didn’t have a full fleet for June his first month to qualify will be July. Jenn will be awarded the “Snooze or Cruise Pass” to allow her to take half a day off on a day of her choosing.
