Seniors’Christmas Lights Tour returns

The City of Kamloops’ 46th annual Seniors’ Light Tour will take place Thurs. Dec. 8, from 6 to 10 p.m. Individuals aged 55 and older are invited to enjoy this free, annual bus tour to see the best lights in the city.

After the tour, both the Kamloops Rube Band and the Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron will provide live entertainment while hot beverages and holiday goodies are served at the Sandman Centre. After the festivities, participants will be returned to their pickup location by bus.

“After a two-year interruption due to the pandemic, we are excited to be able to bring the community back together to celebrate the joy of the holiday season,” said Chelsea Fortin, the City’s Tournament Capital and Events Coordinator. “What started as a one-off event with two buses and fewer than 60 seniors has grown into a tradition with over 600 seniors, 25 buses, and close to 100 volunteers.”

In partnership with First Transit, a bus will pick up participants from over 20 locations throughout the city. The event is free; however, registration is required. To register, call 250-828-3500 or visit Kamloops. ca/SeniorsLightTour. Registration deadline is Thurs. Dec. 1.

Participants that require handyDART are encouraged to register for the service after they have registered for the lights tour with the City. To schedule a handyDART seat for the evening, phone BC Transit at 250-376-7525.

Individuals that are interested in donating their evening to help spread cheer are encouraged to visit Kamloops.ca/SeniorsLightTour for volunteer information. A volunteer orientation session will take place at the Tournament Capital Centre Mon. Dec. 5, at 6 p.m.

Is your home or business on the tour route? Residents along the tour route are encouraged to help the night by putting up some lights. Even a little can go a long way to spread some cheer!

Blazers win one, lose one

The Kamloops Blazers won 6-1 over the Kelowna Rockets on home ice last Saturday night, Nov. 12.

The Blazers scored four unanswered goals in the first period including the first two goals just 20 seconds apart. It was a scoreless second period then the Blazers scored a pair of goals in the third. The Rockets foiled Dylan Ernst’ shutout bid with their only goal of the game 6:26 into the frame.

Logan Stankoven, Fraser Minten, Matthew Seminoff, and Connor Levis each had a goal and an assist in the winning effort. Aapo Sarell and Kyle Masters rounded out the scoring. Ernst stopped 19 of 20 shots in the win.

The Blazers improved to 8-4-2-

The Blazers fell 2-1 in overtime to the Seattle Thunderbirds last Wednesday night, Nov. 9, at the Sandman Centre. Caedan Bankier had the lone goal on the night as he opened the scoring just 1:36 into the game. Ernst stopped 27 of 29 shots in the loss.

The Blazers are on the road this weekend. They are in Langley Friday night, Nov. 18, to face off against the Vancouver Giants. Devin Benson scored just under three minutes in to overtime as the Kamloops Storm took a 5-4 come from behind victory over the hometown Creston Thunder Cats in KIJHL action last Saturday night, Nov. 12.

Kamloops trailed 4-2 heading in to the third period but goals from Peyton Kelly and Kyle Sanford tied the game setting up Benson’s second goal of the game which was the winner in OT. Evan Clark also scored for the Storm. Sanford added an assist while Evan Douglas chipped in with two assists.

Colton Phillips-Watts made 29 saves in getting the win in net while the Storm fired 35 shots of their own. Kamloops was 1 for 3 on the power play and 3 for 4 on the penalty kill.

Due to an ammonia alarm inside the Invermere Arena the Kamloops Storm/Columbia Valley Rockies game has been sus-

pended with the game tied at 1-1. The game was stopped with 1:05 left in the third period.

Two days later the Storm finished a sweep of their weekend road trip by defeating the ColumbiaValley Rockies 2-1 in a shootout in a game that was stopped last Friday night, Nov. 11, with 1:05 left in the third period and the game tied 1-1.

After Kamloops travelled down to beat Creston 5-4 last Saturday, Nov. 12, the Storm returned to Columbia Valley to complete the suspended game and won in the shootout.

Colton Phillips-Watts stopped

36 of 37 shots fired his way to the win, and made three out of four saves in the shootout. Evan Douglas scored the shootout winner after Jake Phillips-Watts matched the Rockies first shootout goal with one of his own.

Jameson Rende shorthanded opened the games scoring in the second period. Both teams were 0 for 3 on the power play.

The Storm are home this weekend as they take on the North Okanagan Knights Fri. Nov. 18, and the Kelowna Chiefs Sat. Nov. 19. at the McArthur Island Sports Centre. The puck drops at 7 p.m. both nights.
