GROWTH JLS® Finishes First Round of Facility Expansion

Increased capacity addresses growing demand for packaging automation

JLS Automation recently completed its first phase of expansion projects for its headquarters in York, PA.

This leg of the project focused exclusively on expanding production space to accommodate rapidly growing consumer demand for large, automated packaging systems as well as traditional JLS equipment. 50,000 sq ft was added to the existing facility, which was just under 100,000 sq ft. prior to the expansion.

With this addition, throughput opportunities have been increased by 60%. It has also provided more room for integrating large, high-speed, multi-robot systems. Additionally, a higher volume of FATs will be able to be conducted on-site at JLS, including fully integrated systems. Running these tests on-site helps ensure end-user success before a system ever leaves the door. It also reduces the time between the FAT and operation at the customer site.

“We see an uptick in demand for large, automated packaging systems that help fill labor gaps, and this expansion has provided us with the necessary space for accommodating them,” said Craig Souser, President and CEO of JLS Automation. “By expanding our facility, we’ve paved the way for continued business development and can provide more jobs to people in our community. In turn, we’re better able to help our customers deal with a challenging labor market.”

Several York-area firms are involved in these expansion projects. Contracting is being managed by Campbell and Associates, while the project architect is CORE Design Group. Working in tandem with the two, Site Design Concepts, Inc. is handling the land development.
