Christina Eubanks
It has been the greatest honor to serve as President of the Junior League of Dallas. As I reflect on this past year, my heart is full of gratitude—for the opportunity to lead, for the partnerships we’ve built, and most of all, for each of you who showed up, time and time again, with passion, and dedication to our mission.
This year, we saw what happens when our community comes together with purpose. At the 27th Annual Dallas Mayor’s Back to School Fair, our reignited partnership with Mayor Eric Johnson’s office helped provide over 10,000 students with the tools they need to thrive in the classroom. It was a powerful reminder that by investing in our children, we invest in the future of Dallas.

We also deepened our commitment to developing women leaders through a new partnership with BoardBuild, where nearly 200 JLD members earned Board Essentials Certification. By equipping our members with the tools to lead on nonprofit boards, we are ensuring that our legacy of strong, capable leadership carries forward—impacting organizations across this city for years to come.
The 2024 Milestones Luncheon brought us together to honor resilience and excellence in service. Sitting in the room as Robin Roberts shared her wisdom on strength and gratitude, I could feel the energy—a collective understanding of how far we’ve come and how far we’re ready to go. Honoring Kathleen Gibson as Sustainer of the Year reminded us all of the power of a life dedicated to service.
Finally, our inaugural Women’s Leadership Summit, themed “Bold Women, Big Impact”, challenged and inspired us. From the opening session to the inspiring panels moderated by leaders like JLD President-elect-elect Dr. Lindsay Davis and featuring voices like Dr. Stephanie Elizalde, Matrice Ellis-Kirk, and Hon. Jeanne L. Phillips, this summit was a celebration of what bold leadership looks like. It was a call to action—to keep stepping forward, to keep raising our voices, and to keep leading with courage.
Through it all, I have been reminded of this simple truth: our strength lies in community. By lifting each other up, adapting to challenges, and stepping boldly into leadership, we create real, lasting change.
To our members, staff, and supporters—thank you. Thank you for your dedication, your time, and your belief in our mission. You are the heart of this organization, and everything we accomplished this year was because of you. It has been a privilege to serve alongside you, and I will forever be proud of what we achieved together.
With all my gratitude,

CHRISTINA N. EUBANKS
2023 - 2024 Junior League of Dallas President

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

It is my distinct pleasure to present to you this year’s DallaCite , celebrating the Junior League of Dallas and our 102nd year of impact. As we turn these pages together, we reflect on another remarkable chapter of leadership, volunteerism, and transformative community impact.
This past year has been defined by the commitment of our members who have consistently demonstrated what it means to be catalysts for positive change. Through innovative programs, strategic partnerships, and dedicated volunteer service, the Junior League of Dallas has continued to advance women’s leadership while addressing the critical needs in our community.
The highlights and achievements documented in this year’s DallaCite reflect more than just numbers and projects – they represent the collective spirit of women who champion the power of leadership and volunteerism to improve lives in our very own community. What makes our organization truly special is the continuous chain of mentorship and growth that flows through all that we do. As we connect and develop women through leadership opportunities and actionable training, we simultaneously strengthen the fabric of our community. This dual impact – empowering women while serving Dallas – remains at the heart of our mission.

One of the projects, Junior League of Dallas volunteers supported Challenge Air for Kids and Friends by providing 14 volunteers to prepare for an event.
“Volunteers rocked every task with smiles and enthusiasm from setup and registration to clean-up. We could not have done this event without you.” – Challenge Air for Kids

Mayor’s Back to School Fair

Junior League of Dallas was delighted to partner with the City of Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson, for our newest Signature Project Mayor’s Back to School Fair (MBTSF), held August 4, 2023.
For 27 years, the Mayor’s Back to School Fair has served as a one-stop shop for school supplies, valuable services, and community resources. Over 10,000 Dallas students and their families received school supplies at the fair and access to immunizations, dental screenings, vision exams, and other health and social services provided by more than 100 vendors.
This year, the Junior League of Dallas headed the event and recruited, trained and supported more than 500 event volunteers needed to power the event.

“Education is one of our core impact areas, and we strongly believe that our children should have all the necessary tools to be successful in school,” Junior League of Dallas President Christina Eubanks said. “This annual fair is the perfect way to serve our community and leverage our trained volunteers to alleviate the financial burden of school supplies and other preparations required for students to achieve and excel throughout the school year.”

Park Improvement Project
Through Signature Projects, Junior League of Dallas reignited their partnership with Texas Trees Foundation that was formed in 1988. The Park Improvement Project (PIP) inaugural event supported the Texas Trees Foundation’s (TTF) new Equity Tree Planting initiative driven by TTF’s Dallas Tree Equity Planting Map. The map identifies areas of urgent need across the city where the tree canopy has suffered due to a lack of historical investment resulting in higher concentrations of CO2 and a lack of shade. The map provides clear, data-driven insights on building a more equitable tree canopy across the city to improve air quality, residents’ health, and the environment while addressing long-term urban heat. The District 1 planting is an effort to address the highest areas of concern identified by the map.
In conjunction with TTF, Savoy Equity Partners, TownCompanies, D1 Environmental Commission Member Teresita Delgado, and D1 Council Member Chad West, Provisional, Active, and Sustainer JLD volunteers planted 65 trees in Bishop Ridge, located in Dallas City Council District 1. Bishop Ridge is a historically underserved community that lacks adequate tree canopy as a result of redlining.

Junior Cliburn Competition

The Cliburn returned to Dallas for the 2023 Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition This year, the Cliburn Committee invited Junior League of Dallas members to join them June 8 – 17 at the SMU Meadows School of the Arts & Meyerson Symphony Center to be a part of this inspiring global event. Volunteer opportunities included ushers, gift shop sales, the artist lounge, and more.
Over a four-year cycle, the Cliburn contributes to North Texas’ cultural landscape with over 170 classical music performances for 150,000 attendees through competitions, free community concerts, and its signature Cliburn Concerts series. It presents 1,000 Cliburn in the Classroom in- school, interactive music education programs for more than 200,000 area elementary students. During the same time period, it garners the world’s attention with more than 40 million views from 177 nations for competition webcasts; 300 concerts worldwide booked for competition winners; more than 10,000 news articles about the Cliburn and its winners; and regular national radio broadcasts to 245 public radio stations.
248 pianists, age 13 to 17 applied, and just 37 have been selected to come to Dallas to learn from top international artists, make lifelong connections, and share their music with the world!
This year’s Junior artists displayed impressive determination in their craft, from one who, at 16, has already finished first place in 30 international piano competitions, and one who, when he was 12, recorded the piano performance of the main character in the popular anime series, Forest of Piano. They also exhibit great talent outside of piano performance: one has been commissioned by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center to write a piano trio, another is a National MathCounts finalist, and yet another has been seriously studying and practicing Chinese calligraphy since he was 4.
The winners: Bernice Gressman Meyerson First Prize – Seokyoung Hong 홍석영, 15, South Korea; Shirley Cox McIntyre Second Prize – Yifan Wu 吴一凡, 14, China; The Horchow Family Third Prize – Jan Schulmeister, 16, Czechia. Each finalist also received $2,500 scholarships that must be spent toward furthering their musical advancement.
Grants for Innovative Teaching

Junior League of Dallas and presenting sponsor Texas Instruments (TI) awarded 38 Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) educators with grants through the annual Grants for Innovative Teaching (GFIT) program. In its history, this JLD Signature Project has awarded more than $2.2 million to Dallas ISD educators, and this year, it will directly impact more than 30,000 students. It is designed to encourage excellence in education by funding special projects addressing reading and literacy enrichment; diversity; special education; science, technology, engineering and math; or arts and culture enrichment across one or more grade levels.
This year, $78,684 was distributed to support deserving educators’ winning projects. Some of the grants selected include: Eclipses are Totally Awesome, The Heart of Hawthorne-Learning Through the School Garden, and Future in Biotechnology. The projects awarded will provide students with diverse experiences and highlight the innovation of Dallas ISD educators.
“The Grants for Innovative Teaching Committee is in awe of the level of innovation, uniqueness and inclusivity that each of the educators so passionately brought to the table. We are thrilled to be able to provide financial support to these creative educators and impact more than 30,000 Dallas ISD students throughout this school year,” said JLD President Christina Eubanks. “The funding of these grants is possible through generous donations from our sponsors including: Texas Instruments and The Agnes Cluthe Oliver Foundation. Without their continued generosity, this program would not exist.”

BoardBuild + Women’s Leadership Summit
BOARDBUILD
Congratulations to our 202 Members certified for Nonprofit Board! For 102 years, the Junior League of Dallas (JLD) has equipped its members to be leaders and change-makers within our community. As part of an effort to re-imagine how League members are trained to serve, the JLD partnered with local nonprofit, BoardBuild, to educate JLD members to prepare them for nonprofit board service.
“Every day, hundreds of Dallas nonprofits are making a powerful difference in the lives and futures of our neighbors, and JLD members havelongservedonnumerousnonprofitboardsacrossourcity, making an immeasurable impact on a range of critical issues,” said Christina Eubanks, Junior League of Dallas President. “We are excited to share this new partnership with BoardBuild, which will further enhance our members’ experience and help them make an even bigger impact in the Dallas area.”
Junior League of Dallas Provisional, Active and Sustainer members were invited to be part of this customized hybrid learning program, at no cost. BoardBuild’s Board Essentials certification teaches best practices for effective board leadership and helps graduates connect with Dallas nonprofits that are actively seeking board members. Nonprofits can post open board and committee positions on the BoardBuild platform at no cost and can now specifically search for certified JLD members.
“The outpouring of interest from our membership shows JLD is a robust source of emerging and established leaders now equipped to serve nonprofits on another level. While we had 189 members earn their certification this fall, more than 100 additional members are still in progress.ThroughBoardBuild,JLDisservingournonprofitcommunity in a new way, making it easier than ever for agencies to directly match with qualified leaders!” explained Dulari Mehta, who is leading this effort within the League for the 2023-2024 service year. BoardBuild is a North Texas-based nonprofit founded in 2019 that trains and certifies emerging and established leaders and connects them to serve on nonprofit boards. Last year, BoardBuild trained nearly 500 individuals nationwide and matched 124 individuals with nonprofit board positions, including 82 women and 67 BIPOC individuals.
“As women are underrepresented at the governance level across all board rooms, BoardBuild is proud to partner with the Junior League of Dallas to equip and empower talented and committed women to affect policy change and to be strong advocates for social impact,” said President and CEO of BoardBuild, Pam Cannell.

Junior League of Dallas’ (JLD) annual Milestones Luncheon was held Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Omni Dallas Hotel and featured Robin Roberts, co-anchor of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” president of Rock’n Robin Productions and best-selling author. Additionally, 2024 Sustainer of the Year Kathleen Gibson was recognized during the Luncheon.
The morning began with a VIP reception and photos in the Katy Trail room with Robin welcoming guests before heading into the Dallas Ballroom to begin the luncheon. Luncheon emcee and WFAA Anchor Cynthia Izaguirre welcomed guests and introduced Rev. Linda Roby, associate minister of pastoral care at Highland Park United Methodist Church, who gave the invocation.

Milestones Luncheon Co-chairs Linda Secrest and Sally Pretorius Hodge thanked sponsors and announced the raffle, including a chance to win four prizes: a $5,000 Central Market Gift Card, a $5,000 Plains Capital Bank Debit Card, a Wine Tasting For 10 People at 55 Seventy and a $5,000 Bachendorf’s Gift Card.
Each year, the Milestones Luncheon raises funds for the Junior League of Dallas Community Service Fund, which serves as a platform to raise awareness for the programs and issues supported by the JLD and to recognize the impact and achievements of its volunteers. Proceeds from the Milestones Luncheon allow the JLD to grant approximately $1 million annually to the Dallas community.
