"Thank you Junior League of Dallas for 101 years of service to our Community!"Lyda Hill
I am pleased to welcome you to the 2023 Milestones Luncheon! On behalf of our nearly 4,000 members, I would like to thank you for joining us to celebrate our Sustainer of the Year, Pam Busbee, and enjoy a conversation with awardwinning actor and New York Times bestselling author, Rob Lowe.
Now in our 101st year, the Junior League of Dallas remains as committed as ever to developing the potential of women, promoting voluntarism, and improving our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. This year alone, we will contribute over 100,000 uncompensated volunteer hours and over $1 million to the greater Dallas community. Our members will further our mission through direct service at our 34 partner agencies to address the most critical needs in our community.
After a wonderful Centennial celebration in 2021 – 2022, we have spent much of this year looking ahead to our next century of service to Dallas and examining new ways for the Junior League of Dallas to carry out its mission. We are excited to share that we will be expanding our Signature Projects program beginning in 2023 – 2024 by adding two new projects, Mayor’s Back to School Fair, which will provide logistical and volunteer support to the Mayor’s Office for this important community event, and the Park Improvement Project, which will work to improve green spaces in underserved areas of our community. We are also introducing new volunteer opportunities in our Community Program that will couple training with service, allowing our members to maximize their impact.
It is through the commitment of our members and the generosity of our donors that JLD cultivates leaders who collectively address the critical needs of our community. Your dedication and support allows our organization to continue to thrive and make a difference in the lives of so many in Dallas.
Welcome to the 2023 Milestones Luncheon! As the Junior League of Dallas embarks on its second century of training, service, and leadership in Dallas, we proudly reaffirm our commitment to improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our funding and volunteer support serve local nonprofit agencies in our Community Program and Signature Projects created and administered by the League.
We also express our sincere gratitude to the JLD members who paved the way before us and had such a powerful philanthropic impact on our Dallas community. Because of women like these, the Junior League of Dallas is now the premier organization in Dallas for women leaders, uniting nearly 4,000 women dedicated to serving Dallas.
Please know that your generous support of the League through your donation to today’s Milestones Luncheon advances the JLD’s mission and those of the agencies we serve. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

The 2023 Junior League of Dallas Sustainer of the Year is Pam Busbee, a dedicated Junior League of Dallas member who has taken the training and relationships she received from the League out into our greater Dallas community.
As a passionate advocate and leader for numerous causes and nonprofit organizations, Pam has served in the following roles, among others: Cochair of the Dallas CASA Cherish the Children Luncheon; Chair of the Baylor Scott & White Dallas Foundation Celebrating Women Luncheon (with celebrity speaker Rob Lowe); Chair of the Callier Cares Luncheon; Chair of Six Flags Family Night, benefiting Children’s Health; and Honorary Chair for the Healing Hands Luncheon, benefiting HHM Health. Other organizations that have been lucky to count Pam as a supporter and leader include Jonathan’s Place, The Senior Source, Dallas Women’s Club, West Dallas Community School, Crystal Charity Ball, and St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. Additionally, Pam has loyally served her alma mater, The Hockaday School, as the Alumnae Association Board President, the Parents Association President, and as a member of Hockaday School Board of Trustees.
Born and raised in Dallas, Pam attended Southern Methodist University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree. She has four children and is the proud grandmother of six grandchildren. Pam loves to garden and dance and has completed 22 marathons — so far.

Rob’s incredibly diverse career also includes scene stealing work in Behind The Candelabra, Austin Powers, and Tommy Boy. His two memoirs, Stories I Only Tell My Friends, and Love Life, are both New York Times Bestsellers. He has taken his first memoir and made it into a touring show called Stories I Only Tell My Friends: Live! which has received rave reviews throughout the country and sold out in London.
Most recently, Rob directed and starred in a reimagining of the Oscar nominated classic, The Bad Seed. He executive produced and starred in Holiday In The Wild, which was one of the most downloaded movies of the year for Netflix. He also hosts the mental challenge competition series Mental Samurai on FOX. In 2019, Rob joined with Ryan Murphy to executive produce and star in the hit drama, 911 Lonestar, which begins its third season in January 2022 and is consistently one of the top rated shows in all of television.

Rob launched another new podcast, Parks And Recollection, in 2021. Co-hosted with show runner Alan Yang, the podcast is a behind the scenes look at each episode of the celebrated comedy classic Parks And Recreation

The Junior League of Dallas Centennial Endowment is a separate 501 (c)(3) dedicated solely to volunteer training for all our members, current and future. In 2018, Lyda Hill funded the Centennial Endowment with a marvelous gift of $5 million and pledged an additional $5 million matching grant. Every gift of $10,000 or more will soon be listed on a permanent Centennial plaque at Junior League of Dallas Headquarters. To meet Lyda’s match, we have raised $4,350,640 and still need to raise $649,360 more. It is not too late to give, and every dollar counts. Donate to the Centennial Endowment to ensure that trained League volunteers will be helping to meet critical needs in Dallas for the next 100 years.

Grants for Innovative Teaching (GFIT) helps improve education in the Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) with grants for unique programs outside school budgets. All Dallas ISD educators are eligible to apply for funding up to $2,500 for innovative teaching projects for all grade levels and subjects.
Through this nationally recognized health education program, we reached more than 1,000 Dallas County children and parents this year with a curriculum covering the basics of nutrition, healthy meal preparation, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The Community Outreach Committee assesses community needs and addresses those needs through various avenues including awarding monetary grants, creating short-term assistance projects, and developing both Leaguewide and discrete projects that support the JLD Issue Areas in response to significant opportunities within the community.
Since 2013, this program has awarded 72 female high schoolers totaling $345,000 in scholarships, helping them pursue their dreams of higher education and cultivating future women leaders.
Established in 2008, the T. Boone Pickens Leadership Institute is a yearlong executive leadership development program for League volunteers. Over 350 hand-selected scholars have participated in the program, which serves as a springboard for graduates to make a significant impact in the League and the greater Dallas community.
Juanita Craft devoted her life to equal rights, and her home near Fair Park was pivotal to many civil rights moments in Dallas, across the state, and beyond. We are partnered with key organizations and community leaders to provide critical funding, education, and support for the house restoration and opening mid-2023.

much gratitude,

THANK YOU for your service to the Junior League of Dallas and to the community. You are truly an inspiration!
The League uncovered “Timeless Treasures” at the annual Auction on November 5, 2022 at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. This year’s theme was a nod to our community agencies we serve, our almost 4,000 members, and our generous donors. The first in-person Auction in three years did not disappoint!
Thanks to Auction Co-chairs Carrie Hill and Jennifer Welden and the entire Auction team for an unforgettable night. Additional thanks to our generous sponsors who helped make the Auction a success:
Guests were welcomed into the museum with music by a student ensemble from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing & Visual Arts. The VIP Reception was held in the Lyda Hill Gems and Minerals Hall. Throughout the event, guests enjoyed a high energy performance from The Special Edition Band, dancing, and a diamond pull courtesy of Cook Diamonds. After the closing of the silent auction, patrons also took advantage of a bonus after-hours adventure to “Stay & Play” in the museum until midnight.
