VIRTUAL HEALING Weston’s Shelbie Rassler

ROTARY FEEDS THE FRONTLINE On the morning of April 15, 2020, the Rotary Club of Weston provided popcorn from PopsCorn and other healthy snacks from Yummy In My Tummy to between 800-1,000 Cleveland Clinic Florida employees in Weston from 6:30 – 9 a.m. Workers in all sorts of essential businesses expose themselves to the risk so that our community can move forward. To thank them, while taking necessary safety precautions, Rotarians and Yummy In My Tummy employees set up tables of snacks at the hospital entrance and the clinic entrance for employees coming and leaving the hospital. This initiative was a way to thank these front line employees for all that they are doing for the community on a daily basis during this crisis.

City of Weston Launches Campaign to Support Those Working on the Front Lines

“Shine in White” Weston Encourages the Public to Display White Lights or White Ribbons and to Wear White on Wednesdays

I

n an effort to display support to those working on the front lines, from medical professionals to inspectors and clerks, the City of Weston is launching the Shine in White campaign on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. The campaign will conclude when the Safer at Home order is lifted.

Daniel Stermer, City of Weston. “This is not going to go away anytime soon and we need to encourage those on the front lines by showing our appreciation for everything they do for the betterment of our communities. I know I am very appreciative for all they do.”

Weston City Hall is shining in white, too. White ribbons will be installed in outdoor public areas to kick-off this campaign. Weston officials encourage the public to wear a white ribbon or wear white clothing every Wednesday. Residents and businesses are asked to display white lights or white ribbons in their front yards, balconies or windows that are visible to their neighbors during this entire period.

The City encourages the public to post their Shine in White photos and videos on social media by using the hashtag #ShineInWhite #Weston and to include inspiring messages to those front line professionals.

“Those working closely with the public are taking great risks in an effort to ensure that others are safe,” said Mayor

“We can all do this from the comfort of our homes. Let’s unify the community in a positive movement,” said Weston City Manager Don Decker. “We want everybody to get involved and urge other communities to join the Shine in White effort too.”

Back In The 1960’s, Where There Was Advertising There Was Bourbon. It was used to break the ice between hard-nosed business minds and free-spirited creative thinkers. It was raised heartily over successes and poured generously over defeats. Bourbon is iconic to the genesis of advertising. Perhaps, that’s because bourbon mirrors our business so closely. Crafting a great campaign takes talent and persistence. Its greatness often lies in nuance and subtlety. Some people appreciate this painstaking art, while others never quite get it. At Emblem, we partner with clients who revere the process; who strive for bold uniqueness; and who genuinely want to make something great. We’ve found these are the relationships that just keep getting better with age. Check out our work. Then, let’s meet for a drink.

JOY

SPREADING

Shelbie Rassler - What the World Needs Now

A

t just 22 years old, Shelbie Rassler has been able to accomplish something powerful: she has found a way to spread joy in the midst of a global pandemic. The senior at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee College made a video intended to bring her college community together. What happened instead was greater than she ever could have imagined. Like every other student, Rassler was told that she had to leave campus and go home, as her school was closing up because of the COVID-19 pandemic. She said that

WESTONLIFEMAGAZINE.COM

she had an idea on the way home: make a video with her peers. Her vision was that each volunteer would record a clip of themselves singing or playing “What The World Needs Now,” a popular song from the 60s orignally by Burt Bacharch. Rassler thought of it as a fun way to bring the Boston Conservatory at Berklee community together, a way to be involved with friends despite not being able to meet face to face. So, she put out a simple Facebook post, asking people to participate in her video. Rassler mentioned that she “tried to pose it in a way that would emphasize that it was going to be a way to all kind of

WESTON LIFE MAGAZINE I APRIL 2020

be together.” This was never about going viral; it was always just a way to connect with people. The response to her Facebook post was much larger than she was expecting. She mentioned that she thought maybe fifteen or twenty people would respond, as it was the weekend that the students were packing up and going home. However, the community responded with vigor. Watching the video, dozens and dozens of different students can be seen, including Rassler playing the alto saxophone. Rassler herself arranged parts for each of the students in the video. As a composition major, this wasn’t too out of the ordinary for her. When asked about the choice of song, Rassler said that she was inspired by a 2016 cover of “What The World Needs Now” by Broadway for Orlando. This was a group of Broadway actors and popular recording artists—such as Carole King, Idina Menzel and Gloria Estefan—that came together to lift spirits after the shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando. She recalled being moved by it, and seeing others around her feel the same way. She was impressed by the video’s “ability to bring and positivity” during such a devastating time. Now she has done the same. “Never in a million years could I have imagined it going viral,” said Rassler. But that’s exactly what happened. The rest of the world was simply enamored over the video that she put together. What was originally intended to bring joy to a small community—the students and their families— ending up bringing joy to so many more. The original YouTube video posted by Rassler—titled “What the World Needs Now - for Virtual Orchestra”—has earned about one and a half million views in less than two weeks. This video has caught the eye of citizens all across America, but also many news sources. Rassler’s video has been reported on by some of the most well-known and influential news sources in the country: NPR, The New York Times, The Today Show, Good Morning America and Forbes, just to name a few. Many of these sources interviewed Rassler as well. She described her experience talking to Forbes as “the most surreal thing, like, ever.” In addition to attention from the media, Rassler got rave reviews from the artist behind the original song. Burt Bacharach, who composed the piece, sent in a video to the Today Show discussing how much he enjoyed the students’ rendition of “What The World Needs Now” and the impact that it has had. “If you can get uplifted, like these kids have done… I’m very, very grateful for that.” Beyond Bacharach, Hal David’s wife Eunice personally reached out to Rassler to tell her how much she liked the cover. Hal David wrote the lyrics for the track. The lyricist himself passed away in 2012, but it’s clear that his memory lives on and is honored through work like this.

Outside of this phenomenon, Rassler is just a normal college girl. Before this project, Rassler was involved in many other clubs and extracurriculars on her campus. She spoke most excitedly about her times as a music director for various performances. As music director, she was responsible for teaching the music of the entire show during rehearsal and putting together the pit orchestra. From there, Rassler would either conduct the orchestra or play the drums with them in the pit. Her favorite experience was when she got to be music director for a show that she wrote. “Voices: A New Musical” was written entirely by Rassler and a friend and was performed by the Boston Conservatory at Berklee students. Rassler plays a myriad of instruments. She listed alto saxophone, drums, piano, clarinet, guitar and bass, but hinted that she tried to learn a lot about every instrument she could. As a composition major, she feels that “the better you know the instrument, the better you can write for the instrument.”

WESTONLIFEMAGAZINE.COM

As a senior, Rassler will graduate very shortly. Her postgraduation plans are to move to New York as soon as possible and start a career as a musician. She mentioned that she was most interested in film scoring, musical theater and more music directing. She even has a few job leads as people have reached out to her after seeing her tremendous work with the “What The World Needs Now” video. Despite some of the glamour of making a viral video, Rassler is keenly aware that this is a very hard and strange time for the entire world. Even though these cool things are happening, she stays mindful of the fact that the globe is living through a pandemic. She emphasized that “the whole point of the video is to spread positivity because people need to stay home and stay inside, and work together to end this quickly and go back to a sense of normalcy.” She is so grateful to have brought so many people joy in such a dark time. Rassler described the pandemic as “scary and unprecedented,” both very fitting adjectives. As for the success of her uplifting video, “I just got lucky, I don’t know what to say.”

The annual cultural event has now grown to be the largest celebration of Latinas in Florida representing a cross-section of disciplines that are changing the face of American culture. With over 70 nominations this year, 12 Latinas and a Latina Pioneer have been selected to join the more than 200 past honorees. What the women have in common and is a major part of the judging process, is their American entrepreneurship intertwined with their values and traditions. The accomplishments of these Latinas stand on their own and are even more significant given the traditional roadblocks that exist for women, especially Latinas. Presented by Latina Style Magazine, the nation’s leader in Hispanic women business, in partnership with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, this popular high-powered exciting event includes a complimentary “mojito” and silent auction, hors d’hoerves, entertainment, and an interactive business expo on Facebook Live. A MODERN WORKSPACE

KELLEY KRONENBERG

K

elley Kronenberg, a diverse business law firm, recently hosted a grand opening event for its state-of-the-art corporate headquarters. More than 300 invited guests attended the catered affair and helped the firm celebrate the opening of its new 35,000-square-foot home located at 10360 West State Road 84 in Davie. “It brings me great joy to celebrate this significant milestone,” said Heath Eskalyo, CFO and principal partner who spearheaded the project for the firm. “Our new headquarters gives us the capacity to continue growing while enabling our team to better serve clients.”

sessions in a relaxed atmosphere, as well as a dedicated education center for employee training. The first floor also includes a mock courtroom, equipped with cameras and monitors that enable clients to participate in trial preparation remotely if they are not available to visit in person. Perhaps most impressive, the building features a rooftop terrace that incorporates landscaping, canopycovered kitchen, and bathrooms. The rooftop provides an open-air venue for Kelley Kronenberg employees to gather, eat and conduct meetings, as well as host client and firm events.

Eskalyo continued: “We have created a modern workspace that supports the firm’s efforts to promote and cultivate an inclusive environment where we celebrate diversity, families, and work-life balance.”

Another popular addition for the firm’s staff includes an employee café, complete with large TVs and modern, casual seating to serve as a common area for employees to take a break and share lunch with their co-workers.

The new structure emphasizes an inspiring workspace thoughtfully curated to foster collaboration and client convenience. The facility features private office suites, as well as collaborative workstations, in a space with distinctive architecture and progressive design elements.

Cabrera Ramos Architects of Doral designed the new headquarters. Alvarez Studios in Miami designed the interiors. The general contractor was Miller Construction based in Fort Lauderdale. Michael and Tyler Harrison of Equistone Partners served as development advisors, and SunTrust provided the construction loan.

The lobby boasts an architectural staircase that leads to a glass-panel balcony. There are two large conference areas that can transform into one great room for events, significant co-working common spaces, or smaller spaces to gather for informal brainstorming

As Kelley Kronenberg celebrates the opening of this new space, it also marks another milestone. In October 2019, the firm reached the 300 employee mark. This includes more than 140 lawyers practicing throughout Florida and Illinois.

Living the

Morganic Lifestyle

In The Midst Of A Worldwide Pandemic

F

or me, living a healthy lifestyle usually consists of a nutritious diet, going to the gym, engaging in fun activities, and being social. Unfortunately, our lives are far from normal at the moment. We are in the midst of a worldwide pandemic and I think now more than ever is the time we must focus on controlling what we can. Especially when it comes to our health. The reality of this is, we don’t know much about why this happened, what exactly it is, or when it will be over. This uncertainty has many of us living with fear, panic, anxiety, and depression. From the hit on the economy to social distancing, it’s safe to say everyone has been impacted by this virus in one way or another. This is why I’m going to challenge you all to try to see the positives and do what you can to come out even stronger.

YOUR MINDSET This is something only you can control. It is crucial that you stay positive and make a conscious effort to choose happiness. There is so much we cannot control right now. Speaking negatively to yourself will only result in more anxiety and depression which in turn can lower your immune system. Choose positive thoughts. The way you speak to yourself matters.

YOUR DIET Being trapped at home may really test your willpower when it comes to making healthy food choices. From anxiety to boredom, it can become easy to wander into the pantry and mindlessly start eating bags of potato chips. I strongly advise against this. Not only is this a time to eat our food sparingly and be mindful to save food for the rest of our community but it is a time to focus on foods that will make us feel good. We want to avoid foods that will cause us to feel sluggish and tired. I recommend focusing on whole foods such as vegetables, fruit, rice, potatoes, and lean meat. If you no longer have access to meat remember you can get protein from things like hummus, nuts, and beans.

YOUR ROUTINE I think now more than ever having a sense of routine will really help your mental health. Doing simple things like making your bed every morning, getting dressed, and doing your hair and makeup can make all the difference in your mood. Everyone should make it a point to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. This will help you to feel grounded during a time when all we seem to feel is chaos.

YOUR CHARACTER With all the uncertainty, it’s normal to panic, buy all the toilet paper, and send yourself into the “fight or flight” mode. I strongly encourage you to think twice before you act. Remember that we are ALL going through this together and we should be mindful of the way we treat one another. It cost zero dollars to be a nice person. When you’re walking through your neighborhood wave at your neighbors and flash a smile. A smile is contagious and right now we are needing kindness more than anything.

EXERCISE Not only should we exercise to maintain a great physique but to build a strong immune system. Exercise raises our body temperature and keeps our heart healthy both of which help fight off disease. Exercise also creates endorphins which can positively impact our mental health. Gyms may be closed but that does not mean you should stop moving. Take advantage of this time to get outdoors and appreciate nature. Go for a walk or set a new performance-based goal for yourself such as the number of burpees you can do in 5 minutes. Each week try to improve on that goal. Always remember where there’s a will, there’s a way. WESTON LIFE MAGAZINE I APRIL 2020

WHERE YOU SPEND YOUR ENERGY? Now more than ever is a time to look inward and get creative. Being forced to socially isolate may not be such a bad thing. Get out that book that’s been collecting dust, mediate for the first time, start journaling, or paint. We often put off self-expression because life gets busy and speaking your truths can be draining but now we have the forced opportunity to slow down. Take advantage of this and start expressing yourself. You may even discover a few things about yourself you didn’t realize before that could have been drastically holding you back from reaching your fullest potential.

DISCONNECT TO RECONNECT

Not only is this a time to reconnect to yourself but your loved ones. Take this time to unplug from technology and engage in deep meaningful conversations with your family or old friends. Even if you are not quarantined with them, hop on a Facetime call and enjoy a meal together. Take advantage of this time to slow down and be present. While this situation is the farthest thing from ideal I encourage everyone to try to see the positives. Control what you can, lean on one another for support, and we will get through this together. Weston and the whole world will come back stronger than before. If you have any questions, concerns, or simply need some support, feel free to contact me. You are not alone.

Have Yourself a Day in

Quarantine One rooftop bar and brunch recommendation at a time.

W

by Jenna Kline

e’re going through a new normal as a world right now. So instead of a typical blog post that features a guide for a specific neighborhood or city, I decided to curate a full-day of recommendations for spending your time in quarantine. To be honest, I’ve really been trying to make the most of my days, even while physically isolated. During a meditation session I took part in, the instructor said changing your phrasing of a situation can ultimately have a huge impact on your perception of it. So instead of thinking about what this pandemic is doing to me, I’ve rephrased it to take more control of the situation. So when I plan out each week, I think about ways in which I get to live my life while in quarantine, taking more control of my life. Yes, I miss my friends, my in-person coffee runs, my coworkers, and my old life back in New York. However, we’re probably never going to have an opportunity like this again to put our lives on pause and really focus on putting ourselves (and those in our community) first. So, in this quarantine, I’ve planned events, tuned in to livestreams, learned how to make whipped coffee, valued the importance of self-care, and came together with strangers for a common cause. Now, I want to share this guide on how you can have yourself a day while in quarantine — because let’s face it, we’re going to be here a lot longer. So why not infuse a bit more positivity into our days and make the most of our virtual times ahead?

Morning Workout I’ve been starting each morning, whether it’s a weekday or weekend, with a workout. No, don’t worry, I didn’t become a fitness freak during this quarantine, and no one expects you to, either. Instead, I’ve been setting aside about 45 minutes when I wake up to take part in some type of physical, mental, or emotional workout. Whether it’s livestreaming a boxing class to let off steam, foam rolling and stretching to take care of my body, or meditating for my day ahead, any bit of workout for my body or mind first thing in the morning has really made a positive impact on my mood each day. As I’m sure most of you have seen by now, there are a bunch of online workout class options to choose from. I’m pretty big into pilates and boxing, so some of the classes that I’ve been live streaming or watching on YouTube include Rumble, Shadowbox, Cassey Ho’s Blogilates, and pvolve. And for those who want a bit more motivation to get their body moving, I’d recommend starting with a few Cassey Ho videos. I’ve been doing her workouts since college, and I truly swear by her. She does each move of the workout with you, making them more enjoyable and less daunting. Her workouts are typically low impact, which is great for people who are injury-prone like myself, and her videos include modifications so that people of all levels can join. Her videos are super positive and engaging, so for anyone just looking for a place to start, search her name on YouTube along with the part of your body that you want to target. I know that should get you off to a great start. For those who are trying to test out as many different workouts as they can right now with their free time, Sweats & The City posted a list of some of the great fitness deals and free trials going on right now. This way, you can test out a variety of programs and instructors to find out which type of workout you’re most excited to stick with.

Brunch I don’t know about you, but in our household, our meals are very important to us, especially when there’s not too much going on during the day. With my sister being vegetarian and myself being Gluten Free and Dairy Free for the last few months, we’ve got some tricky diets to accommodate. Luckily, there’s a ton of food bloggers sharing simple breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert recipes that literally anyone can make. It also makes for a great bonding activity with family or whoever you’re quarantined with. Some brunch recipes that we’ve been having in the mornings include Purely Kaylie’s banana bread pancakes, Eating Bird Food’s Somoa baked oatmeal, and Feel Good Foodie’s date shake. We also just ordered a juicer, so I’ve been having celery juice in the mornings, and if I’m craving something fruity, a strawberry banana smoothie with nut milk and other mix-ins are always a simple breakfast.

Afternoon Activities Give Yourself a Brain Boost I’ve really enjoyed giving myself an early afternoon brain boost to keep my energy going throughout the day. The New York Times offers a NYTimes Free Crossword Puzzle, which is a really fun daily activity that gets you thinking and just takes a few minutes out of your day. Working on a puzzle with family is always a great afternoon break, as well, especially during the work day. I’ve found that stopping my work for just a few minutes to work on a puzzle actually helps get my mind even more engaged, especially when there’s a more daunting work assignment that I’ve been putting off. Additionally, universities have been offering a bunch of free online classes through Coursera, which can definitely keep people busy and productive during these times. I’ve enrolled in Yale’s Science of Well-Being course, which has been extremely interesting and engaging, thus far. It’s completely free and comes with taped lectures, additional supplements or readings, and quizzes to ensure you’ve retained the information (which you also have the option to skip over if you’d like). I’d highly recommend you enrolling in a class that is of interest to you if you want to commit a few hours to learning rather than binging Hulu — or you can do both, like myself!

Tune Into IG Lives I’ve spent way too much time watching IG Lives during quarantine, but I really don’t regret it. I’ve tuned into live streams on topics across the spectrum, whether it’s joint workout videos, musicians live streaming themselves singing, virtual EDM concerts, or wellness tips from experts. I never thought I’d have watched tutorials on how to make a wine mask, how to give yourself a head massage, or how to foam roll the proper way — but hey, when in quarantine! I’d recommend that you go to the Instagram accounts of your favorite celebrities, sports leagues, brands, and clothing companies, and turn on the accounts’ IG Live notifications. Feel free to do some research beforehand to see which accounts have been posting frequently, connecting with guests virtually, and sharing content that you enjoy. If that’s the case, I’d recommend setting up those notifications so that you can continue being up-to-date with those specific accounts.

Don’t get me wrong, I always love a good spontaneous Houseparty call, but having events in my calendar definitely have made me have things to look forward to each day. These thoughtful events can event make some lasting memories when all of this is way behind us.

Connect with People I’ve found that my time in quarantine has allowed myself to actually connect with a lot more people than usual. I’ve been able to have the time to chat with hometown or college friends much more frequently, I’ve been able to spend quality time with many more of my New York friends, and I’ve been able to catch up with grandparents much more frequently. With many of my friends having much lighter schedules, I’ve been enjoying being able to truly catch up with the people I love without being in such a rush.

Practice Skill/Hobby Whether it’s reading, writing blog posts or playing Rummikub with the people you’re quarantined with, there’s so many fun activities that you can spend your time enjoying. You can also utilize apps to help you hone any skills that you’ve been wanting to work on like practicing your dribbling skills with the app Homecourt or even upping your GenZ dancing moves by learning viral TikTok dances. I’ve also used this free time to get more caught up on pop culture, which has included catching up on podcasts that I’d missed and watching relevant series that I never had the time to watch before, like Love is Blind.

Host Events Just because you’re quarantined, you do not have to be bored in the house, in the house bored. I would recommend ramping up your video calls with friends so that you can make them more of an event. By sending out a calendar invite, giving some sort of theme for a catch-up, and including a few people, it’s kept my catch-ups with friends engaging and has also held people more accountable to join. Whether it’s by creating a virtual book club, setting up an afternoon tea or virtual coffee sesh with friends, or even throwing a dance party at night, putting a name to your planned catch-ups can be fun. I even hosted a virtual prom a few weekends ago, where Prom 2020 Kings and Queens were crowned, superlatives were named, and we laughed about prom memories. Don’t get me wrong, I always love a good spontaneous Houseparty call, but having events in my calendar definitely have made me have things to look forward to each day. These thoughtful events can event make some lasting memories when all of this is behind us.

DIY DINNER Remember what I said earlier with my family having specific diet restrictions? Well, that hasn’t made cooking dinner too easy, especially for a family that never did it too frequently to begin with. Luckily, we’ve looked up healthy, simple recipes that aren’t too fancy and can be modified for each diet. For those looking for recipes that literally anyone can do, feel free to try cooking up the following meals: a vegan lentil loaf, sweet potato tacos, vegan buffalo wing sliders, and black bean soup.

Support Local Eats If you and your family want to take a break from cooking and just support a local restaurant, that totally works, too. I’d recommend looking up recent articles that cover restaurants still open in your area and just giving them a call to make sure they’re still open before you go. We’ve been supporting our local vegan supermarket for groceries and our favorite restaurants and cafes on Las Olas.

WESTONLIFEMAGAZINE.COM

Night Activities: Movie & TV Nights with Friends There are so many night activities that you can do with your friends or family that allow you to still relax while connecting with friends. I’ve set up recurring movie or TV show nights with friends. This way, we know that we get to catch up for a bit weekly while also watching a movie or TV show that we’ve been wanting to. In terms of logistics, I usually have my friends up on FaceTime — or use the Netflix Party extension when watching a show on Netflix — to be able to chat with friends while watching.

Wellness Night Self-care has really been a constant theme of my quarantine time. For those who love to be pampered, I’d recommend searching wellness magazines or brands on Instagram, and look at whether they have done any IG Lives with wellness professionals. My favorite accounts to follow have been Chillhouse, Well+Good, and Heyday. I’d recommend setting up a wellness night with some friends, grab a glass of wine, ingredients for a DIY face mask, and nail polish that you’ve had lying around. Pamper yourself because this quarantine is your time, and you deserve to make the most of it.

Virtual Get-Togethers You can set up Zoom happy hours for any occasion, whether it’s doing a virtual seder, celebrating peoples’ birthdays, or just having a White Claw with friends (virtually, of course). We also use Houseparty for more impromptu calls, which also have games to keep your calls light and interactive. The games include versions of Pictionary (called Quick Draw), Cards Against Humanity (called Chips & Guac), Ellen DeGeneres’ inspired Heads Up, and Trivia.

Online Seminars I used to attend General Assembly live courses and seminars in New York, and I’ve been continuing to keep up with their events that have moved virtual. For those who don’t know, General Assembly is an education company that teaches people a range of skills on their campuses worldwide. The company offers so many types of courses and programs — but I’d recommend checking out their free, virtual events or seminars to learn something new and perhaps find a topic that you may want to pursue further afterwards.

Sports Throwbacks Yes, the sports world has shut down, but for those creative enough, sports never really stops. My dad and I record or search for basketball games from 30+ years ago with NBA greats that I never had the chance to watch play. Getting to spend time with my dad reliving these monumental games in sports history is something I’d highly recommend to any sports fan, especially if you share that love with a family member or friend.

I hope you enjoyed this guide that I’ve been following on how to have myself a day while in quarantine. And for those who have been very affected by this pandemic and aren’t looking for a full day of activities like these, perhaps just pick one of these recs that will spark a little joy in your day. I’m hoping there’s at least one thing you can take from this article that can make your day a little brighter.

Thank you for reading, and please be well and stay safe. WESTON LIFE MAGAZINE I APRIL 2020

How to Order a

FREE Credit Report By William E. Lewis Jr.

Before applying for an automobile, credit card, or home mortgage loan, it’s a good idea to check your credit report for errors. Banks, credit unions, auto finance and mortgage lenders have all raised the bar when making credit granting decisions. Long gone are the days when a 620 FICO credit score sufficed. Borrowers with bad credit are being turned down or forced to pay significantly higher interest rates when applying. Those with low credit scores have even been denied employment opportunities and automobile insurance. Negative information contained in credit reports – such as late payments, collection accounts and public record entries - determine whether you can obtain credit, goods, benefits, services, employment and/or insurance. It’s important to review your Equifax, Experian and TransUnion credit reports on a regular basis and correct any information that is inaccurate, erroneous, obsolete, or fraudulent due to possible identity theft. Don’t be scammed by the numerous “free credit report” opportunities found on the Internet. While dozens of companies offer that so-called “free credit report,” many of them have strings attached, such as subscription-based opt-in requiring you to provide credit card information. You really can obtain a free copy of your credit report. Under a narrow set of circumstances, you are entitled to a free copy of your credit report directly from the credit reporting agencies. If you have been denied credit, goods, benefits, services, employment or insurance, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion are statutorily mandated under the Fair Credit Reporting Act to provide a copy without charge. Equifax can be contacted at (800) 685-1111 or online at www.Equifax.com. Experian can be contacted at (888) 397-3742 or online at www.Experian.com. Trans Union can be contacted at (800) 916-8800 or online at www.TransUnion.com. When ordering credit reports, be sure to indicate that you were denied credit, goods, benefits, services and/or employment when prompted. Absent these exceptions, you are entitled to one free “annual credit report” per year. For your free annual credit report, contact the central source at 877-FACT-ACT (877-322-8228) or online at www. AnnualCreditReport.com. Follow the voice prompts and obtain your credit report for review. Credit scores are not included with any of the “free credit reports” provided by the national credit reporting agencies of Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.
