ABOUT OUR SWIM LESSON PROGRAM: CIT’s Swim Instructional Training: Rudimentary skills in swim instruction will be taught to CITs as they work side-byside with a staff swim coach. Your young adult may want to use these newly acquired skills to become a lifeguard, assistant swim instructor or even coach one day. Think about the great job experience this could offer your middle or high schooler. CITs will also be in the pool actively engaged with younger campers during swim lessons.

J-Campers LOVE our exciting swim program! Your child will become safer in the water while learning the basics of swimming. Our highly trained swim instructors are led by our seasoned head swim coach resulting in swim “lessons” your child will cherish. The curriculum is seamless — campers will be overjoyed with the feeling of success as they grow from paddlers to propellers in a matter of days. Our camp swim program remains a popular hit and is among the best you’ll find in any camp setting. Whether your child is just getting comfortable in water or is an experienced swimmer, there’s a place for everyone here at J-Camp!

Week 9* CIT Fun Week: Price: $260 | Members: $215 *Our CIT program is designed to be taken in two-week or four-week blocks depending on grade, with the exception of Week 9.

The goal of our Counselor-in-Training program is to educate and train young adolescents to become effective and talented counselors. The summer of 2019 will see our CITs focusing on skill development. Our 7 - 8 grade CITs can expect to get a taste of what it means to be a counselor while still enjoying camp activities. Our two-week sessions include training in the morning, followed by actively participating in electives, instructional swim and group activities in the afternoon—as well as working on a mitzvah project (community service project). For our 9 – 10 grade CITs, we have a more focused training program including Red Cross CPR training and certification. This four-week session is divided into four themes: introductions, behavior development, programming, and putting plans into action. The older CITs can anticipate diving deeper into “what it means to be a great counselor.” All CITs will gather at the end of each day to go over the day’s activities and their observations. Our CIT program is designed for participants to sign up for two consecutive and four consecutive weeks. Once your initial training is complete, CITs are encouraged to sign up for more weeks to continue their journey and exploration into becoming fantastic future leaders at J-Camp!

J-Camp accepts DHS assistance for full-day Camp Yeladim, and Camp Haverim. Additional payment may be required for extended care. Refunds: Cancellations must be made in writing at least two weeks before your camper’s first week of camp. Please note you will forfeit your registration fee ($35 for members - $60 for non-members). Additionally there will be a fee of $75 per week your child is enrolled. No credits or refunds of any kind will be made for cancellations or changes made by the registrant for any reason after June1. The Dwares JCC reserves the right to cancel any program due to insufficient enrollment. Registrants will be notified of any cancellation the Wednesday before the camp week begins. If the Dwares JCC cancels a camp week, a credit for the camp will be put on the camper ’s Dwares JCC account to use towards future Dwares JCC programming. J-Camp T-shirts: Each registered camper will receive one camp t-shirt. The cost of the t-shirt is included in the registration fee. Additional camp t-shirts are available to purchase for $10 each. Campers must wear camp t-shirts on field trip days. If your camper arrives at camp on field trip day without their camp t-shirt, a new camp t-shirt will be given to them and you will be billed $10. Communication: All families will receive additional information upon receipt of the registration form. Completed emergency, health history, and other forms must be returned in order to complete camper’s registration. You will receive an email

J-CAMP POLICIES & PROCEDURES (continued) on the Thursday before your week at J-Camp, with a briefing of what to expect. All communications, except emergencies, will be via e-mail. If you prefer an alternative means of communication, please be sure to notify us. Jewish/Israeli Programing: The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island seeks to instill an understanding of Judaism and the values we hold to all of our campers. During the camp season campers should expect to engage in activities that echo these values such as sportsmanship, respect, kindness, understanding, and acceptance. The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island seeks to build a larger more vibrant Jewish community here and abroad. The Jewish Alliance is very proud to host a Shaliach (Israeli Emissary who acts as a cultural bridge between Israel and the United States) at J-Camp. We believe that it is an important goal for both our campers and staff to learn and identify with the State of Israel. As we continue to create a connection between our local community and the Jewish community in Israel, we find the contribution of the Shaliach to be an invaluable step on the way to achieving that goal. The Shaliach brings many prepared activities to incorporate into the overall camp program. By simply being at camp and integrating into our community, we have the unique opportunity to learn about Israel and its culture, while we teach the Shaliach about our own culture. The Shaliach participates in a special volunteer program through the Jewish Agency for Israel and completes a thorough background check and training. If you are interested in hosting our Shaliach during his/her camp season for two to three weeks by volunteering your home, contact Aaron Guttin at aguttin@jewisahallianceri.org or 401.421.4111 ext. 140. Swim: Campers enjoy swim at designated times. Swim lessons are taught and monitored by our certified lifeguards. Camp counselors will also be present during all swim periods. Camp Yeladim will have swim lessons on either Thursday or Friday. Campers in Camp Haverim will have swim lessons on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, and they may sign up for free-swim as an elective MondayWednesday and Friday. Towels will be provided. Field Trips: Camp Haverim goes on a field trip every Thursday. Camp Yeladim will explore walks around the neighborhood or visit places in the community such as nearby parks and the library. Parental permission is required and advance notice of upcoming field trips will be given.

J-CAMP POLICIES & PROCEDURES (continued)

Food Policy: A Kosher dairy/vegetarian lunch and snack will be served to all campers daily. Upper Camp is not a completely nut-free environment; however we have nut-free snacks available. Please let us know if your child has any food allergies. Medication: All medication must be submitted to your child’s camp director with a “Permission to Dispense Medication” letter from the parents. For prescription medication, a doctor’s note is required as well. Medication must be in its original packaging. Campers are not permitted to carry their own medication. Medication will be administered by a J-Camp director or nurse, and a record of treatment will be kept. This includes over-the-counter and prescription medication for all minors, including volunteers and CITs.

Many Dwares JCC programs are funded, in part, by dollars raised through the Jewish Alliance Annual Campaign. The Alliance is proud to provide services to enhance the education, heritage, and social commitment in our local and global Jewish community. For more information about the Annual Campaign, contact Michele Gallagher at 401.421.4111 ext. 165 or mgallagher@ jewishallianceri.org.
