Lower Camp: We offer two convenient attendance options: half-day from 9:00am-12:30pm, or fullday from 9:00am-4:00pm. Both options include breakfast and lunch. Early arrival (drop-off at 8:00am) and extended day (4:00-6:00pm) options are available. For fullday campers, a rest period is part of the daily routine. Upper Camp: *Early Arrival (8:00 – 9:00am) & Extended Day (4:00 – 6:00pm) options are available for an additional charge. Shabbat and Share Fridays: Shabbat is a day of rest, and a time to reflect on one’s week. Every Friday, J-Campers will celebrate Shabbat with challah, juice, songs, sharing. Children are invited to bring something from home (related to the theme of the week) to share with their friends.

Counselors-InTraining (CITs): grades 7 - 10

J-Camp CITs work on weekly skills designed to help them to become superior counselors. They will spend time learning with staff and each other, and they will work on a summer-long service project of their choosing. CITs may also earn CPR/First Aid certification at no additional charge. CITs must register for J-Camp in two-week blocks.

Camp Yeladim: age 4

Campers must reach the age of 4 by June 29. Located in the David C. Isenberg Family Early Childhood Center, our Lower Camp, also known as Camp Yeladim, is a big-kid experience in a little-kid environment! Outside, campers will play sports, climb on the playground, and splash in our little pools. Inside, they will exercise body and mind with swim lessons, yoga, art, nature, cooking, and so much more! Children will also enjoy performances and engage with special visitors. Our teachers take special care to tailor each week’s theme to their groups, to create the most meaningful and memorable experiences possible. In weeks 2, 4, 6, and 8, groups will take walking field trips to experience new playgrounds, libraries, and more. Specific information will be distributed prior to each trip.

4

Camp Haverim: grades K - 6

Campers must be at least 5 years old by June 29. Our exciting Camp Haverim will not disappoint! Each week, campers will participate in a variety of activities based on Judaic and secular themes. Campers are sorted into groups by age, so that their days can be filled with challenging, age-appropriate opportunities to discover new interests, develop diverse skills, and explore their surroundings. There will also be times when all campers join together as a group, to build community. Each day starts (weather permitting) with a morning huddle for news and announcements, and campers from different groups will have the opportunity to mingle at lunch and during special programs. Weekly schedules allow our campers to rotate through a variety of programs, while daily electives encourage them to focus on specific interests. J-Campers swim nearly every day, enjoying both swim instruction and free swim. We offer a variety of special guests and all-camp programs throughout the summer, along with weekly field trips and Shabbat challahbaking on Fridays.

Refunds: Cancellations must be made in writing at least two weeks prior to a camper ’s first week of camp. Cancellation will result in a charge of $75.00 per child for each week they were enrolled. The Dwares JCC reserves the right to cancel any program due to insufficient enrollment. If the Dwares JCC cancels a camp week, accounts will be credited or refunded according to registrants’ preferences. Registrants will be notified of any cancellations by the Wednesday prior to the start of the relevant camp week. No credits or refunds of any kind will be made for cancellations or changes made after June 1. J-Camp T-shirts: Each registered camper will receive one J-Camp T-shirt on the day of their first field trip; campers MUST wear camp shirts on field-trip days. T-shirt costs are included as part of registration fees. Additional shirts are available to purchase for $10 each; if your camper arrives at camp on field-trip day without a camp T-shirt, a new shirt will be provided and you will be billed $10. Communication: All families will receive paperwork to fill out upon receipt of registration. Families will receive an e-mail on the Thursday prior to their first week at J-Camp, with a brief description of what to expect. All non-emergency communications will come via e-mail. If you prefer an alternative means of communication, please notify us and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Jewish/Israeli Programing: The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island is a Jewish institution, and throughout the summer we will participate in Israel-focused programing. While we recognize that not all children attending J-Camp may be Jewish, our programing focuses on Jewish values that are universal and everyone can appreciate. Among these values are

12

sportsmanship, teamwork, community, kindness to animals, and caring for the earth and our environment. The Jewish Alliance is proud to host a shaliach (an Israeli emissary, acting as a cultural bridge between Israel and the United States) at J-Camp. We believe that it is an important goal for our campers and staff to learn about and identify with the state of Israel, and the work of the shaliach is an invaluable resource in creating connections between our local community and the Jewish community in Israel. The shaliach incorporates many prepared activities into our overall camp program, offering unique opportunities to learn about Israel and its culture. Our shaliach comes to us as part of a special volunteer program through the Jewish Agency for Israel, and each shaliach must complete a thorough background check and training. If you would like to host our shaliach for 2-3 weeks in your home during their camp season, please contact Aaron Guttin at aguttin@jewisahallianceri.org or 401.421.4111 ext. 140. Field Trips: Camp Haverim goes on a field trip every Thursday (or Wednesday, in week 9). Camp Yeladim will take walks around the neighborhood and visit places in the community (such as nearby parks and libraries). Details of upcoming field trips will be provided in advance; parental permission is required for campers to participate in these trips. Parents acknowledge that their signatures on the registration form provides permission for Summer J-Camp to take their enrolled child or children on scheduled field trips. Food Policy: A dairy lunch and snack (under the certification of Lighthouse Kosher) will be served daily to all campers. While Upper Camp is not a completely nut-free environment, we do have nut-free snacks available. Please let us know if your child has any food allergies. Swim Lessons at the JCC: At J-Camp, campers spend several hours a week in our pool for a combination of free swim and swim instruction. Our instructional methods come from the curriculum of our own TigerSharks Swim Academy and lessons are tailored to each child’s ability. We want to ensure that at the very least children are comfortable and calm in the water, and able to perform basic self-rescue. You should see your child’s comfort level and abilities grow noticeably relative to their application of the training. Medication: “Medication” includes over-the-counter and prescription medication for all minors (including volunteers and CITs). Medications must be submitted to the camp director along with a signed “permission to dispense medication” letter. Per DHS policy, both prescription and over-the-counter medications require an additional doctor ’s note. Campers are not permitted to carry their own medication, and all medication must be in its original packaging. Medication will be administered by a nurse or J-Camp director, and a record of treatment will be kept.
