A warm welcome
Hello colleagues,
Welcome to the new-look delivered!
For those that I haven’t had the chance to meet, I am the now not-so-new Chief Commercial Officer, and it is my privilege to introduce our new-look internal magazine.
Since joining Jersey Post late last year I’ve been getting to know both the business and the Island better. I’ve loved getting to see Jersey and learn the quirks of Island life as I start the process of relocating from my current home in the south of England.
Jersey Post has seen a lot of change over the last 18 months, none of which has been easy - especially the brand taking some strain with the removal of the mail plane, and we’ve experienced some negative commentary in the media.
However, we’re coming out the other side. Jersey Post is committed to our local community. We have much to celebrate and champion. For starters, we have a great team at Jersey Post and our posties and counter teams are much loved by our customers.
The Exec team has spent some time recently discussing the things that make us proud to lead Jersey Post Group, and our values as an organisation. We stand for connectivity, community, reliability and quality service.
We have a plan to rebuild pride and trust in Jersey Post through this year. We’ll be shaking up our communication approach, how we talk to customers and to you, our colleagues. We’ll be more friendly, down to earth and straight talking and less corporate and formal.
You may have seen some of our activity in local media, including a new radio advert featuring two posties, Chin and Turbo (see their interview on page 17), that really sets this new friendly voice of Jersey Post. We’ve also proactively shared (in the Jersey Evening Post and on social media) the detail of our new Universal Service Obligation and how we’re measured on our service to our customers.
We’re going to have more of a voice on things that are important to us and confidently share the facts when we hear things that aren’t accurate – to our customers and the media.
And so, we felt that delivered needed a re-design too.
We want delivered to focus more on our people and celebrate what makes Jersey Post Group a great place to work. We’re a diverse organisation with businesses and colleagues in a number of geographies, which we need to keep connected, so we’ve included shorter stories and lots more photos and tried to celebrate all the different parts of our Group.
The marketing team would love to hear what you think of the new look and are always looking for news for RedNet and ideas for the next edition of delivered So please get in touch with the team on marketing@jerseypost.com
We need your help in reinforcing pride in Jersey Post, spreading the good news and the facts with your customers, friends and family.
Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or ideas and I hope to meet many more colleagues as I continue to get to know the business.
All the best, Tom Wasilewski

Amy
and Przemek
Our posties, the heart of Jersey Post
Amy Pearce, our new Group Head of Marketing, joined our postie Przemek on a round, and got stuck in with Amazon parcels.
All hands on deck
After the boats were cancelled due to the awful weather, there was an extra days’ worth of post to sort and get out for delivery. If it wasn’t sorted it would mean the ops team would spend a gruelling week catching up. Everyone was asked to spare any time and help the team. Before I knew it, the floor was full with eager helpers.
Seeing so many people getting stuck in to help, made me feel lucky to work for a business that cares about our customers, cares about our promise to islanders and supports each other to get the job done.
A day in the life of a postie
When I joined in February, I was so excited to hear we join a postie on a round. I was totally blown away by Przemek’s driving skills, memory, understanding and care of his customers and their doggies. I totally didn’t appreciate how hard it was to load up parcels and post in the
order you deliver it on the route (and backwards). Przemek didn’t have a list, notes or a map – he just remembered which houses had parcels (all 180 of them). He remembered every SecureDrop location, whether customers were on holiday or not, at home or out (judging by which cars were in the drive) and took treats for his favourite doggy customers. One of his regulars turns 100 this year and Przemek took me to meet her. Besides asking Przemek to write his name in the Customer Survey because she wanted to recognise him, I could see how much she valued his care and friendship. We smiled, laughed and chatted through the rain.
Kudos to our posties who do this day in and day out. Seeing how islanders smile when they see you showed me the reason why our brand is loved. It’s proved to me that Jersey Post is a people business. And at the heart of the business, are our posties.

Team Woodside – we appreciate you!
Employee Appreciation Day is celebrated in March. It’s a day where companies recognise the hard work and the dedication of their employees.
In Guernsey, Woodside took some time out to celebrate the team, over biscuits, chocolate, and doughnuts!
Managing Director of Woodside, Martina McGibney said:
“The Woodside team were dedicated to continue to deliver to our customers during the latest storms. They worked effortlessly to make sure key items got delivered as quickly as possible. All your efforts are really appreciated.
“A big shout out to our shipping admin team, night shift team, warehouse operatives and drivers for putting in a great effort to clear our warehouse floors and get the goods to port! Also a big thank you to our sales team for keeping our customers proactively updated.”

We sat down with Group CEO Mark Siviter to reflect on the first quarter of trading
It’s been a busy start to the year for all areas of our business.
At Jersey Post, our regulator, the JCRA, has granted us a new 10 year Postal Licence with new Quality of Service targets (page 10). We also undertook our annual all-island customer survey. 77% of respondents rated our local on island service as ‘good and very good’. Customers are satisfied but we can’t be complacent. The loss of the mail plane, quality issues with outbound mail, as well as the ongoing cost of living crisis are among the key concerns shared by islanders. We’ll announce full results and an action plan shortly (page 17).
The team at Vaiie is making great progress on a new go to market strategy, working directly with compliance partners (page 14).
Freight continues to be key to our success. Combining Woodside and JPGL under our new Group Freight Director, Charlie Gallichan, has allowed us to create some exciting operational and commercial opportunities.
There are a number of new faces at the Group. I’d like to take this opportunity to say a very warm welcome to everyone who’s joined, including Martina McGibney, MD of Woodside and Aimie Tønsberg, HR Director (page 12) brings a wealth of experience to our Exec team. Congratulations as well to Tracy Hayward, who’s been promoted to International Director (page18).
It’s always sad to see our valued colleagues leave and I must make a very special mention to my wonderful EA, Karen Whiley (page 17), who retired after 22 years at the Group. (See page 21 for a full rundown of long servers, new starters and retirees across the Group).
Looking to the next quarter, trading continues to be tough. Online retail is still struggling, which for us means fewer parcels as customers order less. Competition is still fierce - rates and margins continue to be squeezed. The UK freight market is particularly difficult. We’re seeing the impact of both on our numbers. We must continue to have a tight reign on our spending, making tough decisions on where we spend the limited money we do have.
On a final note, I want to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you. We’re a people business, not just a collection of brands, and your hard work and commitment to the Group every day is greatly appreciated.

Claire Carter
Celebrating the women of Jersey Post Group
Claire Carter is the only female driver in a team of 14, at Woodside Logistics in Guernsey.
“It’s harder being a woman in this industry. We don’t get taken as seriously and there is sexism when I’m out and about. I’ve met some very patronising people,” she says. “There’s actually only a couple of us women driving HGVs on the island. Most of those who have the HGV licence drive horse boxes.”
She’s worked at Woodside for one and a half years and has nothing but praise for the company. “It’s difficult getting a job in this industry. Woodside gave me a chance. I have two children and they allow me to work until 3pm, so I can still do the school-run and I can be with them when they’re ill. I’m extremely grateful to them.”
Claire got her HGV licence driving skips for a year. It’s a tough test. There are the lessons in the learner lorry; the theory test, which is double the length of a regular car test; as well as a hazard test to take.
It costs more to take the test, but it’s harder driving a lorry and there’s more responsibility driving something that size.
Claire Carter
She says: “It costs more too to take the test, but it’s harder driving a lorry and there’s more responsibility driving something that size.”
“That size” refers to the 16 Tonner’ lorry that Claire drives, which is 8 metres (or 26 feet) long by 3 metres (12 foot) high and can carry 9 pallets or 10 tonnes.
She says it’s interesting being the only woman in the Woodside team. “They’re all very decent, and they’ll help me if I need some assistance as I’m not as strong as them.
I used to work in a nursery – it’s similar but with more swearing and you can’t put them on the naughty step! We have a good laugh.”
So what’s next for Claire? “I’m hoping to work towards the C+E test to be able to drive with trailers. Woodside have said they will help me with this. They’re so supportive of career progression.”
Jeremy Rowe, the Operation Manager at Guernsey says: “Claire has had to overcome the challenges of working in this maledominated industry. She’s become a valued member of our HGV driving team. Despite the obvious prejudices that can sometimes happen in an industry like ours, Claire continues to strive and prosper in her role. She’s very important to our team and I’m hoping she’ll inspire others to ignore prejudice and pre-conceptions and follow their own path.”

Celebrating International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is a global recognition of the ongoing fight for gender equality and women’s rights around the world.
This year we celebrated with cupcakes across Jersey and the UK as a small way of giving back and thanking all the incredible ladies who work with us.
Whether you’re in processing, operations, support functions or out on the road, thank you for all your hard work, it doesn’t go unnoticed.
Our Group CEO, Mark Siviter said: “We’re blessed with an amazing group of women at Jersey Post, from posties to the boardroom. Our newest exec recruit is Aimie Tønsberg, our Group Human Resources Director. We have Maxine on the numbers, Julie leading the postal business in Jersey, Martina running Woodside and Saskie organising us. I’m proud of everyone at Jersey Post, but International Women’s Day is about recognising the great women that lead the business and the extraordinary contribution women make to our society.”
Lucy Pattinson holds an inspiring position as the sole female team member at ship2me, based at Nelson.
Born and raised in Portsmouth, Lucy spent eight years as a carer, a profession she “absolutely loved”, before joining ship2me in 2021.
Her role as an administrator is varied, and no two days are the same – from sorting quotes to organising shipments. As a mother of two though, she’s got the art of juggling nailed.
Working in a male-dominated industry and office, Lucy doesn’t feel that she’s ever been treated differently: “There have been occasions when I have had to work in the warehouse booking in items. I will lift and shift the items that I can physically manage but if there are items that are too heavy, there is always someone on hand ready to help.”
Lucy is excited about the future of ship2me. “We’ve got lots of exciting plans in the pipeline to build the brand.”
From her roots in caregiving to her current role at ship2me, Lucy embodies the spirit of perseverance and dedication. As we honour women around the Group, Lucy stands as a beacon of inspiration to us all.

“2023 was a successful year for postal and logistics. We hit our key financial targets, helped by winning the DPD and UPS business and retaining the Yodel business. All our partners sent us messages at Christmas congratulating us for a fantastic year and thanking us for a successful peak. This speaks volumes!
We weathered many storms in Jersey over the Autumn; Storm Ciaràn was particularly devastating. Our team did us proud as they continued to serve our Island community through some challenging times for us all.
We had a record week of processing deliveries, with the highest single amount of Amazon deliveries we’ve ever processed in one day on 12 December 2023 – an amazing 225 pallets!! An incredible feat by our processing crews!
We started 2024 with the JCRA renewing our new Universal Postal Licence for another 10 years. Our service measures were updated, and we’ll now be measured only on our on-island service, the part of our service that we have full control of.
In the Rue des Pres sorting office, we’ve done a lot of re-organisation of the space to accommodate our evolving business:
• With the reduction in outbound business customer volumes, we’ve brought together the logistics and outbound teams into one. This has given us more flexibility in the teams, and we’ve been able to offer other opportunities to colleagues, for example, one of the team is now doing Heavy and Large deliveries for us.
• We’ve brightened the lighting and moved the frames away from the harsh winds and started to improve the heating.
• We’ve invested in building a 4th bay - which is designed to bring more efficiency to our Woodside operation whilst protecting the quality of our service for Jersey Post. It isn’t just an expansion of our infrastructure, it’s also a strategic move to reduce our carbon footprint.
Delivering for Jersey
We
asked Julie Thomas (MD Postal & Logistics, Jersey Post) and her leadership team what they are most proud of over the last few months. We didn’t have enough space to cover it all, so we’ve picked out some of their highlights for you…
Our Customer Care team continue to support our customers. They answered 12,421 calls, 9,386 emails and 1,004 web chats in the first 3 months of the year. In an average month the team clear over 11,000 customs detained items by contacting the customers. Wow!“
They’ve share a few compliments we’ve received from our customers:
“Rachel who delivers my parcels is an absolute delight, she always has a smile on her face and is very cheerful, she’s so polite and helpful no matter the weather. I find myself looking forward to receiving my parcels even more now because I am always greeted with such a cheerful greeting.”
“While at work I saw the postman delivering a parcel. He later returned and placed the parcel in a plastic bag to protect it from the heavy rain we received. I was very impressed and appreciative of this service, please pass on my thanks.”
“I would like to express my thanks to our postman. We have just come back from holiday and our postman without asking made sure my evening post papers were put away in my shed to keep dry. What a thoughtful and great service!”
Many of our customers and our team have been frustrated with the poor Royal Mail service over the last 6 months. We’ve sent GPS trackers in UK mail to track where the issues are. Graham (our resident ICT guru) has led this work, which JCRA and Royal Mail are very interested in.
Thank you to our operations team for all your hard work to keep delivering for our customers every day.”

‘Loading Bay 4’ has been designed to accommodate double decker trailers
This will allow us to streamline our transportation processes and minimise the number of trailers on the road. As a result, we’ll reduce our emissions and impact on the environment.
Another big advantage of moving to double decker trailers is the savings on costs. By reducing the number of trailers we use, we’ll see significant savings in boat fees and driving costs.
Woodside Logistics has bought six new double decker trailers which will make their operation more efficient at Postal HQ at Rue des Pres. This is a great example of Jersey Post Group working together to find innovative solutions to benefit the business and the environment.
GPS trackers to monitor Royal Mail progress
We’re all aware that there have been service quality issues between UK and Jersey.
We’ve been working hard with Royal Mail to try improve the service for our customers when sending and receiving post from the UK.
As part of our new JCRA licence, we need to monitor the service to and from the UK. To do this, Jersey Post is using GPS trackers to monitor progress of mail to and from the UK. The current system tells us when an item has been scanned in to either network, but if there is no tracking, we don’t know where the item is or how long it’s taking to move through the system to get out to delivery. We are placing tracking devices inside packets that will pass through our network and through Royal Mail. The location will be logged every two minutes and data will be sent to the cloud. We’ll then be able to see the data reports on Power BI. Pretty cool hey!
This will give us powerful information to be able to work with Royal Mail on fixing the issues, such as the efficiency of their Superhub or local delivery offices.
Thank you to Graham and Marcin for all your hard work on this project and we can’t wait to see the results.

Touring our UK and Guernsey sites
I’m absolutely thrilled to join the Group. Having spent the past year as a trainee Non-Executive on the JPIL Board, I already feel part of the team and definitely felt ready to hit the ground running on day one.
Aimie Tønsberg
Members of the Group HR team joined Woodside Logistics MD Martina McGibney on a visit to Guernsey and the UK to visit Woodside and JPGL. Aimie Tønsberg, our new HR Director, and Toni Stephens, Head of HR, met with colleagues at various sites to get a better understanding of the businesses and the hard-working teams at both Woodside and JPGL. Aimie and Toni were keen to find out how the Group HR team can work more closely with both moving forward, ensuring a greater level of collaboration and synergy.
Aimie said; “I’m so thankful for the time our colleagues in Guernsey and the UK gave us during our visit. Their passion, motivation and candour shone through in every conversation. I’m particularly grateful to colleagues who took the time to talk to us at length about their ambitions and hopes for the business, helping us to identify solid actions we’ll get started on straight away. This includes working more closely with our HR colleague Spencer Padley, who provides excellent HR support to both JPGL
and Woodside, as well as ensuring the initiatives we’re working on in Jersey, such as management development, are developed to meet the specific needs of our Guernsey and UK colleagues.”
Martina added; “It’s clear our colleagues are hungry to hear the direction of travel for Woodside and our wider group. I was delighted to learn that this is the level of engagement our team want. Our Woodside team are very passionate about all aspects of the business. Their ideas of working and collaborating were fantastic to hear on the shopfloor and in the offices. I’ll be making sure I’m on site as much as possible to deliver effectively on this.”
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the Woodside night shift where Aimie, Martina and Toni got a feel for how operations are run outside of normal working hours. They also enjoyed an impromptu lorry ride to the international port.
They added: “It was so nice to finally spend time with the Woodside and JPGL teams and to immerse ourselves in what it’s really like for our colleagues working in both Guernsey and the UK. Massive thank you to everyone for giving us a really warm welcome – we look forward to working more closely with both JPGL and Woodside moving forward.”

Kev Andrews has clocked up thousands of miles in his lorry.
‘I’ve been out to the Eastern block countries, as well as to Belgium, Germany, Holland and Italy; and I used to do Spain and Portugal a lot too. I’ve done Greece quite a few times, and even Morocco. It took me three weeks to get there,’ he says.
Kev remembers the day he started, 19 years ago. ‘It was 5th November 2005. It felt like a family. I really like working here. No two weeks are the same and that’s what I love about this job. The freedom it gives me. I’ve been driving for 35 years, and I’ll be here until I retire.’
Kev is one of 10 drivers at Quadra. Despite being here the longest, Kev has the newest truck. It’s 54 feet long
Meet Kev, Quadra’s longest serving driver Commercial & Domestic Freight Services
and is five months old. He says ‘it’s very nice to drive’. It comes with two beds (the top one folds up), a fridge, wifi and it’s fully air conditioned.
It’s Kev’s to look after. ‘We don’t cab hop. When your truck goes in for MOT or repair, you take a few days off. We make our cabs our own space, with a few personal bits, as it’s our home when we’re away.’
So where’s next for Kev? ‘I’m heading off to Italy next. I’ll go straight to Belgium and then down to Milan. I never take a European holiday as I see it all on the road!’
Operating between the UK and the Channel Islands, Woodside Logistics provides a high quality customer focused freight service.
Our team has the expertise to advise on all aspects of shipping, providing a service with the skill and experience our clients have come to expect.

Kevin Keen awarded an OBE
Congratulations to Kevin Keen, former Jersey Post CEO, who has been awarded an OBE for his services to the business and charity community.
Known locally as a business ‘fixer’, he’s a champion of leadership and charity. Starting off as a paperboy as a teenager, Kevin has held senior positions at Le Riche Group, Jersey Dairy, Jersey Water and, of course with us here at Jersey Post from 2011 until 2014. He was also President of the Chamber of Commerce.
In the charity sector, he’s been Interim Chief Executive of the JSPCA and Durrell, which he has also supported as Treasurer and Trustee; acted as Honorary Treasurer for Family Nursing & Home Care; and overseen the Association of Jersey Charities as Chair.
“Throughout my career I’ve always tried to give something back and to help others. I’ve worked with some great people (especially the wonderful team at Jersey Post) and I’m very thankful to everyone that helped me along the way and instilled in me that desire to give back.”
Mark Siviter added: “Kevin has always been something of a mentor to me, and the Group couldn’t be prouder that he’s been recognised at such a high level. It’s very well deserved.”
Vaiie’s new go-to-market strategy
Lee Bosio, MD of our Reg Tech (or Regulatory Technology) business, tells us why they’ve changed their strategy.
“Vaiie started as a communications service managing secure customer communications on behalf of financial services businesses.
The last 6 months has been an interesting time for the Jersey finance industry with the Money Val assessment of Jersey at the end of 2023. We’ve kept our ear to the ground to understand movements in the markets and frustrations faced by regulated entities, to understand what their focus is likely to be this year and next.
Automation and efficiency remains the key focus. However, the Money Val assessment has been a distraction and created hesitance in the market to adopting new technology.
We’ve used this time to validate our position in the market and our product offering with regulatory consultants. We’ve run focus groups, conducted closed testing environments and quality assurance checks to make sure we’re in the best place possible for the market.
Validation is key for the team at Vaiie, for our Board and shareholders at Jersey Post Group, to make sure we’re creating the right products and remain relevant in the market.
As a result we’ve refined our go-to-market strategy. We’ll be changing from a direct sales model to working directly with compliance partners.
The partnership model allows my team to focus on the product and increases our chance of engaging the industry and winning business.
Working through partners also gives us access to a book of customers, endorsement and credibility in a more cautious market. Our partners will make sure implementation is aligned with regulation.
We’ve had positive feedback from the market and this approach is already paying off. We’ve signed three new customers already this year, including JT and Coop. We have a competitive advantage, and we can now focus on doing what we’re doing well, with a sharper focus for 2024.’’

Sporting Achievements
Well done! You’ve made us proud!
Thomas Greechan (Senior Operations Manager at Jersey Post) recently clinched the prestigious British Isles Indoor Bowls singles title. But here’s the kicker - Thomas isn’t just any ordinary champion, he’s the first man from the Channel Islands to ever snatch this coveted crown!
So, let’s raise our bowls (or maybe just a pint in Thomas’s honour) and toast to this amazing achievement. Here’s to Thomas Greechan – a bona fide bowls legend.
Annare Dougherty (Head of Business Development at Jersey Post) completed her first marathon in March.
“I had the privilege of taking part in the Barcelona Marathon in Spain on 10 March. After completing a few half marathons over the last 7 years, this was my 1st time completing a 42.2km marathon. There were 20,000 runners who took part. It was such a fun day out on the road running past many of Barcelona’s main tourist attractions. I completed the marathon in 3hrs56min. My goal was to run a sub 4 hour marathon so I finished with a big smile on my face. Thank you to all my Jersey Post colleagues who checked in and supported me during the 16 week training plan!”
A massive well done Annare – what an amazing achievement.

St Peter’s Primary School get a backstage pass to Jersey Post HQ
Jersey Post recently opened its doors for the lively reception class from St. Peter’s Primary School! Led by the one and only Mark Belhomme, the class got an exclusive backstage pass to check out what goes down at Jersey Post HQ.
Mark showed the kids the ropes of the world of post and how everything works. They particularly loved the hand stamp. The real magic happened when they witnessed the letter sorter in action. In just 45 seconds, their jaws dropped at the sheer volume of letters whizzing by. Mark, ever the maestro, encouraged them to ramp up the volume, and their excitement echoed throughout the building! Their school teddy got a ride on the parcel sorter, with the help of Dave Bell and Richard Watts, and was a huge success. The children loved it!
The squeals of delight and laughter filled Rue des Pres during the school visit! We’ll be welcoming more schools to visit us to experience the magic behind the scenes over the coming months.
Get in touch with the marketing team if you know a class who wants to visit, and we can organise it for you.

Joining forces with Family Nursing & Home Care
Every year, Jersey Post selects one charity to be our Charity of the Year. This year we’ll be supporting Family Nursing & Home Care!
They were chosen by you back in November. Thank you to everyone who voted.
“Family Nursing & Home Care is thrilled to have been nominated as Jersey Post’s chosen charity for 2024”, says Rosemarie Finley, CEO of FNHC.
“We raise money through donations, fundraising activities and legacies and we are contracted by the Government of Jersey for the provision of services. Our ethos is to help islanders start well, live well and age well.
“We provide expert prenatal and parental care. We support children, young people, families, and the members of our community who need healthcare or support in their homes. Our services range from the Baby Steps programme, community children nursing, school nursing, district nursing, health visiting, home care, rapid response and reablement, palliative care and end of life care.
“FNHC’s charity work is heavily dependent and supported by islander’s donations and your support helps us to continue providing the best possible care with dignity at the core of our service.
“One of our main fundraising events is the annual Colour Festival and all profits raised funds our Paediatric Palliative Care Worker. This role provides respite for families with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses, allowing children to achieve their goals and have the same experiences as others whenever possible.”
Supporting charities in our community is really important to us at Jersey Post. We have a charity committee, made up of volunteers from around the business, who work hard to come up with fun and exciting ideas to raise money. This year, the charity committee has a new leader, Toby Clyde-Smith from the HR department! “I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be taking the helm of our charity committee this year, spearheading efforts to raise vital funds for our chosen charity.”
We need as many colleagues as possible to get involved – come up with fundraising ideas, get involved with events and support the great work of our charity committee. Our target for 2024 is £15,000 and we need everybody’s help! Please speak with Toby if you’d like to join the charity committee.
Join us at the Colour Festival!

Goodbye to Karen!
We said goodbye to Karen Whiley in March, who retires after 22 years as the CEO’s Executive Assistant.
She started in March 2002, working for John Pinel, and has worked for 5 CEOs during her time with the Group.
Mark Siviter, our CEO, said to Karen: “You welcomed me from day one and I’m sad to see you go but I know we’ll bump into each other around the island. You’ve taken the business to a better place and you’ve left a legacy that you should be proud of.’
Karen adds: ‘I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here. My loyalty has always been to Jersey Post. I love the social club and getting to know all the posties. I’ve had good fun doing this job – although it has given me a few grey hairs! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Karen will have a busy retirement, dividing her time between running an antiques shop in the Jersey Central Market, and heading down to her place in France, as well as keeping on top of all the Formula 1 news.
Enjoy your retirement Karen and thank you for your hard work and commitment over the last 22 years!
Always smiling and happy rain or shine, nothing is ever too much

Our Jersey Post customer survey
In early Spring we sent out our annual customer survey to all 45,000 island households.
Customers were asked to rate their local postal service; their experiences of sending to the UK and Guernsey; and their postal priorities. There were also boxes to provide feedback on how we can improve our services, and also space to mention a Jersey Post employee, who’s gone above and beyond and deserves a special mention.
We received lots of wonderful comments about our posties and counter colleagues – you certainly are at the heart of the our island community!
Customers rated our on-island service as 93% satisfactory to very good; with the off-island service, sending to the UK, rated as 62% satisfactory to very good. We’ll be announcing the full results shortly, along with an action plan to address islanders feedback.
Radio stars!
Thank you to our wonderful posties Stephen Palmer and Michael Taylor who took to the mic and recorded a radio ad for us, which is now live on Channel 103!
“Some of our customers have told us they’ve heard us on air!” they said. The duo, also known as Chin and Turbo, have been with us for 23 years and 22 years and 10 months respectively, and are no strangers to the media. They did a job swap with Channel 103 dj, Peter Mac; Chin has appeared in some of our Jersey Post press images; whilst Turbo took part in an infamous charity calendar in 2014.
Chin has worked in Trinity for the last eight years, and loves being a postie.
“You get to know everyone. I love being out on delivery, meeting the customers, being outside, and driving around the beautiful countryside.”
Turbo, who’s on reserve rounds, likes meeting all the dogs. “They’re always pleased to see you!” he says.

Putting people first
At Jersey Post, we’ve introduced Walking Wednesdays to promote workplace wellbeing and health.
A group of colleagues set out each Wednesday lunchtime to invigorate their health, build camaraderie, and explore the local area.
This group is open to everyone who’d like to join for a stroll through the beautiful local lanes, get away from their desk and enjoy some fresh air. Meeting in reception at 12pm, each week there’s a new route led by Toby Clyde-Smith.
Mental health is just as important as physical health.

Our international business
Tracy Hayward has worked with Jersey Post for 10 years and is the new MD of our international business (or ETOE as many of us call it). She reflects on the team and the opportunities in our international business.
“The international ETOE team is small, yet we cover a lot of miles. 2023 was a strong year for us; we brought on lots of new customers and grew our existing business. I’m incredibly proud of the team’s hard work supporting Royal Mail after a cyberattack where they couldn’t process any international mail. We stepped in to train their entire operation on how to process mail and despatch using our system.
2024 has been challenging in comparison. We’re facing difficult trading conditions, and it’s a very competitive market. There’s a fight for volume, with some cutting prices aggressively. Despite this, the team is working hard to bring in new customers and upselling to existing customers. Our Parcel Max service is where we’re going to drive growth.
The ETOE team also represent Jersey Post on all the international forums, including Chair of the Prime Tracked Remuneration group. Ray Legg sits on the technical forums that define the rate and pricing structures - he’s known as an expert in the industry.
We’re also part of the Universal Postal Union, which is a UN body that sets conditions of exchanging mail between countries, and sets all postal prices. We’re seeing postal pricing going up a lot, so a key element of our strategy will be expanding our delivery partner network to include commercial delivery providers as part of our ParcelMax solution.
In the US, APG is seeing success and growth in Latin America. They recently relaunched their mail and parcel service and are seeing some strong margin growth.
GEPS have rebuilt their freight business and are starting to see some growth. They continue to focus on mail and parcel business to the rest of the world and to the UK which we see as a strong growth area in 2024.
I attended the WMX Post and Parcel conference in Miami in February with Mark. We had lots of successful meetings with many of our existing big customers and potential new customers. The event was great exposure for us and reaffirmed our position in the international market.
I want to say a big thank you to all my team for their hard work and dedication.”

5 Minutes with…. Our People’s Award winners
We caught up with Keith Taylor, our Postie of the Year, and Pauline Mitchell-Gosselin, who won the Customer Service Excellence Award at our awards ceremony in Jersey in November. Both categories were voted for by the public.
Congratulations on winning your award!
Keith: Thank you. It’s nice to be recognised and appreciated. I love my job.
Pauline: I was amazed and shaking with delight when I found out. I wasn’t at the ceremony but my proud daughter, Mary, got it on my behalf. She Facetimed me holding it!
How long have you worked for Jersey Post?
Keith: For 25 years. And for the last 15 of those, I’ve been working on St Brelade rounds. I’m now a supervisor at our St Peter satellite. There are 14 of us working out of here.
Pauline: I’ve been here for 23 years. I started off as a Christmas casual in 1998. I did it for a few years and then got a part-time role in the post shop. The hours fitted in well with the children’s school times. I then became a post & pay advisor and then a part-time counter clerk, all at Broad Street. After five years, there was a bit of a reshuffle and I moved to Rue des Pres. I did many things from bank runs to sorting mail. Now I’m a full-time counter clerk at Broad Street.
What do you enjoy about your job?
Keith: I love being out in the fresh air, seeing people and chatting. You really get to know people.
Pauline: I enjoy my job very much. My colleagues are very friendly and lovely. I also love going the extra mile, and it’s always nice to hear when customers enjoy being served by you.
Where have you put the award at home?
Keith: It’s by my TV, but my cat is eyeing it up, so I think I’ll have to move it!
Pauline: It’s pride of place on my unit. I’ve had quite a few cards from friends and family congratulating me on my award.
And finally, Keith, you received a lot of media attention at the time, appearing on Channel News and BBC Jersey Radio. “It was fun doing the interviews, and I got spotted by a lot of people in the street!”
Well done again Keith and Pauline!

Meet
the mastermind behind the recruitment revolution in Jersey
LAURA MACDONALD, OWNER AND FOUNDER OF PROSPER, SHARES A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE VALUE OF EARLY RECRUITMENT FOR BOTH YOUNG PEOPLE AND EMPLOYERS.
Leaving school, Laura, found that, as someone who didn’t plan on studying at university, there was a huge lack of support for those seeking employment. This meant she had to self-navigate her employment journey, trialling numerous roles until she finally realised her passion –working with young people. This led to Laura landing a job at a local secondary school.
Laura’s time working in a school made her realise that in 18 years, nothing had changedthe measures taken to support young people transitioning from school to the workplace had scarcely evolved, inspiring Laura’s light bulb moment.
From this epiphany came Prosper – Laura’s start-up aims to equip young people to thrive in employment. Recognising that leaving school can be a ‘confusing and an emotional journey’ without the right support, she works closely getting to know her students so she can appeal to their strengths and interests. Ultimately, she believes that the formula for a successful placement is understanding both the student and the employer – their values, attitude and personality.
After a successful first year placing 30 students into employment, Prosper is only getting better; Laura’s vast range of contacts within numerous industries means that all of her students receive an opportunity to do something they love - taking students on site visits and to various workshops allows them to be pointed in the direction that suits them. On the rare occasion a student feels as though their role doesn’t quite fit, Laura’s continued support ensures that students will always have a chance to find an opportunity which suits them.
Laura’s innovation will re-write the future of recruitment, transform Jersey’s workplaces, and gear up young people to thrive in employment!

Did you know…
It takes almost two years for a stamp issue to come to life.
After the initial planning stages, there is a phase of research on the subject matter before an artist is selected and briefed in.
When the artwork is done, Chris, creates the stamps and stamp products that then have to be approved by His Majesty.
Once approved, Chris is back to the drawing board to line up the production with a specialised secure printer.
When the stamps head out for production, Sam and Roxanne get to work making sure everyone knows about them, the artwork, artist and the inspiration and research behind the issue.
