A warm welcome

Hello colleagues,

Welcome to the Summer edition of delivered. We’ve had so much great feedback about our internal magazine, thank you. We’ve kept to the same format with news and colleague stories from across the Group.

We really want Jersey Post Group to feel like one business, and celebrating successes and achievements is an important part of this. We’re now a more focused business, clearly structured around delivering freight and postal services on and off Jersey as well as internationally.

We’ve had a busy start to the year and it’s hard to believe we are already in Q2. A new ferry provider started at the end of March in Jersey, and a lot of everyone’s’ efforts across jpgl, Woodside and Jersey Post has been focused on working with the team at DFDS and our customers to manage the transition. While the first couple of weeks have seen some teething issues, we are hopeful these will quickly pass.

Our new relationship with DFDS has also led to some new business, providing a bonded warehouse and vessel replenishment service in Jersey for their duty-free products. This was delivered in less than six weeks, made possible by a great collaborative effort across the business, working at pace to deliver this additional revenue stream. A massive thank you to everyone involved.

Now it’s time for you to enjoy reading about our charity of the year, finding out more about some of our Exec team (outside of the boardroom), who’s new in the business and hearing some of the great feedback we’ve had from customers.

Our next edition will be out in the Autumn. Please share any stories and things you’d like to hear more about in the next issue of delivered with my team on marketing@jerseypost.com.

Enjoy!

Champions for charity

We’re super proud of our colleagues who are raising money and awareness for lots of different causes outside of work.

Pedalling with a purpose Finance Officer, Robert Wasiak, is taking on the Macmillan Cycle Challenge this Autumn, hoping to raise £2000 for the Jerseybased charity.

Robert has been at Jersey Post for over 17 years, first as a Post and Pay Advisor, then as a Mail Sorter, before moving into Finance. He’s taken part in local bike rides, swims and walks before but this will be his most gruelling challenge to date. He will undertake a six day cycle ride covering 633km with an elevation of 2451m from Biarritz to Collioure in France.

Robert says: “This is not just a ride – it’s a team effort, a personal challenge and a mission to make a real impact. Every mile we cycle helps provide crucial support to those in need. My motherin-law was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. She had a very successful treatment and is in remission. It gave me a great insight into the care that cancer charities provide for people.”

He began his training in November. His programme includes an appropriate diet and training four to five days a week, with turbo indoor cycling, outdoor cycling and swimming. He’ll have two rest days to recover. The weather can be a challenge for his outdoor training.

If you’d like to donate or if you’d like more info, head to www.justgiving.com and search Robert Wasiak. You can also find him in person at the Broad Street office.

Baking for Gaza

Postie Jack Rice is hosting cake sales in the parcels office to help raise money for families in Gaza. “I watched some videos on TikTok and wanted to help. I’ve been making mostly brownies and basic stuff, about once a month, although I did try a Swiss roll, which went a bit wrong!” he says. We taste tested the brownies, and can confirm they are delicious!

Catch him at Rue des Pres for more details on his next bake sale.

Step by step

Lisa Stubbs, Parcels & PM Collections Manager, is walking 77 km around the island in June for Dementia Jersey. Her target is 15 hours 20 minutes. “I would like to raise as much money as possible for such an amazing charity,” she says. “I’ve had friends and family who have lost people to dementia. It’s like you lose your loved ones not once, but twice. It’s hard to watch.”

Lisa is doing long walks every week, mainly practicing the harder parts of the route, such as the North Coast.

She’s done the Island Walk twice before. The first one was very challenging and took 20 hours but she was more prepared for her second walk. “I didn’t stop, I kept the same pace all the way round and was focused on crossing the finish line. I also had amazing people who walked with me for parts of it at their own pace. Even if they were behind me, I knew they were there and it kept me going. The training is really important as your body is put under such stress. You don’t really eat anything on the walk but you need to stay hydrated.”

You can donate via Just Giving – search Lisa walks for Dementia.

Fighting for a cause

Ben Leath at Nelson is gearing up for his second Ultra WhiteCollar Boxing event, following his debut in 2022. This time, he’s fighting to raise vital funds for the NSPCC, a charity dedicated to preventing cruelty to children across the UK.

In his previous bout, Ben raised an incredible £600 for Cancer Research UK, and now he’s back, stronger and more determined than ever. You can show your support by donating via his JustGiving page – search for ben-leath-5

Training kicks off on 26th May, with Ben attending evening sessions twice a week with a coach, as well as doing additional training at home and in the gym over the eight week programme.

Want to choose the song Ben walks out to on fight night? He’ll be auctioning off his ring walk intro song, with the highest bidder picking the tune! Get in touch with Ben for more details!

A message from our CEO

My Exec team and I have worked hard to set up the Group for success in 2025.

We ended last year with decisive action to simplify our business and refocus our efforts on our freight and postal service in Jersey. We launched our Group strategy, with four key objectives, and our priorities for 2025.

As teams embed the new structure across the Group, we’ll continue to look at opportunities to become more customer-centric, agile and innovative.

I’ve set up a Senior Managers Forum to help the Exec team deliver some of our priorities, bring ideas to the table to drive revenue and operational efficiencies, as well as challenge myself and my Exec team. We want to do better.

We need to constantly evolve our business, focus on our digital transformation and develop our strategy for the next five years. This includes how and what we will invest in our postal services in Jersey.

We’ve also been acting on the feedback you’ve given us through the Your Voice survey (see pages 8 and 9 for more details).

Every manager in the Group has recently attended a two-day Performance Management training course, to enable them to better lead and motivate their teams. There is further training planned for Q2.

We need to constantly evolve our business, focus on our digital transformation and develop our strategy for the next five years. This includes how and what we will invest in our postal services in Jersey.

We’ve recently launched The Big Idea, a Groupwide initiative. We’re inviting colleagues to share ideas that could increase our revenue, improve efficiencies or make cost savings to our business. You could win up to £1000.

I encourage you all to take part. The closing date for the first competition is 12th June and we’ll be running more later in the year. Please see RedNet for more details.

You know our customers better than I do. You know our operations better than I do. It’s really important we hear how you want to improve our business. I’m passionate that we need to become more customer-focused and explore new ways to serve our communities.

If you have any questions or topics you want to discuss, I have an open door – please get in touch. Thank you to all our colleagues for your continued hard work, it’s always appreciated.

Have a great summer, Mark Siviter.

Keeping freight moving

Alfie Sedgewick started as an apprentice at jpgl, joining us straight from college. He tells us about his career and his new role as Transport Planner.

Can you tell us about the apprenticeship scheme?

I started with jpgl at 19 after studying Media in college. I was on a business apprenticeship I found through a Government website. I originally started on the storage side of the business managing stock movements and running reports for the finance department. The apprenticeship lasted for a year, and I passed this with a distinction.

You’re now the Transport Planner at Quadra – what does this entail?

My main role is to route the six jpgl and two Woodside drivers and vehicles, ensuring that all work is covered. I issue the paperwork to the drivers and will make them aware of their jobs for the day. I’m in constant communication with the drivers to ensure everything runs smoothly and will adapt the plan to accommodate any issues or delays that may occur. I also quote jobs and speak with my colleagues to ensure the work they require is included within the transport plan and completed.

Can you give us an update on Pallet-Track?

A full time Pallet-Track planner has now been employed. I was involved in implementing the Pallet-Track service originally at Portsmouth and I got us to silver level on the KPIs. Since having a dedicated member of staff attached to Pallet-Track, we’re in a much better position and have now reached gold level in the monthly league table.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy the challenge of transport planning. Every day is different and I love collaborating with my colleagues to ensure that all jobs are completed, and we provide a good service to our customers.

Mammoth Bones, part of EUROPA: Archaeological Discoveries is up for a prestigious PostEurop award. The stamp was designed by British artist Hannah George, and features an illustration that represents the bone piles discovered in 1966 at La Cotte. The discovery was a huge find for the island, providing an insight into potential neolithic hunting techniques due to the state of the bones.

After dark

Processing our island mail is a roundthe-clock job. Manuel Benedito is the PM Processing Manager, working 4pm until 12 midnight, five days a week, with a team of 14. They process parcels – mainly Amazon and some DPD – as well as sort letters into frames, ensuring there’s a clean floor, ready for the AM crew to arrive at 5.30am.

So what’s it like to be working through the night?

“It’s a good atmosphere, everyone is happy. We put on some music – although not too loud, so we don’t disturb anyone! It’s pretty much non-stop from the start of our shift. Unless there are boat delays, there’s no hanging around,” says Manuel.

Shifts are flexible depending on boat arrival times. If there’s a later evening boat, shifts can be pushed back till 7pm or 8pm, finishing at 1am. “We try to process as quickly as possible, even with a late boat arrival,” Manuel adds.

In the last year Manuel has taken on the additional responsibility of the PM Collections team, who work 2pm until 8pm. This team processes all the outbound items, loading them onto trailers bound for the port, ready to catch the next boat.

Manuel enjoys working nights – although it’s very different to his previous role at the Jersey Evening Post, where he supervised early morning newspaper deliveries starting at 5am! He joined the team here after Jersey Post took over the JEP deliveries. “There have been challenging times, but I enjoy my job, the flexibility it provides and working with my team,” Manuel adds.

On the red carpet

We got a sneak peek of the new Bergerac series at a special red carpet premier at the cinema in Jersey!

The premiere was attended by the stars of the show, including Damien Molony, who plays the iconic detective, as well as local businesses and the Chief Minister, Lyndon Farnham.

Delivering on Your Voice

In Autumn last year, 74% of colleagues across the Group shared their views about working here in the Your Voice survey.

The feedback was invaluable – and over the last six months there’s been lots of work to turn this into meaningful action - at team, department and Group level.

Aimie Tonsberg, HR Director, says: “Change takes time but we’re working hard to deliver at pace to respond to the survey and make the Group a better place to work. We hope our actions so far begin to demonstrate our commitment to improve and invest in our people.”

We look at the main feedback areas and actions taken so far….

A new performance management framework has launched, so everyone’s clear on what’s expected and what ‘good’ looks like. All colleagues will have regular catch-ups and appraisals twice a year with their line manager. All managers have undergone training to make sure they have the skills and confidence to support colleagues (see opposite page).

The Group 2025 Strategic Objectives and Business Priorities were shared at the Quarterly Business Update in February, so individual objectives are aligned with the strategy.

The Exec has made commitments to colleagues – to be transparent and honest, enhance personal development and growth, improve communication, listen more and be more visible in the business.

They’ve been visiting sites across the Channel Islands and UK to spend as much time with teams as possible.

A new Manager Development programme will launch in May - more info will be shared soon!

Development needs will also be discussed at regular catch-ups and appraisals – and this could include training, mentoring, coaching or collaborative working.

The Keen to Develop scheme has been reintroduced to provide match funding for any learning and development opportunities colleagues wish to apply for. Other training and development opportunities for all colleagues are being explored (see RedNet for more details).

A programme aimed at helping to improve workplace culture will also launch later this year.

A new Senior Managers Group has been established to work together on a number of initiatives to help build a more collaborative culture across the Group.

A new working location policy is also now in place, which continues to support flexible working for eligible colleagues with a balance of home and office working. The aim is to bring people together and build a more collaborative working culture in offices.

A new employee recognition scheme is in development, and the HR team will be inviting colleagues to help develop a meaningful programme across the Group.

Performance Management training

36 managers in the Channel Islands and the UK have attended the Performance Management training course, so far, with the remaining 16 due to attend over the coming months.

The bespoke course was designed in collaboration with the training provider, Compass, and Jersey Post to ensure that it fulfilled Group criteria and met colleague feedback. The course content and structure was presented to and signed off by the Exec team.

It was delivered over two days by Jacqui Richards and James Horrigan of Compass, both of whom have many years of experience in HR, consultancy and mentoring. They covered SMART objectives, appraisals, performance management framework, managing and resolving workplace conflicts and coaching.

After the sessions, all managers were surveyed – attendees recorded a 66% increase in knowledge, skills and confidence across the two days and 100% of managers would recommend the programme to others.

Toby Clyde-Smith, Head of Organisational Development, says: “The goal for any management development programme is to ensure the knowledge is practical and that managers feel more confident delivering their role – and I’m really pleased to see that happening.”

He adds: “Being a manager is one of the most challenging (and important) jobs in any organisation, so it’s incredibly gratifying to see so many of our managers walk away from this training feeling better equipped and more self-assured. We’ve learned a lot through this process ourselves – and this is just the start. A fuller management development programme is on the horizon, so watch this space!”

Meet Sam

Our new Postal Operative with a passion for learning and teamwork

We’re delighted to introduce Sam Cross, one of our newest Postal Operatives, who has joined us from Beresford Street Kitchen. If you’re around the Sorting Office, you might spot Sam hard at work, always ready with a friendly hello and a warm smile!

Sam is Chairman of the St Peters Youth Club, where he assists with organising the summer programme, and helps his bosses Lena and David out with various roles. Sam also has a variety of interests that keep him busy outside of work. He plays in a football league, enjoys acting in plays such ‘The Jungle Book’, where he played a Parrot. He also likes films, such as Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones and the Marvel franchiseespecially Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, which remains his all-time favourite!

Beresford Street Kitchen is a local organisation in Jersey, which aims to provide structured education, training, and employment programmes for people with learning disabilities and/or autistic people.

Since joining Jersey Post, Sam has embraced every opportunity to learn and grow. He enjoys getting involved in different roles, whether it’s sorting parcels in the office or joining Chris, his manager here, on his rounds to gain hands-on experience.

He appreciates the welcoming and supportive environment at Jersey Post, where he finds it easy to have a laugh with his colleagues.

More importantly, Sam feels that working here has given him a newfound sense of independence. Reflecting on his journey so far, he shares: “I’m really enjoying my time at Jersey Post, and I’m looking forward to the future here.”

He’d also like to give a special shoutout to Kevin and Chris for their support and guidance along the way!

Shaping deliveries around the world

Jersey Post hosted the 8th Small Posts and Islands Postal Forum, attended by international delegates from the industry. The event was opened with a key note speech from Mark Siviter, with an overview of our strategy.

There were two full days of presentations, roundtable discussions and networking with postal leaders from small islands including Iceland, Oman, Grenada and Estonia. Julie Thomas gave a speech about our operations, whilst Tom Wasilewski spoke about the future of philatelic products.

BBC Jersey also came down to the event and interviewed delegates for the local news.

There were two very special tours led by our colleagues. Paul Belhomme hosted a tour of our Sorting Office - we love this AI drawing that one of the delegates created! (See above). Toby Clyde-Smith also hosted a very informative walking tour of St Helier, filled with fun facts and local history. A special mention must also go to Marcin Bogusz, who helped us out with photography. A huge thank you to all of you!

From Head Chef to HGV

Say hello to Pete Crawley, a valued member of our Isle of Wight driving team.

Although he officially joined jpgl in August 2024, Pete is no stranger to the crew – he’s already worked alongside teammates David Groves and Leigh Mackenzie on two separate occasions. “I love being part of the small team we have here,” Pete says.

Pete’s journey behind the wheel began back in 2004, but his career path didn’t always involve tarmac and tachographs.

Before he ventured into the world of logistics, Pete was leading a very different team – as Head Chef at the Moore’s Central Hotel in Guernsey! Swapping saucepans for steering wheels, Pete decided to pursue a new challenge, learning to drive heavy goods vehicles and navigating the tiny roads whilst still living in Guernsey, and he’s never looked back!

Over the past two decades, Pete has travelled the length and breadth of the UK and Europe. Among his many memorable deliveries, two stand out: transporting an underwater camera to a submarine base in Inverness, and delivering a high-value jet engine to RAF Brize Norton, both experiences that underline the variety and responsibility that come with the job.

Pete’s career path highlights his appetite for challenge and his passion for the open road. It’s a pleasure to have someone with his experience and energy on the jpgl team.

Tech talk

Charles Robertson is our interim Chief Information Officer, leading the IT team across the business. He tells us about his new role, his nine-year career at Jersey Post, and gives us an update on the Group’s investment in IT.

What does your new role entail?

As Interim CIO my role is to represent the technology team to the Exec and Board, ensuring we support the business in the best way possible to meet its needs and goals, with the right people, the right skills and the right kit to do the job effectively in a secure and robust manner.

What are you enjoying most?

One of the most interesting aspects of my work is getting to know different parts of the business in detail, and then finding ways to make people’s working lives better. The IT team currently comprises 15 people between Jersey and the UK, covering infrastructure, service desk, software development, application support, data integration, reporting and operational technology.

Can you tell us about your career at the Group?

I started here nearly nine years ago on a fixed term contract as the technical lead on the Dynamics CRM and new website projects, but I enjoyed working here enough that I went permanent later that year. Initially I was a Business Systems Analyst, then I became the Data Architecture Manager as we started to build out a data platform starting with the Operations database, which underpinned the new (at the time) Amazon contract with its performance reporting requirements.

Eventually I became Head of Data Exploitation with a team to really develop the data platform and started rolling out Power BI reporting dashboards across the business. This role was merged with the Head of Applications and Development role in the restructure last year.

What investment is the Group making in IT?

This year we are conducting a significant refresh of PCs, laptops and retail point-of-sale computers within JPL. These devices are approaching the end of their useful lives and will be replaced over the course of this year.

This project will provide colleagues with new models of PCs and laptops that have better performance and are compatible with the latest software security. Managers will be contacted over the course of the coming months to manage the replacement of existing equipment.

And what are your interests outside of work?

I have a young family and get shouted at by two guinea pigs! I also help run the largest remaining feudal common (St Peter’s Marsh) and I enjoy growing trees and rifle shooting.

Jersey Post is proud to support Jersey Hospice Care

Since launching our Charity of the Year initiative in 2013, Jersey Post has raised over £150,000 for exceptional local charities, including Family Nursing & Home Care, Jersey Child Care Trust, and Macmillan Jersey. This success is thanks to the incredible efforts of our colleagues across the business who get involved in fundraising events, challenges, raffles, and volunteering, all united by a shared commitment to making a real difference in our community.

Our charity this year, Jersey Hospice Care, provide compassionate support, care, advice and symptom management to patients with advanced life-limiting conditions. Their work is invaluable, and they are deeply respected across our island community.

Cheri Strudwick, Director of Income Generation and Marketing at Jersey Hospice Care, says: “We’re extremely grateful to the team at Jersey Post for choosing Hospice as their charity of choice for 2025. We’re looking forward to working with them over the coming months as they get involved in our events and help raise the vital funds we need to continue providing outstanding end of life care and support to our patients and their loved ones”

Our in-house Charity Committee (made up of, Toby Clyde-Smith, Jasmine Thompson, Roxanne Le Voguer, Denise Williams and Thomas Greechan) has set a fundraising target of £16,000 this year, a goal we know is achievable with the continued support of our amazing team.

Fundraising target:

£16,000

Toby Clyde Smith, Chair of the charity committee, says: “We’re delighted be supporting Jersey Hospice Care. Their vital work provides comfort and support to so many in our community, and we’re proud to play a part in helping them continue their incredible service. To reach our fundraising goal, we need everyone’s participation, so keep an eye out for upcoming events and fundraisers!”

There’ll be a variety of fun and engaging events throughout the year, including the return of the ever popular ‘A Night at the Races!’, as well as music bingo, and ‘chase the ace’.

We’d love to see as many of you as possible getting involved this year, whether that’s by attending events, volunteering your time, or helping us reach our fundraising goal. Every contribution makes a difference, and together, we can achieve something amazing.

Keep an eye on RedNet for updates and announcements throughout the year.

Well done to Tom Wasilewski, Thomas Greechan, Jasmine Thompson, Roxanne Le Voguer and Garry Evans, who abseiled down Gorey Castle for Jersey Hospice, raising over £1300!

Our next event is Music Bingo on 28th June at the Post Horn in St Helier. We’re also looking for crew members for the Jersey Hospice dragon boat festival on 13th September. See RedNet for sign-up details.

If you’re interested in volunteering during working hours at the Hospice shop or doing some gardening at Mont Cochon, please speak with the Committee to sign up!

Welcome to our two new starters at jpgl

Meet Kerry and David, our two new Freight Forwarders.

Kerry’s main role involves managing an account for GHD, where she organises movement of stock from the UK to and in and around Europe.

Before jpgl, Kerry spent 17 years at Estée Lauder Companies, starting as a warehouse picker and working her way through various supply chain roles. She eventually joined the transport team, where she coordinated deliveries for high-end stores and organised international shipments—experience that now proves invaluable in her new role.

Outside of work, Kerry is an avid fantasy reader, with Throne of Glass as a top recommendation. She also enjoys exploring food markets in London and trying new cuisines. Whether it’s books or travel, Kerry is always up for discovering something new!

David Grace

David focuses on Italian import groupage and full-load services. He ensures correct shipping documentation, coordinates with clearing agents and hauliers, and arranges final deliveries using jpgl’s vehicles and the Pallet-Track service. He also manages storage and distribution for two key customers, overseeing their shipments from Italy.

With a career spanning decades in road haulage and freight forwarding, David has worked for many large freight companies including DRS logistics and Paul Davis Freight Services, and has extensive experience in European logistics.

Outside of work, David is passionate about live music, pub quizzes, and traveling—particularly to Jersey, where he has visited around 17 times. His long-standing connection to the island makes this role even more special!

New CFO

Congratulations to Maxine Dunn, who has been appointed Chief Financial Officer! Maxine has been with the Group for the last eight years, and has been covering this role on an interim basis since 2022. We’re pleased to have you on board Maxine!

Celebrating our female colleagues

We celebrated International Women’s Day with some special videos featuring teams from around the business, directed by Jasmine Thompson in Marketing. Female colleagues were asked to share a word that best described working at the Group. Check out our LinkedIn channels or RedNet to watch the videos.

Karin and Tasha: our first female posties! (pictured right)

Karin Travers and Natasha McCabe were our first female posties, pictured here in 1993. The uniform was adapted for them, and they received new mountain bikes – which although smaller in size, so their feet could touch the ground, were in fact much more powerful with 20 gears (compared with three gears on the older bike fleets).

women (pictured left) Julie Thomas

from left) took part in a special panel in London to mark the occasion, sitting alongside senior female leaders from British Airways, The London Metal Exchange and Associated British Foods. To a packed room of over 150 women, Julie spoke about her career in the postal and freight industries, and at the NHS, as well as her passion for working with young people and skilling initiatives.

The heart of the warehouse

Meet the Admin team at Nelson – Emily, Kady, Chelsea, Alice, Kim H, Kim M, Ryan and William. Day-to-day, their tasks are varied and include - booking in and labelling consignments; loading trailers; invoicing; breaking down pallets; dealing with customer queries; responding to emails; generating damage reports; and communicating with delivery drivers.

Their manager, Lucy Pattinson, says: “Emily and Ryan have recently taken over looking after the plant trolley pool ensuring we are shipping the correct TAG6 trolleys (using RFID technology), with the correct amount returned to hauliers. They also work closely with Mick Bleach (a haulage company) to ensure the effectiveness of record logs and accuracy. They’re building up a great working relationship with the hauliers and garden centres.”

She adds: “Our other team members have had a lot to deal with over the last six months - new customers, new routines, new procedures and they all go above and beyond to fulfil their job role to the very best of their ability.

“Pallet-Track is an example of having to learn a new system and tackling obstacles. Even now, sometimes it isn’t straight forward but they always manage to figure it out and rectify what they need to. They are always cheery and nothing is too much trouble for them.”

I’m very lucky with the team that I have.
Lucy Pattinson

Alice: “I’m still quite new to the role, so learning the ropes of more involved tasks can be challenging but I really enjoy it. I really like the variety of working within the office and the warehouse throughout the day and interacting with all teams across the company.”

Kady: “I enjoy booking in consignments on the computer, and working as a team. If new tasks are difficult, I ask questions and get support from my colleagues and manager.”

Kim M: “I’ve been working here since November, first as an agency worker and then I was given a permanent contract in February. I enjoy everything about my job as it’s something I’ve never done before and I’m learning every day. The people are also a big factor for me. This is the first office where the environment is not toxic. Everyone helps each other and the atmosphere is so nice. I recently added our new shipping rates to Guernsey onto our system, something I’d never done before. It was made even harder as there was no one else working in the business that had done this before either. I managed to speak to someone from EasyTrans (transport software) who helped me and went through what I needed to do to get this done. Everyone has been so supportive even if they can’t help me directly.”

William: “The best part about Nelson are the people. I learn new skills every day – from how to use a forklift to new systems - to become more effective at my job. I load the Isle of Wight trailers daily, with extra trailers on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for Pets at Home and Jolleys pet store. I also book in all the Isle of Wight product on our inbound sheeting to keep track of all the goods that arrive at Nelson every day.”

Getting to know our Exec team

Tracy Hayward, International Director

Three of our female leaders tell us about their jobs, what they love most about the Group and what they get up to outside of work.

I’m so very proud to work for Jersey Post. Born and raised on the island I’ve grown up knowing Jersey Post as an important part of island life so it’s a real pleasure and honour to work for the business and be part of the team here. It’s everything I hoped it would be. And the people here are particularly awesome too.

Outside of work I’m a keen runner and I run at least three times a week. It’s great for my mental health as it gets me outside in all weathers all year round. As a family we love to travel and as our boys are teenagers now it’s basically the only chance my husband and I get to actually hang out with them these days!

I’m a qualified print, radio and television journalist- and won an award for my feature writing! But, after a short time in London, I changed my mind and moved to Brighton to pursue a completely different career. It was the best decision I ever made as I met my husband when I was living there and I’ve loved my career ever since.

I love the diversity of my job and working with a very varied group of people from all around the world. I like the fact that no day is the same and I’m always kept very busy.

I have a fantastic team in International, who also have a very similar and strong work ethic.

My partner and I are foster carers to an eight year old girl, who’s been with us for three years, so we enjoy spending lots of time with her doing activities and days out. We’re also slightly addicted to Lego! I have three adult children. My eldest daughter lives in London and we like to visit regularly to explore the city and go to the theatre. My middle daughter lives in Stafford and we’ll often go for pottery painting at the Emma Bridgewater factory near her.

My son currently lives at home but also attends university in York and works part-time.

My partner is from Slovakia, so that is a regular holiday destination for us. It’s definitely worth a visit as it is a beautiful country with lots to do and experience.

I was born in Zimbabwe and went on to become a guardian of the Vice President of Zimbabwe’s son when he was at boarding school in the UK.

Aimie (second from right) with her family
Tracy’s daughter’s dog

The remit of my role is both broad and deep. That means I get to interact directly with front line teams, hear their ideas and find out a bit more about their stories. Then I can translate everything I hear into investment plans, policies or simply setting priorities for my direct team and as an Executive Director for the wider Group.

It’s really unusual to find a role with so many opportunities to make a difference and examples of this have been onboarding DPD and UPS; leading on the review of the Postal Services licence to align our Q of S targets to what’s within our control; resetting the financial services business in line with regulatory requirements; supporting investment cases for an updated fleet and the fourth bay at Jersey Post; as well as fleet and property investments for jpgl and Woodside.

Travel is something I’ve always loved and highlights have been the epic sights in Alaska, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Canada. This year we did a two week tour of Sri Lanka and saw elephants and monkeys in their natural habitat – epic! Closer to home you’ll find me walking my two black labs on Long Beach, Gorey, most weekend mornings.

The best part about Jersey Post Group is the people who work here who are passionate about the business and in particular the front line teams who are so obviously loved by their customers – that makes me very proud to be a part of Jersey Post.

A tribute to Gerald Durrell

Jersey Stamps will release their second Gerald Durrell issue in June, celebrating the naturalist’s life achievements, in what would have been his centenary year.

The images for this issue have been sourced through Gerald’s widow, Lee, and the archive team at Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, both of whom the Stamps team met with to get an idea of Gerald’s character and to pick out key moments of his life.

Did you know?

Whilst Jersey Zoo was being established, Gerald kept all the animals he’d acquired in his sister’s garden in Bournemouth!

Did you know?

Gerald was given the name ‘odd-beast boy’ due to his natural affinity with animals at Whipsnade Zoo.

The images also feature Gerald’s playful illustrations, or ‘zoodles’ as he called them, which he’d often draw over notes when he got bored in meetings. These are outlined in magenta, which was said to be his favourite colour.

Sam Fleming, Philatelic Manager, secured renowned local artist Jason Butler to create a portrait of Gerald, which appears on the miniature sheet. The realistic portrait will be gifted to Lee Durrell at the end of May. She will then auction this at Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust’s silent auction in September to raise funds for conservation efforts carried out in Gerald’s legacy.

In safe hands

A warm welcome to Steve Paris-Hunter, who joins us as our Health & Safety Compliance Manager. With over 20 years’ experience in the industry, he’s worked in similar roles on the island at Jersey Water, Dandara and Rok Construction, throughout the UK, as well as for a Norwegian offshore company with global outreach.

He also holds a number of qualifications in safety and management and is working towards becoming a Charter Member of IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health).

Steve has already been out on a couple of postie rounds, including with Nathan (pictured) on one of our hardest rounds, T26; and has helped in processing in the sorting office.

Steve says: “I enjoyed going out on a postal round.

The weather on the day was sunny with a very cool breeze, which made for a productive day. I gained significant insight into the realities of the role through interactions with other postal workers in the morning before we left the sorting office.

“I personally found it a valuable learning opportunity. I can’t begin to imagine what these rounds would be like on the run up to the Christmas period when the weather is physically challenging, and the volume increases enormously.

“These experiences have provided me with a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by our teams from an operational perspective and I very much look forward to working with you all to improve health and safety in future.”

He adds: “Thank you all for the very warm welcome and support you have given me during my transition into this very exciting new role.”

Team Jersey sponsors

Orkney is hosting the 20th Island Games this year. The week-long event brings together thousands of sportspeople from 24 islands around the world, competing in 18 different sports.

As part of our commitment to our island community, we’re proud to be involved as Team Jersey sponsors! Once again, our island has an incredible team of athletes, who are currently in training, and who we will be cheering on – including our Postie, James Oliver, who is competing for the first time.

We’ve been involved for over 16 years in various ways. As the main sponsor, you’ll see our logo across all team assets, including the uniform, and we’re also transporting the team’s equipment up to Orkney.

Check out our Island Games channel on the Jersey Post website, where we will be posting regular updates as we get closer to the event.

Our drivers

Posties, Toby and Alan will be driving two Jersey Post vans over 1,400km to Orkney, carrying Team Jersey’s equipment. The journey will take 2.5 days and include two ferries!

Postie entered for half marathon event

James Oliver is taking part in the half marathon event. He tells us about his training.

“I’ll run about 100km a week, and will also do a couple of gym sessions in the morning, before work. Sometimes I’ll run twice in a day. I also find it key to not drink alcohol, so the beer has stopped! I would like to do the event in 1 hour 11 minutes but the course in Orkney is very hilly. It could mean it’s going to be more of a tactical race than a speed one. Luckily being in Jersey gives us loads of options to train on the hills!

Everyone is very supportive of my running, and there are a couple of people I’d like to thank – Thomas and Bluete for making it so easy to get the time off for the Games. And to Mark Siviter for helping to organise sponsorship to help cover my costs – it’s really appreciated!”

Remembering Keith

Keith Harris has sadly passed away after illness. A popular member of the AM Processing team, he was with us over 13 years. Our thoughts are with his family. Two of his colleagues share their memories:

“I have great memories of Keith growing up in the 70s. He was full of fun and grew into a kind gentleman. I will miss him dearly as am sure everyone who knew him will. Our mums were very close sisters and I’m proud to be his cousin.”

Jane, Postie and cousin

“Keith was one of the kindest and most loveliest people I know. We’ve all enjoyed many nights out and BBQs with him. He will be truly missed.”

Driver helps Postie after fall

Woodside driver, Nathan, was out on delivery in St Helier when he spotted one of our Posties, Dave, who’d fallen over a chain.

Remembering

David

We were very sad to hear about the passing of David Gibaut. He was a very popular postie, who was with us for over 23 years before retiring last summer.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Nathan, who’s been a driver at New North Quay for four years, says: “I pulled my vehicle over to help, and it was then that I saw that it was a postie.

“I rang the emergency services, and also Mark, our Warehouse Manager, who called Paul Belhomme.“

“There was another lady helping, who went to the pharmacy to get some towels to help with the cut. We waited with Dave until the ambulance arrived.”

Dave received 13 stitches and was released the same day from hospital – we’re pleased to report that he’s well again and back to work! A huge thank you to Nathan for helping out.

Facilities team driving sustainable improvements at Postal HQ

Our Facilities team has been hard at work, making several improvements around Postal HQ to support our sustainability goals and enhance the working environment.

As part of our commitment to reducing emissions across our premises, the team has replaced two old boilers with eco-friendly electric heating. This upgrade not only supports our green initiatives but has also freed up space for a brand-new dynamic workshop dedicated to maintaining and repairing our electric bike fleet. You’ll now find Chico, our in-house Mechanic, working from his new base in the former boiler room, just outside Paul Belhomme’s office.

In addition, the team has recently completed a full refurbishment of the men’s bathrooms for our Posties. From new tiles and doors to upgraded toilets, sinks and showers, the revamped facilities now offer a much fresher and more modern space.

A huge thank you to the Facilities team for their continued hard work and dedication to creating a better, greener workplace for everyone.

Green investments

Woodside has invested in more electric pump trucks in the UK and in the Channel Islands, bringing their total to 12.

The pump trucks are easy to use and can lift up to 1500kg. The team have said they’ve made “a big difference” to their work, helping to reduce back injuries when dealing with heavy pallets, as well as saving them time - all whilst ensuring they do their bit for the environment!

Jersey Post has also introduced three fully electric large parcel vans – the first in our fleet. It brings the total number of our electric vehicles to 69 – wow!

Our aim is to reach net-zero carbon emissions in Jersey by 2030, and in our Group operations by 2040.

Celebrating our long-serving colleagues

Every year, we come together for a special event to honour our retired employees, who have dedicated many years of service to Jersey Post. It’s a truly meaningful occasion where former colleagues reconnect, share stories, and celebrate what, for many, was a lifelong career with Jersey Post.

This year’s celebration was held at the Jersey Bowls Club and made for a memorable evening filled with warmth, laughter, and fond memories. A heartfelt thank you to Paul Belhomme for his wonderful speech, and to Saskia Körner, Toni Stephens, Lisa Stubbs, Amy Pearce, Jasmine Thompson, Jimmy McCormack, and Roxanne Le Voguer for their incredible support in making the evening possible.

We’re always looking for volunteers to help bring this special evening to life. If you’d like to get involved next year, please email marketing@jerseypost.com – we’d love to hear from you.

Challenging deliveries

It’s all in a day’s work for our Woodside team!

From huge steel loads to actual swimming pools, no two deliveries are ever the same.

They’ve also been keeping things moving internationally, recently loading a belt loader from Gama Aviation onto a DFDS trailer, headed straight from Jersey to the Netherlands! And look at this 10m-long, 4.1m-wide pool, delivered with a full States of Jersey Police escort! Now that’s a VIP delivery. Behind the scenes, teamwork and communication are everything.

You can stay up-to-date with regular updates of interesting deliveries like this by heading over to the Woodside LinkedIn Page @WoodsideLogistics.
