The coolest part of my job is documenting all our community events. It pushes me outside my comfort zone and lets me exercise my creativity.
PEOPLE OF JBER
by Debbie M.
HOMETOWN:
Eagle River, Alaska
OCCUPATION:
Webmaster & Social Media Specialist
773d Force Support Squadron
Mackenzie Klippel
In the heart of Alaska’s breathtaking landscape, Eagle River native Mackenzie Klippel has made his mark as the Webmaster and Social Media Specialist for JBER Life. With a unique blend of creativity and dedication, he’s turned his passion into a fulfilling career that thrives on the excitement of fieldwork and community engagement.
Mackenzie’s path to JBER began in high school when a friend applied for a lifeguard position at Buckner Fitness Center. This sparked his interest in working with NAF, an excellent option for college students. In 2019, he took on the role of laborer at Hillberg Ski Area. Those early days were filled with unforgettable moments and challenged his ability to problemsolve complex issues. “That was my kind of gig,” he recalls smilingly.
In his current role in marketing, he dives into the vibrant MWR events. “The coolest part of my job is documenting all our community events,” he shares. The thrill of being out in the field and the creative freedom to explore new ideas make his job truly special. “It pushes me outside my comfort zone and lets me exercise my creativity.” Working with the 773 FSS, he appreciates the supportive network and flexibility, making it an ideal fit as he advances his career.
When he wants to unwind, he finds peace at Otter Lake, his favorite spot on JBER. “It’s my go-to for a quick getaway with my girlfriend after work,” he explains. It offers a refreshing escape from the daily grind, whether he’s soaking in the tranquil surroundings or engaging in lake activities.
Mackenzie’s interests outside work are as diverse as they are exciting. He’s an avid
gamer, currently lost in Baldur’s Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 worlds. Writing a novel and dabbling in photography keeps his creative juices flowing. His love for vintage cars shines through in his 1968 Ford Mustang and 2000 Ducati 748, which he has maintained and repaired for years. His adventurous spirit once led him to purchase a 1931 Ford Model A, a delightful and demanding classic. “I bought a 1931 Ford Model A and daily drove it for about a month until I got tired of cleaning the carb every 10 miles. It’s entirely original. It's just such an anachronistic thing because these old cars don’t “feel” like cars. I bought it to drive it all year round, inspired by a blog where a journalist bought a 1931 Ford Model A and drove it through blizzards.”
Mackenzie also strives to embody the idea that being unique and unconventional isn’t just okay but something to
celebrate. His parting advice for fellow community members is “Send it,” reminding us to embrace life’s adventures, whether pursuing passions, exploring new hobbies, or enjoying the stunning Alaskan outdoors. As JBER continues to thrive with the contributions of dedicated individuals like Mackenzie, the future is bright. Watch out for this budding talent—his journey is just getting started!
