NIHONBASHI, TOKYO,JAPAN RESEARCH STUDIO II- SPRING 2023

Team: Jayita Shetty, Annie Yining Chen, Xie Yan

The objective of the project is to design a township for Nihonbashi district. The changes in Nihonbashi district considering the flying car port near Sumidha river makes it an example of what Tokyo would look like in 2050. This encouraged the project to be the futuristic global city.

The project has programs on different level with commercial spaces and retention park at the ground level. The green spaces continue to the office levels with green slopes. The residential floors are at the top of the buildings with view to canal and Sumidha river.

HUTCHINSON ISLAND, SAVANNAH | DESIGN AND RESEARCH STUDIO I - FALL 2022

Team: Jayita Shetty, Shruthi Hariharan, Riya Shah

“In a union, indeed, the things between which there is this relation are called parts, and taken together with the union, a whole. This occurs as often as we suppose a plurality of things at the same time to be One. One, instead, means something that we think of in a single intellectual act, that is, at the same time.”

G W Leibniz, Dissertation on Combinatorial Art, 1666

LOCATION AND TOPOGRAPHY:

The site is located on the hutchinson island right across the the Historic district of Savannah. The land is predominantly flat but is one of the highest points on the Hutchinson island.

TRANSPORTATION:

The island is connected by roads and ferry to the Historic District. You can reach the site by road via the Tamaldge Memorial Bridge or by the Ferries that run to the convention centre from City Hall, Trade center.

VIEWS OF THE CITY

Green spaces come in various structures, sizes and functions. Some are functional in nature. Most are recreational and a few are residual.Whichever form they take up, they improve the imageability of the fabric making spaces more habitable and vibrant, opening up opportunities for improved engagement, economy and health.

A unique site with stories of undefinable boundaries, A rememberance and history. The intangible but visible aspects of the site are not different from the built environment Resilience is not just to overcome the unexpected but it is to embrace and make it inclusive.

This particular phase is to integrate the intangible into spaces for community interaction.Establishing a relationship by balancing the nature of each natural forces.

Spaces weaved with the green spine - the heart of the design. The concept is to have an interactive relationship with the spaces as well as the open spaces that hold all the structures together.

Construction system

Multipurpose hall, office and toilets and the plinths for the classrooms are built in this phase. The plinths can host communal phase. The plinths can host communal gatherings and activites

4 sets of Classrooms and toilet at the south end of the site are built. The green spine and north side plinth provide a balanced enviroment to play and interact for the teenagers.

Phase 3: Additional classrooms with insertion of open spaces to connect the rest of the site with the green spine by breaking the arrangement of classroom structures

Roof structure of the closed courtyard to bind the green spine and the structures together, acting as a shaded and interactive platform for outdoor activities

The site presents itself with dense vegetation at its core. The design process is centred around embracing its rich flora and making it the main focus spine

All the structures in the school open out to this green spine and conciously create a protected enviroment for the children.

Education plays a significant role in shaping an individual’s future and help uplift the community they are associated with. Senegal is striving to achieve equity and quality of education; this requires infrastructure that ensures accessibility to the learning oasis in Senegal. Jangukaay envisioned to provide spaces that celebrate and enrich the process of learning.

Green weaved spaces at the center of the design encourage engagement and activities. This open spaces works as common spaces for assembly and play.

HIGHLINE 23, NEW YORK UNDERSTANDING STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS AND DETAILS SPRING 2022

Team: Patricia Rangel, Aparna Reghukumar, Jayita Shetty, Kevin Miller

The Highline 23 project nudges itself center court onto the converted rail line park known as the High Line. Finished in 2011, HL23 marked Denari’s first go at a freestanding building. The design has a cantilevered portion that extends the HL23 on the upper floors. The structure is supported by diagnol bracing of steel columns at the perimeter of the building and tied back to a moment frame running along a partiwall. Lateral forces of the building are resisted using a steel plate sheer wall.

The inspiration for the public pavillion was a spiral enclosure with paltforms on different levels. The idea of having a park landscape form that provides spatial function to the park. First is what we call free space: benches, skate park, play space, etc. Secondly, the interior hollowing of the form creates a market space. And lastly, the theatre is connected to a screen on the desk.

The intend of the building is to extend the program. Displaying art from static to performing stage. Thus the extension of program was achieved to be a catalyst for inside –out relation and revive the lost essence of the arcade corridor.

The design is governed by the geometry of the space in which the central stage plays an important role in engaging the public spaces with the private or the outside to of central stage with seating through the entire circumference of the circular stage.

The public corridors are the highlight of the design. The open spaces in the center of the project in connectes to the buildign corridrors od the building.

The different sections in the building would connect to the courtyard and stadium on the other side with a large double height lobby overseeing the other spaces of the building. The building also has stay rooms and indoor courts. The stadium level connects to the cafe opening for public engagement.

This thesis is about a different approach to the set notion of architecture’s spatial dialogue as an objective knowledge. The theory of temporal attributes in architecture represents the overlapping unforeseeable factors which fragments the notion of space.

INSTITUTION FOR ALL

AHMEDABAD, INDIA

Institution representing modern Ahmedabad.

The main intention of architectural intervention was to design an interface between the talent of design schools and industries who will realize that talent and help it to reach common man.

Any new architecture within the old city has to necessarily negotiate with the older typologies, Understand the context within which those buildings evolved and take it further.

The focus was to find the methodology of design which understood and absorbed the context and the existing typologies to arrive at a design solution

The focus was to find the methodology

VIEWS FROM PROMENADE

The plan was a juxtaposition of common spaces recreating the chowks of pols and had change in the dynamics of the forms representing the shift from pols to modern architecture. The auditorium enclosed would be allowed only for students and for their programs but the other condition was the outer facade opening to become an arena that connects the riverfront directly to the stage. Making it the centric point for both people associated to the institute and common spaces
