The aim of this assignment is to develop your skills and understanding in working safely, creatively with different materials, techniques, processes while pushing your technical skills while investigating approaches to manipulating photographic materials, processes, procedures and subject matter.

Understanding how photographic imagery can be manipulated and challenged is central to this investigation.

AC1: INFORMING IDEAS RESEARCH/ INVESTIGATE/ ANALYSE/ DEVELOP IDEAS/ PLAN For this assignment, you should explore the potential of different materals, techniques and processes by researching artists, photographers and designers who use technology, both new and traditional, to push the boundaries of image making by exploring new ways to use materials, techniques and experiments.

Research and discuss experimental imagery in photography, discussing materials, techniques and processes used by photographers and artists.

Evidence your clear ideas and plans of what materials, techniques and processes you are going to experiment with.

Review how the above research will help to inform your initial ideas for your shoot plan. Remember all research needs to be referenced clearly.

• Produce mood boards to help visualise your ideas.

• Generate ideas through creative mind maping, selecting those with the most potential for further development.

• Put together a shoot plan in response to your research and ideas that will help you achieve a successful shoot. You should include any camera equipment required, along with your shooting location. Other considerations might be; props, model details, time of day, duration of shoot, etc.

AC2: PROBLEM SOLVING ENGAGE | APPLY KNOWLEDGE | EXPERIMENT | TEST | REVIEW | REFLECT Following your research and evidence of creating informed ideas, you will need to develop an individual and creative response to applying different techniques to create new experimental images: Follow your plans and intentions to create your images:

Evidence your understanding of the connection between artist’s work and your own, annotating key influences in your own developments. After evidencing your research then plan your ideas in depth, using different materials, techniques and processes with the aim of creating exciting experimental images.

You should show evidence of the following: • Evaluations & reflection of shoots & experimentation • Test shoots & behind the scene shots • Screen shots of edits & manipulations of using digital tools • Evidence recorded of tactile experiments included within a sketchbook Provide self-review and evaluation of your progression.

AC3: TECHNICAL SKILL SELECT | APPLY MATERIAL | MEDIA | TECHNIQUE AND PROCESSES | INTENTIONS | DEMONSTRATE TECHNICAL COMPETENCE By exploring different materials, techniques and processes decide what is more useful of testing experimentation and making comparisons between the production of outcomes. Initial intentions presentation – with early draft work and practical research into media, materials, techniques and processes. Series of experiments/tests or prototypes towards creating final outcomes.

When using specialist equipment and processes, it is important that you record health and safety notes demonstrating your knowledge. In addition, when using industry-standard software, screenshot tools and methods of working to show your technical competence. You should show evidence of the following: • Evaluations & reflection of experimenting with a wide range of techniques & processes (strengths and weaknesses) • Screen shots of using tools, settings within Photoshop • Health & safety notes • Contact sheets showing selections

AC4: PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE PROFESSIONAL SKILLS | CREATIVE APPROACHES You should apply professional practice when working on the assignment by: • Identifying and using best practice associated with creative practice of photographers • Consider health and safety procedures of working with specialist techniques and processes.

• Managing delivery of outcomes by setting targets for completion by breaking up the assignment into manageable parts, exploring ways of working efficiently.

• Organising resources • Exploiting stages of the creative process.

• Ongoing record of all stages and a reflection of the creative processes explored.

AC5: COMMUNICATION MEANING | PURPOSE | FUNCTION | PRESENTATION | QUALITY OF WORK | INTENTED AUDIENCE You should use communication skills throughout the project by: Considering an audience and context for your work by conveying the meaning, message and impact using clear visual language and creative forms of communication.

Communication opportunities: • Expressing clear intentions at an early stage by aligning work with the audience and purpose of the brief.

• Using testing with a review to reflect on the quality of how the work communicates • Producing prototypes and outcomes that clearly communicate the requirements of the brief • Working with others and presenting intentions

Evidence must include:

Document and collate all work within a digital portfolio on slides & a supportive sketchbook containing tactile experiments. Consider the design and layout of your pages for both your digital presentation and sketchbook (these may differ).
