Re: Demeaning Conduct and Jeopardizing the Health and Safety of our Community The main discussion at the 7/7/15 Carson City Council meeting was to Recall Jim Dear and to remove the “Jim Dear” street sign, because of his bias and unethical character as the former Mayor and as the City Clerk.

Also, his unsavory conduct and negative action, which included illegally violating the felony Election Codes (18561/2021) and he violated Carson resident’s civil rights under Govt. Code (54953.3c).

What was even more distributing, is when he used the demeaning expressions of the “B” word against the Carson City Council woman (Lula Davis-Holmes) and the “N” word against the former appointed Carson Elected Official Charles Davis.

When Jim Dear shows such a lack of respect for his constituents and colleagues in this type of derogatory manner, he needs to be removed by a “Recall” from any public office.

(This was done for his own selfish and political purpose and not for the welfare of our community).

He solicited and supported the highly flammable and dangerous Tesoro Storage project, which would allow a very dangerous product in our city, even when one of Carson’s environmental officials stated that this project would have a harmful impact on our city. (Once again, this was done for his own selfish and political purpose and not for the welfare of our community).

So, the question we need to ask ourselves, if Jim Dear is re-elected as Mayor, what other dangerous projects will he impose on our city?

So far, Jim Dear has shown to be very toxic for our city.

I remember laughing with one of my sweet spiritual Mothers about her vision. She told me how surprised she was after finally removing her corrective glasses from her cataract surgery. She thought someone came in and repainted her home. She said everything looked so bright and new.

That’s what happens when you get your vision corrected. You begin to see life differently.

If you have no vision for your future, everything will seem dark and gloomy. The word of God tells us that, “A man without vision will perish.”

Get clear about your priorities and goals to overcome blurry vision. Begin to SEE your possibilities and abilities to create the life you want to live.

Begin to SEE that you do not have to allow your past to become your identity. Begin to SEE that there is life after a break up, divorce, death of loved one, lay off or setback.

Begin to SEE that you can overcome the darkness of depression and hopelessness. Begin to SEE that you are worthy and courageous enough to take action toward your goals and dreams.

If you only see limitation, your flaws and obstacles…your focus on the negative only keeps you living below your potential.

Flip Wilson, a funny comedian from back in the day, had a comedic warning in his female drag to flirting men in his TV skits. His sassy statement was, “What you see, is what you get!”. Wow that holds true for your personal vision for your success or doom. Do you see yourself stressed, sad, broke and sick all the time? Do you see yourself always struggling? Do you see yourself overcoming tribulation or see yourself renewed and stronger after a setback? Do you see yourself enjoying retirement or in a loving relationship? Do you see yourself owning your own business, starting your ministry or traveling to your dream destination? Do you see yourself driving your dream car or closing the sale to your new property?

Do you see yourself writing and completing your book or walking across the stage receiving your diploma? What you see is what you get? Do you see yourself healthy and looking good as a result of your improved eating habits and exercise?

A vision is a strong force in anyone’s life. Years ago I cut out pictures from magazines of places I wanted to go and goals I wanted to achieve. I still have my vision book and can say that my vision for many of those things in my book became reality. I have been a guest speaker in; 35 of United States, London, Brazil, Cancun, Jamaica, St. Kitts, the Virgin Islands, on the radio and several cruises. These were my visions/goals years ago and now I have new visions?

“Making the Most Out of Your Hospital Stay-A Nurses Perspective”

Hello Carson Courier Readers! Today is a great day to be great! This week’s issue continues as a survival guide to getting the best out of your care. Being a patient can be very frustrating and at times confusing. Having knowledge about how to make the best out of your visit can often decrease some of this frustration and confusion.

As nurses, the hospital or clinical setting is second nature, however even a visit to the hospital can be an overwhelming process for the most experienced nurse.

Recently, I became a patient at the Urgent Care Clinic for cold symptoms and during the visit I felt the significance of knowing how to thrive during a hospital visit. Here are 10 tips for getting the most out of your hospital stay.

Hand washing is the key to decreasing infection. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose, which are the quickest routes for transmission of bacteria and viruses.

Sneezing onto your arm sleeve instead of your hands will decrease contaminating others.

Pain medication is made available to control pain. Take advantage of this when possible. If you are in pain, be honest with your nurse. Being honest can help get to the root of what is causing the pain.

Prior to your doctor’s appointment, have all of your questions prepared to ask the doctor or nurse. Often we forgot our questions when we are with the doctor. Many patients feel that doctors are on a limited time and feel rushed. Being prepared with questions will ensure that all of your concerns will be addressed.

Be prepared to discuss your medications with your physician.

Bringing your medication bottles or having the name, dosage, and frequency that you are taking is key.

Always remember to include natural remedies!

Having an allergy bracelet is a great way to alert nurses or health professionals of any allergies or medical conditions. In times of an emergency, this simple bracelet can be life saving!

Don’t be offended if the nursing staff is unable to give you a wake-up call or provide you a massage!

Rounding in the hospital ensures an update on patient status and is a part of the hospital’s policies and processes. Getting upset with nurses and the assistant prohibits accuracy and restricts proper treatment.

Hospital food—okay what can I say? Most people dislike hospital food and that is normal. Food is prepared based on your health condition. For example, if you are hypertensive please don’t expect foods prepared full of fat and salt, and if you are diabetic ordering the cheesecake and coke probably won’t happen!

Be kind to your neighbor and other patients. Blasting the TV and radio can be inconsiderate to others. Don’t get offended if asked to turn down the volume.

This last suggestion speaks to my colleagues that visit family members and friends in the hospital.

Insulting doctors and nurses or attempting to manage the care of your family or friend is not a good idea. Be respectful of your fellow colleagues. Manipulating the medical equipment, peeping into the patient’s record, and attempting to take over the care of the patient are insulting to the nurse on duty. Let the nurse care for the patient. Just think how you would feel if a nurse took over your care?

No. 1 ranked Women’s Singles Tennis player, Serena Williams won the Wimbledon Championship on July 11, 2015 to mark her 6th Wimbledon Championship.

This is year she hopes to win the U.S. Open in August which would give her a calendar Grand Slam her last real title to win in professional tennis.

It’s hard to believe that she won her first Wimbledon Championship in 1999, sixteen years ago. It’s even more unbelievable that she is 33 and at the height of her career. Williams is a polished athlete who exudes professionalism and poise. Her passion for life is exhibited

While her fans relished her win along with her, some media reports chose to nick pick at her looks and how she expresses herself on the court. I can just imagine her smiling and saying, “See you in August!”

The Los Angeles Lakers were reportedly looking to trade Nick Young this summer, but reports indicated the veteran shooting guard is now off the trading block.

The Lakers, who made several moves to improve their roster this offseason, reportedly shopped Young after striking a deal with veteran guard Lou Williams and picking D’Angelo Russell second overall in the 2015 NBA Draft.

Young, who still has three years left on the four-year deal worth $21.32 million he signed last year, was placed on the block earlier in the offseason as the Lakers were looking to create cap room in the hope of signing big-name free agents like LaMarcus Aldridge and DeAndre Jordan.

But now that their top targets this summer are out of the market after signing deals with their rival teams, Bill Oram of the OC Register revealed that the Lakers now have no plans to trade Young before the season.

“The Lakers have no plans to trade Nick Young. Called around seeking suitors so they could clear cap room quickly.

Didn’t materialize,” Oram wrote on Twitter.

Young averaged 13.4 points on career-low 36.6 percent shooting from the field last season on top of just 2.3 rebounds

and 1.0 assists in 42 games.

With the arrival of Williams and Russell, combined with the return of Kobe Bryant and emergence of incoming second-year guard Jordan Clarkson, it remains to be seen what role Young will play next season.

Williams, who won the Sixth Man of the Year award last season after averaging 15.5 points on top of 2.1 assists and 1.9 rebounds with the Toronto Raptors, is expected to be the first player off the bench next season.

According to the Los Angeles Daily News, Young also had clashes with Lakers coach Byron Scott last season because of his playful personality and lack of dedication, particularly on defense and practice.

When asked about the possible role of Young, Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said, though, that the 30-year-old guard could play a crucial role, but he pointed out the eight-year veteran should buy into the system of Scott and their coaching staff.

“I do see him being a core player this year,” Kupchak said of Young. “He has to convince our coaching staff he can play within the system. That doesn’t only mean score the ball.

That means defending and doing the little things, which I know he can do.”

The club was actually free from 1978 to 1992. In 1992 the City implemented a fee to ensure the clubs up keep and existence.

The Fabela Chavez Boxing Club is one of the highlights of the City of Carson’s Scott Park. After speaking with the park supervisor, E. De Nize Hunt this reporter stopped by the gym to see what made Hunt so enthusiastic.

Eddie Rodriguez the Boxing and Weight Lifting Coordinator joyfully shared the history, current program, and highlights with The Carson Courier.

Rodriguez revealed that he was first a recipient of the boxing club when he was a youth. “I was 12 or 13 when I started with the club. When I was 15 I worked as a summer youth worker and then I went to the

Repair walls filled with dents, dings, and scuffs, and you’ll make rooms look young and fresh and maintain the value of your home. Fortunately, repairing walls is a good weekend warrior project. Here’s how to fix your home’s face in a hurry.

Patch Drywall to Smooth Walls A putty knife, spackle, or joint compound can repair wall damage that ages a room.

Dents and dings: A quart of spackle ($11) and a putty knife can fill dozens of small wall indentations.

Spackle adheres to painted walls better than joint compound, though it takes a bit longer to dry. Cut wall repair time by thoroughly wiping away excess spackle.

Fist-sized holes: Joint compound is your best bet when covering the mesh or drywall patches that cover big holes. You’ll need at least two thin coats of compound and fine grit sandpaper to blend repairs into the rest of the wall.

Nail pops: Nail pops travel in packs: Rarely do you

see just one. To repair walls pocked with pops, hammer the popped nail back into the wall or pull it out with a needle-nose pliers; refasten the drywall to the nearest stud with a couple of screws, then fill dents with two or three coats of joint compound.

Sand until smooth and flush with the rest of the wall, then repaint.

Remove Marks for a Clean Start Microfiber cloths are little miracles that erase the evidence of a childhood well spent, drawing on and caroming off walls. To get rid of scuff marks and fingerprints: Spray an all-purpose cleaner onto the cloth (never directly onto walls to avoid drips) and swipe the scuff.

(Test a hidden spot to make sure the cleaner doesn’t take off paint with the mark.)

Pour a little dish soap onto a damp cloth and wipe the mark.

Dip a sponge into an earthfriendly and slightly abrasive paste of dish soap, baking soda, and water, and gently scrub grime.

To repair walls decorated with crayon marks, dab

toothpaste onto a towel or toothbrush and scrub marks.

Use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser ($3), the best instant wall cleaner around. Wet and wring the eraser before attacking scuffs.

Touch Up What You Can’t Wipe Out Prepare for inevitable touch-ups by keeping leftover paint or at least recording the paint number and/or formula (paint names change). Don’t have the original? Scrape off a little and ask your paint store to match it.

For touch-ups, use the same type of brush or roller the original painter used. Feather the paint from the outside borders in.

If touch-ups stand out, paint the entire wall, making sure to paint corner to corner and avoid splatters onto the ceiling and adjacent walls.

Are you using social media to brand yourself? “..the reason I have two Instagram’s would be, one is for business and the other is because I like to post pictures. My biggest thing is making sure I dedicate a page just for motivating people because I don’t want people to get distracted. I really just want to focus on motivating and encouraging people. So, when somebody is feeling a certain way and they need some motivation they know, ‘Okay, I can just go to that page’. I think that’s where a lot of my respect has come from people because they see how I am on social networks then they meet me in person and they are like

There’s a burger buzz about a better tasting burger in Carson.

Being an 11 year old burger lover, I Sanai Dehere thought I’d go give them a chat. PJ’s Grill Burgers and Dogs, a family business has been open for 8 weeks.

It’s “a great family experience and great burgers!’’ says Angel a worker at this friendly family oriented burger and hot dog spot. Owners Phillip and Jessica Johnson decided to open up PJ’S because they figured they wanted their own concept, not just another food chain or franchise.

PJ’S is not only the talk of the town because they have great homestyle burgers and hot dogs but they are also giving back to their community. PJ’S is donating free meals to students at Broadacres Avenue Elementary School.

Kids who have perfect attendance and high academic scores receive free meals at PJ’s.

If you get a chance to stop by don’t forget to try OJ’S FAVORITE and their TURKEY BURGERS. As PJ’S is on the rise owners Phillip and Jessica Johnson look forward to opening more in other communities.

When I looked up what happens when drinking and driving it shows that male drives between 22-45 years old are responsible for 50 percent of drunk driving crashes.

I would suggest because to each his own. Everybody chooses to do something different. It’s going to be up to them to choose if they want to do it or not. So, I would suggest, first, before getting on any social media that you know who you are and that you are true to yourself. And if what you are posting doesn’t relate to your life, then you shouldn’t post it.

There are also many negative consequences like killing someone else, losing your life, obtaining a criminal record, living with guilt, legal cost, and increased insurance.

These are very good reasons for people not to drink and drive. Drunk driving not only causes harm to the drunk driver but everyone around the drunk driver.

Not only the person who created the accident is putting their health in danger but the people around them are also in danger.

“I don’t idolize anyone but there are a lot of people who inspire me. Those people being a dude name Eric Thomas. He actually inspired me to do what I do.

He follows me also. That guy really inspired me the most.

Tyrese and a guy by the name of Kevin Gates, but with him it’s kind of different. He displays himself in different ways and some of the stuff that he says is inspiring and some of the stuff he says is kind of vulgar. I kind of piece

Morehouse was the only school you applied to. The first time you did not get accepted, but this time you did.

What did you do differently?

“I stayed persistent. I allowed my faith to pull me through. A lot of times when we want something, we want it when we want it but God doesn’t want it for us at that moment because He knows we aren’t ready. I wasn’t ready when I first applied. He knew that. made me grow up. I had to. There was a lot of stuff I had to learn about myself. Man, to be honest it was probably discouraging. Actually, really discouraging because you know it’s a dream I always wanted to accomplish it. It’s like it was a dream deferred. But it didn’t dry up. It just postponed itself. And then, with me being persistent and allowing my faith to pull me through. Something wouldn’t let me give up. I could never get this off my mind. I would dream about it even after being denied. I just had to keep going toward what I wanted and what was in my heart.”

Walker has already traveled all across the United States competing in tournaments. He reflected on his trip to Kansas City and seeing snow for the first time but his favorite trip was to Nevada because “boxing is big in Nevada.” Walker plans to continue training and competing.

He is determined to be the 2020 Olympic Gold Medalist.

Walker is a scholar athlete who has been on the Honor Roll since elementary school. He has plans to attend the University of

What do you take away from this experience?

“What I take from that is to never give up. It taught me patience. It taught me how to appreciate the ‘nos’ because after ‘nos’.. Hmm. That’s a dope question. It’s a simple question, but then in my mind it taught me not to give up.
